[edit] Acara

Acara (green)
Acara (green)

The Acara is a four-legged cat-like creature with butterfly-like ears and two flexible horns that act as sonar detectors underwater.[2] Acaras are amphibious and their fur keeps them warm when they dive deep into the ocean.[3] In general, they tend to be very playful and enjoy exploring, racing, and looking for hidden treasure under the sea.[4]

When first introduced on the Neopets website on April 28, 2000, the pet now known as the Acara was an otter-like Neopet called the Tigren.[5] They were chosen from a player's design as part of a Create-A-Pet contest.[citation needed] The name was changed on July 19 along with the Polypup's change to the Gelert.[6] The news page touted the change as "evolution", in keeping with the Pokémon-like feel that the pets originally had. On their pet day in 2005, the Acara received a makeover.[7]

In the Neopets TCG, Acaras are associated with the element of water.

As of February 2007, they were ranked 8th of 50+ species in popularity, with over 6.6 million created.[8]

[edit] Aisha

Aisha (yellow)
Aisha (yellow)

The Aisha resembles a cat with four ears, two are shaped like normal cat ears, while two resemble antennae that end heart-shaped ears. Aishas are intelligent, playful Neopets that have a talent for magic. This magic is rumoured to be attributed to the "A"-shaped charm they wear around their necks. Aishas also have a six-eared alien version and are the only pets on the site that can be coloured "Alien".[9]

In the Neopets TCG game, Aishas are commonly associated with the element of light.

As of February 2007, they rank 20th out of the 50+ species, with over 4 million created.

[edit] Blumaroo

Blumaroo (red)
Blumaroo (red)

Blumaroos are kangaroo-like, reminiscent of the popular Winnie the Pooh character, Tigger (who also bounced around on his tail), and were first introduced on May 25, 2000.[10] They were created by a Neopets staff member. They have long, floppy ears, strong tails to bounce on and a long, tapir-like face. They are generally fun-loving creatures who like nothing better than a festival or to bounce around while singing cheery tunes. This explains the somewhat carnival-like appearance of their native home, Roo Island. It is said that Blumaroos love nachos. In the game "Dice-a-roo," they play the main neopet, with the catchphrase "A passing blumaroo says, tra la la!"

In the Neopets TCG, Blumaroos are associated with the element of air.

As of February 2007, the Blumaroo is ranked 34th out of 50+ species, with over 2.2 million created.

[edit] Bori

Bori (green)
Bori (green)

The Bori is the 49th Neopet and was released on October 13, 2004 to coincide with the Hannah and the Ice Caves plot. Bori are an underground armadillo-like race with fox-like heads and furry bodies who were kept in an enchanted sleep by some strange forces since Neopia's creation. They were awoken in the Hannah and the Ice Caves plot. Although their claws are sharp enough to penetrate stone, they have timid personalities and dislike coming to the surface. They are afraid of the Bringer of Night, a Neopets villain.

The plural of Bori is Bori and not, contrary to popular belief, Boris.

Bori are not a limited edition pet, but their ice colour could only be accessed by users who took part in a Yahoo! Toolbar promotion.

In the Neopets TCG, Bori are associated with the element of earth.

As of February 2007, it is ranked 35th out of 50+ species, with over 2.2 million created. On the popularity page, it is seen teasing the Ruki, because it is more popular.

[edit] Bruce

Bruce (red)
Bruce (red)

The Bruce is one of the original Neopets. It first resembled Bruce Forsyth, and has been redrawn many times, first to a caricature of Bruce Forsyth, and then a penguin, retaining only the bowtie from its first incarnation, to coincide with the introduction of Terror Mountain on November 16, 2000. Despite their appearance, Bruces are generally good at sports and love to dance, compete in winter games, and eat cold food. They originally came from the snow-covered Terror Mountain region.

In the Neopets TCG, Bruces are associated with the element of light.

As of February 2007, they were the 12th most popular out of 50+ available species. Over 5.9 million have been created.

[edit] Buzz

Buzz (blue)
Buzz (blue)

The Buzz is a dragonfly-like species of Neopet. Buzz (the plural, according to Neopets, is not Buzzes) have excellent eyesight and can fly very quickly, allowing them to easily obtain the berries they love to eat. They are also predatory despite having tiny teeth. They may look mean but have kind personalities.

When first introduced on January 11, 2000, the pet now called the Buzz was once called the Fleye, which resembled a flying eyeball, and was changed into its current reptilian insect design on July 24, 2000.

