[edit] "Chapter of The Black Wolf"
[edit] Picture Book
- "Demon beasts called Horrors lived in the darkness
- This story is about a Makai Knight who cuts down the Horrors
- You better not look away" - Zaruba
The owner of the art gallery, Taisuke Taniyama, heard a woman's laughter in the storage area. As he walked around trying to find the voice, he finds a portrait of a beautiful naked woman in white skin and green hair. As he admired the beauty of the work, the woman within the portrait came out of the frame and asked the owner did he like beautiful woman. He nodded in agreement and the Horror said, "Then you're the same is me." The Horror possessed the owner. A brief image of a man is training with a sword in a leather skin outfit.
The scene moves to Kaoru talking about herself. She sees her younger self reading a picture book titled, "The Black Flame and The Golden Wind." The book shows a golden knight fighting off demonic creatures, but the last page is blank. As she looks at the last page, Horrors appear everywhere to hurt her, then a golden knight appears and saves her, she wakes up in her apartment. She ties up her hair and goes back to finishing an art exhibit poster. She finished the poster and taping it to the wall of the gallery while talking to the owner. The owner/Horror had taken a liking to Kaoru and pulled her near the storage area to help him finish something. As he pulled her, she resisted as she felt something off. She sensed danger and sees the image of Horror fangs after her. She apologized to the owner and ran off in chills. Kaoru wasn't sure why she felt so afraid.
Kaoru is now with her psychologist, Ryuuzaki Karune, talking about the very dream she had in the morning. She wondered about the golden knight and the blank page by her late father's work. Ryuuzaki Karune asked if she had the book, but she said there are no original copies left. He said the book is the key, but it's also possible the book is the figment of her imagination. She goes on to say she's not confident in her first art exhibition and Ryuuzaki Karune commented the monsters she sees might be caused from anxiety.
A girl in her twenties is complaining about Kaoru's art work. She claims her work is only interference. The owner suggested they go somewhere to talk and "dine." She resisted and the owner said, "I'm starved." The Horror reveals his face as he sucks the girl into his mouth.
Kouga just finished his training when Gonza gives him a new orders document. The document said that a Horror is feeding on human pride shall be cut down immediately. Kouga then goes off to the art gallery around twilight of the day. As they approach the gallery, Zaruba senses a strong presence of evil. Kouga encounters Kaoru, not sure if she's possessed he shoves her to the wall. He holds her down and uses his Madoubi to see if there's any dark presence inside of her. Her pupils have no reaction besides fear and runs to the owner thinking Kouga's an attacker of some sort.
The owner appears and Kaoru runs behind him for safety. Kouga said he was looking for someone, but got the wrong person. Kouga then says he's interested in buying one of the paintings and Kaoru totally forgotten the "attack" for a sale. The owner said the art sale was tomorrow, but he'll allow Kouga to buy now. Kouga liked Kaoru's painting of a night green field over a cottage. He wrote down his address to Kaoru and wanted it delivered immediately over night (to distract her away from the Horror). He wanted to see more beautiful paintings and the owner took him to the back for more to look. It was here Kouga saw the empty canvas and asked about it. The owner said it was always blank, but then asked was it eaten or was it the owner that was eaten. The owner turned around and Kouga had his Madoubi fired close to his eyes, his pupils reacted and quickly jumped away from Kouga.
The Horror then locked-down the building, all doors and even the paintings were stuck. Zaruba identified the Horror as "Anglay" who devours women. Zaruba goes on to say that Anglay probably used an evil picture as a gate to cross over. Anglay is also a trap user and able to bring paintings to life. The paintings of scarlet warriors appeared and attacked Kouga, but defeated all of them. The Horror told Kaoru that he called the police, but was surprised that Kouga survived his trap. He now knows he's dealing with a Makai Knight and fought him hand-to-hand combat while spitting acid. The Horror lost and burst out of his human skin to take refuge in a painting. Kouga used his Madoubi again to detect the location of the Horror. He told Kaoru to run for it as the Horror came out of his second form.
Kouga then transformed into GARO. Kaoru was shocked to see the golden knight in her dreams is real. GARO's armor shielded most of the acid attacks and GARO threw himself towards the horror and cut him in half, killing it. However the Horror's blood splashed over Kaoru's face and arm. GARO drew his sword at her asking her why she didn't run. He said "Those showered in the blood of a Horror must be cut down. That's the rule." Kaoru fainted and he carried her home. He told Zaruba he'll be using her as Horror bait to help make his hunting easier.
Kaoru woke up, thinking it was a dream. Kouga corrected her and said everything occurred for real and told her he won't kill her. She was upset that Kouga entered her home without permission, but Kouga said he carried her home was met with suspicion. He said Kaoru was surprisingly heavy and she took offense by that. Kouga mentioned her outburst is a good sign she's well. She blamed him for making her life a mess because that art exhibit was supposed to give her a chance to be noticed as an accomplished artist. Kouga told her he didn't mean to, but did intend to buy her painting as it reminds him of a town he grew up in. He walked away with the painting, but Kaoru realized he never paid for it. The scene ends Kaoru commenting that this is the beginning of a new knight's legend.
[edit] Yin Self
In a junkyard a man and woman (Kujo Azusa) talk about business. The man wanted his two million yen back from the woman's IT company. She said she'll give it back in a year as the IT stocks are doing very well and can make twentyfold next year. He did some investigating and accused her of running a false company. She told him that he's a well paid doctor and two million isn't anything. Apparently they were ex-lovers as she commented it's a way to hurt her after they broke up. A struggle between then started, but the woman elbowed the guy as she walked away. Her leg was trapped while over the shadow of a scarecrow of chains and a Horror jumped into her body before the doctor got back up. The doctor thought her scream was weird and she commented she was hungry. She eyes and mouth opened chains that entered his body and tore him apart as she ate him.
Kaoru woke up commenting to herself she had another bad dream (unclear if it's about Horror or not). Her landlord wanted rent money, but she waited until he left. As she left with her bike she was surprised he's still waiting on her and she ran away in her bike to work. She's currently working as a melon bread salesgirl to make ends meet and saw Kouga walking down the street. She tries to go after him, but loses him in the park. Kouga opened a secret doorway to meet with the watchdogs to purify his blade.
The Watchdogs given him an orders document. The message states a Horror which preys on people's attachment to money will appear near the chain gate. They also reminded him of his duty to cut down Kaoru as she's stained in Horror's blood and not to be too attached to her. He left and Kaoru caught him outside the park. Kouga grabbed her hand and put a Madou ring onto her finger and he said it's a present to her. Kaoru said they don't have that sort of relationship, but Kouga was dense over the matter and wasn't sure what was she talking about. As he left she said he never paid her for the painting, but Kouga said he will soon.
At night a young woman had given Kujo investment money for IT company, but threw the money away. The young woman was confused and freaked when she saw her Horror face. She tried to run to her car, but she was too fast and ran for it. Kujo ate her by unleashing chains from her mouth and ripped the woman to shreds, eating her remains on the chains. Kouga arrived too late to save the girl. Kouga found money lying around and commented "Adding up money to get eaten (pun-increase and eaten are the same)." Zaruba asked Kouga if he had any interested in money since it's been the ultimate drug since ancient times. Kouga said "No interest", but that's because he's rich so money was never an issue in his life. Zaruba commented "You rather have that woman than money, eh?", Kouga had not comment and walked.
