A beautiful rose, a woman who, by desire of his father to have a son, was bred like so. She is educated like man in diverse arts like the fencing, reason why she gets to command the Imperial Guard of the queen Marie Antoinette. She has no reason to pretend to be a man because many people know that she is a woman. In spite of her upbringing as a man, Oscar falls in love with the lover of the queen, Hans Axel von Fersen, a Swedish count. But Fersen only has eyes for the queen. He treats Oscar like a true friend without knowing her true feelings. Towards the end when the revolution begins, Oscar realizes the love professed by André and that she loves him too, but shortly after the mutual declaration André dies by a stray bullet, and Oscar's heart is destroyed. Marie Antoinette and Oscar meet again, but this was their last encounter. Marie Antoinette says "Au revoir" ("goodbye") to Oscar. Both knew that this was an eternal farewell. Oscar is shot by a general and dies the day of the Taking of the Bastille. The bodies of Oscar and André are buried together.

The friend of Oscar and the grandson of her nanny. André and Oscar learned together the art of fencing and horsemanship together with Oscar when they were kids. André is secretly in love with Oscar, but he never tells her until both of them decide to help the insurgents when the French Revolution was beginning. Oscar realizes that she returns his feelings. After the mutual declaration, André dies from a stray bullet.

Princess of Austria. She married the prince Louis XVI to seal the alliance agreed between the king Louis XV and her mother, Queen Maria Theresa, when she was 14. After becoming the princess of France, she realizes that a woman called Madame du Barry was looking very insistently. King Louis XV's sisters tell her the truth and the origins of Madame du Barry. The princess, horrified by what she had heard, decides to never speak to her. Meanwhile, she had met a count during a masquerade party, Hans Axel von Fersen, who later become her lover.

Madame du Barry, always trying to plan something against Marie Antoinette and Oscar, finally fulfils her desire to be greeted by Marie Antoinette. Her luck quickly runs out after the death of the Louis XV, and she is condemned to die.

Marie Antoinette, became the Queen of France, at a very young age. After several conflicts with his husband, she starts feeling lonely. Fersen, who had left France after Oscar's advice (to avoid future problems with the princess) many years ago, arrives at France again and visit the Queen.

A lot of rumors start to surround the Palace of Versailles and Fersen leaves once again. Marie Antoinette, who felt in depression, befriended with the Duchess of Polignac. Polignac leads Marie Antoinette to her own fall and is the one of the main causes of the people's hatred of Marie Antoinette.

The King of France and father of the pirnce Louis XVI. He had a lover, Madame du Barry, who became an enemy of his daughter-in-law, Marie Antoinette.

Louis XV, died of smallpox in the Palace of Versailles After his death, Madame du Barry is condemned to die and his heir become the King of France. The people of all the cities celebrated the born of a new kingdom.

Madame du Barry is not noble of blood. She used to be a prostitute, and thanks to that it managed to enter the Palace of Versailles. She became the lover of King Louis XV. When Marie Antoinette became princess of France, the great hatred comes between them. These news arrive until Maria Theresa, queen of Austria and mother of Maria Antonieta, thus she sends her advisor, Comte de Mercy, to France. Mercy advises the princess to stop fighting with Du Barry, but Marie Antoinette does not obey the warnings until King Louis XV shows his displeasure with her attitude towards the comtess. Marie Antoinette finally speaks to Du Barry. Months later, King Louis XV gets smallpox. Before dying, the bishop confesses Louis XV, and orders to take away all thing that represents the sin, that is to say, Madame Du Barry. King Louis XV dies and Du Barry is taken to a convent, where she remains until 1793, the year in which she is guillotined.

Best friend of queen Marie Antoinette, and one of the greater causes of the French Revolution. She impelled Marie Antoinette to bet in clandestine casinos, without the permission of Marie Antoinette's husband, King Louis XVI. She manipulated the queen for her own benefit and made the queen believe that lies would fix her difficult situations. Following her advice, Marie Antoinette lied and announced that the heir of France was on way. In order to remedy the situation, Polignac blamed the death of the heir on Lady Oscar. The Duchess says that the queen had undergone a fort impact at the moment at which Oscar pulled out of a scabbard her sword. During the Revolution, she manages to flee with her family.

Daughter of Lady de Polignac. She is jeopardized by her mother's agreement to marry her to the Duke de Guise. Charlotte, not knowing what would happen to her, loses all reason, and she commits suicide, jumping from one of the towers of the Palace of Versailles. She dies without knowing that she had a sister called Rosalie, who is in fact Lady Oscar's protegée. She grew a white rose in a tower as a symbol of her friendship with Lady Oscar.

