List of Mega Man Zero characters

Contents

This is a list of characters for the Mega Man Zero series. Names are listed alphabetically within groups that represent their allegiances and motives. All of the characters are voiced by seiyus. (If two names are given, the names in italics are generally the Japanese version).

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Resistance

The people of the Resistance were forced to flee the tyrannical rule of Neo Arcadia, which persecuted Reploids as Mavericks regardless of whether they were of Maverick status or not.

[edit] Main characters

[edit] Ciel

CV: Rie Tanaka
For more details on this topic, see Ciel (Mega Man Zero).

A fugitive from Neo Arcadia, Ciel is a human scientist that holds a leading position in the Reploid Resistance. Once a scientist in Neo Arcadia, she created Copy X, but defected to the Reploid's side after Copy X began his program of extermination against the Reploids in the name of protecting the humans of Neo Arcadia.

Ciel means "sky" in French, which might be a pun, since many minor resistance members have a bird name (birds live in the sky) since the sky "leads" the birds, and she is the resistance leader.

In the Rockman Zero manga, Ciel has a younger sister named Cial who built the pantheons in the manga storyline and is the leader of Neo Arcadia.

[edit] Elpis / Elpizo

CV: Tsutomu Kashiwakura
For more details on this topic, see Elpizo.

The new leader of the Resistance forces in the second game. Elpizo is a former Neo Arcadian Reploid who was banished from Neo Arcadia and came to work for the Resistance. Physically, he bears a strong resemblance to Zero, with red armor and long blonde hair. He and Ciel are on the same side but have divergent goals and ideas; Elpizo believes that there is no reasoning with Neo Arcadia and they must be destroyed, while Ciel believes that, once she solves the energy crises, Neo Arcadia will become peaceful. Elpizo goes insane after all his comrades are killed in a failed raid on Neo Arcadia, and ends up seeking to unseat the Dark Elf.

[edit] Original X

CV: Takahiro Mizushima
For more details on this topic, see Mega Man X (character).

This is the original Mega Man X and original founder of Neo Arcadia. Having sacrificed his body to imprison the Dark Elf, X lives on as a ghostly Cyber Elf. He can also manifest as a holographic version of his original robot form, dressed in a blue robe with what appears to be a halo around his head. He aids Zero throughout the series and still possesses great power. After his original body is destroyed he finds himself losing power... according to the book Vile's Incident. X with the 4 guardians watched Ragnarok fall apart, it is unknown what happened to X after that.

[edit] Zero

CV: Yuuto Kazama
For more details on this topic, see Zero (Mega Man).

The main character of the series. Sometime towards the end of the Mega Man X timeline, Zero put himself into stasis. He was resurrected by Ciel and now aids the Resistance forces. Spending the first few days with resistance with little memory of his former life, Zero seemed to have doubts whether he was actually the legendary hero of that name from the past.

[edit] Minor characters

Note that most of the resistance members (not all of them) have French birds names.

[edit] Alouette

CV: Ryou Hirohashi
For more details on this topic, see Alouette (Mega Man Zero).

Alouette is the French word for "lark".

A little Reploid girl that was destined for destruction from the oppressive forces of Neo Arcadia. She was rescued by the Resistance. Ciel instantly took a liking to Alouette and adopted her as a pseudo little sister. She herself idolizes Ciel and wishes to become a scientist like her. In recent games, Alouette has been taking the role of looking after Cyber Elves.

[edit] Andre / Andrew

CV: Ikuo Nishikawa

An old Reploid hanging around the Resistance Base. Used to be in love with a human girl, but when she aged, she started to get resentful of him as he could never age. He had himself rebuilt to look older so that she wouldn't stay resentful of him and lived together with her until she died. Not once did he regret ever remodelling his body for her.

Andrew particularly loves to tell stories. In the games, he often asks Zero if he would like to listen to his stories, eventually giving some appreciation goodies. In the Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero TELOS drama track "Alouette's Diary", Andrew was too eager to tell stories, despite the fact that Alouette only wanted to ask for his suggestion for naming the Baby Elves.

Note the name Andrew is a popular male name that comes from Greek, but the right way of Resistance characters names is French in the Japanese version, so the right form of his name in the Japanese version is Andre, that is Andrew in French, Andre is the French word for "manly".

[edit] Autruche

A tall reploid known for his dull speeches. He does some grunt work around the base since he doesn't have any skills, but feels that Zero has it worse. Autruche is the French word for "Ostrich".

[edit] Cerveau

For more details on this topic, see Cerveau.

