This is a list of the characters from Happy Tree Friends show.

  • TV Count: The number of TV episodes the character has starred in.
  • Kill Count: The number of kills a character made
  • Death Count: The number of times the character has died.

[edit] Main characters

[edit] Cuddles

Cuddles with a fork and an electric socket.
  • Animal: Eastern Cottontail
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count: 4
  • Death Count: 29
  • V.A.: Kenn Navarro

A canary-yellow rabbit who wears pink bunny slippers. Cuddles is one of the primary characters in the series. Like Giggles, Toothy and Lumpy, he appears in many of the advertisements.

Cuddles was one of the first characters to be created in Happy Tree Friends. His voice is even performed by Kenn, the creator of the show along with Rhode.

Cuddles personality is somewhat mixed. On the one hand he can be dangerously mischievous. Also he can be self-centered. Both of these characteristics can lead to both his death and other characters deaths. On the other hand he is also friendly, making his personality more complex than the others. He was seen to have multiple houses, but his official one is known to be a Hollow Tree, as it is the only one to appear more than once ("In a Jam" and "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow")

He is particularly good friends with Flaky and Toothy. Cuddles and Giggles are also very close friends. Their relationship is most prominent in the Fall Out Boy music video: "The Carpal Tunnel of Love".

In the internet shorts, Cuddles died in every episode he appeared in. He is also the character who has, so far, been killed by Flippy the most, though, to be fair, Flippy generally kills everyone in episodes in which he is featured. Whilst he still dies a lot in the TV series, he has at least survived on one or two occasions ("Sea What I Found"). He tends to die some of the messier deaths such as being sliced to bits by helicopter blades, ceiling fans, exploding, and slithering through a treehole as a bloody mush.

Cuddles, is one of the characters to have an account on MySpace. It mentions that he is actually allergic to carrots, which is possibly evidenced by the 'Feed' section of his Smoochie. In addition, it mentions he collects powerful antique electric toothbrushes and his fur is highly protected from the sun.

[edit] Giggles

Giggles catching a fish.
Giggles catching a fish.
  • Animal: Eastern Chipmunk
  • Gender: Female
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 7
  • Death Count: 33
  • V.A.: Dana Belben for early episodes, Ellen Connell for TV series.

A pink chipmunk with a big red bow on her head. She has the personality of a young girl, as she enjoys frolicking through flowers, having tea parties with her friends. Her name comes from her habit of giggling now and then.

She is one of the primary characters of the series and appears along with Cuddles, Toothy and Lumpy in the advertisements. She may have also been one of the first characters to be created along with Cuddles.

Giggles is a very affectionate character and is often seen hugging and kissing several of the characters. She is particularly close to Cuddles as they have appeared in many episodes together (especially in "Remains to be Seen" when zombified Giggles and Cuddles did the famous Lady and the Tramp kiss and in the Fall Out Boy: "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" music video) although in the episode "Blind Date", it seems that she was in love with the Mole who took Lumpy to the date and not Cuddles.

She is also best friends with Petunia. Though her deaths aren't usually as gruesome as Petunia, she appears and dies more often.

Giggles used to have a Myspace account, where it mentioned how she is allergic to roses, which is evidence in the 'Flowers' section of her Valentine Smoochie. She is also allergic to jellyfish as seen in Happy Trails Pt 2,where she gets stung by a jellyfish and has a severe allergic reaction causing her leg to swell to the size of a car,in which she eventually dies from it.

Giggles is also very environmental in Every Litter bit Hurts going so far as to chain herself to a tree to prevent Lumpy from cutting it down.

[edit] Toothy

Toothy playing a game of hide and seek.
  • Animal: North American Beaver
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 1
  • Kill Count: 26
  • Death Count: 22
  • V.A.: Warren Graff

A light purple beaver with very large teeth. Although his character description on the official site says he has "big ol' buck-teeth" larger than the other characters (more like that of Sponge Bob Square Pants, although they're sometimes that of other characters), he occasionally had the normal buckteeth. This was mostly due to the laziness of the animators, but when Fatcat took over for the TV series, this problem was removed. He is a generally a very friendly character who likes to play around now and then, paticularly with the younger characters. He admires Splendid and even dresses up as him for Halloween. As with Cuddles, Lumpy and Giggles, he is another of the main characters since he's often seen with them on both Happy Tree Friends products and advertisements.

