[edit] Jaller

Jaller (rebuilt), riding a Gukko bird

Jaller was the Captain of the Ta-Koro Guard and the Herald of the Seventh Toa (a title he was actually given by Takua, who was unwilling to accept the fact that he was the true Herald). He is Takua's best friend and former kolhii partner. After the Bohrok war, Hahli and Jaller started a romantic relationship. He used to be called "Jala", but was renamed for his deeds in defeating the Bohrok swarms. In the search for the Toa of Light, Jaller was killed by Turahk, but was later brought to life again by Takutanuva. After Takua became Toa Takanuva, Jaller inherited his Ussal crab, Pewku. Recently, Jaller became the Toa Inika of Fire. Jaller had a red Noble-style Komau mask on Metru Nui, but it broke and was replaced with Toa Lhikan's golden Noble Hau, which transformed into a yellow Great Hau-shaped mask. For more information on Jaller after he became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Kapura

Kapura
Kapura

Kapura serves as Turaga Vakama's messenger. Despite his apparent sluggish movements, Kapura is capable of covering great distances in short periods of time (or as he puts it, "covering great distances by moving very slowly" or simply "being where he isn't."). On Mata Nui, he often went into the forest to practice this at the urging of Turaga Vakama. He was a member of the Chronicler's Company, responsible for defending the Kini-Nui Temple while the Toa Mata faced Makuta. He wore a Great-style Pakari mask on Metru Nui and a Noble-styled Ruru on Mata Nui, although on the Mata Nui Online Game he is also seen with a Great Pakari. When he lived on Metru Nui, he worked as a factory scavenger, some one who searched for usable objects in the wreckage of factories that the Morbuzakh had demolished.

[edit] Nuhrii

Nuhrii (original)
Nuhrii (original)

Vakama's former mentor, mask-maker Nuhrii, was jealous of his former student because Vakama has made finer masks, and was even asked to fill special orders for Turaga Dume. Nuhrii most often carried a level 3 remove poison Kanoka Disk, due to the amount of poisonous reptiles in Ta-Metru. He wanted access to the Ta-Metru Great Disk to forge it into the ultimate mask of power. He was believed by Makuta to be the destined Toa Metru of Fire. On Metru Nui, Nuhrii was completely red and wore a Noble-style Ruru mask; he was seen on Mata Nui with a red body, black hands and feet, and a black Great-style Kaukau mask. In the Mata Nui Online Game 2, his name was spelled "Nuri".

[edit] Vakama

Vakama recieves his Toa Stone from Toa Lhikan.

Before becoming a Toa Metru, Vakama was Metru Nui's best maskmaker; so good that "Turaga Dume" (actually Makuta in disguise) personally asked him to make a Vahi Mask of Time (though he was not able to accomplish this before becoming a Toa). Nuhrii was the one who taught Vakama all about maskmaking. Vakama's mask as a Matoran was red, Great-style Huna. His color scheme was red and orange, as seen in BIONICLE 2: Legends of Metru Nui. For more information on Vakama after he became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Other Ta-Matoran

Turaga Vakama told tales of a great lava surfer named "Lhii", but in truth Lhii never existed. The stories were loosely based on the exploits of Toa Lhikan, as a way of honoring the fallen hero.

Two unnamed Matoran searched for the Great Refuge of Artakha during the Rahkshi attacks. One was colored black and grey and wore a Noble Komau mask (his coloring would indicate him being an Onu-Matoran, but his dialogue reveals otherwise). The other was variously colored brownish-red, yellow, and tan (making him look somewhat like a Po-Matoran); and he wore a Noble Rau. The two eventually gave up their search, deciding to face their problems rather than hiding from them.

Some other Ta-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Aft, Agni, Aodhan, Brander, Kalama, Keahi, Maglya, Tiribomba, and Vohon. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official.

