[edit] Dart Feld

Main article: Dart Feld

Dart Feld is the main protagonist of The Legend of Dragoon. He is 23 years old and has blond, spiky hair. His weapon of choice is the broadsword. Dart was one of two survivors of Neet and somehow ended up being raised in Seles. Growing up beside Shana, he left to defeat the Black Monster when be became an adult. However when he found out Shana was kidnapped, he put that quest on the backburner in order to save her.

He used the Red Dragoon Spirit,a memento of his father, throughout most of the game. Near the end the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit returned to its original owner. Lloyd gave the Divine Dragoon Spirit before his death so that Dart could bring the utopia he couldn't.

Dart's father is revealed to be Zieg Field, the main enemy of the fourth disc. While never stated, it is implied that Dart's mother is the same Claire that was Haschel's daughter which would make the two grandfather and grandson.

[edit] Shana

Shana is a sweet, caring young woman that is Dart's childhood friend. When the two were children, they were often playing together in the woods. She is the adoptive daughter of Plos, the mayor of Seles. Unbeknownest to her, she was targeted to be kidnapped by Emperor Doel's army for reasons she did not know, and was taken to Hellena Prison

Dart infiltrated the prison and rescued Shana, and she joined him to help fight his way out, which Dart disapproves because she could be hurt. During the progress of the game, Dart assists Shana when she is injured. Although Shana pines for him, her love is unrequited, as Dart places the Black Monster before her, and still thinks of her as his "baby sister." When Shana became poisoned due to longterm exposure to the toxins in the swamp, Dart decided to help her by finding the Dragoni Plant, which is an antidote. Dart returns with the White-Silver Dragoon spirit, intending to activate it through his own Dragoon Spirit. However, Shana is able to activate the spirit herself and becomes the White-Silver Dragoon. She rejoins Dart and continues to fight by his side

Throughout the game, Shana tends to exhibit strange powers if her life is in mortal danger or around Virage creatures. She also begins to feel hot at times, and she feels as if the Dragoon spirit rejects her one time in Mille Seseau.

Eventually, in Deningrad, Shana faints and finds herself next to a strange, glowing sphere. When the group goes to see her, the Dragoon spirit grows hot, rejects Shana as a host, and choses Miranda instead. Shana decides to wait in Mille Seseau for them, asking Miranda to take her place.

Shana remains in the palace and is eventually kidnapped by Lloyd, and returned to Emperor Diaz. When the party reaches him, he reveals the truth. Shana is the Moon Child, the spirit of the Virage of Destruction, the final species, and the one to destroy all others. It was revealed that she is the twin sister of Princess Louvia, who was suspected to be the child and was eliminated by Rose as the Black Monster.

Shana is taken to the Moon and Melbu Frahma attempts to combine himself with it to gain her power, but he is stopped by the Dragoons. Dart rescues Shana in the end, and the two remain together.

[edit] Lavitz Slambert

Lavitz is the captain of the Second Knighthood. He is loyal to King Albert and ultimately died for him. Lavitz lived with his mother in a large house near Indels Castle. His father, Servi, was widely regarded as the best knight in Basil, but was betrayed and murdered by his traitorous best friend, Greham.

Lavitz and Dart meet in the notorious Hellena Prison. Though at first they were geared towards battling each other, suddenly, they were attacked by a trio of wardens. Together, they defeated them.

After successfully rescuing Shana, they escape to a prairie where Lavitz is shot by an arrow. When they lose the Wardens, they hide in a shack for Lavitz to recover while Shana treats the injury. Dart then tells him and Shana about the Black Monster's attack on Neet, Mille Seseau, 18 years prior to the current events of the game. Lavitz then tells Dart and Shana that the Green-Tusked Dragon Feyrbrand had been used by Emperor Doel to attack any who oppose him. They decide to go to Indels Castle to inform King Albert about his freedom from Hellena by Dart and Shana.

He then travels with Dart and Shana for some time, going to Hoax Fortress to aid in the defense. They meet up with Rose and decide to travel to Lohan. On the way, Lavitz meets with Greham, who immediately fights him to take revenge on his father and the soldiers slain by his treachery. After Greham is fatally wounded, Greham's Jade Dragoon spirit accepts Lavitz as it's new host.