There are a couple of ways in which he is famous: he is the first character to be killed ever in Happy Tree Friends and he is also the character who suffered a very horrible death in the episode that won an award at the Annecy Film Festival in France, the infamous "Eye Candy". He also suffers some of the more grusome deaths in the show.

He can be used in wider range of situations, unlike most of the other characters whose personality defines how they might act in a given situation. He mostly acts before he thinks, for example running away and throwing a lit candle behind him - though he is by no means addle-brained.

When looking at the storyboard for "I Get A Trick Out Of You", on the "Third Strike" DVD it is Toothy who is drawn in place of Cuddles. It is stated by one of the creators that Toothy is often used as a 'place holder' character due to his ordinary 'generic tree friend' appearance, until they have decided upon a final character. His lack of a definite character also means that when he is used as a 'place holder' he won't influence the shaping of the episode in ways the creators don’t necessarily mean or want. Sometimes it is Toothy himself who plays the final role in an episode.

Also, while Toothy does have a starring pop-up, he never actually got a real starring role in the TV series.

[edit] Lumpy

Lumpy and a falling anvil.
Lumpy and a falling anvil.
  • Animal: Moose
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 15
  • Kill Count: 141
  • Death Count: 29
  • V.A.: Rhode Montijo, David Winn in the TV Series.

A light blue moose with apparently very low intelligence, bad teeth, distorted eyes and mismatched antlers. Known to be the big brother, or perhaps babysitter of many of the other characters. He usually means well but is a completely unapt and extremely unintelligent. Furthermore, he screams like a girl. Although Lumpy generally never killed anyone by design, he is portrayed as a villain for the first time in "Dunce Upon a Time". Lumpy is usually seen living in his trailer, except for the episodes "Aw, Shucks!" and "Junk In The Trunk" he has a different, bigger house.

He is one of the few grown-up characters in the show and the only character with a standard nose with two nostrils (the smaller Happy Tree Friends all have heart-shaped noses). Lumpy has probably appeared in the most episodes out of all the other Tree Friends, and most fans consider him the odd one out. There were some arguments about him being too close to Bullwinkle the Moose and "Montgomery Moose", the group's leader of The Get-Along Gang, so his right antler was drawn upside down. Lumpy has had many occupations in many episodes, including teacher, ticket clerk, bus driver, convenience store owner, police officer, and more. He is usually a fill-in character like Wooldoor Sockbat from Drawn Together. He is often shown in tremendously incongruous situations, such as lounging lazily, shirtless, in a hammock, while the rest of the Happy Tree Friends gang are playing in the snow. His low intelligence is often the cause of other characters' deaths, and sometimes his own, but nonetheless he survives most episodes he features in. He lives in a trashy trailer and drives a Lincoln Continental. His MySpace account mentions that his favorite dessert is cheesecake and that he likes to talk to lettuce. He's made an appearance in every TV series episode except "Easy For You To Sleigh",and "The Kitchen Sink". The creators have admitted that because they use him so often, while writing episodes they have said "Okay, we have to not put Lumpy in this episode.", because they think the show is slowly becoming "Lumpy and the Happy Tree Friends."

[edit] Petunia

Petunia working as a fry cook in a burger restaurant.
Petunia working as a fry cook in a burger restaurant.
  • Animal: Skunk
  • Gender: Female
  • TV Count: 1
  • Kill Count: 1 (herself)
  • Death Count: 26
  • V.A.: Dana Belben for early episodes, Ellen Connell for TV series

A blue skunk who always wears a pine scent car air freshener or deodorizer around her neck to cover up her skunk smell (even though it says on the site that she bathes many times a day). Many fans regarded her as slightly older than Giggles on the internet episodes. She likes to play with buggies and making tea parties.

Petunia is often seen in the series with Giggles. They appear to be best friends. In the internet series they were almost identical in personality. However, whilst Giggles has appeared more and died more in the series than Petunia, Petunia's deaths are a lot more gruesome than Giggles. Many people refer to her as one of the most unfortunate characters because of this.

The creators have given her an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. More specifically, she is a 'neat freak'. She bathes five times a day. And if things are either dirty, or out of their proper place, she starts to hyperventilate. She will do anything to clean it up again. In the T.V. episode "Wishy Washy", when it became too much to handle she went mad and killed herself with a potato peeler, trying to get clean. This was to separate her personality further from Giggles, but they are still best friends. It seems that Disco bear loves her more than Giggles.

