The Incredible Hulk follows the story of David Banner, a physician/scientist who has been traumatized by the loss of his wife in a fatal car accident. His guilt over his inability to save her from the burning wreckage drives him to conduct research into the area of gamma radiation. After being doused with a dangerously high level of gamma radiation, David begins to metamorphosize into a giant, green hulk every time he becomes angry. After a lab explosion claims the life of a friend, David goes on the run from an intrepid reporter, Jack McGee, who believes the Hulk is responsible for the death of both David and his friend. The rest of the series deals with David traveling across the country, attempting to find a cure for his transformations, while at the same time trying to make sure McGee doesn't discover that he's still alive for fear that he'll know that he is the Hulk.
