List of Middle-earth Elves
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium, an Elf is an individual member of one of the races that inhabit the lands of Arda. They appear in The Hobbit and in The Lord of the Rings, but their complex history is described in full only in The Silmarillion, edited and published after Tolkien's death. More details about them are given in the author's other writings edited and published since then, such as Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle-earth. The History of Middle-earth also reveals their textual and conceptual history, as Tolkien had been writing about Elves long before The Hobbit was published.
The following is an alphabetically ordered list of Elves that are mentioned by name in Tolkien's works (only).
In the case of Elves having more than one recorded name or form of their name, these are also listed in parentheses after the most significant one within Tolkien's universe. In case of epithets usually paired with real names, they are given together without parentheses (see Elven naming conventions).
Variant names in superseded writings - writings which belong to earlier phases in the development of the stories (as found in The History of Middle-earth series) - like Damrod for Amrod, are excluded. In the case of Elves appearing only in superseded writings, like Legolas of Gondolin (distinct from Legolas of Mirkwood), they are marked with an asterisk (*).
This list also excludes the Half-elven such as Elrond and Arwen.