[edit] Nutty

Nutty the candy-addicted, sugar-crazed squirrel.
Nutty the candy-addicted, sugar-crazed squirrel.
  • Animal: Squirrel
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count: 17
  • Death Count: 18
  • V.A.: Michael 'Lippy' Lippman

A green squirrel with an addiction for candy or anything that has sugar in it. He has a lollipop, candy cane and a candy apple stuck to his fur, which he even treats as his wardrobe, as evidenced in one of the TV episodes. Althought this often changes. One of his eyes resembles Googly eyes and the other bears a slight resemblance to Flippy's 'flipped-out' eyes.

As a result of his huge sugar intake he is often hyperactive and jittery, and he foams at the mouth when deprived of candy or any other sugar-related items. Nutty will do whatever it takes to get the sugar he wants. If he doesn't get what he wants he becomes very irate. Nutty will eat other types of food occasionally (like in "Class Act", when he eats Sniffles' arm), but it's a very rare case.

He is one of the few characters to have an account on the website 'MySpace' where it mentions he has fourteen dental cavities. This is probably not helped the fact that he brushes his teeth with a lollipop and sherbet, and uses cola as mouthwash.

In the Second Serving DVD, he has his own breakfast cereal called Sugar Frosted Nutty Honey, but there are hardly any cereal pieces in it - the picture only shows a large pile of sugar in the bowl. Nutty can be seen eating this cereal in one of the TV episodes.

Nutty is usually featured in episodes which revolve around candy, except for "Snip Snip Hooray" and "Eye Candy", where Toothy was used instead. It was rumored that when "Eye Candy" was made Nutty has been prominently featured in another episode, which was why that choice was made.

Nutty's eagerness of candy has often led to demise of both himself and the other characters. However, it is his hyperactive personality that has made him another of the show's most memorable characters.

[edit] Sniffles

Sniffles and an ant.
Sniffles and an ant.
  • Animal: Anteater
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 6 episodes
  • Kill Count: 8
  • Death Count: 32
  • V.A.: Liz Stuart

A nerd-like blue-gray anteater who is one of the more intelligent characters in the series. He usually likes doing school related work and reading school books, especially science and maths. To reinforce the 'nerd' image that Sniffles exudes, he is seen dressed up as a Star Trek character (probably Spock, the Vulcan ears being the giveaway) in "Remains to be Seen".

Sniffles' IQ has proved to be really high in both the internet and TV series. He has built things which are far more advanced than most of the other characters can build, including a rocket from a bus and even a time machine. However, sometimes these devices can malfunction and work against him, sometimes leading to his own death.

Sniffles also has a craving for ants. However, whenever he tries to eat one, they usually kill him, after torturing him in the most sadistic manners, first. Only in the episode "Blast from the Past" has Sniffles eaten an ant without being killed as a result.

In general, Sniffles' deaths are slower and possibly more painful than most of the other male characters.

[edit] Flaky

Flaky the frightened porcupine.
Flaky the frightened porcupine.
  • Animal: North American Porcupine
  • Gender: Male, confirmed by Mondo Media
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count: 3
  • Death Count: 25
  • V/A: Nica Lorber

A red porcupine whose quills are full of dandruff, thus the name. Flaky is one of the more popular characters in series and has the identifiable personality of being a very shy and timid character. However, Flaky's personality is often misunderstood by both some of the fans and even those around him. For instance, Flaky will try to rescue the character that is in danger but Flaky can't muster up the courage to do so.

Flaky has often been viewed as a coward. However Flaky's actions in both the internet shorts and the TV series go against this as se had been brave and in several occasions saved her own life. Additionally, when hanging around with Cuddles, Flaky is often forcefully dragged into situations that lead to both their demises, despite her warning Cuddles about possible dangers that could occur.

Flaky is a helpful character, as evidenced by a couple of the TV episodes. All these factors suggest that Flaky is not only overtly cautiousness (as opposed to being a coward), but also one of the more intelligent and kind characters of the series.

In "Party Animal", it is revealed that Flaky is allergic to peanuts.

Flaky's gender was debated at first because of lack of information about him(and, according to the creators, to stir up some trouble among the debaters). However, it was stated in the first season TV/DVD commentary that Flaky is indeed a boy. It seems some of the characters are as confused about his gender like most viewers were.In the episode "Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya" Disco bear seems to only be interested when he arrives at his door near the end.