Kaoru was sitting at a park with her best friend Asami. Kaoru just finished a small art job for Asami and assure she'll pay Kaoru when she gets paid. Kaoru was still agonizing over money and Asami mentioned Kujo's investment plans that could return her money twenty times the investment money. Kaoru couldn't resist and attended the IT business proposal Kujo was doing. Kaoru asked Kujo if there was a minimum investment on money and she said $100,000 yen. Kaoru couldn't pay that much, but Kujo was drawn to her since she was splashed in Horror's blood. She enticed Kaoru by telling her she'll give her a special discount of $50,000 for Kaoru's money problem. Kaoru was overjoyed and said she'll produce the money to her over night. Asami helped Kaoru by giving her an advanced loan, but had a concerned look in her face.
Kouga and Zaruba are now in front of the business building. Zaruba detected Kaoru within distance, she was paying off her $50,000 yen to Kujo and left for the elevator. Kujo wanted to eat Kaoru in the elevator, but Kouga appeared and they fought throughout the building. Their fight eventually got serious in the parking lot. Kouga wanted the money back for Kaoru since the money is the key to her dreams. Kujo threw the money to the floor and engaged Kouga. Kujo transformed into her Horror form, Ishutarb, and flung a car at Kouga with her chains. He transformed into GARO and split the car in half as he dashes towards her. She tried to use her chains to bind GARO, but GARO broke free and cut her down.
The following day Kaoru saw the news that Kujo Azusa was suspected of fraud. Kaoru was worried over her money, but Kouga appeared and given back her money. Kaoru wanted to know whatever happened to Kujo, he said she was a Horror and had to be cut down. Kaoru wanted to know why Horrors existed. Kouga said they have existed since ancient times and attacks people with evil or foolish hearts. Kaoru asked was she targeted because she had a corrupt heart, but Kouga said her heart was pure. She wanted to know the meaning behind the ring and Kouga said it is protective charm (Madou ring, tracking device and horror detector). The episode ends with Kaoru wondering why Kouga saved her life.
[edit] Clock
Kouga is checking the time with Zaruba for sunset. Zaruba detected something in an alley and Kouga leaps off the building. Meanwhile two brothers (or friends, not clear because aniki=brother is common term to say to real brothers and good friends) found a watch in the subway stairs. Hirasawa wore the watch commenting how his father had a watch like this when he was young, suddenly the watch had six arms and punctured him. He was in agony for a bit and eventually turned to dust in front of his brother (or friend). He freaked and ran for it, but Kouga had to catch him to see if he was a horror. Kouga let him off and investigated over the strange powder left behind the dead body.
Kaoru is now working for a bike delivery service. While late and lost, she commented how since she was twelve, she planned on having her first art exhibition at 20 and get married to a rich man by 25. At age 22 she feels she's lost a lot of time.
Meanwhile Kouga is purifying his sword and inquire about the strange way a victim fell. The watchdogs criticized how the man who holds the title of GARO would allow a Horror escape. He gave a remains sample of the victim and the Watchdogs said it's the work of Morax. After further research at home, Gonza found out more info for Kouga regarding this Horror. It's a Horror that takes the form of time (clocks). Gonza mentions in ancient records that Morax wiped out an entire village in one night. This is Kouga's first time taking on a Horror that has no human form, but a mechanical one.
Kaoru received new orders from his boss to a pickup job. She was amazed it was a mansion, but was surprised it was the Saejima estate. Kouga had nothing for Kaoru to deliver, but to tell her to stay away from clocks and not wear clocks for the remaining day. Kaoru works for a delivery service that requires punctuality, but Kouga tells her it's for her own sake. He tells Kaoru to be close to him as possible from now on, but mistaken the comment as a forceful way to have her in a romantic relationship. Zaruba reminds Kouga it's close to sunset. Kaoru wanted to know where the voice came from and was shocked to see a talking ring. Zaruba told Kaoru that the ring is a part of him. It showed a flash back of Zaruba vomiting a piece of himself to the table. It squirms like an insect and hardens into a ring. Kaoru thought that was disgusting and tries to remove the ring again. Zaruba tries to explain the ring helps detect her and keep her from danger, but she wouldn't hear it and flicked him. Kaoru is upset she can't remove the ring in her finger and says he's in the way of her dreams to make it big. She intends to get a bigger mansion than the Saejima estate. Kouga wants her to stay in the guest room for the remaining day to be safe and had Gonza pay her delivery fee as compensation.
In a school a high school girl named Ayano found Morax thinking it is a lucky charm for her. With the Horror attached to her she was able to run faster than anyone on the tracks. While changing her clothes with her classmates, she started laughing uncontrollably and freaked everyone when she turned to dust. Kouga walked in too late to save Ayano, but he cut down the three girls wrist watches in case Morax possessed another girl. While telling the girls to run, Morax had taken hold of another girl and jumped out of the window while Kouga takes pursuit. Meanwhile Kaoru was taking a delivery for Ryuuzaki Karune, it was a draft for a new book.
Kouga chased the girl near a bridge and fought until a truck rammed and damaged the body of the girl. Morax couldn't fight with the girl's injuries, but used the girl's body as a hostage and mocking Kouga for trying to save people. Morax jumped the edge with Kouga trying to save the girl. While falling, Morax transformed into a gold watch waiting for another victim to come. It's not clear did the girl survive, but Kouga helped absorb most of the impact rolling down a staircase. A middle aged woman sees the golden watch and puts it on, but Morax takes control of her and fights again. Kouga was unable kill the woman and Morax knows it. While pinned down Morax escaped to the sewers and arrived where Kaoru was nearby. After several misses, Morax had taken Kaoru hostage and used an old clock tower as his body.
He greeted Kouga and told him he's the first Makai Knight to enter a Horror's body. Morax said he'll enjoy devouring Kaoru and Kouga engaged Morax. Morax is able to use the various gears in the structure was bladed weapons. Morax told Kouga to leave and let him have Kaoru since she doesn't have long to live, but Kouga believes she has the right to live to the very end. He transforms into GARO and cuts through the various blades. He cut Morax's head in half, ripping out the basic Horror form of Morax and killing it.
With Morax dead the building fell apart and Kouga carried the unconscious Kaoru to safety. Kaoru woke up to her surprise in Kouga's arms again and demanded to be let go. Kouga dropped her and gave back her watch. Kaoru wanted to know what Kouga wants from her, but no time to demand answers as she's running late for her delivery. The episodes ends with Kaoru running late and thinking she has no time left to fulfill her dreams, realizing there are obstacles in her way.
[edit] Dinner
A patient is thanking Dr. Tategami for saving his life. He's very happy and calls the doctor a god. The doctor only wants happiness for his patients and was offered a bento (lunchbox). The patient said it's his wife's family specialty and drops it off. As he leaves he feels something strange behind him and looks back. The doctor has strange thin tentacles with scalpels, needles, and various sharp objects coming out the back of his head. The patient screams, but the doctor/Horror used his tentacles to pick him up and rip his body to pieces on a dining table behind a wall. As the doctor look over the various body parts, he found something to his liking and began sucking the fluids out. After he was done he told the nurses/Horrors to clean up. The nurses/Horrors feasted on what was left of the body. Kouga and Zaruba are investigating the very hospital the man was killed, but Zaruba can't seem to detect anything out of the unusual. Kouga decided to come back later at night and left.