In the Neopets TCG, Buzz are associated with the element of darkness.

As of February 2007, the Buzz is ranked about 37th out of 50+ species, with over 1.9 million created.

[edit] Chia

Chia (green)
Chia (green)

Chias are generally playful and friendly little creatures who love to explore.

The very first Neopet, Thyassa the Chia, was "born" on November 14, 1999 (the day before the site was officially opened).[citation needed] Chias appear to be favourites with Neopets staff (Donna has stated that the Chia is her favourite because it's so easy to draw). They are available in a wide array of variations which are not available to any other pet species. These variations make them look like fruits and vegetables (for example, the Orange Chia looks like an actual orange instead of simply being orange in colour.) Chias are well known for being the food of Lupes, and perhaps that accounts for the many colours, or rather, flavours, of Chias.

As of February 2007, the Chia is ranked about 28th out of 52 species. Over 2.7 million have been created.

[edit] Chomby

Chomby (green)
Chomby (green)

The Chomby is a limited edition species of Neopet. It is a shy, plant-eating dinosaur who is most happy when munching on leaves and grasses. The weight of a moving Chomby can cause small earthquakes. They appeared on March 22, 2001, and are a limited edition species, which are occasionally released during special events.

In the Neopets trading card game, Chombies are associated with the element of light.

As of February 2007, they rank 48th out of the 52 species, with over 340,000 created.

[edit] Cybunny

Cybunny (yellow)
Cybunny (yellow)

The Cybunny is a limited edition species of Neopet, introduced on July 10. They resemble rabbits and often live in Neopia's coldest regions, where they can easily camouflage against the snow and frolic in the winter air. Young Cybunnies generally love to play games. Like real rabbits, they are very swift.

Because they are limited edition, Cybunnies are rare in Neopia. A few are made available on the site periodically; players can also use certain items to change their pets into Cybunnies, such as Morphing Potions. Cybunnies are also rare in that selecting one of the four default colors changes the tuft of fur around its neck, while the fur on its body remains white.

In the Neopets TCG, Cybunnies are associated with the element of earth.

As of February 2007, the Cybunny is ranked about 46th out of 50+ species, with over 450,000 created.

[edit] Draik

Draik (blue)
Draik (blue)

The Draik is a Limited species. They were released on June 25, 2002. They resemble small dragons and are thought to have originated from Meridell. They can be obtained by purchasing a Draik Egg from Meridell's food shop and taking it to the hatchery, also located in Meridell. Alternatively, players can buy the Draik Egg from Auctions, Trades, or shops of neopet users.

In the Neopets trading card game, Draiks are associated with the element of Fire.

As of February 2007, the Draik is ranked 53rd out of 50+ species. Just over 10,000 have been created.

September 10 is Draik day.

[edit] Elephante

Elephante (red)
Elephante (red)

The Elephante was introduced to the site on January 13, 2000. Elephantes are similar to elephants. The only differences are two small wings and a fluffy rabbit-like tail. They are not completely harmless, as they are able to shoot objects from their trunks with great accuracy. They are generally kind and generous.

In the Neopets TCG, Elephantes are associated with the element of air.

As of February 2007, the Elephante is ranked 25th out of 50+ species. Over 2.8 million have been created.

[edit] Eyrie

Eyrie (green)
Eyrie (green)

The Eyrie resemble a griffin. Eyries live in tropical regions and like to play but can be quite fierce and cunning in battle, especially if their territory is ever threatened. They are adventurous, eager to learn, and noble.

The pet now called the Eyrie was originally the Cerpull, one of the original pets, which looked more like a dragon than a griffin. It was first changed into the more gentle Tatsu on July 13, 2000, before being completely redesigned to the current Eyrie on January 26th 2001. The definition of an eyrie is "the lofty nest of a bird of prey (such as a hawk or eagle)" or "any habitation at a high altitude", which makes it an excellent name for a neopet that resembles a bird.

In the Neopets TCG, Eyries are associated with the element of air.

As of February 2007, they were ranked 7th most popular out of 50+ available species. Over 6.7 million have been created.

[edit] Flotsam

Flotsam (yellow)
Flotsam (yellow)

The Flotsam is one of the original Neopets. Dolphin-like in appearance, Flotsam love to swim the Neopian oceans and are quick to sense danger. They cannot breathe underwater, so they enjoy seeing how far they can dive while holding their breath. Flotsams were originally limited edition but no longer are. The Flotsam was originally a goldfish-like creature that was transformed into a dolphin on June 22, 2000. The horn on its head may be a reference to narwhals, a species of whale.