[edit] Handy

Handy frustation look after attemping to change a light bulb in Shard at Work.
Handy frustation look after attemping to change a light bulb in Shard at Work.
  • Animal: Beaver
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count: 2
  • Death Count: 16
  • V/A: Warren Graff

An orange craftsman beaver with unexplained amputated hands. The stumps are covered with bandages. He wears a tool belt and a yellow worker's helmet. His dam mostly consists of tools that are operated by hand.

Despite his lack of hands, he is still capable of building many things big or small, though we never actually see him build it in the first place - it is usually off-screen. Usually, whenever he builds something for the female characters they are very pleased and often thank him by hugging him for it. This has led some fans to believe that he has a crush on them.

However, whenever we see him try to do something which would usually require hands he fails and pulls his trademark frustration look, indicating that he forgot that he didn't have hands. Usually when he finds a compromise, it will lead to his own death and sometimes the death of the other characters.

It's possible that in the TV series, Handy has gained an interest in flying, though there not much evidence to go on this. In the T.V. series episode "In a Jam," it became apparent that he has epilepsy, the flashing lights triggering a seizure.

[edit] The Mole

Mole operating a spotlight.
Mole operating a spotlight.
  • Animal: Mole
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 48
  • Death Count: 16
  • V.A.: N/A

A blind mole with a mole on his face (which served as a detonation device in "Mole in the City") and dark glasses. He usually wears a purple turtleneck. Like Mime, he rarely speaks. It is possible that he is not only blind, but also mute as well, but he is not deaf, though he does have hearing problem, as seen in "Party Animal". Disaster follows his blind bumbling, and he seems to love stuffed animals. His actions and character are that much like those of Mr. Magoo. In several instances, he is seen using another tree friends severed head as if it was a Melon/Pumpkin/Bowling Ball. He doesn't appear to have his driver's license revoked, since he has been seen driving. He also has an arch-nemesis known as The Rat, most likely because they both have careers in industrial espionage.

In the web shorts, The Mole rarely dies, and usually causes harm to the other Tree Friends due to his lack of eyesight. However, in the TV series, he begins to die a lot more often.

In "Blind Date", The Mole was supposed to go on a date with Giggles. But due to a series of misunderstandings, he went on a date with Lumpy instead.

[edit] Splendid

Splendid has a bright idea.
Splendid has a bright idea.
  • Animal: Northern flying squirrel
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 38
  • Death Count: 2
  • V.A.: Rhode Montijo, David Winn in the TV Series.

A blue superhero flying squirrel. His superpowers are based loosely on those of Superman; he can fly, shoot laser beams from his eyes, has super strength, supersonic hearing, can turn back time and can breathe ice. He is often seen doing housework until he hears a character that needs to be rescued.

The irony of Splendid being a superhero is that he often unintentionally kills the characters he rescues. This is usually either because of his ignorance or even his own powers. Most of the time, he is oblivious to the other characters deaths. He often flies away without checking to see if the other characters are actually safe.

Splendid isn't featured in the series a whole lot due to his repetitive trend of killing the characters he rescues. Whenever he appears, he is usually the character the episode revolves around with the exception of "Class Act".

Some think that Splendid did not die in the internet shorts. This all depends on whether the fans assume or not that Splendid was killed in the schoolhouse explosion in "Class Act" but the creators say that every character in surely died, either in the school explosion, or the forest fire that would be caused. His only confirmed death was in one of the TV episodes where he was over-exposed to his one and only super-hero weakness: Kryptonut - a reference to Superman's Kryptonite weakness.

[edit] Disco Bear

Disco Bear under a disco ball.
Disco Bear under a disco ball.
  • Animal: Bear
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 21
  • Death Count: 10
  • V.A.: Peter Herrmann

A golden bear with an orange afro who likes to dance to disco music. He wears 1970s style clothing such as his bell bottoms and his dancing platform shoes. He usually gets everyone around him in life threatening trouble while dancing, but mistakes their movements of pain for funky dance moves. He is mostly seen either showing off or trying to impress other female characters, such as Giggles and Petunia and usually killing them in the process. Despite his failures in wooing the ladies (and the fact that the ladies he tries to get are in their teens, while he is an adult), he seems to be pretty well off financially as we've seen him with a private ski cabin in "Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya", his fancy home in the TV series and his own submarine in "Sea What I Found". Disco Bear also has quite bad eating habits as seen in "A Change of Heart" and "Ipso Fatso", possibly referring to Elvis Presley. He's also one of the few characters known to be without a different colored belly, as well as the only one to have chest hair, which proves just how old he is.