[edit] Ga-Matoran

[edit] Hahli

Hahli
Hahli
Hahli (rebuilt)
Hahli (rebuilt)

While Hahli was a humble flax-maker by trade, she was surprisingly elected to the Ga-Matoran kolhii team by Turaga Nokama. In her training for the tournament, she ended up collecting a set of Charms, which soon unlocked another set of Crystals. Though the purpose of the Crystals is unclear, Hahli's use of them earned her the right to replace Takua as Chronicler (as the latter had become Toa Takanuva). She has since dutifully fulfilled her role, recording the tales the Turaga told of the fall of Metru Nui. After the Bohrok war, she gave Jaller a flower, starting their romantic relationship. At Kolhii, Macku was her kolhii partner. She later became the Toa Inika of Water. For more information on Hahli after she became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Kotu

Kotu
Kotu

Kotu is a Ga-Matoran Rahi tender, and one of Turaga Nokama's advisors. She is one of Ga-Koro's biggest practical jokers, better than even some Le-Matoran (as Nokama sometimes pointed out to Turaga Matau). She was expected to be on the Ga-Koro kolhii team, but Turaga Nokama chose Hahli instead.

[edit] Macku

Macku
Macku
Macku (rebuilt)
Macku (rebuilt)

Macku is a good kolhii player, and Hewkii's close friend and biggest fan. Macku loves boating; on Mata Nui she patrolled the lake daily, and on Metru Nui she set up a boat race and tours with her teachers' permission. She originally went by "Maku" until her name was changed due to her deeds against the Bohrok swarms. She also played on the Ga-Koro kolhii team and a member of the Chronicler's Company. It must be noted that she gave Hewkii swimming lessons on Mata Nui (much to his chagrin).

[edit] Nokama

Nokama was a teacher on Metru Nui; specifically, she taught translation of ancient texts. Vhisola and Hahli were two of her students. Toa Lhikan chose her to become the Toa Metru of Water. Her exact color scheme is unclear, but she wore a Rau-shaped mask (whether it was Noble- or Great-style is unknown). For more information on Nokama after she became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Vhisola

Vhisola (original)
Vhisola (original)

Nokama instilled a fair amount of admiration in one of her students, Vhisola, who became somewhat obsessed with her teacher. A Ga-Metru athlete and talented researcher, Vhisola wanted the Great Kanoka Disk to become more famous than Nokama. She favored a level 6 freeze Kanoka Disk, allowing her to freeze and cross canals found all over Ga-Metru. Makuta believed her destiny to be as the Toa Metru of Water.

[edit] Other Ga-Matoran

Some other Ga-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Amaya, Kai, Kailani, Marka, Nireta, Nixie, Okoth, Pelagia, and Shasa. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official.

[edit] Le-Matoran

[edit] Kongu

Kongu
Kongu

On Metru Nui, Kongu was one of the Matoran who ran the chutes, and the Dark Hunter Nidhiki forced him to reverse the flow of one chute to send three escaping Toa Metru right to him. Starting out on Mata Nui as a bird wrangler, Kongu eventually became captain of the Gukko Force of Le-Koro, where he rode a Gukko bird named Ka. At one point, several of the Le-Matoran, including Turaga Matau, were captured by a Nui-Rama swarm and taken to their nest, and Kongu, Tamaru, Takua, and a few others went to help. Also, when the entire village of Le-Koro, including Matau and Toa Lewa, were corrupted by Krana, Kongu and Tamaru escaped and teamed with several others to help free Le-Koro. He and Tamaru were on the Le-Koro kolhii team. Kongu later became the Toa Inika of Air. Kongu had a teal Great-styled Miru mask on Mata Nui but was shown in Legends of Metru Nui wearing a Noble-styled Ruru. For more information on Kongu after he became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Matau

Matau testing out a prototype vehicle.