In the Neopets TCG, Flotsam are rather obviously associated with the element of water.

As of February 2007, the Flotsam is ranked 23rd out of 50+ species. Over 3.2 million have been created.

[edit] Gelert

Gelert (red)
Gelert (red)

The Gelert is a dog-like species of Neopet whose name comes from a legendary Welsh dog. Gelerts are generally courageous, selfless, faithful, and brave, much like Gelert, the hunting hound from whom they take their name. They are also easily confused.

The Gelert was originally called the Polypup and released on January 25, 2000. It looked more like a wingless dragon than a dog and had shorter, thicker ears and tail. It also wore a collar, where the current Gelert does not. It was changed into the Gelert, a more greyhound-like creature, on July 19, 2000.[6]

In the Neopets TCG, Gelerts are associated with the element of fire.

As of February 2007, they were ranked 6th in popularity out of 50+ available species. Over 7.7 million have been created.

[edit] Gnorbu

Gnorbu (yellow)
Gnorbu (yellow)

The Gnorbu resembles a llama with a lion's mane and a short neck and was the winner of the April Fools Neopet Contest 2005 and was released on January 6, 2006. It is based on the blue Llamameeah that was in the contest. The new version has created controversy and dissatisfaction among Neopians who liked the characteristics of the Llamameeah that were removed in the Gnorbu, or the addition of certain elements to the Gnorbu (e.g. the heavy mane) that were not present in the original Llamameeah design.

They are great jokers and are very social but dislike it when people do not pronounce the word "Gnorbu" correctly (pronounced NOR-boo).

As of February 2007, they were ranked 45th out of the 50+ species, with over 740,000 created.

[edit] Grarrl

Grarrl (blue)
Grarrl (blue)

The Grarrl resembles a Tyrannosaurus rex. The Grarrl has the distinction, along with the Chia, of being one of the first Neopet species ever created. In an editorial of the Neopian Times it is revealed that it is the first drawn Neopet. They come from the Neopian world of Tyrannia. They are generally among the strongest and fiercest Neopets and can eat about anything. They enjoy causing destruction and intimidating other Neopets.

In the Neopets TCG, Grarrls are associated with the element of darkness.

As of February 2007, the Grarrl is ranked 19th out of 50+ species. Over 4.2 million have been created.

[edit] Grundo

Grundo
Grundo

The Grundos resembles a space alien. They were originally imprisoned by the evil Dr. Sloth, who transformed them into large, intimidating servants/slaves. They are, however, naturally friendly, although not the brightest (When created, the Grundo's intelligence is listed as "dim witted", while all other pets start out as "average"). They were released on August 24, 2000.

In the early days of the site, they were originally said to have originated from a far away planet called "Doran"; however, this has been recanted and now Grundos are originally from Neopia's moon, Kreludor. An aspect they once possessed was that they could only speak in backwards English (i.e. "olleh" meant "hello"). Now they speak normally

Grundos, a restricted species, are unique among the various species of Neopets in that they must be adopted from the Virtupets Space Station. There they are also available in seven different colours instead of the four available to other pets. The reason for this unusual situation is that they were originally adopted by players as part of one of Neopets' plots in order to put a stop to one of Dr. Sloth's evil schemes. They were first put up for adoption on October 24, 2000. Grundos are the only pet that can be colored marshmellow. A long time ago, Grundos used to be allowed to have special characters and spaces in their names.

In the Neopets TCG, Grundos are associated with the element of light.

As of February 2007, the Grundo ranked 11th out of 50+ species on the site. Over 6.1 million have been created.

[edit] Hissi

Hissi (yellow)
Hissi (yellow)

The Hissi is a snake-like Neopet with wings. It was released May 4, 2005. Hissi have acute vision and a keen sense of smell which makes them extremely good at games of hide and seek.

In the Neopets TCG, Hissis are associated with the element of darkness.

Because they are "limited edition", not very many have been created. As of February 2007, they are the 51st most popular out of the 50+ existing Neopets, with just over 200,000 created.

[edit] Ixi

Ixi (blue)
Ixi (blue)

The Ixi is a goat-like creature. They originally came from the Neopian world of Meridell and were the 46th species introduced on the site. Before the introduction of the Yurble and Ruki in May and July of 2004, the Ixi enjoyed the status of newest species for almost two years. They were released on July 11, 2002 as a limited edition species, but they are no longer limited edition. In general, they are curious, dainty, and enjoy playing hide and seek. Their species name may have been derived from Ixion, the father of centaurs in Greek mythology.