[edit] Russell

Russell the Atlantic Sea Otter Pirate.
Russell the Atlantic Sea Otter Pirate.
  • Animal: Sea Otter
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 2
  • Death Count: 10
  • V.A.: Jeff Biancalana (1st), Francis Carr (2nd)

A turquoise sea otter pirate with typical pirate accessories like a Jolly Roger's hat, a hook, an eyepatch and two wooden peg legs. He enjoys fishing, sailing and eating seafood, especially clams. Russell's initial character design depicted him with a five o'clock shadow, though since his early appearances, it seems as though he shaves regularly. Typically, his vocabulary consists only of 'Yar!' and 'Yar?', though in the episode "Get Whale Soon", he also says things like 'Aha!' and 'Huh?' Sometimes, when put in a scary or voilent situation, Russell will go insane and start laughing in a crazy manner, as seen in "Get Whale Soon". Because Russell spends most of his time in the water, he is rarely seen with the other characters, though he does appear in a few episodes with Lumpy, although nowadays he seems to appear with all the others as well.

[edit] Mime

Mime, entertaining
Mime, entertaining
  • Animal: Deer
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count:18
  • Death Count: 12
  • V.A.: N/A

A purple deer with a painted face who wears a black/purple and white striped shirt. He usually doesn't speak because he is a mime, causing others to have a hard time understanding him. Apparently, most of his possesions are imaginary yet can be stolen, as evidenced in "Easy for you to Sleigh". It was once said that he's mute, but in some Episodes, like in "Out of Sight, out of Mime" and "Happy Trails Part 1", he has made audible noises, making it evident that he can speak, he just doesn't choose to. He is talented with circus skills like juggling and creating balloon animals. His attempts to entertain his fellow Happy Tree Friends often have fatal consequences. Mime is also very fond of peanuts, going so far as to stick his hand in a blender to eat them. He is also a bit on the pudgy side (most noticeable in the opening credits for "Keeping it Reel" when his picture pops up.) He's slowly becoming a very popular character, appearing in more and more episodes in the TV series.

[edit] Lifty and Shifty

Lifty (left) and Shifty (right) in Milkin' It
Lifty (left) and Shifty (right) in Milkin' It
  • Animal: Common Raccoon
  • Gender: Males
  • TV Count: 4 (both)
  • Kill Count: Shifty 16; Lifty: 13
  • Death Count: Lifty: 17; Shifty: 18
  • V.A.: Mark Giambruno, Kenn Navarro in the TV Series.

Two green kleptomaniac raccoon twin brothers. They frequently steal merchandise from the other Happy Tree Friends. The two mostly steal from Lumpy - in "Milkin' It", they stole a cow from Lumpy's farm, in "Meat Me For Lunch" they stole meat from Lumpy's store and in "Concrete Solution" they stole his wallet.

Although they have the same markings, personality and voice; Shifty wears a fedora, and he bosses Lifty around. Despite the smirks on their faces and their kleptomania, they almost always end up perishing in the process. Their green color implies money, greed and selfishness, relating to their 'criminal duo' personalities. They also have a trademark evil snigger. Both twins are very selfish and both would rather see their sibling die than give up their loot or be caught.

In "Gems the Breaks" Lifty and Shifty accidentally found out Splendid's weakness and, although they were boiled to death, they were indirectly responsible for being the first (and so far only) ones to kill Splendid.

[edit] Cro-Marmot

Cro-Marmot the prehistoric marmot frozen in a block of ice.
Cro-Marmot the prehistoric marmot frozen in a block of ice.
  • Animal: Prehistoric Marmot
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 1
  • Kill Count: 6
  • Death Count: 5
  • V.A.: N/A

Cro-Marmot is a marmot frozen in a block of ice. He is somehow able to perform many tasks while entirely encased in ice, such as throwing snowballs, somewhat akin to how Handy can perform construction and other tasks without any visible hands. To keep himself frozen, Cro-Marmot stays mainly in cold areas, and sometimes drives an ice cream truck. Cro-Marmot lives in a giant snow globe, or rather a small igloo inside a giant snow globe. Cro-Marmot's hobbies include serving people ice cream, snow boarding, surfing, and winning surfing competitions. Cro-Marmot hardly dies in the series, the reason being that the ice he's usually encased in protects him from disaster. Unless something happens to the ice, he is almost invulnerable to most unfortunate events. The only episode in which he is not frozen is "Dino-Sore Days", as that episode occurred during the ancient times when he was not frozen. Cro-Marmot usually appears in the series as a background character, and has hardly any showcase appearances, but has been marked his first appearance bigger than a cameo since Snow What/Dino-Sore Days (either could be considered accurate) in the episode "Wipe Out".