Matau was a risk-taking transport driver on Metru Nui before becoming a Toa Metru. He often spent his spare time test-driving prototype vehicles on Le-Metru's Test Track, usually destroying them in the process (Toa Lhikan obviously knows of this fact when he said "Don't break it" when he handed Matau his Toa Stone). He and Orkahm didn't think much of one another, due to their wildly different personalities. His colors are unknown, but he wore a Mahiki-shaped mask (whether it was Noble- or Great-style is unknown). For more information on Matau after he became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Orkahm

Orkahm (original)
Orkahm (original)

Matau's chief rival in Metru Nui was a Matoran named Orkahm. Where Matau was cocky and reckless, Orkahm was responsible and careful. He was an Ussal rider like Matau was, but tended to possess more control. His favorite Ussal crab was Pewku (who later became a pet to Onepu, and then Takua, and Jaller still later). His favored Kanoka Disk was a level 4 regenerator, which he used to fix chutes. Makuta thought him to be the destined Toa Metru of Air. In the Mata Nui Online Game 2, his name was spelled "Orkan".

[edit] Tamaru

Tamaru
Tamaru

Tamaru is a Le-Matoran who wishes to fly a Gukko despite his fear of heights; on Metru Nui this fear kept him on the ground as a used vehicle salesman. When most of the village of Le-Koro was kidnapped by Nui-Rama, Tamaru was not, along with a few others. He was later part of the Chronicler's Company, helping Takua to fend off Rahi from the Kini-Nui Temple while the Toa Mata fought Makuta. He was also one of the two Le-Matoran who escaped being possessed by Krana, and also served on the Le-Koro kolhii team.

[edit] Other Le-Matoran

Some other Le-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Boreas, Kumo, Makani, Sanso, Shu, Taiki, Tuuli, and Vira. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official. Tuuli is finnish word of wind.

[edit] Po-Matoran

[edit] Ahkmou

Ahkmou (original)
Ahkmou (original)

In Metru Nui, Onewa's rival was a Po-Matoran named Ahkmou. Shifty and devious, Ahkmou is the Matoran Nidhiki chose to help gather the Great Kanoka Disks. Ahkmou is a carver, and thinks himself to be more important than anyone else. He carries a level 3 regeneration Kanoka Disk to repair mistakes made while carving. He always sides with whomever he thinks will get him ahead. Unlike the rest of the Matoran, Ahkmou knew of Metru Nui, as he was awakened by Makuta and not the Turaga, and Makuta filled him in. He would continue to aid Makuta by selling infected koli balls, causing Po-Matoran to get sick until Takua and Toa Pohatu discovered the plot. He has possibly reformed since then; by the time the Rahkshi attack he is the shopkeeper of Po-Koro. Even if he hasn't, he believes Makuta is dead and sees no reason to stay loyal. Makuta believed him to be the destined Toa Metru of Stone. He was originally completely brown, and wore a Noble-style Rau mask; by the time the Rahkshi attacked, his body had become tan and he switched masks for a black Rau.

[edit] Hafu

Hafu
Hafu
Hafu (rebuilt)

It is rumored that Hafu has incredible skill with disks, because they return if thrown correctly. Hafu is Hewkii's kolhii partner. He is also an incredibly talented - and boastful - carver, and is responsible for the statues on the Path of Prophecies. However, he once sacrificed all of his statues to prevent Bohrok from invading and destroying Po-Koro. Hafu has a black Noble-style Ruru mask; though on Metru Nui he is seen with a brown Noble-style Rau. He was a part of the Chronicler's Company. In MNOG he was pictured with a Great Paraki.

[edit] Hewkii

Hewkii
Hewkii
Hewkii (rebuilt)
Hewkii (rebuilt)

Hewkii is a champion at the sport of kolhii, and served on the Po-Koro kohlii team. In Metru Nui, he was one of the city's best Kanoka Disk makers. He used to be called "Huki" until he was renamed by the Turaga for his deeds against the Bohrok. He shares a close friendship with Macku of Ga-Koro. He later became the Toa Inika of Stone. For more information on Hewkii after he became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Kodan

Kodan was the Metru Nui Chronicler, and the Matoran who is credited with inventing the sport of Akilini. He began his job as Chronicler when Lhikan and ten other Toa arrived to fight the Kanohi Dragon, and continued for centuries until "Turaga Dume" (Makuta in disguise) sent him with two Toa on a mission from which they never returned. The ball that can be made from Pohatu Nuva's Climbing Claws is called by Turaga Onewa a "Kodan Ball" because of its resemblance to the balls used in the earliest forms of Akilini. Kodan's colors and mask are unknown.

