Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Regular Gears

[edit] Brigandier

A Gear piloted by Bart. It was excavated out of the ruins in Aveh by Bart and his Sand Pirate crew and later customized to meet Bart's exact standards. He had a feather placed on the Gear's head and purposely had one of the Gear's optical sensors destroyed and covered over with an eyepatch to reflect Bart's own physical appearance. It first appears when Bart and his pirates attack the Aveh sand cruiser carrying a captured Weltall along with Fei and Citan back to Bledavik. Mistaking Fei for an Aveh pilot, he attacked Weltall after the sand cruiser was sunk. The battle between the Gears caused them both to sink into a Stalactite Cave. It suffered damage to its leg joints and was later repaired by Isaac Balthasar.

[edit] Crescens

Crescens after being introduced by Rattan and before battling Fei and his party at Sargasso point.
Crescens after being introduced by Rattan and before battling Fei and his party at Sargasso point.

A thin white and gold Gear with no arms and large green angel wings on its head. The Gear was constructed by Solaris to be used exclusively by Emeralda. Similar to its pilot, it is made partially out of nanomachines. The Gear makes its first appearance at the Sargasso Gate when Krelian, having harvested enough of Emeralda's nanomachines to suit his purposes, released it on Fei and his friends in the hopes that they would dispose of her for them or vice-versa. After Crescens was defeated the brainwashing performed on Emeralda wore off and she then joined Fei's party in their quest to stop Krelian.

[edit] Heimdal

Citan Uzuki's gear. It was one of the few Gears excavated from ruins in Aveh by Bart and his Sand Pirates. It was stored away in his hideout while a search for a suitable pilot was underway. The Gear was so awkward and unresponsive that it wound up severely injuring every test pilot that climbed in its cockpit. Citan Uzuki came across it by chance while he was a guest of Bart's along with Fei Fong Wong. Citan first piloted it when Bart's lair was attacked by Gebler. Cognizant of its "Wild Horse" nature he piloted it anyway, putting all his skills as a former Element to use and subduing the rebellious Gear. Heimdal bares a striking resemblance to Citan's Omnigear, Fenrir. Heimdal was named after Heimdall, the God of Light in Norse myth.

[edit] Renmazuo

Renmazuo performing a level two deathblow on Weltall-Id.
Renmazuo performing a level two deathblow on Weltall-Id.

A custom built Gear made by the Ethos Society for Etone Billy Lee Black. It was stored beneath Billy's orphanage in Aquvy before Billy joined Fei's party full time, then it was moved onto the Yggdrasil. The Gear makes an impressive and heroic entry into the game when Billy summons it on the Reaper Ship. Renmazuo, much like Billy uses a variety of guns for weapons including the "Jessie Cannon", a special Gear that transforms into a gun built and piloted by his father Jessiah "Jessie" Black. Late into Disc two Renmazuo is aligned with an Anima Relic and transformed into the Omnigear El Renmazuo.

[edit] Seibzehn

Siebzehn entering Solaris.
Siebzehn entering Solaris.

A titanic blue Gear controlled by Maria Balthasar, "Siebzehn" is German for "Seventeen", perhaps inferring that Seibzehn was the seventeenth version of its design. Seibzehn is unlike most other Gears in Xenogears in a variety of ways, one of which being that Maria does not pilot it by sitting in a cockpit inside it - she rides on its head and controls it with verbal commands, similar to Giant Robo. It was created in Solaris by master Gear designer Nikolai Balthasar at the cost of hundreds of land dwellers' lives. Because part of the Gear's neural make up is comprised of -Wels-, the Gear itself has a personality and a degree of autonomy.

[edit] Stier

A large green gear, it shares several characteristics with its pilot, Ricardo Banderas. It has wheels on its feet and a large rocket on its back. Stier was custom built by the Nortune Battling Committee for Rico after he became champion for the first time. Rico never lost a match thereafter until Fei came along. After Rico was dethroned by Fei in the tournament the Battling Committee, which was run by the Ethos Society, arranged a special match for Rico and they rigged his Gear to malfunction and crash into the Kaiser's box seat. The incident lead to Rico being sentenced to execution after the Committee testified that Rico intentionally ploughed Stier into grandstands in an attempt to kill the Kaiser. Rico was later rescued by Fei and along with Citan, Elly and Hammer they fled to freedom from Kislev. In Disc two, Steir is aligned with an Anima Relic and transformed into the Omnigear El Stier.