Kaoru has been evicted and moved all of her stuff from her old apartment to Asami's place. Asami wanted to know what happened and they show a flashback of her hrs ago. Her landlord wanted rent money and ask her to leave if she can't pay the rent in a struggling nice manner. Kaoru said she needed time and help since the stuff was too heavy and the landlord was eager to help her move. He looked at the wall and noticed it's been painted over with beautiful flowers. Kaoru asked if he liked it since the wall was tasteless before and the landlord scolded her to get out. Asami didn't like the fact Kaoru just forcefully moved in, freeloading her, and worries that Kaoru's painting habits will keep her up at night. Kaoru made something for Asami to eat to cheer her up in the situation, but got really sick on the first bite.
Asami is now in the ER of the Horror-filled hospital for medical treatment. Kouga is also at the scene doing further investigation. Zaruba is concerned because he can't sense anything at all in the building. As a Madou Ring he's able to sense many things, but completely nothing suggest there's a power blocking his senses. As Kouga walked through the staircase he's passed by the doctor and suspected he's a Horror. He took out his Madoubi to confirm his suspicions, but the Madou Fire didn't light up. Kouga was surprised since that never happened before and tried lighting again, but a nurse stopped him saying it's a non-smoking area. As Pazuzu and his nurses walked down the hallway, the wife of the man he ate last night appeared. She introduced herself a Sawara and wanted to know the whereabouts of her husband since Dr. Tategami was the last person he spoke to before he disappeared. He left her with no answers and Kouga goes to speak with her.
Kouga asked her more about Dr. Tategami and she told him that he saved her husband's life. It's said his healing capabilities are god-like and he always does his surgery alone without the peering eyes of others. However Sawara was worried when she heard an awful rumor that those who are cured by Dr. Tategami also died shortly after their discharge. She wanted to go on with the story of her missing husband, but Kouga left to face the doctor while he was in the middle of surgery.
Kouga wanted to know why a Horror would save lives since they devour humans. The Horror possessing the doctor, Pazuzu, didn't like the word "devour" as he prefers to call them "delicacies". He goes on to tell Kouga that he enjoys the flavor of his meal when they are eaten at a state of happiness. It's when they are happy that they are filled with positivity for life and Pazuzu prefers is victims devoured that way. He also defended his methods by comparing them to the preparation of Veal and other meats. Kouga tried to take on Pazuzu, but all the staff members are Horrors. He tried to transform into GARO, but his armor can't be called. The Horrors fought with Kouga outside the hospital and Zaruba realized there's a barrier affecting Makai powers. Zaruba pointed out that the weather vane and Kouga realized there are magical parchments surrounding the roof top. Kouga was beaten and Zaruba suggested falling back since it's 5 to 1. Kouga tried to burn them with his Madoubi, but the five Horrors are standing right behind the barrier and shield them from the Madou Flames.
While Kaoru is enjoying Asami's comfortable bed, Asami is still very sick in the hospital "cursing" Kaoru. Meanwhile Kouga went to the watchdogs to have his Madoubi recharged. Zaruba wanted to know if he has a plan and he suggested Kaoru to do the mission. Zaruba has his doubts since Kouga barely made it out of the hospital. As they were consolidating their options, Sawara and her son are behind him. Sawara's son believes his dad will return to them. Kouga walks up to the boy and tells him to be strong. Kouga has a flashback of his own father's death and was fueled with anger to return to the hospital.
In the hospital, Kaoru is preparing some food for Asami; she's reluctant to eat anything from her since Kaoru's food landed her in the hospital in the first place. While peeling an apple, Kaoru cuts herself and Pazuzu senses the smell of Horror's blood on her. He offers to help bandage her cut and give her a free examination. Kaoru jumped at the chance since she's broke. As Kaoru walks down the stairs Kouga forcefully drags her outside the hospital walls and shows her the weather vane. He asked her a favor to help remove the tokens. Since she's been splashed with horrors blood, it makes her immune to Horror's barrier. Pazuzu appears and wants to have Kaoru as a meal, but Kouga tells her to run off and remove the tokens, a battle ensues and Pazuzu fights in his true Horror form. Pazuzu recognizes Taiga Saejima from Kouga's fighting style. He said that there were rumors that Taiga was devoured by Horrors slowly. Kouga only reacted with more anger after he said that.
Kaoru was being pulled down by a nurse/Horror and managed to kick the nurse/Horror off the roof. She then ripped off the tokens and Kouga was able to become GARO. While fighting Pazuzu wanted Kouga to understand that he's done his victims a favor by allowing them to die at their highest state of happiness. Kouga responded in anger, "People who are killed don't feel joy! No! I refuse to accept that!" GARO then used his Madoubi to blaze his sword. Willing the Madou Flames into an X-cross the flames then surrounded GARO in mid-air for Blazing Armament. GARO then fired the flames with GAROKEN to severely weaken Pazuzu. Pazuzu wanted Kaoru for a last meal, but Kouga finished him with a final blazing slash. Kouga retracted his armor and was weakened. Kaoru went to see if Kouga was OK, he said he was starved and Kaoru chuckled. Kaoru's inner thoughts consider Kouga as a mysterious man, but his emotional outburst with Pazuzu was mixed with sadness and anger made him more human. Scene ends with Kouga and Kaoru leaving together.
[edit] Moonlight
Kouga is walking down a busy commercial area during night. As the scene shows Kouga walking, various voices of girls are talking over the phone about the urban legend of a golden wolf and Horrors. While some say the golden wolf ate a woman's hand, one girl accounts she was saved by it. Some challenged it, while some added on more things they experienced or heard from. The scene takes a teenage girl talking over the cell about rumors of Horrors possessing people around town when she was kidnapped by a strange man in glasses and dropped her phone behind.
At the Saejima household, Kaoru is making Gonza hold an uncomfortable pose for her to sketch. Kouga returns home from his hunt and was surprised Kaoru is in the guest room. Kaoru bows down and said "Welcome Home", but Kouga was not amused and wanted to know why she moved in without permission. Kaoru reminded Kouga that he once told her to "From now on you will stay as close to me as possible", with that in mind he couldn't argue his way out of that one. He wanted Kaoru to at least work to earn her keep in the mansion. Kaoru makes a dish for Kouga to eat, but Kouga was suspicious of it and had Gonza ate it. Gonza immediately got sick and ran nauseous. Kouga tried it anyway and thought it was terrible. He got up and simply said "I suppose your face resembles my mother's..." and walked off.
Kaoru is in her room thinking again. She said her mother never taught her to cook. She didn't have a happy childhood and her parents died when she was young, she feels often alone because of that. She always had misunderstandings and disagreements with family and ex-boyfriends. She thinks it's even worse with total strangers living in the same house. As she's thinking all of this, she starts sketching Kouga on canvas while listening to the radio. It was about a pharmacist Morino Shitoshi suspected of murdering Sagashi Reiko.