[edit] Onewa

Onewa was a carver, and a rival to Ahkmou. He was chosen by Toa Lhikan to be a Toa Metru. His exact color scheme is unknown, but he wore a Komau-shaped mask (whether it was Noble- or Great-style is unknown). For more information on Onewa after he became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Other Po-Matoran

Some other Po-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Ally, Bour, Epena, Gadjati, Golyo, Kamen, Kivi, Pekka, and Piatra. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official. Kivi is finnish and means stone. Pekka is a finnish name.

[edit] Onu-Matoran

[edit] Mavrah

Mavrah had always been obsessed with uncovering the secrets of Rahi, and would never let little things like rules or personal safety stand in his way. In studying dormant Bohrok, he came up with the theory that perhaps they had evolved from being biomechanical to being mechanic shells dependent on their Krana. When the Kanohi Dragon attacked Metru Nui, Mavrah thought nothing of the danger but only of the rare specimen he could study. Eventually, Mavrah was teamed with Whenua and Onepu to study sea Rahi discovered in the Archives. After it became obvious the Rahi were too dangerous to be held in the Archives, Turaga Dume ordered the Rahi gone. Mavrah, not wanting to lose his pet project, escaped with the Rahi from Metru Nui. When the Toa Metru encountered him again shortly after the Great Cataclysm, he had become paranoid that Dume wanted him dragged back to the city. The Toa ended up sparking a feeding frenzy in their attempts to escape, and Mavrah disappeared when a tidal wave swept him away. Mavrah is said to have worn a purple Great style Pakari mask like Onepu, though his other colors are unknown.

[edit] Nuparu

Nuparu piloting a Boxor
Nuparu piloting a Boxor

Nuparu was an Onu-Matoran engineer who has invented many machines for Matorans' security. On Metru Nui he designed the Kralhi and Vahki enforcer robots, though the Kralhi was a spectacular failure (Toa Nuju once taunted Kralhi by calling them "Nuparu's folly"). On Mata Nui when the Bohrok flooded Onu-Koro, Nuparu discovered that they were non-living, and with Onepu's and Taipu's help he modified a Gahlok shell into a Boxor combat vehicle. Boxors were used successfully in the liberations of Onu-Koro and Le-Koro, but were defeated by Pahrak in Ga-Koro as they sink in water. After the Bohrok invasion he salvaged some Exo-Toa scrap to study, but hardly got the chance before he became the Toa Inika of Earth. For more information on Nuparu after he became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Onepu

Onepu
Onepu

Onepu is Captain of the Onu-Wahi Ussalry. He worked as an archivist on Metru Nui, and participated in the project with the giant Rahi alongside Whenua and Mavrah. He and Taipu are on the Onu-Koro kolhii team. He used to be the owner of an Ussal Crab named Pewku, who was later Takua's faithful pet.

[edit] Taipu

Taipu
Taipu

Taipu is a miner, and among the strongest Onu-Matoran. Due to his desire to see Le-Wahi, he was captured by the Nui-Rama (and the only one outside of the Le-Matoran to have been kidnapped). He was part of the Chronicler's Company who helped to defend Kini-Nui Temple when the Toa Mata fought Makuta, and also was on the Onu-Koro kolhii team. In the Mata Nui Online Game, His mask switched with Hafu's, so he had the noble mask of Night Vision and Hafu had the Great Mask of Strength.

[edit] Tehutti

Tehutti (original)
Tehutti (original)

One of Whenua's rivals in Metru Nui was Tehutti, an archivist who always wanted a new exhibit to mark his name on. Tehutti's hard head often caused him to forget the most important purposes. He generally used a level 5 teleportation Kanoka Disk to move around the complex Archives. Tehutti had no definite purpose for the Great Kanoka Disk that he found, except maybe to put it on exhibit and achieve recognition for his work. He knew of the Matoran Nui and helped convince the other five Matoran who found Great Disks to join with him, and Makuta was tricked into thinking that he was the correct choice for the Toa Metru of Earth. On Metru Nui, Tehutti wore a Noble style Huna mask; and on Mata Nui he had a Great style Kakama mask instead. In the Mata Nui Online Game 2, his name was spelled "Tehuti".