It isn't sure if he was killed by Flippy in "Double Whammy Part 2", because he is frozen in ice.

[edit] Flippy

A "Flipped-Out" Flippy.
A "Flipped-Out" Flippy.
  • Animal: Bear
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 2
  • Kill Count: 69
  • Death Count: 6
  • V.A.: Aubrey Ankrum

A green bear. He is another adult character and furthermore a veteran of war. In each episode he is always wearing his Battle Dress Uniform with dog tags and green beret with checkered crest. There is some evidence to suggest that Flippy fought in the Vietnam War, particularly his obsession in making booby traps inspired by the Viet Cong, as well as a flashback of his experience of being held captive by them (as seen in "Easy for You to Sleigh"). In addition, his attire seems to resemble to the U.S. Army Special Forces, which played a role during the Vietnam War.

Whenever he sees or hears something that reminds him of war (e.g. gunshot-like sounds or crackling campfires) his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder kicks in and he goes insane and kills everyone around him, believing that he is still in the war. When fippling out, several physical features about him change: his eyes turn a different color, usually green or yellow, his voice changes from high and cute to low and evil, and his teeth become pointed. In the original shorts, his teeth became crooked.

Flippy has many military weapons. He uses them regularly when killing the other characters, but for some reason, favors his large bowie knife and sometimes uses grenades. He also has a display of valuable armor and other war-related objects (with the exception of several Ancient Greek pottery kept in his house, suggesting his fascination for Ancient Greece, although the art on them suggested records of Alexander the Great) in his home as seen on "Easy for you to Sleigh". All these military features are likely to be reference to Rambo.

"Happy Trails Part 2" is the only episode which Flippy appears prominently in without him going berserk and killing everyone. It was originally Pop who was going to star in that episode, but was replaced by Flippy at the last moment. Which is probably why his voice is low pitched.

Flippy rarely appears in the series most likely due to his repetitive trend in most of the episodes he appears in. Despite this, he is considered a fan favorite and possibly the most popular character in the series. Additionally he is one of the few who rarely dies in the series.

Flippy, like Cuddles, Nutty and Lumpy has an account on the website MySpace where it mentions that he enjoys jogging, feeding birds, eating chocolate chip cookies, and sewing.

Flippy has killed all the characters at least once, except for Splendid and, possibly, Cro-Marmot. It is highly unlikely that he could kill either of them since Splendid has super-powers and Cro-Marmot is encased in ice. He hasn't killed Pop & Cub intentionally (although this is debatable, since Flippy could had seen them and dealt with them by using a grenade, explaining the explosion that killed them). For some reason, whenever he flips out, he usually kills Toothy first such as in "Hide and Seek" and "Party Animal."

Although Flippy can be the most cruel and dangerous character in HTF, his good side is considered to be one of the most social and kindest character. This is proven in several of episodes where he is seen doing social activities with some of the other characters such as going to the movies and playing hide and seek. Basically, in most the episodes he is in shows him that he is friendly and social before "flipping-out."

He appears to be a heavy sleeper, which is shown on "Easy for You to Sleigh." This may not be true, because there is no further evidence of this. Also, oddly enough, Flippy seemed quite wealthy for his character, as in addition to many antiques he owned, a home theatre system and large screen TV could be seen in his living room suggesting that he had a high rank in the army. His rank is Sergeant

[edit] Pop

Pop finds a brick clogging the blades of his lawnmower.
Pop finds a brick clogging the blades of his lawnmower.
  • Animal: Bear
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Count: 3
  • Kill Count: 23
  • Death count: 14
  • V.A.: Aubrey Ankrum

A light brown bear. He is another adult character. Some people refer to him as the stereotypically clueless, bathrobe-wearing, pipe-smoking 1950s style sitcom father. He never appeared in an episode without Cub.