The scene takes to Morino Shitoshi taking the kidnapped girl to a warehouse with a poisoned needle. He assures he won't harm the girl and was about to explain himself, but a cop busted through the door. He came to arrest Morino, but he still holds the girl hostage. Morino apparently knows this cop (Hanesawa) when they were high school classmates. Morino insists he didn't kill Reiko and that his arresting is merely an old grudge. The cop/classmate told him he always used that excuse, but he retorted saying he was always pushy and judgmental. The scene switches to Kouga receiving an orders document from the watchdogs over another Horror. Back to the warehouse, Morino revealed he dated Reiko and said he never killed Reiko because he had no motive. The cop pulls out a gun and Morino tightens his grip to the girl. The girl says to let her go since she has nothing to do with this and don't wish to be involved. As cop sets his aim, he sees a shadowy figure almost hovering behind Morino. Morino then saw a waving hand right behind the cop and all three are now spooked.
Meanwhile Kouga and Zaruba investigates around the warehouse area over an object becoming a gateway for a Horror to come out, they were too late. Nearly two hours ago a Horror already passed through the gateway. Kouga finds a woman's bag and Zaruba confirms there are afterthoughts of a woman here. Zaruba pointed out it's a famous place for committing suicide. They surmise that the woman had dark thoughts and attracted the Horror to her. Kouga finds a moth flying and Zaruba confirmed it was the spiritual remains of the dead woman's thoughts. Zaruba was able to read its thoughts to Kouga saying, "I don't want to die by becoming a monster. Cut off my Yin self." The moth led Kouga to the warehouse.
Meanwhile the Morino, the Hanesawa, and high school girl are no longer at a stand, but trying to get out. Morino told Hanesawa not to pursue him after they leave the area, but he claims there's no proof of his innocence. Morino reminded Hanesawa it's his job to find out. The high school girl reminded the guys of their predicament of a dead girl in the area. A short scene shows that the watchdogs are aware that at 1:30AM a full moon will appear and the Horror Lunarken will devour people at that time.
At a harbor area, Kouga is still following the black moth and Zaruba told Kouga that they're dealing with Lunarken. Zaruba warns Kouga that she remains in the host body until a full moon appears. She's known for cruelty and quite the glutton. He has one hour left to find the Horror. Inside the abandoned warehouse, the three are now freaking out as Lunarken controls the girls dead body. No matter how much the men try to fight Lunarken, she over powers them. Interestingly the girl was knocking her down with wooden board.
Kouga is now outside the warehouse and Zaruba told him there are two problems. There's a barrier around the area and there are three people with Lunarken. Makai Knights can't expose themselves publicly so Kouga used a Makai token to incapacitate the people. Lunarken has taken her true form (spinning orb and a ghastly fairly girl) and used an energy orb to attack Kouga. The orb can change into a spiked ball and continued to attack Kouga. He tries to cut Lunarken, but she shielded herself with a fairy wing-like barrier. Kouga transformed into GARO and Zaruba told him that the lunar orb is the true Horror. He points GAROKEN into the lunar orb and it injured Lunarken. As she was dying she said, "This man...doesn't understand a woman's anger or suffering..." GARO replied, "Looks like I'm a man who just won't understand a woman's heart." GARO twists the blade and it destroys Lunarken. Zaruba commented the girl probably had a Yin-self due to man troubles. Zaruba finds human relationships interesting that way, but it is nonsense to Kouga.
At home Kaoru asks Gonza when is he going to stop being in a bad mood, but Gonza told her to refer that aspect of him as being "cool." She doesn't want such a flattering term used on him and calls Kouga a weird person. Gonza tells her to understand that Kouga lost parents at a young and the only family is he, the butler. Gonza hopes for her understanding, but Kaoru wants to know why he drew GAROKEN at her. Gonza knew the answer, but didn't want to say anything. He rather have Kouga tell it to her someday. Meanwhile back the three, they find themselves in a taxi where the radio just said Reiko was killed by an alarmed burglar and that Morino was innocent of charges. Morino was happy over the matter and the high school girl made a phone call to her friend. She said that she lost her phone, but when mentioning things regarding Horrors she doesn't recall anything about it.
[edit] Beauty
Kouga was hunting Horrors at a local cemetery while Zaruba was reciting Makai Psalm #30. The Horror escaped deeper into the cemetery and Kouga was attacked by sharp weapon. He put the weapon away and pursued the Horror. A middle aged prostitute named Kotomi was beating up a man and hurting two younger girls inside the cemetery for their money. After taking their wallets, they ran for it. Kouga used the Madoubi to see if she's possessed, but she's not. She was upset thinking Kouga was coming on to her, but then he left. It was after he left, she was possessed.
Early morning Kaoru was off to a new job and wanted Gonza to be her model again when she gets back, Gonza reacted with anxiety. Kouga just entered the door as Kaoru was about to leave and found his hand bleeding. Kouga had Gonza bring out the Reverter to help heal his hand. Kaoru couldn't find a first aid kit and tries to spit booze on his hand to help him with the wound, but Kouga pushed the bottle and she drank it down instead. The Reverter already fully healed his hand and Kouga went to see the watchdogs inquiring blade. Kouga flung it and Kodoma grabbed it before it hit the three. The three identified the blade as "The Dagger of Haja" and that only Makai Knights would use such a weapon.
Kotomi didn't feel well and in the bathroom the Horror helped revert into to a younger and beautiful version of herself. She easily got the attention of all the men in the bar and enticed one. As she waited outside the man was very turned on and started kissing her leg and warned him she'll send him to hell. He liked the idea of that and she devoured him by sucking the energy out of his eyes and then crushing him into pieces.
Meanwhile Kaoru was at a park blaming Kouga for showing up at a job interview with a hangover. Suddenly two men tried to be friendly with Kaoru and she resisted. Suddenly Rei appears to defend her. The two men brought more friends and they carried pocket knives and try to cut Rei. However being a Makai Knight Rei easily beaten them all up and they ran for it. Rei tells Kaoru she's a cute girl, but thinks her scream would be better. She was alarmed by that comment, but then Rei suggested they should go on a future date at night and left. She was nervous over the job and called Ryuuzaki for some comfort and felt better after the call.
At the bar the pimp was disappointed to the prostitute at little money he got from her. Kaoru showed up and he approved her job. She immediately worked as a bartender and the prostitute taken her younger form once more. In between Kouga and Gonza was trying to figure out who's dagger did it belong to when Zaruba told Kouga that Kaoru was in danger. The scene switch back to the bar with the prostitute enticing her pimp into the bathroom, she absorbed him in the toilet. Kaoru walked in to tell her boss about a phone call, but saw her boss killed in front of her. She knew it was a Horror and ran for her life. The Horror gave chase to the harbor and Kaoru was at a dead end. Kouga appeared to save her, while fighting her, another dagger appeared and almost struck Kouga again. Rei showed up to fight along side with Kouga and told him they are in the same "profession." Kouga realized the dagger belonged to Rei and while fighting Kotomi/Horror threw the dagger at Kouga. Kouga intentionally deflected the dagger back at Rei to return a favor. Kotomi transformed into her true Horror form Utoque. Kouga then transformed into GARO and defeated the Horror Utoque/Kotomi. Kotomi asked for help, but GARO said it's impossible because once someone is possessed, they die with the Horror. She disintegrated and Rei introduced himself. Rei wonders if he even knows what he's after and then grabs Kaoru to suggest he's after her. He kissed her hand, she slapped him and ran behind Kouga. The scene ends with Rei walking away.