[edit] Vierge

A sleek and powerful Gear piloted by Elly Van Houten. It was a custom built special forces Gear made by Solaris specifically for top-level Ether users (an elite few within Gebler known as the 'Elements'). It first appeared at the Mountain Path when Elly confronted and then fought Fei, acting under orders from Gebler command. When Elly turns against Solaris and sides with Fei's party the Gear becomes playable full-time. In battle Vierge is very fast with powerful Ether attacks but its physical attacks are rather lacking. Its special ability is Animum Ether Response Offensive Drones or AERODs, powerful Ether-powered attack drones. The Gear was based on the C-1 Vierge, Miang's prototype Gear.

[edit] Weltall

A black-red humanoid Gear. Its first appearance in the game sets the plot into motion and irrevocably changes the life of young protagonist Fei Fong Wong. Weltall was constructed in Kislev using parts supplied to them from Solaris by Grahf. It was specifically custom-made for Fei and Id. Many of the Gear's Black Box components were Ether amplifiers and components used to transform the Gear into Weltall-Id-. Grahf manipulated Gebler into raiding the factory where it was being stored and returning with it to Aveh, he also engineered it so it would crash-land in Lahan Village with the intention that Fei would get inside and Id would awaken within. While Fei was reluctant to pilot it after the incident, fate seemed to draw him and Weltall closer and closer together until he just accepted being its pilot. At the end of Disc one Weltall is tracked down and destroyed by Ramsus' Omnigear Vendetta. Weltall is rebuilt into the larger and more powerful Weltall-2 by the three Sages of Shevat at the start of Disc two.

[edit] Weltall-2

A larger, more powerful version of Weltall rebuilt from the wreckage of the original Weltall at the start of Disc two by the Sages of Shevat. While still only a normal Gear, Fei's level of power as the Contact and a new feature installed on the Gear known as "System Id" gave it a level of power equal to that of an Omnigear. System Id, designed by Taura Melchior, allowed Fei to use all the raw power and abilities of his destructive alter-ego Id without Id actually awakening and taking control of his body. This effectively allows the player to immediately enter Hypermode. It also starts with two other special abilities that are lost upon its transformation into the Xenogears. Fei pilots Weltall-2 throughout most of Disc two until it is transformed into the Xenogears at the end of the game. Weltall-2's trial-by-fire came when Fei took it into battle against Vendetta, the Omnigear piloted by Ramsus that had destroyed the original Weltall.

[edit] Xenogears

Xenogears and Alpha Weltall with the Zohar in the background.

The word Xeno comes from the Greek word, "foreign", as this would apply to Fei's gear, Xenogears. It is not an Omnigear, rather Fei's Weltall gear that made contact with the Wave Existence. It is a large white Gear with eight spikes coming out of its back and angelic wings. Fei receives it after meeting the Wave Existence inside Zohar. The Xenogears is truly a one of a kind machine, as evidenced at the end when the Anima relics of all the party member's omnigears were stripped from them and stolen by Krelian in order to revive Deus. All the gears are reverted to their original forms until Fei comes on scene with the Xenogears.

[edit] Omnigears

[edit] Andvari

The Fatima Family Treasure. A tall bright red Omnigear with a large yellow horn and small black wings that was piloted over 500 years ago by Roni Fatima, the first king and founder of Aveh. After the Shevat-Solaris War Roni sealed the Omnigear away inside of Ft. Jasper, which was then hidden in the Nisan Mausoleum. A legend was then passed down through the Fatima Dynasty that if ever Aveh or Nisan were in peril then Roni's descendants could unlock the treasure wake the Omnigear from its slumber to save either nation. Such a time came 500 years later when Roni's descendant Prince Bart Fatima unlocked the Omnigear and claimed it for his own in order to fight back against Solaris, who had put the whole world in jeopardy, not just Aveh. Andvari is the first Omnigear that Fei's party obtains. Andvari is alinged with the Anima Relic Dan.

[edit] El Crescens

At one point in Xenogears' development Emeralda was meant to have an Omnigear just like the other main characters known as El Crescens. Unfortunately due to time and money constraints the portion of the game where Crescens is aligned with an Anima Relic was cut out of the game and El Crescens went with it. A concept sketch of El Crescens exists within the Xenogears Perfect Works which proves that it was an option indented to be implemented at one point in the game's development cycle.

[edit] El Renmazuo

Billy's Omnigear. It was aligned with the Anima Relic Joseph in the first Anima Dungeon near the end of the game. El Renmazuo looked strikingly similar to the normal Renmazuo, though its Omnigear form was measurably more powerful and sported a pair of diamond-shaped wings instead of a heroic cape. Billy puts his new Omnigear to good use as he helps Fei and Elly defeat the massive G-Elements Gear.