Lavitz travels as a Dragoon with Dart and Rose until they learn King Albert has been captured and brought to Hellena Prison. After the party infiltrates the prison once again, they arrive in the knick of time just before Albert is about to be killed by Fruegel, the chief warden of the prison. After the party defeats Fruegel, the Hooded Man appears to be removing an object from Albert's back. Albert faints and Lavitz becomes enraged. He charges at the mysterious man with his spear, changing into Dragoon form, but the Hooded Man pulls out a unique sword (The Dragoon Buster) and fatally wounds Lavitz by striking him in the chest. It is then revealed that the Hooded Man is Lloyd.

After this event, Albert replaces Lavitz in battle, and the soldier is not seen again until the party reaches Mayfil. He is possessed by a devil and attacks, but Lavitz's own will gives him control over his body and he stabs himself in the chest. Before he fades away, he creates a pathway towards the last Signet Stone. At the end of the game, Dart places a glass of brandy on a desk with Lavitz's picture on it, thanking him for the advice he gave him in Lohan regarding Shana.

[edit] King Albert

The King of Basil. He inherited the throne after his father, Carlo, was assassinated by his brother Doel. He was a good friend of Sir Lavitz Slambert, the captain of the Second Knighthood. After Lavitz was killed by Lloyd, Albert became the new bearer of the Jade Dragoon Spirit. He then decided to travel with Dart's party to avenge Lavitz's death. He is also in search for the Moon Gem which was taken out of his back by Lloyd.

Throughout the tale, he grows ever more affectionate towards Princess Emille of Tibernoa and marries her at the end of the game. He seems to regard Lavitz Slambert as both his best friend and mayhap as a brother.

Albert is extremely intelligent and knows much about plants and politics, among other things. He is often criticized by the group for talking too long.

[edit] Kongol

The last survivor of the Giganto race. All but a scant few perished when humans attacked their home. Kongol is now the last of his people.

During the events of the first saga, Kongol is Dart's enemy. Dart first encounters him in Hoax when he is protecting the fort against the Sandoras. Dart fights him a second time in the Black Castle. Once you defeat him a second time and let him live, he returns to the Home of Gigantos and finds Dart and the rest of the group. When a statue falls, he saves their lives and joins the party.

Later, it is revealed that Kongol and his older brother Indora were rescued by Doel, who took them in. His brother died later, but Kongol devoted himself to Doel and to Sandora's cause.

It is revealed that Kongol is the Golden Dragoon when the party finds the spirit. Unlike the other spirits, Kongol can receive his spirit in one of two places. Anytime between Kongol joining the party and visiting the Moon that Never Sets, a merchant in Lohan will have the spirit, and, when it reacts to Kongol, he offers to sell it for a thousand gold pieces. If it is not obtained there, Kongol will receive it from Indora on The Moon that Never Sets.

[edit] Rose

Rose is the ancient Dragoon of Darkness from the Dragon Campaign. She fought for liberation of the humans from the tyrant Winglies. She is one of the original Dragoons to survive the Dragon Campaign, the other being Zieg Feld, the old Red-Eye Dragoon, who it is later revealed was her lover. After the Dragon Campaign, the humans, among other things, destroyed the Crystal Sphere sealing the Virage of Destruction away. To prevent the destruction of the world, Rose was given a choker to make her immortal, and whenever the seed of the God of Destruction was borne into a human, the Moon Child, she was to eliminate it, along with anyone who came into contact or saw the baby, as they would become the creature's servants and assist the destruction of the world. For thousands of years, Rose set herself to this task, the most recent victim being the village of Neet, the hometown of Dart.

Eighteen years later, after wandering through Serdio, Rose sees the Green Tusked Dragon Freyrbrand. She ventures deeper into the forest where she saves Dart from being killed by the dragon. To her shock and amazement, after Dart runs off, her Dragoon spirit starts to glow in response to him. Rose saves Dart a second time. Dart is about to meet his demise at the hands of the warrior Kongol when Rose flies in as a Dragoon to save him. She then activates the dormant Red-Eyed Dragoon spirit and enables Dart to save himself. Rose agrees to become a part of Dart's team and stays with him, imparting information regarding Dragoons from time to time. Her history is revealed by Zieg, and afterwards, she and Dart fight together in the desert of the Death Frontier. He beats her, and she states to kill her and take revenge. However, Dart does not do this. Rose continues to fight alongside Dart until the very end, when she and Zieg charge straight into Melbu Frahma to kill him once and for all, giving the other Dragoons time to take Shana and escape.