[edit] Whenua

Before becoming a Toa Metru, Whenua was an archivist on Metru Nui. He was one of the three Matoran to work on the sea Rahi project, along with Mavrah and Onepu. His colors are unclear, but he wore a Ruru-shaped mask (whether it was Noble- or Great-style is unknown). For more information on Whenua after he became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Other Onu-Matoran

Some other Onu-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Aiyetoro, Akamu, Azibo, Damek, Dosne, Kaj, Mamoru, and Zemya. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official.

[edit] Ko-Matoran

[edit] Ehrye

Ehrye (original)
Ehrye (original)

Nuju was often hard on Ehrye, an overeager Matoran who hoped to be a scholar and gain a place in Metru Nui's Knowledge Towers by presenting the Head Scholar with a Great Kanoka Disk. Ehrye was seen by Nuju as being too enthusiastic and excitable to be a successful scholar. Ehrye most often carried a level 3 regeneration Kanoka Disk to fix cracks in the towers. Makuta believed him to be the true destined Toa Metru of Ice.

[edit] Ihu

Ihu was a Ko-Metru seer who was Nuju's mentor. He died in a chute accident. Mt. Ihu on Mata Nui was named after him, as a reminder of his wisdom to Nuju. His mask and colors are unknown.

[edit] Kopeke

Kopeke
Kopeke
Kopeke (rebuilt)
Kopeke (rebuilt)

Kopeke is a carver, and is more aloof than most Ko-Matoran due to shyness. He is a champion of the Huai Snowball Sling, and also a member of the Ko-Koro kolhii team. Kopeke was also a member of the Chronicler's Company, which helped the Toa Mata by fending off dangerous Rahi. He will soon succeed Hahli as Chronicler and will make his first appearance in his new position in Bionicle Legends #8.[1] When his light blue Noble style Komau mask was damaged in kolhii practice, he replaced it with a dark grey Noble style Matatu in honor of Turaga Nuju; and when he was rebuilt his hands and feet also became dark grey.

[edit] Matoro

Matoro
Matoro
Matoro (rebuilt)
Matoro (rebuilt)

Matoro was a Ko-Matoran who translated for Turaga Nuju; and learned of Metru Nui through his translation work. He was entrusted by the Turaga to keep what he hears in gatherings a secret. In his spare time, he hunts Muaka. He ran a pet shop in Metru Nui and enjoyed a good friendship with Onu-Matoran. He was on the Ko-Koro kolhii team. He later became the Toa Inika of Ice. For more information on Matoro after he became a Toa, see Toa Inika.

[edit] Nuju

Before becoming a Toa Metru, Nuju was an accomplished seer in Metru Nui. Ihu was a mentor to him. Nuju felt that Ehrye was too energetic to make a good scholar. Nuju appeared to be completely white, and wore a Matatu-shaped mask with a telescoping eyepiece (whether it was Noble- or Great-style is unknown). For more information on Nuju after he became a Toa, see Toa Metru/Toa Hordika.

[edit] Other Ko-Matoran

Some other Ko-Matoran named in the Mata Nui Online Game 2 are Arktinen, Jaa, Jaatikko, Kantai, Kokkan, Kylma, Lumi, Pakastaa, Talvi, and Toudu. However, these names have not been approved by LEGO's legal department and therefore may not be official. Many of these names are Finnish. "Arktinen" means arctic, "Jaa" means ice, "Jaatikko" means ice field, "Kylma" means cold, "Lumi" means snow, "Pakastaa" is freeze and "Talvi" means winter.