[edit] El Seibzehn

At one point in Xenogears' development Maria was meant to have an Omnigear just like the other main characters known as El Seibzehn. Unfortunately due to time and money constraints the portion of the game where Seibzehn aligned with an Anima Relic was cut out of the game and the Omnigear went with it. A concept sketch exists within the Xenogears Perfect Works which proves it was an option intended to be implemented at one point in the game's development cycle.

[edit] El Stier

Rico's Omnigear. El Stier was created when the Anima Relic Gad was aligned with Stier in the second Anima Dungeon near the end of the Game.

[edit] Fenrir

Citan Uzuki's original Gear. It was made when Solarian-built Gear was aligned with the Anima Relic Asher several years before the start of the game. When Citan assumed his fake name and went down to the surface on a mission from Emperor Cain he had the Omnigear stored away in the care of Gaspar. The Omnigear is a strong-looking Gear colored royal green and white that wields a sword in battle. Citan reclaims his Omnigear when he reclaims his sword from Shevat just before going to Solaris, however the first opportunity that the player is given to use it does not come until well into Disc two at the first Anima Dungeon.

[edit] Non-playable Omnigears

Omnigears are Gears that have been aligned with an Anima Relic, one of the many leftover technologies from the Eldridge Civilization that have laid dormant in the earth for thousands of years. Anima Relics enhance the combat abilities of a Gear as well as eliminating the physical control interfaces present in the cockpit, replacing them with a system controlled by the thoughts of the pilot, who must be 'synchronized' with the Relic, or at least marginally so in order to utilize the Omnigear. The rate of synchronization determines the power output of the Omnigear, as explained in the game, and the transformed Omnigear usually resembles the Gear from which it was formed but with sharper design.

[edit] Alpha Weltall

A Gear found by Grahf that was aligned with the Anima Relic Naphtali 500 years prior to the start of the game, thus turning it into an Omnigear. It was a powerful grey and black Gear that would appear at times out of nowhere and always brought trouble with it. The Gear sports a pair of large black wings that are often retracted, only extending to full span when the Gear is at full power. The player is presented with the opportunity to fight this Gear twice during the game, once at Mahanon and a second time at the Zohar Cave.

[edit] Amphysvena

A purple and black two-headed Omnigear with a long tail seen at Mahanon, Golgoda and Merkava. There was some controversy as to whose Omnigear this really is: some people say this is actually Krelian's Omnigear, while others argue that it is Ramsus' Omnigear, Vendetta, aligned with a new Anima Relic. However, a translated description on Amphysvena's Xenogears Perfect Works page clearly identifies it as Krelian's Omnigear. This is backed up by the fact that Amphysvena is seen at Mahanon and Golgoda, which are two places that Ramsus does not go to while Krelian does. Krelian gave it to Ramsus to pilot at Merkava because Ramsus can align with any Anima Relic and pilot any Omnigear. When Fei and his friends storm Merkava to try and rescue Elly, Ramsus confronts and fights them for the final time and is defeated. Amphysvena appeared to self-destruct and opened up a hole in the wall with its explosion that allowed Fei to continue onward, however Ramsus managed to survive the Omnigear's probable destruction. It is unknown if this is the same Gear that Krelian was seen piloting in a flashback 500 years ago or not. Supposing it is Krelian's Omnigear then it has been aligned with the Anima Relic Judah. In a conversation with the Gazel Ministry (aka SOL-9000) Yonelbe (the chief Gazel) lists everyone's name and corresponding anima relic. He states all of them, including Krelians Judah, making Amphysvena, as well as the gear seen in the flashback, Krelians gear.

[edit] Opiomorph

Miang's Omnigear. It is aligned to an Anima Relic 500 years before the beginning of the game, though which specific Relic is uncertain. Opiomorph is a massive white and black Omnigear trimmed in gold and red that is supported by a long tail instead of a pair of legs, like a Naga. The Omnigear is first glimpsed in Solaris being stored in a massive vat of water. Fei, Elly and Citan stumble upon it while exploring the deepest recesses of the Soylent System and looking for a way out of Solaris. Krelian augments the Gear’s makeup so that Nanomachines can effortlessly repair and replace any damaged parts of the Omnigear instantaneously. The only way to truly defeat the Opiomorph is to completely deconstruct it at the subatomic level, through the use of nano-dissassemblers designed by Melchior, though gameplay-wise there is no deviation from the standard Gear-on-Gear combat seen throughout the rest of the game.