[edit] Haschel

Master Haschel is the master of the Rouge School of Martial Arts and Dart's grandfather, although that fact is unknown to both of them. He is a very strict teacher who demands much of his students and chastises them quickly when they make errors. He leaves his home village of Rouge to go search for his lost daughter, Claire, who ran away from the village after she seriously harmed her partner in training. After she killed her, Haschel berated Claire for placing a "murderous intent" into her fist and she ran off.

When he left the village to go search for Claire, Haschel ran into Dart Feld, who was searching for the Black Monster, the two of them searched for their respective beings together for a time. The two men run into each other again in Lohan, where Dart and Haschel enter an Iron Man tournament. Haschel makes it to the semi-finals before he is beaten by Lloyd, placing third overall.

As the group plan to leave, they receive word that Albert was kidnapped and taken to Hellena. Lavitz intends to storm the place, but is knocked out by Haschel to prevent him from rushing into a trap. He joins the group to end the war, and, after he assists in taking down Emperor Doel, the Violet Dragoon spirit accepts Haschel as master.

When you travel to Fletz for the first time, the group comes across a bridge called "Claire Bridge" it is here where Haschel tells Dart that there may be a connection between the two. The group comes to a conclusion that a connection like that is highly unlikely. When travelling to Furni, Haschel hears Shana sing a lullaby and then there is a flashback of him talking to his daughter Claire while she is singing the same lullaby. Claire tells her father that she is going to teach it to her firstborn son, and, when Haschel asks Shana about it, she responds that it is a lullaby Dart would sing for her, and that he learned it from his mother. Haschel pieces things together, but doesn't expressly tell Dart. However, on the Moon that Never Sets, Dart calls out to an image of Claire, to which Haschel responds that she doesn't know who Dart is yet.

He finally confronts Claire during his challenge in Magic City Aglis, where he sees a vision and acknowledges there was nothing he could do to change the past, and again on the Moon that Never Sets, when he faces his past.

After the destruction of the Virage Embryo and the downfall of Melbu Frahma, Haschel returns to Rouge, where he trains Kongol in the way of the Rouge Art.

[edit] Meru

A young girl from Donau who enjoys dancing, laughing, and having fun, Meru is bright, perky, and cheerful. She decides to travel to the Valley of Corrupted Gravity with the group because of how dangerous it could be, and to rescue her friend, the Mayor's son, when he tries to negoitate releasing Donau from their grip.

After rescuing him, Meru tags along to help Princess Emile and to pursue Lloyd. She confronts Lenus, and, after her death, the Blue Sea Dragoon chooses her as host. She continues along with the group. However, when the group decides to go to Deningrad, Meru decides she needs to visit some old friends, and will catch up with the group later.

Meru goes to her hometown, where it is revealed that she is a Wingly, and the Forest of Winglies is her home. She, who left the hometown, has been banished, and receives a terrible homecoming, in which only the gate guard, an old friend of hers, and Meru's mother, give her greetings. The others, including Meru's father and Ancestor Blano, the leader, shun her.

She returns to Mille Seaeau and rejoins Dart's party, confessing that she is a Wingly and the location of the Dragon Block Staff when Rose questions her. Meru escorts them to the Forest and gives them directions, all the while being guilt-ridden over the many people her ancestors slaughtered, as well as the Bardel Sister, a young girl who emulated Meru's desire to live in the human world, and was slaughtered. However, she is comforted when the others state that she committed none of those atrocities.

Meru finally confronts her past on the Moon that Never Sets by defeating the Archangel, a powerful supreme Wingly being, and realizes that bridging the gap between species is what she was meant to do.

[edit] Miranda

The First Sacred Sister of Mille Seseau, Miranda is the Sister of Arms and in charge of the military at Deningrad. She is fully devoted to Queen Theresa, and brooks no errors in the defense of the castle, going so far as to slap soldiers when they are seized by panic.

She first meets the party when they are pursuing Lloyd, and, although she is hesitant of their abilities as Dragoons, Queen Theresa accepts them. Soon after meeting Shana, she collaspes in the presence of the Sigil Stone and the White-Silver Dragoon Spirit chooses Miranda as it's host. She is unsure of what to do with it, but accompanies the party as a representative of Deningrad and as a Dragoon.