[edit] Silver Fang
Kouga reflects his experience with Rei as Gonza researches information regarding a Makai Knight at the western district. They surmise Rei is probably from the western district, but Gonza finds it odd there's no record of him in the Makai books. Kouga made arrangements for the Barankas fruit with Gonza and he heads out for his routine; Rei has been doing his job as several areas detected with yin objects has been all sealed by him.
Kouga and Zaruba was aware of his activities and Zaruba commented Rei has a tenacious will, but probably exhausted himself by now. Rei/Zero was weakened and needed a recharge. Kaoru just got a new job as a waitress and Rei just stopped where she was working for a table full of sweets. After eating all that cake, Kaoru was kind enough to help bandage a scratch on his face. He holds Kaoru's hands and asks why she is wearing Kouga's ring and is it because she likes him. She says "Of course not!" and excuses herself to her job. Silva reminds Zero that he has to cut Kaoru down since she's stained in Horror's blood. Zero attempts to kill Kaoru in the back entrance, but Kouga appeared and he walked off. The watchdogs predict that west and east knights will fight. Kouga had Gonza take Kaoru home.
In a rundown bar, Kouga tells Rei to leave Kaoru alone and his reasons are none of his business. Makai Knights have a law about killing those stained in Horror's blood, but Kouga didn't want to explain it to Rei. Rei had to pick a fight with Kouga by insulting Kouga's father. In between this time Gonza insisted Kaoru to stay at the household for the remaining day for her safety from Rei. The fought their way to outside a parking lot and near the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Coincidentally a Horror appeared and the three fought each other until the Horror pulled both into the sky in an attempt to drop them free fall. Kouga transformed first followed by Rei and simultaneously killed the Horror mid-air. This is the first introduction to ZERO The Silver Fang Knight.
They had approximately 90 seconds left and engaged each other while falling down in between the two towers. They used the side structure of the building to slow down their descent and in the end it was a tie breaker and the entire side between the two buildings have severe damages to the windows. Kouga made it home and Gonza assured him Kaoru is safe asleep in her bed. Meanwhile Rei is resting from in injuries outside the rain and Silva admitted that Kouga is strong as GARO. The scene ends with Rei slamming the wall while yelling in rage and frustration.
[edit] Ring
Misato Kosugawa was a serial killer that killed six men for their fingers. She's a local bartender and found her sixth victim with good piano skills. Using her beauty, she lures the unsuspecting men to their doom and keeps their fingers in a refrigerator. She just bought a new refrigerator for her to contain her fingers. The scene takes to Kouga training in the back.
Kouga is training with his sword and holds the famous GARO pose of his sword rubbing his left wrist. Kaoru was sketching his hand, but Kouga didn't tolerate her presence. He considered her doodling a nuisance and told her what he's doing isn't a joke. She angrily retorted her art work isn't a joke. Gonza tried to quell the situation by offering English tea, but both of them told Gonza to quiet. Gonza hid away and covered his ears for the argument. Kouga leaves in frustration while Kaoru is wondering why she hasn't been able to draw lately.
The scene takes to Misato checking in her collection of chopped fingers. Ryuuzaki was feature on the news as an expert to the killers mind. Ryuuzaki said on the radio that the killer is killing his/her victims for one finger to complete a set of hands. She has needs four more fingers to complete the set of hands. In a flashback it reveals that Misato had a lover that was gifted in music, but eventually lost his ability to play. His anger and depression drove him to suicide. Her painful memories drew a Horror, Moloch, from the shadows to possess her. The Horror didn't need to control her will since she's been killing already. If anything it enhanced her ability to kill with the powers of fire and ice. She killed her seventh victim by freezing him into pieces and her collecting his left index. The watchdogs commented she'll be targeting a left middle finger soon.
Asami is seen talking to Kaoru about her problems with Kouga, but then a man named Shouta wanted to spend some time with Asami. Kaoru told Asami to go on and she stayed with Misato. Misato talks to her of how artists are like ice, able to preserve an important aspect. While looking at her play she liked Kaoru's fingers, but couldn't act since Zero was sitting right behind. Kaoru got knocked out from all the drinking and Kouga appeared to save her. Misato distracted Kouga with an ice pick to escape, but fought in the train tracks. While binding GARO using ice and fire elemental rings, he was able to hear her painful past. GARO said her Yin has been frozen and he'll set her free. He kills Moloch using blazing armament and Misato's ring drops on the floor. Kaoru and Kouga gets back home and Kaoru is sketching his hands again as he naps at the couch.
Zaruba calls Kaoru for the first time and wonders about her sketching Kouga's hand. She said he's her only model to use, but Zaruba wonders is there's more behind what she said. Kouga wakes up and wants to see her work and says there's nothing special about his hands. After he leaves the room she said he's hands aren't dirtied. In the final scene Kaoru is thinking about important moments, Kouga, Rei, and her desire to draw something important.
[edit] Ordeal
Kaoru's in a school and looked over a painting. As she looks over a worn down mural goddess over the school wall she finds herself getting emotional over a painting she never saw before. Just then the Principal Yagi of the school came to talk with her to repair this worn down work. Kaoru's not confident to repair it and suggest someone else to do it, but Principal Yagi insists this job has to be done by her. She realizes it's her late father's work and was thinking over the matter. As they poured over the books of old school pictures, there was none that had a picture of the mural. Kaoru explains her reluctance to work on this project because of her poor impression of her father as a man who prioritizes work over family. Principal Yagi also related his personal feels over the matter because his father (former principal) also did the same thing. He told Kaoru that he looked hard for her and pleads her to restore the mural.
Kouga's doing is regular routine and purifying his sword into the wolf statue's mouth when the statue sucked him in. Kouga is now in an alternate Makai reality and shadow of Kouga appeared in the form of GARO. GARO tells Kouga that he's slayed his 100th Horror and has been granted the power to summon Gouten, but he must defeat him. Kouga wasn't interested and walked off, but GARO reminded him that Taiga experienced the same ordeal. Kouga turned around and fought GARO, but was defeated. The watchdogs notify Kouga of a Horror and GARO told him he'll wait for his return to finish his "ordeal."
Kouga walked into a construction yard and wondered the location of the Horror. Right in front of him the gigantic Horror Humpty appeared. It transformed from an armored pod into an armored warrior. Kouga summoned his armor and tried to use GAROKEN to cut down Humpty, but the Horror's armor was too thick and pushed GARO away. Humpty transformed into his armored pod form again and flew away. Kouga was surprised that GAROKEN can't even dent Humpty. Zaruba mentions his mental state also affected his ability to focus in battle.
At the Saejima household, Kouga is thinking about his ordeal while Kaoru goes on to question her dad's motives for doing a free paint job all by himself. She goes on to complain about him thinking he didn't care too much over her sick mother in her final days. She thinks her deceased mom probably also hates him for it as well. Gonza suggested she work on the project to understand her father's intentions. Gonza asked for Kouga's support in his suggestion, but he didn't want to get involve and walked off.