[edit] Regurus

An Omnigear suspiciously resembling Elly's Vierge that once belonged to Sophia, the Holy Mother of Nisan 500 years ago. Can also be translated as "Regulus". It was created when the Anima Relic Dinah was aligned with Sophia's gear. After her death at the end of the Shevat-Solaris War Regurus was taken to Shevat and placed in storage. When Sophia's reincarnation, Elly was in Shevat Regurus began to respond when she approached it. She was offered ownership of the Omnigear, seeing as she was Sophia reincarnated and the only one who could operate the Gear but she declined and opted to use her Vierge instead. In Disc 2, then Fei and the rest of the party was captured by Krelian and taken to Golgoda, Elly finally claimed the Omnigear thinking its power could help save her friends. She took it into battle against two Wel-Gear hybrids of Krelian's making and while she did manage to defeat them piloting the Omnigear in battle took a toll on her and she collapsed. What happened to Regurus after that point is not known and it is not seen again after that point. Many fans were disappointed with Regurus because while it was one of the better looking Gears in the game it was not a playable gear, the battle in which Elly fights in it is entirely scripted and the player is not presented with an opportunity to control it. As a minor consolation Regurus is available as a playable gear in the Nortune Battle Arena. If a player makes it all the way to the core of Merkava just before fighting Deus then returns back to the surface Regurus will be unlocked and added to the roster of Battle Arena gears.

[edit] Vendetta

Ramsus' Omnigear. After his gear Wyvern was aligned with the Anima Relic Zebulun it was transformed into a monstrous Omnigear that became an embodiment of his hatred for his nemesis Fei. Its wiry golden frame and massive black wings created an ominous air of foreboding around the Gear. It made an indelible mark when it rushed into frame chasing Weltall from behind then completely decimating it in the battle that followed. Vendetta's destruction of Weltall was the last event witnessed on Disc 1. However, impressive as it was as an Omnigear it was not indestructible. When Fei came back in his newly rebuilt Weltall-2 and went one-on-one with Ramsus again he proved to be the better of the two yet again and defeated Vendetta hand over fist forcing Ramsus to withdraw. Vendetta appeared one last time in Nisan when Ramsus tried to do Krelian's dirty work and tried to kidnap Elly. However Elly, Margie and Elly's squad of former Gebler soldiers were able to appeal to his humanity and convinced him to stop his attack. Ramsus retreated and Vendetta was never seen again in the game. It is assumable that it was disposed of and its Anima Relic consumed by Deus when Krelian gave Ramsus his Omnigear Amphysvena to use at Merkava.

[edit] Enemy Gears

[edit] Achtzehn

Chu-Chu fighting Achtzehn, the sister gear of Seibzehn and Calamity.
Chu-Chu fighting Achtzehn, the sister gear of Seibzehn and Calamity.

Achtzehn is a large Gear, taking the name of the German word for "Eighteen". It resembles Maria's Gear, Seibzehn ("Seventeen") and Calamity in appearance, but sports a deep red and black color scheme and an enormous cannon on its right arm, which it connects to one of its backpack turbines for its signature attack. It also sports a jamming device capable of disabling nearby Gears. Achtzehn, like Seibzehn, is a Gear capable of operating independently of a pilot due to inbuilt neural circuitry, the discovery of the persona of which is a significant plot event for Maria Balthasar.

[edit] Alkanshel

A titanic grey Gear that was excavated by the Ethos Society shortly before the beginning of the game. During Ramsus and Miang's introduction Shakhan makes a passing reference to it and notes that he wants to reveal its discovery to the people of Aveh at the annual Battling Tournament, but he never does (on screen at least). Alkanshel was stored in the massive basement complex underneath the Ethos HQ and kept a closely guarded secret from the general public. Bishop Stone uses it to escape the assault on the Ethos HQ and returns to Solaris with it. The Gear appears again when Stone, now fused with the Gear by Krelian, uses it to attack the Yggdrasil, hoping to kill Billy and the rest of the party with it. During the battle Grahf appears and gives Stone "The Power", which he uses to form a negative "Hate Barrier" around the Gear that nullifies the party's attacks on it. When Jesse arrived and used his Gear's special "Jesse Cannon" on the Alkanshel the Hate Barrier was shattered and Billy and his new friends were again able to damage and destroy the Alkanshel. The name of this gear is clearly a mis-romanization of the word 'Archangel'.