[edit] Takua

Takua
Takua
Takua (rebuilt), riding Pewku
Takua (rebuilt), riding Pewku

Although long thought to be a Ta-Matoran, Takua never really fit in; in truth he was a Matoran with the element of light. He came to Metru Nui from somewhere else; placed there by the Order of Mata Nui. He was disguised as a Ta-Matoran to hide him from the Brotherhood of Makuta, who feared what light could do to shadow.[2] On Metru Nui, Takua ran a small side business trading souvenirs from different Metru - but he usually wandered off during his normal job to do so, making the Vahki learn to keep an eye on him.[3] While on Metru Nui, Takua did not remember his original homeland and was not aware that he had been anything other than a Ta-Matoran.[4]

Takua discovers the Mask of Light in an underground cavern in Ta-Koro.
Takua discovers the Mask of Light in an underground cavern in Ta-Koro.

A thousand years later, after the Matoran took refuge on Mata Nui, Takua gathered the six Toa Stones created by the Toa Metru, and summoned the Toa Mata. Unfortunately the event caused Takua amnesia. Once the Toa had arrived, the Turaga took advantage of Takua's tendency to wander and made him the Chronicler, observing and writing down the Toa's adventures. Shortly afterwards, he began a quest to create a Chronicler's Company to help the Toa by guarding the Kini-Nui temple while they battled Makuta. During this quest, he befriended an Ussal crab named Pewku, who became his faithful pet. After this, he witnessed the defeat of Makuta and then the awakening of the deadly Bohrok Swarms. Once the Bohrok and Bohrok-Kal were defeated, he was assigned to play for Ta-Koro in an islandwide kolhii tournament.

Just before the kolhii tournament, he found the Avohkii Mask of Light. After the match, when the Turaga learned of the mask, they sent him and his best friend Jaller on a journey through Mata Nui in search of "the Seventh Toa" that it belonged to. It was on this quest that Takua discovered that his destiny was to become Takanuva, the Toa of Light. For information on Takua after he became a Toa, see Takanuva.

While living on Metru Nui, Takua originally had a red body, yellow feet, and a light blue Pakari mask. These are not common colors for light Matoran; Takua's armor was made these colors in order to blend in with Metru Nui's Ta-Matoran (though the mask was imperfect, as it never fit Takua properly and blue is not a Ta-Matoran color).[5] When the Matoran later rebuilt themselves on Mata Nui, his hands and feet also became light blue.

Matoran from Voya Nui. Left to right: Garan, Piruk, Balta, Kazi, Velika and Dalu

[edit] Mainland

[edit] Balta

Balta is a Ta-Matoran inventor who can easily turn discarded equipment into useful devices and weapons. He is Garan's second-in-command and a close friend to Dalu. He carries twin repellers that can block any attack when crossed. He is best friends with Garan.

[edit] Dalu

Dalu is a Ga-Matoran warrior and the group's resident muscle; always ready to jump into a fight. Her twin chargers can briefly increase one of an ally's attributes (such as speed, strength, senses, etc.), though this charging tires Dalu out; she can also use her chargers offensively, heightening an enemy's senses until they become unbearable - she even once drove Toa Gali to madness by enhancing her sight until she could see all of existence at the molecular level.

[edit] Piruk

The Le-Matoran, Piruk, acts as the group's spy, sneaking in and out of enemy bases (though rather reluctantly, as he is on the timid side). He carries two sets of shredder claws, which he often sharpens against each other out of nervous habit, but can dig quickly out of many situations.

[edit] Velika

Velika is, like most Po-Matoran, a carver; and a very good one at that, crafting most of the resistance's equipment with Balta including Zamor Launchers for the Toa Inika. He is rather wise, but he tends to speak in riddles, much to Kazi's annoyance. He uses twin power carvers to quickly craft new equipment.

[edit] Garan

Garan is an Onu-Matoran, and is the unofficial leader of the resistance. He is usually the first to understand the meaning of Velika's riddles. His pulse bolt generators fire balls of energy that become more powerful the further they travel.

[edit] Kazi

Kazi is a Ko-Matoran who tends to be very sarcastic, and is the resistance member that has the least patience with Velika's cryptic sayings. He knew about Axonn's existence long before anyone else did, but kept it a secret at Axonn's request. His weapons are twin echo forks that can be slammed together to create a destructive sound wave.