She is fierce and strict, and hides knowledge of the Divine Moon Mirror until Lloyd abducts Queen Theresa. She leads them to where it is kept, and after the party rescues Theresa, the Queen tells Miranda to travel with Dart and accept her role as Dragoon.

It is revealed that Miranda was abandoned by her parents. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother abandoned her. She carries much lingering resentment to her mother, because her father was at least present. Initially, Dart and his group assumed Queen Theresa was Miranda's mother until she told them otherwise. It was hard for her to picture her mother's face, but one thing she always remembered is that there were roses on the mantle whenever she remembered her mother. Because of this, she hates roses, and there is hostility directed towards Rose as well. The two women repeatedly clash, with Miranda even slapping Rose.

Miranda confronts her mother on the Moon that Never Sets and finally accepts that her mother was doing what she thought was best, because Queen Theresa could be a better mother and give Miranda everything she wanted, more so then Miranda's birth mother could.

[edit] Other Significant Characters

[edit] Lloyd

A wingly of great strength who ends up manipulating Emperor Doel, thus causing the Serdian War. Lloyd claims to work for a reborn Emperor Diaz. Lloyd's main purpose in Serdio, Tiberoa, and Mille Seaseau are the divine moon objects, The Moon Gem from Serdio, The Moon Dagger from Tiberoa and The Moon Mirror from Mille Seaseau. He claims that with the Divine Moon Objects, he can start a new world with his own utopia. Lloyd is the man responsible for the death of Lavitz Slambert. Lloyd murdered him with the Dragon Buster. Lloyd dies at the hands of Melbu Frahma, not before giving Dart the Divine Dragoon Spirit and Rose the Dragon Buster.

[edit] Lenus

Lenus is a wingly. Through Lloyd, she obtains the Dragoon Spirit of the Blue-Eyed Dragon. In order to obtain the Moon Dagger, she disguises herself as Princess Emille from Tiberoa, and holds the real one hostage in another dimension. The party foils her plans and fights her once in the Twin Towers in Fletz, though she escapes with the Moon Dagger. The party fights her once more in her Dragoon form along with the Water Dragon, Regole. After her defeat, she proclaims her love for Lloyd and makes a final blow towards Dart, which he deflects.

[edit] Queen Theresa

Queen Theresa was the royal leader of Mille Seseau for more than fifty-eight years. She was sometimes known as Theresa the Barren (as she could not bear children), and was immortalized as the Queen who surrendered the Moon Mirror. Theresa's reign was a period marked by increased power and influence, as well as great turmoil.

[edit] Emperor Diaz

The Holy Emperor of Gloriano, and the man who orchestrated the Humans' victory over the Winglies during the Dragon Campaign. According to Rose, he was killed during the Dragon Campaign, probably by the fires that scorched Gloriano.

It is said at several points in the game that Emperor Diaz is still alive (although Rose denies this each time), and the new Diaz is the one supplying the Dragoon Spirits to Greham, Emperor Doel and Lloyd (who gives it to Lenus).

[edit] Zieg Feld

The very first human being to be recognized by the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit. He was the fiance of Rose. He fought alongside Rose and five other humans (who were recognized by the Dragoon Spirits) in the Dragon Campaign. During the Dragon Campaign, he killed the Wingly leader Melbu Frahma but at the same time, Melbu was able to petrify Zieg for 11,000 years. 11,000 after the petrification, the petrification wore off and Zieg was back to normal. He married the runaway daughter of Haschel, Claire (believing his fiance Rose died after 11,000 years). The two had a child named Dart. While the three were living in Neet, the Black Monster destroyed the village and Zieg was presumed dead after Dart found his memento(the dragoon spirit).

During Dart's journey, the group encountered Emperor Diaz, which was really Dart's father Zieg, possessed by the soul of Melbu Frahma. After Zieg broke all of the Signet Spheres, the Moon fell to the earth. Dart travelled into the moon, where Zieg was waiting. When Dart and his friends encountered Zieg, he stole the Red-Eye dragoon spirit from Dart. Zieg tried to finish off Dart and his friends but they defeated him and forced Melbu Frahma's spirit out of Zieg. After Dart and his friends defeated Melbu Frahma, Zieg and Rose finished Melbu off and the two died inside the moon when it exploded.