[edit] C-1 Vierge

A thin white gear lined in brown and red. This Gear, most likely the prototype for Elly's Vierge is piloted by Miang and makes a number of appearances in the game, always alongside Ramsus' Gears. It first appears in the Ignas Desert with Wyvern and confronts Id, it appears again in Aquvy when Ramsus attacks the Thames in the Haishao and once again at Babel Tower when Ramsus confronts the group in Wyvern. According to the Xenogears Perfect Works the C-1 Vierge is equipped with "Super AERODS", Ether-based weapons that could speculatively obliterate anything short of an Omnigear. Why Miang never used the Gear beyond a non-combat support role, especially given its alleged level of armament is quite puzzling. Any doubts regarding Miang's level of power however are quickly put to rest mere seconds into the battle with her Omnigear Opiomorph.

[edit] Calamity

A gigantic white and red Gear built by Isaac "Old Man" Balthasar. Calamity served as the prototype for Maria Balthasar's Seibzehn and Nikolai Balthasar's Achtzehn. Old Man Bal apparently rigged it with a remote control device and turned it on Fei and Bart after they left his hermitage in the Stalactite Cave, though his rationale for doing so is never explained in the game. The Gear was thought to be defeated by Fei and Bart, however when it suddenly roared back to life Fei used a powerful attack on it that completely obliterated it. Fei had no idea where this ability came from, yet Id, Fei's destructive alter-ego was seen using the exact same attack later in the game.

[edit] Element Gears

  • Bladegash — A tall and slender white and maroon Gear piloted by the Earth Element Domina. The Gear uses a large sword and can do four types of elemental damage with its physical attacks. The Gear is fought twice, once in Aquvy on the Yggdrasil and once in Babel Tower with Marinebasher. Bladegash is also part of the massive combiner Gear G-Elements. Bladegash is, true to Dominia's leader status, the main component of the G-Element gear. The various components of the other three Gears attaching to it, forming the arms, legs and head. The Gear was designed to reflect Domina's strengths in battle, primarily her strong physical attack and defence attributes and swordplay combat.
  • Grandgrowl — A white and red lion-like winged Gear piloted by the Fire Element Seraphita. The Gear attacks with powerful fire Ether abilities and strong physical attacks. The Gear is only fought once in the game and appears in the company of Tolone's Gear Skyghene. Grandgrowl is also a part of the massive combiner Gear G-Elements.
  • G-Elements — A massive combiner Gear that dwarfs most other Gears out there. It is first seen in the first Anima Relic Dungeon when all four Elements' Gears combine in one single Gear in order to fight Fei, Billy and a third party member to prevent them from leaving the dungeon with their new Omnigear El Renmazou. Dominia's humanoid Gear Bladegash makes up half the main torso and arms; Kelvena's dolphin-like Gear Marinebasher splits in two and becomes the Gear's legs; Seraphita's winged lion-like Gear Grandgrowl becomes the front half of the main torso; and Tolone's bird-like Gear Skyghene makes up the Gear's wings and head. Many have noted that the Gear appears to be modelled after the mecha that appear on shows like Voltron or the Power Rangers, which also start off as separate smaller mechs then combine into a larger and more powerful robot. The Gears' transformation and combining sequence also appeared to be modeled after similar scenes from various Sentai shows, with the Gears breaking down into respective parts and combining in a stylized and colorful "transformation universe". The G-Elements is seen again in a still image while Fei describes the group's mission to infiltrate Merkava and save Elly from Krelian. The Elements appear there in an attempt to help Ramsus out and initially block the way, but Fei convinces them to stand aside and let him save Elly. The Elements appear in the game again, but the G-Elements does not.
  • Haishao — A massive maroon and white fish-like Gear that operates entirely underwater. It is originally piloted dually by the Elements Dominia and Kelvena when they attack the Yggdrasil in Aquvy. The Haishao appears a second time piloted by Ramsus when Solaris mounts an assault on the city-ship Thames. As always, when Ramsus appears in battle he is accompanied by Miang, who took her custom C-1 Vierge underwater to act as a support unit for the Haishao. While the Gear's mechanical makeup does not change between fights, the abilities of its pilots greatly changes its performance and some of the abilities it utilizes. The Haishao is severely damaged by Elly when she turns her Vierge's AERODS on it, after which the AEROD special option is available to Elly during battles.
  • Marinebasher — A blue and white dolphin-shaped Gear piloted by the Water Element Kelvena. The Gear relies solely on Ether attacks and doesn't appear in battle without Bladegash, and appears to absorb damage from several sources including the Vierge's elemental-based Rods and the Weltall's normal attacks. Marinebasher is fought only once at Babel Tower. Marinebasher is also part of the massive combiner Gear G-Elements.
  • Skyghene — the blue and gold bird-like Gear of the Wind Element Tolone. The attacks from the air and uses its superior strength to inflict damage on its enemies. The Gear is only fought once in the game and appears with Seraphita's Grandgrowl. Skyghene is also part of the massive combiner Gear G-Elements.