The scene splits back and forth with Kaoru repairing the mural and Kouga going through his ordeal. Kouga wanted to know what his father did to face his ordeal and Gonza gave him a regular metal sword and mentions that both his grandfather and dad used this in their ordeal. Regardless of the mundane weapon, he believes there must be a reason and goes off to face Shadow-GARO. On Kaoru's end she's trying to repair the damaged wall first and worked on the easy areas of the mural that can be restored. However she and the principal can figure out the top section. The mural features a woman lifting her hands into the sun, but unclear what sort of gesture the hand made. She tries to look into her past when her father was working on the project. Kaoru wanted her dad to see mom, but he's frustrating over his art work instead and ignores her. She younger self looks after her sickly mother and she can't help but get upset over the painful memory. Principal Yagi notices Kaoru is upset and she said can't continue restoring the mural anymore and heads home.
While at home, Gonza is waiting at the door for Kouga; Kaoru comes back home instead. Gonza tells Kaoru that Kouga is probably chasing something within him right now. Kaoru reflects on her personal feelings over Gonza's words...Kouga is still fighting Shadow-GARO and has yet to find an opening to attack him. Kaoru realizes Kouga isn't the kind of person that runs away from his problems, but face them head on. Kaoru realizes she must try to do the same and returned to the school to repair the mural.
Kaoru starts working on the painting as the scene splits back and forth showing Kouga still in his ordeal. Kaoru tries to work on various hand versions to see if it would fit the mural, but only in frustration. Then she remembered something when she was young when they had a small happy moment together as a family. Young Kaoru saw her mom waved her hand over a beaming sunlight and realized there was no real hand gesture to begin with, but a beaming light covering her hands. She realized that her father worked on this mural as the ultimate way to show his love for her mother. Kaoru finally understood that her father wasn't just a man who didn't care, but cared the most for her and her mother. Principal Yagi passed by to see the finished work and was pleased how it turned out.
Kouga is still fighting Shadow-GARO and Kouga wonders about his father using this regular sword. Just then he realizes perhaps it's his instincts he should trust and walked into a suicidal attack where both opponents hit each other. Kouga passed his ordeal and realizes the regular sword was used because GARO isn't a horror, but a shadow of his fears. Zaurba tells Kouga that Kaoru is in danger from Humpty and goes off to rescue her.
Kouga appeared just in time to transform into GARO and fight Humpty. GARO uses GAROKEN to mark a golden seal to ignite a powerful energy shock wave. In it's wake, Gouten appeared before Humpty. Kaoru saw Gouten while hiding and realized it's exactly the same image found her father's unpublished children's book. GARO then used Gouten to summon GARO-ZAN-BA and used it to cut down Humpty. After the battle Kouga looked over Kaoru's face and said "You look pretty today..." and began walking home. The scene ends with Kaoru wondering about the complement, but Kouga had no comment.
[edit] Doll
As a couple was getting cozy with each other near a theme park, a clown/horror (Asmody) appears entertaining them with two "talking" puppets in his hand. As they watch him in curiosity, he tells them to focus on his red nose and it created a hypnosis effect. The couple suddenly had the sensation to argue and fight, then as the argument heats up their friends come to see the commotion. Suddenly everyone had the sensation to pick a fight and everyone becomes very violent and laughed as they try to each other. In the aftermath, Asmody transformed the group into giant rubber balls and began swallowing them whole one after another.
The scene moves to Kaoru thinking back when she was young and the book her father worked on. She wonders how her father would create a book based on the things she's experiencing right now. As her younger self plays with a teddy bear, the bear came to life as monster and Kaoru woke up screaming. Kouga startled her because he was right next to her. He thought a Horror attacked her, but seeing how everything is fine he left her room. Kaoru told Kouga of her dreams of a golden knight and wonders why would it be featured in her father's work. Kouga tells her to ask her father, but she replied he's no longer alive. Kaoru insists she wants to know everything, but neither Kouga or Zaruba said anything and she left in frustration. Zaruba said it's probably Taiga that saved her father. Zaruba finds it an ironic fate that Kouga would save Kaoru since his father did the same thing for Kaoru's dad. He goes on to ask Kouga when he's going to tell Kaoru's stained blood condition, but haven't figured out a way to explain it to her.
Kaoru is now with Asami looking over archives of old published magazines and found an old ad of her father's book. She tracked down the woman who helped Yuuji Mitsuki (Kaoru's dad). She helped explain why her father's book was never published. The book had a blank page in the ending of the book and it didn't make sense to the publisher to promote a book such as that one. The lady was kind enough to hold on to Kaoru's teddy bear for over a decade and returns it to her. Kaoru was happy to see her teddy bear intact and in good condition. Meanwhile at the Eastern Watchdog Castle, Rei introduces himself to the watchdogs and voices out Kouga's unreliability. Rei has been punished for attacking Kouga and had to do both their duties for the day. The scene takes back to Kaoru telling her discoveries to Ryuuzaki. Kaoru then realized that she's running late for a new gig and ran off.
Asmondai attacked a business office. Everyone was laughing as they try to kill each other. Kouga walked in and was surrounded by the turned people and used Zaruba to dispel the hypnosis. Kaoru is now a mascot bunny and upset over new embarrassing suit. Kaoru later switches to a princess dress and the dirty manager wants her to dress as a playboy bunny. Kaoru resists his advances, just then Asumodi and Rei appeared. Asumodi hypnotized Kaoru and the manager to kill each other. Asmody thought he got Rei, but to his surprise he slashed off his two puppets. The destroyed puppets dispelled Kaoru and the manager. Rei engages Asmody and uses mime techniques to defend himself from Rei, but then he takes on his true form. In between his transformation Rei told Kaoru he's out to kill the Golden Knight and got close to her because of it.
Asmody at this point transformed into his full horror form, a giant clown. Kouga came and rescured Kaoru. Asmody questions Kouga for his determination to save humanity when they are full of falseness. Kouga still believes humanity should be protected. Rei appeared and fought with Asmoday, Kouga and Rei double-teamed on Asumodi and killed him by cutting down his clown red nose. Rei and Kouga looked at each other with animosity and parted ways. At home Kaoru is practicing to thank Kouga, Gonza sort of listened in and said Kouga stepped out. Kaoru found Kouga and wanted to know if Kouga was trying to tell her something last time in her bedroom, but Kouga said he was busy. The scene ends with Kaoru reflecting that she's understanding Kouga better and believes she may find out her destiny.
[edit] Game
A local prostitute is waiting for a customer and the horror Dantarian approaches her to play a coin game. Dantarian takes the form of a conman-gambler that entices people to play a coin game based on his rules. The coin is never on either hand and when they lose they have to hand over their soul. The girl tried to run for it, but Dantarian caught up to her and took her soul into the form of a gold coin. As he ate a piece of the coin, a chunk of her physical body was gone. As she screamed in fear her soul was fully eaten and the prostitute vanished.
At the Saejima household, Kaoru got invited to the popular Japanese game show "Money Park." Gonza was excited thinking Kaoru was going to ask him to be her game partner, but decided to invite Kouga instead. While Kouga was training Kaoru appeared showing Kouga the game invitation. Kouga wasn't interested and Kaoru got upset Kouga not going and suggest Rei might enjoy her company. He got annoyed and told her to go away. She leaves with a sad expression and thought, "I want the prize, but actually...I just wanted Kouga enjoying a game like a normal man. I still haven't seen Kouga smile...I wanted to see that." Kouga notice her sad expression, but keeps training.