[edit] Other Mainland Matoran

Dezalk is a Ta-Matoran who served as the Piraka's test subject for their Zamor Spheres. He gathered the Voya Nui Matoran together at Zaktan's command, where the Piraka proceeded to enslave the rest of the population (except for the resistance members, who were elsewhere).

[edit] Mahri Nui

[edit] Defilak

Defilak
Defilak

Defilak is a Le-Matoran inventor and scholar, and it was his turn to lead the Mahri Nui Matoran when the Mask of Life appeared. He invented and built a submarine modeled after a Takea shark in order to find out just what was preying on the Matoran, only for it to be destroyed and its crew taken captive by Pridak. After learning a bit of the Barraki, Defilak got away, and saved Mahri Nui from falling victim to a giant venom eel by smashing all its lightstones (making it less of a target). Defilak is equipped with two electro-blades. In some time before Mahri Nui, Defilak was a trader; in his contact with other lands he picked up the chutespeak slang of Metru Nui's Le-Matoran.[6]

[edit] Dekar

Dekar
Dekar

Dekar is a Po-Matoran "waterhunter" whose job is to bring in food and keep predators away; and he particularly enjoys the time to himself that his job affords. After Kyrehx passed the Mask of Life on to him, he found himself cursed to have all his opponents be immortal. Fearing the mask's power and refusing to let someone else become a victim of the curse, he took the mask and tried to destroy it. After realizing (the hard way) that the mask would use its powers to protect itself, Dekar touched it and was given the knowledge of the entire history of the Mask of Life. Unfortunately, the Barraki soon came and forcibly took the mask from him. Dekar, like Defilak, has two electro-blades.

[edit] Gar

Gar is an Onu-Matoran who is Defilak's best friend. He volunteered to helm Defilak's submarine but was captured by Pridak along with the rest of the crew. After Pridak left with Defilak, Gar offered to sacrifice himself to allow Idris to get to Mahri Nui and warn the Matoran there, even though he barely knew her. This was not needed, as both got to the airweed fields which were occupied by Carapar's Keras crab army. The recently escaped Defilak rescued both and helped the two return to the safety of Mahri Nui.

[edit] Idris

Idris is a Ga-Matoran who volunteered to helm Defilak's submarine and was captured by Pridak. After Pridak left with Defilak, Gar and Idris made a run for it, getting to the airweed fields just as their personal air bubbles were wearing out - unfortunately, those fields were occupied by Carapar's Keras crabs. But Defilak had also escaped Pridak, and helped the two return to the safety of Mahri Nui.

[edit] Kyrehx

Kyrehx is a Ga-Matoran sentry assigned to guard the Hydruka pens in case of attack. She was the first to find the Mask of Life, and her curse manifested as local vegetation growing up and attacking her. She quickly passed the Mask of Life off to the first Matoran she met - Dekar - but Takadox soon had her captured, and he hypnotized her into telling him all she had seen. He then had her sent back to Mahri Nui as a kind of trojan horse, though how exactly he plans to use her remains unseen.

[edit] Sarda

Sarda is a Ta-Matoran and the fourth crewmember of Defilak's submarine. He tends to be skeptical, questioning the stories of monsters that stalk the sea beyond Mahri Nui. After his capture by Pridak (one of the "monsters"), he was thrown to the Takea sharks; his fate is unknown.

[edit] Other Mahri Nui Matoran

Reysa was an Onu-Matoran Hydruka shepherd; he apparently fell victim to the Barraki shortly before the Mask of Life appeared.

An eccentric Le-Matoran scientist had invented the solidified air launchers based on the Hydrukas' defense mechanism. He intended the bubbles to be ridden as transport, but when he fatally shot himself right into a Tarakava the plans were quickly reworked into weapons.

An unnamed Matoran was also responsible for saving Toa Hahli from drowning when she pursued the Kanohi Ignika into the sea. He lived only long enough to warn the Toa Inika of a threat to Mahri Nui before dying from the change in water pressure (see decompression sickness). According to a web-exclusive comic, he was red (and therefore presumably a Ta-Matoran) with a Noble Kiril mask.