In the Neopets TCG, Ixis are associated with the element of Earth.

As of February 2007, the Ixi ranked 13th out of 50+ species on the site. Over 5.8 million have been created.

[edit] Jetsam

Jetsam (red)
Jetsam (red)

Jetsam are shark-like creatures. They tend to be unfriendly and are powerful fighters. The Jetsam was one of the original Neopets, when they resembled tiny piranha - but were changed into sharks on June 22, 2000.

Due the loss of their habitat and food source during the destruction of Maraqua, they are limited edition. A few may be made available on the site periodically; players can also use certain items to change their pets into Jetsam.

In the Neopets TCG, Jetsam are associated with the element of water.

As of February 2007, the Jetsam ranked 44th out of 50+ species on the site. Just over 750,000 have been created.

[edit] JubJub

JubJub
JubJub

JubJubs resemble furry balls of fluff with large feet and round eyes. Most JubJubs have black eyes and orange feet, although this may vary when a JubJub is "painted" a colour other than the standard red, yellow, green, or blue. JubJubs can be painted many of the same colours as other Neopets and a more exotic Coconut colour. They may also be painted Garlic, a characteristic they share with the similar-looking Kiko.

JubJubs are generally shy creatures. When threatened, they can curl into a ball and roll with astonishing speed. They can also make a deafening screech to drive off attackers. There has been some question as to whether JubJubs are related to the toy known as the Fuzzle, as the Fuzzles are similar to JubJubs in appearance. However, an entry in the Neopets help files denounces the rumour that Fuzzles are baby JubJubs, and explains that they are just toys.[11]

The JubJub was originally called the JibJib and had a slightly different appearance. The JibJib was one of the site's original pets. The name was changed, for reasons unexplained, on August 23, 2000. The JubJub attained its current name from the beast called the JubJub Bird in the Lewis Carroll poem, Jabberwocky; however, the Neopian JubJub does not resemble a bird in the least.[citation needed]

The JubJub idea was a directly stolen from a creature in Fighting Fantasy books by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. The creature looked exactly the same and had the same name. They had to change the name because of this.[citation needed]

The JubJub's appearance was updated on June 6, 2006. Now, they stand on their two feet, and their hair is styled, like the picture to the left.

In the Neopets TCG, JubJubs are associated with the element of air.

As of March 2007, the JubJub ranked 9th out of 50+ species on the site. Over 6.6 million have been created.

[edit] Kacheek

Kacheek
Kacheek

The Kacheek resembles a cross between a kitty cat and a dog. Kacheeks are generally pleasant and are described on the Neopets site as fun-loving, calm, peaceful, and modest. They inhabit lush meadows, although they enjoy climbing things and avoid violence whenever possible. They love to gather flowers.

The Kacheek was first known as the Badeek, one of the original pets on the site. It wore dark glasses and a less cheerful expression. Kacheeks are also cuter and stronger than Badeek.

In the Neopets TCG, Kacheeks are associated with the element of light.

As of February 2007, over 11.4 million Kacheeks had been created, placing it at 3rd most popular Neopet.

[edit] Kau

Kau
Kau

The Kau resembles a bull. Kaus generally move in herds and enjoy singing, although they can only "moo". They are shy but have no problem using their horns if threatened.

The pet now known as the Kau was originally named Macy Gray and was designed to look like the singer carrying a ray gun. It was one of the original pets on the site. Whether for copyright reasons or because the Macy Gray was not intended to be more than a passing joke, it was changed to the Kau fairly quickly on July 26, 2000.

In the Neopets TCG, Kaus are associated with the element of Earth.

As of February 2007, the Kau ranked 21st out of 50+ species on the site. Over 4.0 million have been created.

[edit] Kiko

Kiko
Kiko

Kikos are amphibious Neopets who resemble small floating spheres with wide eyes and flipper-like, clawed hands. All Kikos wear adhesive bandages on their heads and have a single curl of hair. As babies, they cannot leave the water for long periods of time, and they like to remain near it as adults. They can breathe equally well in water and air. Although their flipper-like hands appear weak, they can be used to propel the Kiko at high speeds while in water.

The Kiko was one of the original pets on the site.

