List of RLM aircraft designations
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of aircraft type numbers allocated by an institution under the direction of Heereswaffenamt (before May 1933) and the RLM between 1933 and 1945 for German military and civilian aircraft. See RLM aircraft designation system for an explanation of how these numbers were used.
There is no single "master list" applicable all the way from 1933 to 1945 - numbers were occasionally duplicated, reallocated, or re-used. This list is primarily based on the one published in Heinz J. Nowarra's Die deutsche Luftrüstung 1933-1945 ("German Air Armament 1933-1945"), a standard reference work on German aviation of the period.
For each number, alternatives are provided when sources conflict. In most cases, both allocations will have probably been correct at one time or another. In some cases, the list in Nowarra indicates that a number was not allocated, even when other sources suggest that it was. In this table, such numbers are shown as Not allocated, with alternatives listed below them.