[edit] Gebler Gears

The following gears are piloted by members of Elly's special Gebler squad.

  • Aegisknight — piloted by Broyer, it sports two massive piledrivers, one on each arm, which it uses to cause the Armor Loss status, allowing it to inflict increased damage on subsequent turns.
  • Clawknight — piloted by Vance, it has a shield on one arm and a massive claw on the other, for which it is named. It's faster than the other Knight-class Gears and often takes advantage of Aegisknight's armor-weakening abilities during group battles.
  • Swordknight — piloted by Stratski, it sports long, segmented "tails" on each shoulder which are capable of extending to great length in order to maximize their impact force on a target. The Swordknight also mounts a weak cannon on one arm.
  • Wandknight — piloted by Renk and Helmholtz, it is compact in design, its main armament consisting of a large ether rifle. It is typically seen with two small wings on its back, though these are more likely used to radiate heat generated by its main weapon than to assist flight.

[edit] Rattan and Mugwort

Rattan as he explains why he can't be seen personally.
Rattan as he explains why he can't be seen personally.

One of Krelian's experiments in fusing humans and Gears. Dark brown in color and armed with a large ball-like melee weapon and shield, he is first seen accompanying Emeralda at Gate 2 near Sargasso Point. He is not seen again until later, during Elly's attempt to rescue the party from Krelian. His combat potential is characterized as "off the charts", but the player never directly encounters him in combat. He is wracked by jittery spasms.

Mugwort is another of Krelian's experiments in human/Gear fusion. Green and white, he vaguely resembles a praying mantis and has several arms and legs with which to attack, all ending in sharp blades. He is seen during Elly's attempt to rescue the party from Krelian at Golgoda, and before that only briefly during the party's exploration of Mahanon. Like Rattan, his combat ability is said to be "off the charts", but he too is never directly encountered by the player in combat.

[edit] Shakhan's Gear

Manufactured by Solaris, this white and yellow Gear is used by Shakhan during his attempt to infiltrate Ft. Jasper, as well as during his attempt to destroy Fei and his friends at the first Gate battle. It is larger than a typical Gear with a spherical antigrav pod in place of legs, a shield on one arm and a Seal-claw on the other. It uses a siphon-tube to draw power from the Gate, after which it is capable of Seal ether attacks, normal physical attacks and a special physical attack with Seal-elemental damage, which can be negated through certain Gear accessories.

[edit] Urobolus

The final boss of the game. Krelian summons it up within the higher dimension of the Wave Existence to act as the final test of Fei's devotion to Elly. Should he defeat it Krelian would return Elly, should he fail he would die. Urobolus is an incarnation of the Urobolus Ring and the final incarnation of Miang, which it resembles strikingly. It looks like a pale-skinned woman with long purple hair angel wings and a long snake tail instead of legs, not unlike Miang's Omnigear Opiomorph. Similar to the final battle with Sephiroth at the end of Final Fantasy VII, the fight with Urobolus is primarily a storyline battle and should be easily winnable by using the Xenogears to its full potential. See Ouroboros.

[edit] Weltall-Id

Weltall-Id attempting to throw the Yggdrasil to the Brigandier.
Weltall-Id attempting to throw the Yggdrasil to the Brigandier.

A blood red gear with bright yellow markings and bright blue angel wings made of energy. According to Citan this is Weltall in its true form. Whenever Id manifests himself from within Fei, Weltall completely transforms and changes color from dark blue to thick red. With Id at its controls Weltall-Id is literally invincible, it is more than capable of throwing other Gears around like rag dolls. When Weltall was destroyed by Ramsus, its alter-ego Weltall-Id was destroyed as well. A true red-colored Weltall-2 is not seen on screen, but the Gear can transform into what it would most likely look like with Fei still in control and it still being blue. Weltall-Id is the feature of several of the game's few cinematic sequences. The player is treated to movies of Weltall transforming into Weltall-Id and Weltall-Id completely decimating Solaris.