Kikos are one of the few Neopets species to receive their own "Mini-World" in Neopia. Kiko Lake is home to 9,400 Neopets, 92% of whom are Kikos. Kikos were changed to a limited edition pet around the time Kiko Lake was introduced. Kikos have also been given some exotic colours given to few other pets. They are the only pet besides the JubJub who can become the colours "Clay" or "Garlic," the only one besides the Chia who can become "Chokato", and one of a handful of pets who can be painted "Sponge."

Kikos have been much less heavily merchandised in the "real world" than other pets, although they were featured as a plushie in a Neopets McDonald's promotion.

In the Neopets TCG, Kikos are associated with the element of water.

As of February 2007, Kikos hold the position of 42nd most popular out of the 50+ species, with just over 1.0 million in existence. The Kiko's status as limited edition pet may account for their low numbers.

[edit] Koi

Koi
Koi

Friendly, outgoing, and inventive fish, Koi (the name is both singular and plural) were the natives of the underwater city of Maraqua prior to its destruction. Their many inventions include the Utility Fish, described as 'a Petpet and a household helper rolled into one'. They were released on October 6, 2000.

Koi were originally similar to humanoid goldfish but were later changed to a fish that shares traits with siamese fighting fish and real-life koi.

Originally freely available when it was added, the destruction of Old Maraqua reduced their numbers and made them limited edition, meaning that Koi are rare in Neopia. Even though Maraqua has been rebuilt, they are still limited edition. A few are made available on the site periodically and players can also use certain items to change their pets into Koi.

In the Neopets TCG, Koi are associated with the element of water.

As of February 2007, Koi were the 49th most popular Neopet out of the 50+ species, with just over 325,000 created.

[edit] Korbat

Korbat
Korbat

Korbats resemble white long-tail bats with coloured wings and ears, although certain special versions come in other colours. With small, pointed teeth, they look vaguely vampiric but are generally friendly. They are nocturnal and are usually inquisitive and mischievous. They have an impressive sense of smell and are happiest during a full moon. The Korbat was one of the original pets on the site.

In the Neopets TCG, Korbats are associated with the element of darkness.

As of February 2007 the Korbat is the 29th most popular Neopet out the 50+ species, with over 2.7 million created.

[edit] Kougra

Kougra
Kougra

The Kougra resembles a small tiger. Kougras come from the Neopian world of Mystery Island, where they enjoy eating fruit despite their carnivorous appearance. Kougras are very friendly and playful. The stripes on their bodies serve to camouflage them in the wilderness, and they enjoy pouncing on moving objects - although they're never quite sure what to do with their prey once it's been caught.

Kougras were released on August 10, 2000, after winning a contest for the pet from the newly discovered Mystery Island the day before. They were redesigned in the summer of 2004, but many players were unhappy with the Kougra's "makeover." In August 2004, they were given the opportunity to vote on a second redesign of the species.

In the Neopets TCG, Kougras are associated with the element of fire.

As of February 2007, Kougras are rated the 2nd most popular species out of 50+ with over 11.5 million created.

[edit] Krawk

Krawk
Krawk

Resembling large caiman or crocodiles in appearance, most Krawks come from Krawk Island. Krawks are generally loyal but mischievous and boast many sharp teeth, an acute sense of smell, and excellent vision. Krawks evolved from rare Tyrannian Petpets that were driven out of Tyrannia and onto an island in the sea.

Petpet Krawks are transformed into Neopets using the fungus from the Krawk Island "Fungus Cave". In game terms, this means that they are "restricted" species and cannot be created by players in the usual way. As a result, they are the rarest species of Neopet. Their transformation from Petpets was first introduced on January 10, 2002. When they transform, they retain their colour from when they were a petpet.

In the Neopets TCG, Krawks are associated with the element of darkness.

As of February 2007, roughly 2,200 have been created, making them the least populated Neopet and the winner of the "Wooden Spoon Award". Their status as least popular can be accounted for by their "restricted" status.

[edit] Kyrii

Kyrii
Kyrii

Kyrii resemble weasels (which bear a strong resemblance to ferrets) but get along well with other species. Their name serves as both singular and plural, though sometimes the Island Mystic says "Kyriies". Their origin is uncertain; they are said to have appeared in Neopia without any notice one day, where they immediately started to make friends. They love to explore, and refuse to eat apples.