[edit] Melbu Frahma

Main article: Melbu Frahma

The Dictator of the great Wingly civilization. His only appearance during this time is during an FMV sequence of the Dragon Campaign where he is seen making his final stand against the Red-Eye Dragoon Zieg Feld and a young Rose, where he meets his death with a stab wound through the heart from Zieg. He then uses the last of his magic to inflict a dying curse of petrification upon Zieg. This single section of the game measuring less than thirty seconds foreshadowes many of the later events in the game, such as the destruction of the Signet Spheres and the return of Melbu Frahma into Zieg's body through his Dragoon Spirit. He is eventually destroyed by both Zieg and Rose in The Moon That Never Sets.

[edit] Former Dragoons

[edit] Damia

Damia was the original Blue Sea Dragoon. The daughter of a human and a mermaid, she was only fifteen when the Dragon Campaign began. Her mermaid heritage gave her the ability to control the power of a Dragoon Spirit. She was killed by Zieg and Rose while flying to warn the humans of a wingly raid.

[edit] Syuviel

Syuviel was the original Jade Dragoon. He witnessed the darker side of Mayfil and as a result had a fear of death and spent the remainder of his life searching for a way to escape death. He died when a wingly arrow pierced his eye.

[edit] Belzac

Belzac was the original Golden Dragoon. He was in love with Shirley and impaled by a Virage trying to protect her.

[edit] Kanzas

Kanzas was the original Violet Dragoon. It was Shirley who convinced Kanzas to join the Dragoons which contrasted his bloodthristy reputation. He blew himself up to defeat a Super Virage.

[edit] Minor Characters

[edit] Greham

Former captain of the Fifth Knighthood. He ended up betraying Servi Slambert and bringing about the events which led to his death. Emperor Doel gave Greham the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragon, and became Feyrbrand's master. He was confronted by the Dragoons in the Dragon's Nest, and was mortally wounded by Lavitz.

[edit] Claire Feld

Claire was the daughter of Haschel, and the mother of Dart Feld. She was being trained in the Art of Rouge by her father, but after losing her temper (which led to a close friend being injured), she was banished from her father's sight. Eventually, she met Zieg Feld, and they had a son, Dart. When the Black Monster came to Neet, Claire followed Zieg into the inferno. It is unknown what happened afterward, but it's likely that Claire died in Neet.

[edit] Luanna

Main article: Luanna

Luanna was the Second Sacred Sister of Mille Seseau. She was the only other survivor of Neet, an event which left her blind. In return, she is able to see into people's hearts.

[edit] Fruegel

Fruegel is the chief warder of Hellena Prison. He is tall, burly, and quite reckless, as well as being notoriously profane. He is also extremely sadistic, as proven by his tendencies to torture prisoners of Hellena, as well as feed them to the beast that lies within its dungeons.

It was Fruegel who was ordered by the man in black to take the head of King Albert when he was taken captive, and almost succeeded in doing so until Lavitz and the rest showed up. Fruegel attacked them in hopes of butchering them, but Lavitz thrust his spear into the warden's belly and killed him.

[edit] Mappi

Mappi is a member of the Gehrich Gang, a shadowy crime ring run by the disgraced Rouge student Gehrich. He is silent and quick, enabling him to steal the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit.

[edit] Emperor Doel

Emperor Doel achieved fame as the monarch who started the Serdian Civil War after murdering his older brother, King Carlo. He reigned for nineteen years in Sandora, claiming that he was saving Serdio from an incompetent ruler (his brother). Emperor Doel married Karina who died prior to the events of the game.

It was Doel who had Shana kidnapped and sent to Hellena Prison, under orders from Lloyd. Lloyd granted him two Dragoon Spirits, one of which (the Jade Dragoon Spirit) he gave to his trusted ally, Greham. The other, the Violet Dragoon Spirit, he kept for himself.

He fought Dart and his group at the Black Castle in Kazas, during which he was revealed to be the Violet Dragoon. He was eventually mortally wounded, and died after telling the group to pursue Lloyd in Tiberoa. He reappears as a vision during Kongol's trial and Albert fights a shadowy Doel on the Moon That Never Sets.

[edit] King Carlo

The father of Albert, and the King of Serdio. He was deemed as an unfit ruler by his younger brother, Emperor Doel, who assassinated Carlo and caused the rift that sparked the Serdian Civil War.