[edit] Wyvern

A golden gear with long wings and a tail-like fin on its back. This Gear, styled after its mythical namesake is piloted by Gebler Commander Kahran Ramsus. The Gear wields a long sword and is very fast and agile, normally attacking multiple times in a row much like its pilot. Every time it appeared it was accompanied by the C-1 Vierge piloted by Ramsus' aide de camp Miang. In spite of Ramsus' skill and Miang's dutiful support Wyvern was often defeated and at one point torn limb from limb by Id. Before the end of Disc 1 Wyvern was aligned with the Anima Relic Zebulun and Wyvern was transformed into a vastly superior Omnigear which Ramsus renamed Vendetta. Wyvern is the Gear featured on the front of Xenogears' instruction booklet.

[edit] Xenogears-Id

The Xenogears under the control of Id. Xenogears-Id looks identical to Fei's Xenogears, only it is blood red and black rather than white, blue and red. After Xenogears-Id was subdued and Id and the Coward reintegrated with Fei's psyche the Gear transformed into its true form, the angelic Xenogears.

[edit] Yggdrasil IV

A massive Gear that is one of the largest man-made objects on the planet including Solaris, Shevat, Babel Tower and Merkava. The Gear was hidden in Nortune by Roni Fatima, the founder of Aveh, and disguised as the city's central administrative building. Its true intention was uncovered by Bart sometime in Disc Two after the truce between Aveh and Kislev was declared. When the Yggdrasil IV was activated, using Yggdrasil III as its command center, it rose from its dock in Nortune and transformed into a massive Gear. It fought against Ft. Hurricane and was later used to destroy the second Merkava, unfortunately the massive Gear was destroyed in the process. This gear is an obvious homage to the SDF-1 Macross, the titular ship of the Macross series, and is in fact referred to as "Super Dimensional Fortress Yggdrasil IV".

[edit] Vehicles

[edit] Eldridge

10,000 years before the plot of Xenogears, this massive colony ship was commissioned by the Galaxy Federation. The dimensions of this ship are incredible, and it can be seen in the opening sequence of the game. After the Federation created the powerful Zohar Modifier, they experimented in linking it to the ultimate weapon, the "Yahweh" Interplanetary Invasion System. This led to disaster, and the project was deemed too powerful and dangerous to continue. It was decommissioned, and both the Zohar and Deus (the central core of the Yahweh system) were stored in its central core. This was the major purpose of the starship. It was then set to leave Federation space to no longer threaten the rest of human civilization.

On the journey, however, Deus became aware of the situation and in self-defense, attempted to take control of the ship. Although the crew attempted to stop Deus from spreading to different sectors, the weapon was found to be too powerful. Therefore, to prevent Deus from being unleashed upon open space, the captain activated the self-destruct sequence which destroyed the majority of the bridge and engine sections of the ship, which was orbiting above the planet in which Xenogears takes place. The remnants of the starship fell to the planet, along with Deus and the Zohar Modifier. As a result, Deus was heavily damaged and activated its regenerative program which created a human-entity. She set out to begin reproductive processes to create enough biological tissue to repair Deus, birthing Cain, the members of the Gazel Ministry, the first incarnation of Miang and also the first incarnation of Elly before returning to the Kadomony stasis pod from which she was generated. Meanwhile, the Zohar was lost in the mantle of the planet.

There was only one survivor of the Eldridge, and that was Abel or the first -Contact-, labelled so due to his contact with the Wave Existence, a hyperdimensional being imprisoned within the Zohar Modifier. The Modifier's attempt to answer Abel's desperate longing for his mother during the destruction of the ship resulted in the eventual creation of Elly - it is due to this intervention on the Wave Existence's behalf that Elly, like Abel, retains her memories throughout the generations.

Virtually all the technology seen in Xenogears was a part of the Eldridge, including all the gears with the exception of the Xenogears itself. Examples of Eldridge technology can clearly be seen elsewhere however, most notably Babel Tower and Ft. Jasper. Babel Tower is actually the massive main section of the ship which impacted the planet directly perpendicular to the surface. Ft. Jasper is one of the levitating laser cannons seen active during the opening sequence.

Lastly, the floating island of Mahanon (known as paradise, or god's resting place) which is seen late game is the central core of the Eldridge that still housed the Deus core. After the destruction of the Eldridge, this crashed into the sea.

[edit] Ezekiel

A large black and red flying craft with an unusual design. The Captain of the Thames facetiously referred to as a "fish bowl" when commenting on its design. It served as the home base for Krelian when he was away from Solaris and the headquarters of Solaris' true government, the Gazel Ministry. The Ezekiel is seen several times during the game, primarily in the Aquvy region. Its primary components, like Krelians Lab and the SOL-9000 chamber are later merged with Merkava in Disc 2.