The pet now called the Kyrii was originally known as the Fuzio (one of the original pets on the site), but it was changed due to copyright issues. The Fuzio had a very different look from the Kyrii; it was basically a ball of fluff (similar to the JubJub), with floating, detached gloves and sneakers. Fuzios were social and fun-loving, and they enjoyed skateboarding according to Neopets' profile of the species. The Fuzio's new look was chosen by a poll of Neopets users, who had five new species of pets from which to choose the Fuzio's replacement. The Kyrii won the majority of the vote, and on February 9, 2001, the Fuzio was renamed and all images of it were replaced (see Neopets news from February 1-14, 2001). The only remotely famous Fuzio in Neopia was David Fuzio, founder of the company Yippee! on the Neopets StockMarket along with Jubjub Yang. (Yippee! is a parody of Yahoo! and its founders David Filo and Jerry Yang.)

In the Neopets TCG, Kyrii are associated with the element of fire.

As of February 2007, over 2.2 million Kyrii have been created, making them the 36th most popular Neopet out of the 50+ species.

[edit] Lenny

Lenny
Lenny

The Lenny is a bird-like Neopet, possibly based on a stork. They are generally curious, clever, and intelligent. They can fly but only for short distances. The Lenny was one of the original pets on the site.

Lennies are among the rarer species, even though they are not limited edition. However, some Lenny owners tend to be particularly proud of their unusual pets. Many people like making jokes about this "nerdy" Neopet.

Many painted Lennies resemble real-world flying creatures: Pink Lennies stands on one leg and their beak and wings are tipped with black to resemble flamingos; Faerie Lennies are coloured to resemble a peacock; Mutant Lennies resemble vultures; Rainbow Lennies resemble macaws; Tyrannian Lennies resemble pterodactyls.

In the Neopets TCG, Lennies are associated with the element of air.

As of February 2007, the Lenny is the 41st most common Neopet with over 1.2 million in existence.

[edit] Lupe

Lupe
Lupe

The Lupe resembles a wolf but more like a domestic canine, though its name probably comes from the Latin word lupus ("wolf"). Lupes make particularly loyal pets. They love eating Chias, but mostly as treats that satisfy their needs and not go hungry. They are instinctually good at hunting and protecting friends. They were originally introduced on January 13, 2000, by a user Create-a-Pet contest. Lupes were changed at one time, because the old image of a Lupe was not too attractive.[citation needed]

In the Neopets TCG, Lupes are associated with the element of Earth.

Lupes are among the most popular species. As of February 2007, they were the 4th most popular pet with over 9.8 million created. Many plots featured on the site have involved a Lupe as a main character, villain, or supporting character.

[edit] Lutari

The Lutari was released on April 18, 2006, more than a year since the first Lutari, Mr. Chipper, was introduced after the end of the Hannah and the Ice Caves plot. The name Lutari is similar to the Latin genus name Lutra for otters, which it somewhat resembles. The pets were made available for a short time on Lutari Day and after the release of Lutari Island. The Lab Ray is one way to get a Lutari. Another way for a player to obtain a Lutari is by downloading Neopets Mobile onto their cell phone, on which they can create a Lutari whenever they want to. If Lutaris are placed in the pound, they will disappear. It is the only known species that does so.[12] Aside from obtaining one through the Lab Ray and Neopets Mobile, this can suggest that Lutari owners can be proud of owning the pet due to the difficulty of creating one, even on days when Neopets says that they are released.

Lutaris are also "limited edition", meaning that they cannot be created any other day than their species day or on a day announced by the Neopets team. Users of the Neopets Mobile service may create Lutaris at any time from the "Create A Pet" section of the Neopets Mobile game. Tuskaninnies resemble walruses. Despite their names, they usually have no tusks. The reason for this misnomer is because they were named by a Neopets user in a competition and not by the Neopets team itself. The species name possibly comes from a combination of "usagi" (the Japanese word for rabbit) and "squirrel." Usuls prefer to live in trees. They love visitors and are very friendly and brave, making them one of the least self-obsessed neopets.

Usuls have their own series of dolls, the Barbie-like Usukis. (There is also a Quiggle-inspired Quiguki, which was an April Fool's joke that became popular in its own right.) Every year on August 20, the site holds an imaginary event called UsukiCon, which may be a reference to UshiCon. When UsukiCon is held there are often several new releases of Usuki doll sets and Usuki-themed items on the site.

Usuls can be "painted" a wide variety of colours, including the colour of "Usuki", a colour that only the Quiggle and Usuls are available in. When painted Usuki, female Usuls resemble the "Magic Hair Usuki" doll, and males look like one of the male Usuki dolls.