Cerveau is the French word for "brain". A Reploid engineer who was exiled with the Resistance. He is a busy and hard-working individual, but felt that he didn't match up to necessity in his engineering skills. He claims that his ideas have been stolen before, which may have led to this lack of confidence. Though at first he was doubtful of Zero's identity, he was also fascinated with the potential energy of his weaponry. Fixing and developing weapons for Zero has helped him regain confidence.

[edit] Colbor

Colbor is an eager, hardworker, but this trait has gotten him into trouble. For example, he and his squad attempted to break into a Neo Arcadian base, but only the arrival of Zero saved him from being terminated at the hands of Harpuia.

Later, he headed a Resistance rescue team to try to evacuate the humans and reploids in Neo Arcadia just before it was destroyed by Ragnarok.

His name is a mistranslation of Corbeau, the French word for "crow".

[edit] Doigt

Cerveau's helper and weapon maker. Doigt is the French word for "finger".

[edit] Faucon

Combat reploid that is traveling with Zero and the others. Faucon is the French word for "hawk".

[edit] Hibou

This hungry Reploid was seemingly built overweight and attempts to diet. He is keen on working hard and making sure that people recognize his contributions.

Hibou is the French word for "owl".

[edit] Hirondelle

Flies around and gathers information.

Hirondelle is the French word for "swallow".

[edit] Jaune / Joan

She is the blond-haired analyst Reploid girl who made her debut in Mega Man Zero 2, though she was never called by her name. The games never truly say much about her, however, a bit of her personality is shown in one drama track in RTRZ 3: Telos. There, she is portrayed as less serious than Rouge (addressing Alouette as Alouette-chan). Jaune is the French word for "yellow" and might be related to her hair color. It makes more sense that her name is Jaune since the other analyst as also a color name.

[edit] Rouge

She is the red-haired analyst Reploid girl who made her debut in Mega Man Zero 2, though she was never called by her name (although her bestiary entry in Mega Man Zero 4 states her name). The games never truly say much about her, however, a bit of her personality is shown in one drama track in RTRZ 3: Telos. There, she is portrayed as rather serious (addressing Alouette as Alouette-san), as opposed to Jaune. Rouge is the French word for "red" and might be related to her hair color.

[edit] Menart

A mischievous little Reploid that plays hooky and shirks responsibilities.

Ménure is the French word for "menura or lyre-bird". Note that his name shown in the game is a grammar mistake, which must be intentional, but can still be related to the bird's name. Probably the name Ménure is his Japanese version name.

[edit] Perroquiet

A small Reploid that wears glasses. An assistant to Ciel, he can almost always be found in the Resistance Base's archives.

Perroquet is the French word for "parrot". Note that his name as shown in the game as a grammar mistake which must be intentional but can still be clearly related to the bird's name.

[edit] Pic

A cynical reploid who make snide comments. Pic is the French word for "woodpecker".

[edit] Rocinolle

She helps nurse wounded Reploids in the Resistance Base and once looked after Harpuia when he was wounded heavily by Omega.

Rossignol is the French word for "nightingale". Note that her name as shown in the game as grammars mistakes which must be intentional but can still be clearly related to the bird's name. Probably the name Rossignol is her Japanese version name.

[edit] Caravan members

Note that all members of the caravan, including Neige, have names related to the weather. The current descriptions have been extracted directly from the MZ 4 game's database.

[edit] Brise

Human that feels no ill will toward reploids. Her grandmother used to be a student of Andrew's when he was a teacher.

Brise is the French word for "breeze".

[edit] Neige

CV: Yuko Goto

A human reporter that fled Neo Arcadia when Dr. Weil seized control. She organized a convoy of humans and guided them to Area Zero, where the crashed climate control system of the Eurasia Colony's remains was still active and had created a rare patch of real nature. Before her departure of Neo Arcadia, she developed a relationship and subsequently fell in love with a battle Reploid named Kraft.

During Zero's triumphant battles against Weil's new Einjinhar group, she briefly encounters Kraft whom she chastises for his actions. She tells him she'd rather die than live under Weil's rule, which gives him the idea of destroying Neo Arcadia. After Weil and Craft are defeated, Neige makes it her new goal to ensure the stability of peace between Repolids and humans.

Neige is the French word for "snow".

[edit] Rafale

Function as the leader for the caravan. Trusted by everyone. Rafale is the French word for "strong gust".

[edit] Tempete

Human who gards the baggages. Only trust X. Tempête is the French word for "tempest".

[edit] Tornado

He is trying to bring all of the humans to Area Zero. Called Tornade in the Japanese version, the French word for Tornado.

