This article contains episode summaries for the American drama/adventure television series Prison Break. The first season premiered on 29 August 2005 and went on hiatus on 28 November 2005. The show then resumed on 20 March 2006.

	Michael Scofield goes to Fox River State Penitentiary, where he tells his brother, Lincoln Burrows (who is about to be executed for a crime Michael believes he is innocent of), that he is going to break them both out of prison. Mafia boss John Abruzzi finds out Michael knows the whereabouts of the informant who put Abruzzi away.

	Trouble is brewing in the prison, with a race riot imminent. Michael has trouble retrieving a screw from the bleachers, which are property of fellow inmate T-Bag, and PUGNAc from C-Note. Veronica receives a security tape showing Lincoln shooting Steadman, and believes he's guilty.

	Michael tests Sucre's ability to keep a secret, and is pleased with his loyalty. However, Sucre is annoyed with the loss of his conjugals for a test, and rejects Michael's offer to break out. Not wanting to be implicated in the break out, he requests a cell transfer. Abruzzi makes up with Michael by beating up T-Bag.

	Michael gets a new cell mate, Haywire, who complicates proceedings by promising to report any break out attempts to Captain Bellick. He also starts to notice Michael's tattoos, and realises there is a pathway hidden inside them. Sucre loses his girlfriend to his cousin, and decides he wants back in on the escape plan.

	Michael convinces Warden Pope to deny the transfer order, but Agents Kellerman and Hale blackmail Pope into changing his mind. Michael sneaks onto the prison's roof and times the reaction time of police when he is found missing. Veronica and Nick find proof the security tape is fake, but the tapes are destroyed.

	Michael needs the prison put in lockdown to stop count at night. He turns off the A/C, getting inmates riled up. Michael and Sucre work together to dig through a wall. A large riot starts, threatening Dr Tancredi in sick bay. T-Bag takes a guard hostage, and stumbles across the hole in Scofield's cell.

	Michael crawls through the pipes to rescue Dr Tancredi from rioters. T-Bag wants in on the escape plan and kills Bob to keep the escape a secret. Sucre and Abruzzi finish breaking through a concrete wall. Veronica and Nick trace an anonymous call to a phonebox in Washington DC, but are threatened to drop the investigation.

	Michael finds out a storeroom fundamental to the escape has been converted into a break room. Veronica and Nick are nearly killed by an explosion, and LJ's mother and step-father are killed by Kellerman and Hale. Bellick starts an investigation into Bob's murder. Westmoreland takes revenge for the death of his cat.

	Michael tries to protect a new inmate being targeted by T-Bag. Abruzzi's loses the support of Philly Falzone, putting the escape plan in danger. Bellick revokes Abruzzi's control of PI. C-Note notices rubble from the break room dumped in the yard. LJ avoids the Secret Service, and meets Veronica and Nick in New Norcia.

	C-Note joins the new PI team and find the hole in the break room. Michael give up the location of Fibonacci, and Abruzzi regains control of PI. C-Note tells Michael he knows about the escape and joins in. Hale and Kellerman are introduced to [[Quinn, a member of the Company, who sets about finding Veronica, Nick and LJ.

	Nika, Michael's wife, gives him a credit card, which Michael uses to open a locked door and receive personal items from storage. Tweener steals a watch from a guard that originally belonged to Michael. Westmoreland's daughter is terminally ill, and he wants to escape to see her. Quinn finds Veronica, Nick and LJ.

	There are too many people for the escape to work - one must leave. Maricruz is pregnant with Sucre's baby, but is going to marry Hector. Abruzzi threatens T-Bag, but T-Bag slashes Abruzzi's throat. Lincoln punches a guard to stop them entering the break room and is put in solitary. Hale offers information to exonerate Lincoln.

	Michael sends a pill to Lincoln that will induce food poisoning and send him to the infirmary. The team, locked in the break room, start breaking out at night. A corroded pipe beneath the infirmary was replaced that day, preventing the team from reaching Lincoln. Hale is shot by Kellerman before giving information to Veronica.

	Michael uses a rat to fry the transformer of the electric chair. Tweener hears of his plan to do so, and informs Bellick, who has the transformer replaced. Veronica's appeal to the courts and Dr Trancredi's pleas to her father, the Governor, are unsuccessful. Veronica and Michael see Lincoln for final visitation.

	Lincoln is saved at the last minute when someone anonymously hands evidence to the judge. Lincoln thinks he saw his father in the witness room. While sneaking around the psych ward in a guards uniform, Michael severely burns his back on a hot pipe, ruining part of the tattoo necessary for the escape.

	This story shows life 3 years ago. Michael learns of his brother's love for him. Sucre is caught robbing a store when his cousin dobs him in. C-Note is dishonorably discharged for reporting prisoner torture in Iraq. T-Bag is reported to police by his girlfriend and vows revenge. Dr Tancredi, a morphine user, decides to come clean.

	Michael refuses to say how he got his burn and is sent to solitary, where he suffers a mental breakdown. Sucre sneaks out of his cell to the break room, and fills in the hole with cement. Veronica, Nick and LJ return to New Norcia to retrieve Quinn's cellphone. LJ finds Kellerman's address and shoots him before being arrested.

	Michael tries to get Haywire to sketch the missing bit of tattoo. Geary wants to sell Scofield's and Sucre's cell. The team try to raise money to buy it, but Geary just takes their money and walks off. Michael dobs Geary in for the burn on his back. Lincoln is granted leave to see his son, but the vehicle he's in is hit by a truck.

	Lincoln is rescued from the car crash by his father, and is forced to give himself up to the police. Nika meets Dr Tancredi, steals her key and gives them to Michael. Sara suspects Michael, and immediately has the locks replaced. Abruzzi returns and wants to rejoin the escape team. Tweener tells Bellick about the escape.