Cousin of Louis XVI who secretly tried to usurp the throne. Second in row to the throne of France. Mastermind in the plot to kidnap Marie Antoinette before she could marry prince Louis XVI, but after it failed thanks to Lady Oscar's intervention, he tried to kill the Prince and make it seem like an accident by switching the rifle Prince Louis XVI used for hunting with a tampered one that would explode once triggered. Later in the story, Duke de Orleans, because of his liberal ideas, lets anti-monarchists like the Black Knight (a masked French Robin Hood) and his followers secretly gather in his Palais Royale. He, masked, helped Jeanne Valois, the author of the affair of the diamond necklace, to escape from Salpêtrière's prison and got her to a far convent. Then, he covered the expenses of the publication of the Jeanne memories book, in which Marie Antoinette's visits to clandestine casinos with Lady de Polignac, the "complicity" between the Queen and Lady Oscar and other false and true subjects were written.

Adoptive daughter of a peasant named Nicole Lamoliere. Her true mother was Lady Julie de Polignac, initially addressed only as "Martine Gabrielle"; Nicole, her adoptive mother, told her the truth when she was agonizing, after being hit by a carriage.

Rosalie swore that she would kill the person on the carriage that ran over her mother. Rosalie, tried to kill Oscar's mother, Lady Jarjayes, because she though that such a person was on the carriage, but Oscar stops her. Oscar decides to help her, and she teachs Rosalie the art of fencing, manners, history, and others things.

Rosalie told Oscar that her true mother was a noble called Martine Gabrielle. At night, in a party, Rosalie recognizes Lady Polignac, and tries to kill her, but Oscar stops Rosalie and told her that killing Lady Polignac wouldn't bring her mother back, and if she killed her, she would receive capital punishment.

Later Oscar and André discover that the true mother of Rosalie, the noblewoman called Martine Gabrielle, was the same person that Rosalie wanted to kill. Martine Gabrielle had given birth to Rosalie when she was just fourteen years old, and gave her up to Nicole since she couldn't raise her; later, she changed her name to Julie de Polignac.

Rosalie wanted to end everything, and she decided to finally kill Lady de Polignac. She ambush Polignac's carriage, in front of Polignac's other daughter Charlotte. Rosalie aims to Lady Polignac with a pistol, but Oscar arrives and makes Rosalie react and come to her senses. Oscar also told Lady Polignac that she was in front of her daughter.

After Charlotte lost her mind and killed herself, Lady Polignac went to Jarjayes's Mansion and told Rosalie that if she didn't come with her, she would told the authorities that Oscar was the protector of the sister of Jeanne Valois, the mastermind of the whole "necklace affair". Rosalie decides to go with her mother, to not harm Oscar; soon, Rosalie realiased that her mother's true intentions were to marry her with the duke of Guise, Charlotte's ex-fiancé. She escapes return to the neighbour where she was raised; there, she married Oscar's friend Bernard Chatelet, and meets again with Oscar, in the Taking of the Bastille, being there for Oscar when she died.

After the Taking of the Bastille, the people burst into the palace of Versailles and take Marie Antoinette as a prisoner. Marie Antoinette and her family are taken to a prision, where Rosalie served the queen as a servant, telling her all she knew about Oscar. Marie Antoinette, before the day of her execution, gave Rosalie a paper rose, and told her to paint it with Oscar's favorite rose color.

The "Dauphin" or heir to the French throne. Rather mature for his age, he admired Oscar and wanted to be the King of France to make the country better. However, he dies at age 12.

Mother of Maria Antonieta, queen of Austria. She agreed an alliance with Luis XV to stop the war, which was sealed with the marriage of her daughter, princess Marie Antoinette and French prince, Louis XVI. She dies by the anguish that the news of Maria Antonieta cause to her, because Marie Antoinette, being queen, decides to cancel audiences and transfers to the Palace of Trianon.

An idealistic, passionate young man who greatly admired future Terror leader Maximilien Robespierre. He posed at first as "The Black Knight", an aggressive revolutionary and sort-of French "Robin Hood" who was sponsored by the Duke of Orléans. However, André Grandier takes up his role to try capturing him, and then loses an eye in a squirmish with the Royal Guard. Bernard later confronts Lady Oscar and is injured as well, since she was angered for what happened with André; she managed to knock sense into Bernard and convinced him to stop being the Black Knight.

Bernard spends the rest of the Revolution working as a reporter, keeping records of what happened in it. He also married Rosalie, Lady Oscar's protegée.