[edit] Typhon

A little boy that has joined the caravan. Friendly to Zero. Typhon is the French word for "Typhoon", only difference being the spelling (and the pronunciation, Tee-fonn).

[edit] Neo Arcadia

Main article: Neo Arcadia

Neo Arcadia is a city built by humans and Reploids together in the wastelands of post-war Earth. Humans live at the expense of the Reploids that maintain their utopia. Despite this, Reploids rule Neo Arcadia and protect human society and the majority of the Neo Arcadian characters that appear in the game are Reploids.

During the course of the Mega Man Zero Series, the Ruler of Neo Arcadia changes four times: from Original X to Copy X, from Copy X to Harpuia, from Harpuia to Copy X Mk II, from Copy X Mk II to Dr. Weil.

[edit] Copy X's regime

Copy X's regime differs from Original X's in that his regime persecutes Reploids indiscriminately.

[edit] Copy X

CV: Yuka Imai
For more details on this topic, see Copy X.

The ruler of Neo Arcadia, Copy X is a clone of the original Mega Man X. Like the original X, Copy X is dedicated to protecting humanity. However, lacking the experience of the original, Copy X holds to the naive belief that the only way to protect humanity is to brutally suppress Reploids, and as a result Copy X brands all non-Neo Arcadian Reploids to be Mavericks, and has them systematically exterminated through his army of Pantheons and Shitennou/Guardians enforcers. He was killed in the first game by Zero, but was resurrected in Mega Man Zero 3 by Dr. Weil. He was manipulated and eventually betrayed by Weil, who killed him.

Although he is considered a villain he should not be considered evil, after all his goal is the protection of humans, as such Copy X should be more correctly classified as misguided.

In the Rockman Zero Manga, Copy X isn't actually a character although he is featured, in the manga he is the result of Harpuia, Phantom, Fefnir, and Leviathian fusing together.

[edit] The Big Four / The Four Guardians

The four Big Four (Shitenno) / Guardians ("heavenly kings") are a series of reploids created from X's DNA, whom served as Guardians to both Original X and Copy X. They each control an element and carry a weapon analogous to one of Zero's: Harpuia's twin blades mimic the Z-Saber, Leviathan's spear is analogous to the Triple Rod, Fefnir's twin cannons Sodom and Gomorrah are equivalent to the Buster Shot, and Phantom's fuuma shuriken is like the Shield Boomerang. The Shitennou / Guardians are fierce adversaries in the first two games, but in the third game they help Zero (though they are still opposed to him) against Omega.

All four guardians appear in a way in Mega Man ZX in the form of biometals, (Model H for Harpuia, Model F for Fefnir, Model L for Leviathan, and Model P for Phantom) however it isn't known if these are actually the guardians or not, as Model H speaks as if he actually is Harpuia yet supposdly they all died at the end of Z3.

[edit] Fafnir / Fefnir
CV: Kazuya Nakai
For more details on this topic, see Fighting Fefnir.

Bloodthirsty and eager to fight, Fefnir controls rock and fire while attacking with his two huge cannons, Sodom and Gomorrah. He has a special brand of antagonism for Zero, though in recent times this seems to be changing to respected rivalry. Fefnir's name is only one letter away from the dragon Fafnir, however it is noted that his Japanese name is Fafnir.

As all the guardian's are based on a specific aspect of X (due to being made with X's DNA) Fefnir is based on X's buster style of combat but in a more power focused style.

From bits of information in the Japanese version of Mega Man Zero it is seen that Fefnir had a job of cleaning the land after the Eurasia incident.

[edit] Harpuia
CV: Megumi Ogata
For more details on this topic, see Sage Harpuia.

Harpuia is the unofficial leader of the Shitennou/Guardians (after the events of MMZ1) and controls wind/electricity. Harpuia is honorable and dedicated to his cause: protecting humans in Neo Arcadia from Maverick attacks. He only fights Ciel and the Resistance because they are against Neo Arcadia, not because he actively hates them. In fact, he is responsible for bringing Zero safely back to the Resistance Base in the second game, and plays a crucial role in the third against Omega. His name is Harpy in Greek (on plural is Harpuiai), the name Harpuia means "Wind Storm", Harpies were mainly winged death-spirits, in the Greek mythology Hapies were winged bird-women, but the name value don't define to be a female name.

As all the guardians are based on an aspect of X (due to having his DNA) Harpuia is based on X's mobility.

From bits of information in the Japanese version of Mega Man Zero Harpuia had a job creating a biosphere before he was a guardian.