Kaoru is sitting on a public bench feeling down when Dantarian approached her for a game of luck. She thought Dantarian was hitting on her, but he challenged her to his coin game. Kouga was receiving new orders when the three watchdogs asked him to play their Jenga-like game. Kouga wasn't interested since this game involves wagering life spans. Zaruba told Kouga that Kaoru is already in contact with Dantarian and he hurries off. Meanwhile Kaoru lost the game and her body was absorbed into the gold coin. Kouga was running towards her when he was approached by Rei.
Kouga tried to ignore Rei, but they fought again. Kouga wanted to know why he's after him and Rei told him he's after the destruction of the GARO title. Kouga was still confused as to his reasons and Rei mocked him for not even knowing why he's the target of his vengeance. Silva and Zaruba warned them both of the consequences of the watchdogs shortening their lives if they continue this so they parted ways.
Kouga arrived to see Dantarian alone. Dantarian challenged Kouga to a more complex game and Kaoru's soul as the stakes. Kouga first had to choose between and red and black door. Kouga picked the red door while the black door opened to the mouth of a horror. Kouga entered a game world where Dantarian staked Kaoru's soul and Kouga had to stake his. Kouga's soul has been turned into an orange fluid within a flask bottle. They had to play three rounds to win back three parts of Kaoru's soul. Kouga won all three rounds and Dantarian lost his patiences and fought him in his true horror form. Dantarian fought with Kouga and managed to get back Kaoru's soul and swallowed it. Dantarian attacked Kouga using coins. Kouga transformed into GARO and ripped it out from Dantarian's stomach. GARO cut him down, but before Dantarian died he set Kouga up one more game after his passing. It's a game to identify the real Kaoru's body out of hundreds. Kouga messed up on the first two attempts and had to get the last attempt right. He closed his eyes to focus and remembered Kaoru's sad expression they last saw each other. He picked the girl with that expression got the right Kaoru. Kouga then proceeded with a soul restoration ritual. He "drank" Kaoru's soul and then "kissed" her to restore her soul. She woke up realizing Kouga holding her. She suspected of Kouga kissing her, but he denied it. She felt like she was spirited away and Kouga had a small chuckle since that exactly what happened. Kaoru pointed out his laugh, be he denied it. Kouga wanted to go home, but Kaoru was too weak to follow. Zaruba told Kouga to allow her to rest since soul restoration can be stressful on the human body. The scene ends as they sat down on some stairs and Kaoru apologized for her trouble, Kouga gave a tiny smile and but back to his serious grin again.
[edit] Taiga
Kouga was training with internal energy with his sword. Zaruba criticized Kouga's strike was weak and Kouga put him on the table for him to train in peace. Gonza reflects on Kouga's growth and Zaruba agrees with his growth since he was young. A flashback scene takes to a young Kouga training in the beach coast with his father, Saejima Taiga. Taiga is doing the same routine Kouga was doing earlier, but able to blast out greater sword energy with his sword. It's the day Kouga began training with Soul Metal.
Taiga gave Kouga a piece of Soul Metal that resembles an old fashion floor scrapper. Soon as Kouga picked it, he dropped it to the ground from its immense weight. Taiga showed him Soul Metal reacts to the wielder's will and that it could be as light or heavy to the wielder's mind. Kouga also trained with Zaruba, using Zaruba's powers to create a false world for Kouga for target practicing with his Soul Metal. After practice, Taiga showed Kouga how to practice the Saejima family sword routine. Later in the night, Zaruba detected a horror within a crowded area and told Kouga to wait. Kouga waited at the commercial area until everyone went home for the night. Kouga was getting cold and bored, he decided to look over the toy display. While admiring the toys like a regular kid an old man was kind to offer a toy frog as a free gift. Young Kouga was happy to have a toy and played with it, but hidden the toy when Tai ga returned. As father and son was enjoy a fast food sandwich, Taiga sensed a horror. Taiga was engaging the very toy man that gave Kouga the toy earlier. When cornered, the old man pleaded with Kouga to convince Taiga he's not a bad person. Kouga took mercy and defended him, but to Kouga's surprised the old man taken him hostage. The horror mocked Kouga for his foolishness and used him as a shield. Taiga transformed into GARO and fought him off. The horror revealed himself as a red flying horror. GARO cut him down and Taiga slapped Kouga to the ground for being tricked by a horror. Kouga got himself up and realized to never desire objects again and ran back to his father's side.
After a long hiatus at home, Taiga and Kouga finally returned back to the Saejima estate. They had a real meal and Kouga was enjoying Gonza's company while reading a story to put him to bed. Later in the night Taiga was talking about Barago's path to darkness and he intends to find him. Taiga looked after Kouga one last time and left. Gonza left crying out to Taiga as he left. Gonza's pleading woke up Kouga to find his father gone. Kouga decided to follow his father through the forest and hidden behind the bushes. Taiga engaged Barago and was losing. Taiga transformed into GARO and tried to slay him, but dropped GAROKEN. Kouga came out of hiding to try to give GARKEN to Taiga, but wasn't strong enough to lift the sword. Barago charged at Kouga, but Taiga shielded Kouga. Barago managed to pierce through Taiga's chest and Kouga saw the face of a horror through Taiga's injury. Taiga used his gaunlet's blade to cut a cross on Barago's face, the mark of death. Barago fled while Taiga died from his mortal wound. Kouga cried over Taiga's body.
The following morning, Kouga tried to left GAROKEN out of the ground. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't lift the sword. Gonza tried to help by having a crane left it, but the chains broke the sword free. Kogua decided to take his Makai Knight training seriously and made bond with Zaruba. By bonding with Zaruba, Kouga was attacked with ghoulish spirits. Zaruba warned Kouga that this bond will attract malicious spirits, Kouga accepted those terms and began his training. The scene will show Kouga training and refining his technique for approximately twenty years. Kouga would try to lift GAROKEN many times over the course of the years and eventually he succeeded and became GARO. Returning to the moment his father died, Zaruba told Kouga to touch him to help convey Taiga's final thoughts. He told Kouga that he'll inherit the title of GARO and told him to be strong. It's now present day and Kouga finished his training. The scene ends with Kouga getting ready to head off to another horror hunt.
[edit] Promise
This is a special recap episode, narrated by Zaruba. This recap episode features information about the characters, the story, and the villains of the series that developed so far. The only new information is that Ryuuzaki Karune pays Kaoru for their sessions. The Horrors that appeared so far has also been named. The last bit of the episode shows GARO fighting Horrors on board a falling train. GARO lands on a cliff as the rest of the train explodes and asked Zaruba what he was mumbling about. Kouga heard Zaruba talked about him and said "I'm not clumsy, but I'm not cool headed either." He heard the whole recap conversation and Zaruba winked to the audience as they left.
[edit] Nightmare
The scene opens to the past. Shizuka is picking flowers when she looks like she's about to faint. Rei catches her and tells her to be careful since her body isn't well. Shizuka wonders why Rei became a Makai Knight and Rei tells her it's to protect her. He then tells her he had a nightmare, but it was nothing to worry about. Shizuka and Rei looks after their ill adoptive father. As he lay in bed sick, he tells Rei he did his best to train him the ways of the Makai Knight and for him to start a new lineage of Makai Knights. Shizuka walks in to give Rei a dream-catcher as a way to help him sleep.