His son Cub often dies as a result of both his attention and inattention - although it's clear that he loves him. In the web series he usually didn't know of his son's deaths, but he is more aware of them in the TV series. He isn't very bright and when he tries to save his son, he often kills him and sometimes himself, too.

Pop does not appear in as many episodes as his son. He originally was going to appear in the second part of "Happy Trails", but many considered it weird for Pop to kill Flaky. Instead Flippy took his place. However, Pop becomes more prominent in the TV shows.

Pop is one of the few characters in the show who has a much more intelligible way of speaking. He almost speaks clear words in some of the episodes he appears in and even reads a story to Cub in one of them.

One question on 'Question Kenn' asked if Disco Bear and Pop could be the same character, though this is certainly not the case as they have been seen as separate characters in episodes in which they both appeared in. In the episode from hero to eternity he seems to think Splendid is a show-off or have a disaproval of him

[edit] Cub

Cub playing with his toy cars.
Cub playing with his toy cars.
  • Animal: Bear
  • Gender: Male
  • TV Starring: 3
  • Kill Count: 1
  • Death Count: 25
  • V.A.: Ellen Connell

A very young light brown bear, who is the son of Pop. He has the appearance and personality of a baby but the intelligence and mobility of a young child. He's the youngest and smallest character of the Happy Tree Friends and his eyes are different than the eyes of the other characters.

He has appeared and died much more in the series than his father. And usually his deaths are a result of Pop's bad parenting, even though Pop clearly cares about him. If his father's not paying attention to him, he will often be seen wandering around operating machines by himself or carelessly drifting into death-introducing hazards.

Cub rarely survives in the series and his deaths are usually very gruesome, painful and ironic.

[edit] Other Characters

[edit] Buddhist Monkey

The creators thought this character was such a great idea that they felt he deserved his own show, which currently has had only two episodes. These episodes were originally exclusive for the second and third DVDs. However, in June 2006, the episode "Enter The Garden" was released on the website. As his name implies, he is a monkey who lives his life in the way of Buddha. He has brown fur with four dots in the shape of a square on his forehead and wears what appears to be a brown, monk-like robe with a number of beads worn as a belt. He is often very calm and enjoys peaceful libraries and gardens, but he is known for his sudden rages when the evil Generic Tree Ninjas ruin books and destroy gardens. He has only ever killed the ninjas and nobody else. His show's premise appears to parody popular action anime, such as Dragon Ball Z. He has made several cameo appearances in the regular episodes. Such appearances include Buddhist Monkey playing on a cinema screen and Cub playing a claw-grabbing prize machine with an image of Buddhist Monkey on the side of it. He is the only character who has not died yet. Buddhist Monkey is considered a fictional character in the HTF world.

[edit] Elephant Balloon Vendor

A stylistic character only appearing in "Mole and the City". This large elephant sells balloons to a child, until he is cut apart by raining shards of glass broken by The Mole. His death in turn saves The Mole’s life, as the balloons released offer a soft landing for him.

[edit] Giggles's Mother

Appearing only in the episode "Helping Helps", Giggles’s mother answered the door to her home when Splendid came to drop off Giggles’s body. She looks almost identical to Giggles, only she is much taller, wears an apron, and has heavy pink colored fur. With the exception of Pop, she is the only parent of a main character to appear in any episode.

[edit] Mittens/Honey

An intensely cute kitten who can be considered a pet rather than a person in the animal world of Happy Tree Friends. While not actually inducing death, Mittens/Honey has a tendency to inflict extra pain in typical Happy Tree Friends fashion, for example cutting off Sniffles' frozen tongue and using it as a cushion. The reason this cute kitten has two names is that the crew, thus far, haven't really decided between the two as to which the kitty's name is. She appears in the episodes "A Sight For Sore Eyes", "Blind Date", "Tongue Twister Trouble", "Junk in the Trunk" and "Who's To Flame". She died in "Junk in the Trunk" and in "Blind Date", where she was hit by Mole's car (though she wasn't shown dead). She is seen in some Happy Tree Friends merchandise and advertisements.

[edit] Panda Mom

An innocent Panda mother that is saved by Buddhist Monkey from the Unnamed Ninjas. She and her child may only appear in the episode "Books of Fury".

[edit] Pig Child

The final character to appear in "Mole and the City", this child appears devastated by the Elephant Balloon Vendor’s death. But he soon perks up when The Mole gives him the balloons, which then send him floating away into the sky. It can be assumed that he died somehow.