[edit] Leviathan
CV: Yuka Imai
For more details on this topic, see Fairy Leviathan.

The only female among the Shitennou/Guardians, Leviathan controls water and ice and prefers to fight underwater. She is mischievous and likes to tease Zero; some have speculated that she has a kind of love/hate attraction to or obsession with him. Her name is obviously a reference to the Biblical Leviathan, and in katakana is rendered "re-vi-a-ta-n" (the "v" series is formed by adding and a subscript vowel to the katakana "u").

As all the guardian's are based on X's DNA (due to having X's DNA) Leviathan was based on X's underwater combat abilities.

Based on bits of information in the Japanese version of Mega Man Zero it is seen that Leviathan had a job as a water purifier before becoming a guardian.

[edit] Phantom
CV: Tetsu Inada
For more details on this topic, see Phantom (Mega Man Zero).

The mysterious ninja-like guardian, Phantom has no Zero-series element, and seems to correspond to the X-series elements of dark and metal. He is the least-developed character of the Shitennou/Guardians, probably because he died in the first game. However, he can be found as a hidden boss in the third game. One thing we know best about him though, is that he's very devoted to his master, X. (Going so far as to self destructing to protect Copy X from Zero.)

Since all the guardians are based off of X (due to being made with X's DNA) Phantom is based off of X's stealth abilities.

From bits of information in the Japanese version of Mega Man Zero Phantom was the loyal bodyguard of X in Neo Arcadia while the others took care of repairing the planet.

[edit] Mutos Reploids

For more details on this topic, see Mega Man Zero Boss characters.

The "Mutos Repliroids," as the name is derived from the word "mutation," are Reploids (generally bosses) that appear like a cross between a humanoid and an animal. They are often modeled after the image of mythological beings. While they are meant to defend humanity, this was no longer the case when Dr. Weil took charge of Neo Arcadia.

[edit] Dr. Weil's Regime

The Regime of Dr. Weil differs to that of Copy X only in one regard: humans are equally persecuted as Reploids.

[edit] Créer & Prier / Crea and Prea (Baby Elves)

Crea and Prea
Crea and Prea

These Cyber Elves consider the Dark Elf their mother, and are constantly trying to catch up to her. Weil deludes them into thinking he is on their side, and the two fight Zero twice during the third game though they also seem to have a personal conflict with Zero for stopping their mother. Crea seems to control ice, while Prea uses fire, but they have no elemental weaknesses. Their Japanese names are Créer and Prier, French words for "create" and "pray" respectively. They were named by Alouette as seen in Mega Man Zero 3.

[edit] Dark Elf (Mother Elf)

For more details on this topic, see Dark Elf (Mega Man Zero).

The mother of all Cyber Elves, used to end the Maverick Wars. The Dark Elf has the power to control the minds of all Reploids. In the Maverick Wars, this power was used to finally eliminate the Maverick virus, but Weil twisted the Elf's power in an attempt to conquer the world. Dr. Vile/Weil "cursed" her, and she was put under a seal by X himself, using his own body. Elpizo undid the seal and released her, and now Neo Arcadia is after her. The Dark Elf is not truly evil, and her true form is the Mother Elf, seen briefly after Dark Elpizo's defeat and at the end of the third game.

[edit] Einherjar Eight Warriors

For more details on this topic, see Mega Man Zero Boss characters.

Eight Reploids that fight for Dr. Weil. One, Tech Kraken, used to belong to Phantom's Zan'ei Army, and seems to be more motivated to avenge Phantom than to follow Weil. The rest are fiercely loyal to Dr. Weil. All of them are responsible for Operation Ragnarok, and with Zero standing between Area Zero and the Operation, they are determined to retire him.

[edit] Vile Numbers / Weil's Numbers

For more details on this topic, see Mega Man Zero Boss characters.

Originally the Hachishinkan, or Eight Gentle Judges, they became known as Weil's Numbers (Vile Numbers) after his upgrades to them. All of them are responsible for the duties in Neo Arcadia Central Council.

[edit] Kraft / Craft

CV: Kenta Miyake
For more details on this topic, see Kraft (Mega Man Zero).

A Reploid soldier that fought for the former Neo Arcadia, and now the leader of the Einherjar Eight Warriors. He once saved the reporter, Neige, whom Craft fell in love with, when she was attacked by a Maverick. Craft willingly joined Dr. Weil for his own reasons; In order to ensure Neige's survival. He believes that humans should not rebel against Dr. Weil. He wants Neige to live, even if that means accepting Weil's tyrannical rule.