[edit] Goliath

A large-scale propeller-powered flying battleship built by the Kislev Empire. Resembling a colossal World War II-era bomber, the Goliath was intended to be Kislev's ultimate weapon. Once it was completed it was going to be used to bomb the capital of Aveh, Bledavik into submission and end the war that had been raging between the two nations for 100 years. This never did happen because Fei Fong Wong and his party broke into the factory where the ship was being constructed and stole the ship right out of its berth. They were hoping to use it to escape Kislev and fly back to Aveh to reunite with Bart and the crew of the Yggdrasil. Unfortunately Bart, now prowling the oceans off of Ignas in the Yggdrasil II saw the Goliath coming out of Kislev territory and heading right for Aveh he attacked it and shot it down. Bart had no idea that his friends were actually onboard, all he saw was Kislev's new super weapon flying towards Aveh and he assumed it was on its way to carry out a bombing mission. The Goliath was obliterated by the special "Bart Missile" fired from the Yggdrasil and its wreckage crashed into the ocean. When Bart and his crew investigated the crash site they discovered Citan, Rico and Hammer floating amongst the debris and Bart realised he had made a very big mistake. Another large piece of debris carrying Fei and Elly drifted for several days and wound up in the Aquvy region in the southern world and was salvaged by the Thames.

[edit] Merkava

Originally designed as a mobile fortress capable of interplanetary travel for the Yahweh interstellar attack system, it along with the rest of the Deus components are heavily damaged when the Eldridge crashlands on the planet where the game takes place. It sports antigravity drives that enable flight through rotation of the main conical body of the craft and a single massive energy cannon with extreme range and quick refire capability. Point defense is carried out by the Diabolos Gears/Seraph Angels.

[edit] Thames

The Thames is a rather large, oceangoing vessel commanded by an eccentric walrus-like demihuman known only as the Captain. It sports a main deck with active cranes and specialized diving gears. The entire Thames community thrives off salvage jobs from around the world. Although the Thames and its fleet survive an onslaught of Wels sent by the Ethos, it is later destroyed by Merkava's main cannon.

[edit] Yggdrasil

The first Yggdrasil is an enormous sand submarine stolen from Aveh and operated by Bartholomew Fatima and his crew of Sand Pirates. It includes living quarters, a lounge with a bar, and a Gear Hangar. Fei Fong Wong meets Bart and acquires use of the Yggdrasil for travel and shopping shortly after leaving Lahan.

After the original Yggdrasil sinks, a second nearly identical ship is discovered beneath the sands of the Ignas desert. This Yggdrasil is capable of moving on water, as well as in sand. This allowed Bart, and later the rest of the party to explore a vastly wider area of the world than previously possible. Because it is the second Yggdrasil which Bart has commanded he names it the Yggdrasil II. The Yggdrasil II is equipped with special surface-to-air missiles, unsurprisingly dubbed "Bart Missiles" by Bart. Bart uses them to shoot down the Goliath, but he is unaware that his friends are aboard the Kislev airship when he opens fire. The ship is later pushed to its limits when the party mounts a daring assault against the submerged Sargasso Gate. Finally, when the party manages to reach Shevat by going through Babel Tower, the Yggdrasil II is brought Shevat itself and is fitted with a special extension that allows it to fly.

After the party reaches Shevat, the Yggdrasil II is adapted to be able to fly and is renamed to the Yggdrasil III. The attachments that enable the ship to fly, as well as the ship itself were designed by Roni Fatima, Bart's ancestor and were stored away in Shevat for safe keeping until the time was right. With the Yggdrasil now flight capable it could no longer float in the water or on the sand, however its operating range had increased dramatically. With the Yggdrasil III in their possession there was literally nowhere on the planet that Bart, Fei and their friends could not go, except Solaris.

Yggdrasil IV is a battlecruiser that transforms into a massive gear with extremely powerful attacks. It was found by Roni Fatima and was disguised as the Nortune Administrative Building (hence the structure's awkward shape). When the Yggdrasil III docked with the structure it activated its true systems, left dormant for over 500 years and allowed it to transform into its true form. The Yggdrasil IV, so named by Bart was meant to be a symbol of friendship and co-operation between Aveh and Kislev and required a piece of technology from both countries in order to properly activate it. The deeper meaning of the machine was lost with time and even further muddled by the war, however when Aveh and Kislev joined together in peace its true purpose was unlocked again.

Like many things in Xenogears, the Yggdrasil IV is an obvious nod to a pre-existing anime archetype. It is designed very similar to the Macross from the anime of the same name. It is also introduced in its one and only battle as the Super Dimension Gear Yggdrasil IV. The Macross is described as a "Super Dimension Fortress".