[edit] Generic Tree Friends

Used en masse when needed, for example, in a large audience. They are light in color, faceless (except in "Class Act"), and usually appear as all rabbits or all bears. They are rarely used as not many episodes require large crowds. In the Happy Tree Friends and Friends episode in which the dirty chair's spring goes right through Flaky's body bringing out her large intestine, and got smashed by the theater chair, you can see a Generic Tree Friend in the back row. They are also occasionally killed en masse.

[edit] Old Prehistoric Sniffles

This prehistoric anteater appears in the episode "Blast from the Past" and is the ancestor of Sniffles. Sniffles has seen him when he went the Past with his time machine. Old Sniffles has stone age-clothes on and he had learned from Sniffles that he should eat Ants. In this times, anteaters didn't eat Ants.

[edit] Fall Out Boy Band Members

In the Happy Tree Friends music video for the song "The Carpal Tunnel of Love", the band members of Fall Out Boy are seen with a Happy Tree Friends make over. It's highly unlikely that they will ever be seen again in a real episode of Happy Tree Friends, but their cameos in this irregular episode are noteworthy. Also because they die as any normal Happy Tree Friends character would. They are killed by having their bodies flattened and are decapitated when Lumpy pulls the Ice Cream Parlor out of its foundations.

[edit] Enemies

There are some evil characters in the Happy Tree Friends world. Almost all of them are involved in killing somebody.

[edit] The Ants, an ant family

A family (Mother, Son, Daughter and Baby) of ants with sadistic manners of defending themselves from Sniffles. The Ants always kill Sniffles when he attempts to eat them, after first inflicting gruesome tortures upon him such as shredding his tongue with a cheese grater and then dripping lemon juice onto it. Apparently they were friends with Sniffles in caveman times until Sniffles came to that time in a time machine and ate the mother. Caveman Sniffles then ate father ant and liked it.

  • Death Count: 2

[edit] The Turtle

This turtle followes Lumpy trying to eat him and at the end it does.It appears in"Junk in the Trunk", "A Sight for sore Eyes" and "Letter late than Never".It eats Lumpy in Letter late than Never.

Kill count:1

[edit] Whistle

A dog that appears in "Doggone It" and a dog that looks similar to it in "A Sight for sore Eyes" and "Junk in the Trunk". He has the same eyes as Cub and can be very violent like Flipped-out Flippy. He is purchased by Pop and Cub in the episode "Doggone It". In this episode, Whistle becomes dangerous and deadly when he hears a whistle. In "A Sight for Sore Eyes" his lookalike is purchased by The Mole and helps him to see. Whistle is based on Ken Pontac`s dog with the same name.

  • Kill Count:5

[edit] Cursed Idol

A maya statue which brings death and bad luck. When it appears, everyone who is near the statue dies brutally. This idol seems a lot like the golden fertility idol in Raiders of the Lost Ark. It stars in the episodes "Treasure Those Idol Moments", "Hello Dolly", and "Idol Curiosity". It appears as a prop in many other episodes such as "Crazy Antics", "Happy Trails Part 1" and "Ipso Fatso" (It does not actually appear as a prop, but appears on the menu at the lunch).

Kill Count:14

[edit] The Cursed Earthquake

The Cursed Earthquake appears in "Idol Curiosity" whenever the Cursed Idol is removed from it's shrine. It is unknown if we will ever "see" the Cursed Earthquake again in future episodes.

Kill Count:3

[edit] The Rat

A stylistically drawn rat, similar to the villains in crime noir, and mortal enemy of The Mole. He has appeared only in the episode "Mole and the City", and was killed in an explosion. The Rat wears a trench coat and a Fedora, has black fur, and long, scraggly whiskers. His vehicle seems to be a giant see-though ball, much like those used by domestic rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. Whether he will ever appear again is uncertain, as the style in which he is drawn differs drastically from the other Happy Tree Friends.

  • death count: 1

[edit] Generic Tree Ninjas

A special group of Generic Tree Friends from Japan, who terrorize the sacred places where Buddhist Monkey lives. These dark ninjas are exclusive to the Buddhist Monkey episodes, both of which have recently been shown online. They always seem to be ruining gardens and wrecking libraries. This always brings on the full wrath of Buddhist Monkey, who will then proceed to defeat them all. Unlike stereotypical ninjas, they are dressed in dark green.