Over the course of the Fourth Zero game, Craft was touched by the words of Neige. His actions became more drastic. Opposing Weil, Craft lost all respect for those that would accept the tyrannical ruler without question. Due to the severity of his actions against the humans living in the former Neo Arcadia, Craft was forced to do battle with Zero. Craft was beaten and presumably deactivated onboard the satellite cannon, Ragnarok, which was later destroyed, with Craft most likely still on it.

[edit] Omega

CV: Junichi Suwabe
For more details on this topic, see Omega (Mega Man Zero).

A monstrous Reploid created by Dr. Weil sometime before the start of the Elf Wars. Despite being powerful, he was defeated by both X and Zero during the Elf Wars and exiled into space.

[edit] Dr. Vile / Dr. Weil

CV: Chikao Ohtsuka
For more details on this topic, see Doctor Weil (Mega Man Zero).

Dr. Weil was a Neo Arcadian that placed a curse on the Mother Elf and used her and Baby Elves to control Reploids to his will. He also built the Reploid, Omega. He was eventually defeated and was banished from Neo Arcadia, but not before being put in a cybernetic armour that prevented him from dying and having his memories stored in the form of computer data so he could never forget.

[edit] Neo Arcadian Foot Soldiers

[edit] Bio-Devil/Rainbow Devil

For more details on this topic, see Bio-Devil.

The Rainbow devil is the latest incarnation in the Zero series, proceeding the Shadow devils in the X series and the Yellow/Green Devils of the classic Megamanseries.

[edit] Golem

For more details on this topic, see Golem (Mega Man Zero).

A standard, giant enforcer-type Mechaniloid of Neo Arcadia's forces. Untyped versions appear in the first game, and elemental ones (Type E[lectric], F[ire], and I[ce]) in the second. The elemental ones are weak against the usual types, and have unique attacks: Type E has lasers, type F has flamethrowers, and type I has cannons that shoot giant icicles and snowballs.

[edit] Pantheons

For more details on this topic, see Pantheon (Mega Man Zero).

The standard soldier/grunt enemy; they are weak, mass-produced replicas of X's original design. They look just like X, with giant red cyclops' eyes instead of faces. There are several types:

  • Hunters - These are the most common type. They carry around a cannon that shoots three buster shots in a row.
  • Guardians - These enforcers are made of sterner stuff than the cannon-carrying type and take more than one hit to kill. They wield an electric baton, which has a short-range but is a powerful attack.
  • Fliers - This type wears a jetpack and shoots single shots at you in the air. They can be hard to hit and boast a high defense.
  • Aces - This type is similar in build and offense to Fliers, but has stronger armor and a violet color. Only two appear in the game, as the first set of bosses in the Neo Arcadia Shrine.
  • Alarmers - A variant of the Guardians, Alarmers are only in one mission. They are green and have a brightly-glowing eye. If they spot you, other Pantheon troops are summoned.
  • Crawlers - Oufitted with an immense claw, these are green and crawl slowly on the ground. They will jump at nearby enemies.
  • Bashers - These have one giant fist, which they dash at the enemy with, in an attempt to send them flying.
  • Fists - Similar to Bashers but they have both giant fists. Possibly upgraded versions of the Bashers.
  • Grenadiers - They only appear in one mission. Instead of having a baton- or buster-arm like the Hunters and Guardians, their arms are unspecialized. Therefore, they attack by throwing incindeary bombs out of windows at Zero.
  • Aquas - Usually found underwater, they are equipped with harpoons to attack invaders.
  • Bases - They only appear in one mission. These massive Pantheon's look very similar to their master, Glacier le Cactank, and swing giant maces while riding on snow-sledges.
  • Corpses - These are deceased and decayed remnants from typical Pantheon troops. They can be either revived by Anubis Necromancess III/V or controlled by Scrap Elves. Strangely enough, though they are corpses, they are harder to kill (taking 3 fully charged Z-saber slashes before imploding). Although Pantheon's do not actually have mouths Corpses will appear to bite Zero should he get to close.

[edit] Variants

Weil's soldiers. In Mega Man Zero 4, these replace the Pantheons completely. Generally, they have the same shiny black surface face that Omega has and are generally purple in colour. There are several types:

  • V.Fire - These purple humanoid robots fire a bullet that leaves a flame upon contact with a surface.
  • V.Missile - These robots fire a missile from their shoulders, which splits up into four smaller missiles.
  • V.Claw - These pink robots have huge metallic claws with which they can slash things apart with.
  • V.Fencer - These pink robots can only been found hanging from rails and are equipped with soldering tools.