As Rei slept he had the same recurring dream of a shadowy figure with a sword to strike him. Silva wakes Rei up and tells him something is wrong. Rei runs out to his room and find his father dead on the stairs. He hears Shizuka screaming and tries to save her, but the armored figured struck his sword into Shizuka. The armored figure left and Rei holds Shizuka's body. The following day he buried his loved ones and thinks back last night. Silva identified the armored figure was a horror eating Makai Knight that has the fighting style of GARO. Since then Rei has been on a path of vengeance and takes the dream-catcher image imposed on his black jacket. Rei wakes up from a hang-over and finds Kaoru visiting him.
Rei was curious how Kaoru found him, but he goes rummaging his booze for something to drink. Kaoru brought cake to from her job to ask him to cooperate with Kouga. Rei was curious how much she cared for him and Kaoru responded that she cares for him as well. Rei then pins her down on his bed and tries to kiss her, but Silva tells him to stop. Kaoru too Silva's distraction to run back to the Saejima household. She goes back to her room crying and Kouga wonders what's upsetting her. Meanwhile Kouga and Rei receives a black orders document, a first in their careers as Makai Knights.
They both were debriefed about a Horror gateway appearing and that 100 Horrors will be unleashed. Kouga and Rei were chosen because they were the only two with Madou Horses. The watchdogs wanted both Makai Knights to cooperate so they made an insurance arrangement in which both Knights exchange each other's Madougu's. Both Silva and Zaruba didn't enjoy arrangement either and didn't cooperate with their temporary partner.
While Kaoru was in her room, she decided to finish her canvas art about ZERO and GARO. In between this time Rei made a bet with Kouga with the person who reaches out of the Demon Realm first wins. If Rei wins, he gets to tell the complete truth behind Kaoru's situation. If Kouga wins, then Rei never appears before Kouga and/or Kaoru. Kouga agree to such terms and started their mission. Kaoru meanwhile finished her art of the two and had a bad feeling something is happening. She goes to ask Gonza bout Kouga, but he had no answer to him. Kouga and Rei then summon their armor and Madou Horses. While racing to the Demon Realm gateway, they fought a little before entering.
As they entered the Demon Realm, both Knights realized it's more than a mere 100 Horrors, but almost 1,000 Horrors stand in their way. Kouga suspects their mission was a setup by the watchdogs. They jumped off the cliff and fought mid-air. As the Horrors engaged them, both Knights randomly strike whichever Horror comes close to them as their Madou Horses jumps off Horror to Horror to slow their descent. As they landed on a new surface, more Horrors appeared and Zaruba identified the mystical floating tower as the energy source which summons the Horrors. ZERO and GARO used "blazing armament" on their body, weapons, and Madou Horses. They plowed through the legion of Horrors and destroyed the mystical tower. Both exited and sealed the gateway at the same time, a tie. They returned each others Madougu's and Rei vowed their feud isn't over and left. They went to see the watchdogs and demanded an explanation. Rei was so angry that he tried to strike the girls, but Kodama defended them. The watchdogs only admit a miscalculation and congratulated the two for their efforts. Both left unsatisfied with the answers they got.
Kaoru ran throughout Japan to find Kouga, but got tired unable to find him. Silva wonders if GARO is the real horror-eater they've been looking for, but Rei has no clue; finds something strange about Kouga's fighting style. While walking alone, Zaruba wonders about Kouga's sword because it doesn't have as much dark energy over their blade as they killed so many Horrors. The scene ends with Kouga realizing that ZERO's death intentions are for real.
[edit] Statue
In an art studio, a man struggles with his clay as he feels the sculpture doesn't do what he wants. The woman posing nude for his art work gets afraid of his frustration as he destroys his sculpture. She knocks down a sculpture of an angel and the shadow of the angel wing appeared with a Horror's hand. As the curious artist goes after the broken cursed object a Horror appears right behind him offering him the "Hand of God" in exchange for his soul. He willingly allows himself to be taken by the Horror and began sculpting again. This time, his sculpture has the ability the manipulate his nude model. So twisted in his imagination of art brilliance that he tore the sculpture limb from limb. As he tore up the clay, the real live model was ripped apart in agony. In the end the artist started feasting on the dead model's eyes and head.
Meanwhile the former publisher of Kaoru's dad, mentioned the very same artist, Kouhei Kuramachi, that admired her father's work. She decided to find Kouhei Kuramachi in hopes to learn more of the whereabouts of her father's unfinished book. Meanwhile Kouga encounters Kouhei Kuramachi, he quickly transform into his Horror form Gargoyle and attacks him. Kouga's having difficulty fighting him since he's got speed and flight. He summons his armor to fight Gargoyle, only for him to escape.
Kouga returns to the watchdogs to inform that Gargoyle passed the western district and wants to enter ZERO's territory. The watchdogs deny Kouga of doing so because it's against the Makai law. Kaoru just got into the area where Kouhei lives, but bumps into Rei in the docks. Kaoru's memory of his "assault" to her was still fresh in her mind. Rei started some small talk with her and assuring her protection, but Kaoru just left him. Silva mentioned it's not worth it since she's going to die soon anyway. Meanwhile Kouhei is torturing another model buy cutting her sculpture counterpart apart. As Kouhei Kuramachi cuts through her sculpture version, so does her real body. She didn't last long as her arm was cut apart, she died from excessive bleeding. Kouhei ate her body and cleaned up. Kaoru came to visit him not long after his feeding and wanted her to be his new model.
While asking questions about her father, Kouhei Kuramachi tells her he doesn't know Kaoru's dad in person. He only knew him by reputation and his art work. Kaoru felt uncomfortable with Kouhei Kuramachi's behavior and decided to run for it. He stopped Kaoru and she resisted. Kaoru threw objects in the studio to distract him as she tried to run away. Meanwhile Zaruba informed Kouga that Kaoru is close to Kouhei Kuramachi/Gargoyle and decided to run after her. Zaruba insisted Kouga to not enter the western district to break the Makai law again, but he didn't care and kept running.
Kaoru is outside and still being pursued by Kouhei/Gargoyle. As he managed to corner Kaoru and about to cut her face, Rei threw a Dagger of Haja to stop him. Rei tries to save Kaoru, but Kouhei dumps her for (two stories down) dead and Kouga catches her in time. Zaruba advises Kouga to watch Rei's skills and watched as he fought Gargoyle. At this point Kouhei Kuramachi transformed into Gargoyle and Rei transformed ZERO. ZERO put the hilt of the swords together and formed it to a single weapon. As Gargoyle was flying, ZERO flew his blade like a boomerang and struck Gargoyle. ZERO eventually cut off his beak and gored his chest to finish him off. Gargoyle then turned back to Kouhei Kuramachi and realized ZERO's armor is the masterpiece he's looking for and dies. ZERO gives back Kaoru's sketch pad and thanks him for it, he smirks and leaves. The scene ends with Kaoru thinking to herself. She compares her future like a blank canvas, it's unclear. She continues with her painting as a way to paint herself a future.

GARO Side Story, "Smile"
This was a side story that has minimal relevance to the GARO story line and by far the most unusual. The story mainly focuses on the people in Kaoru's life and features the real life actors of GARO behind the show in an Alice In Wonderland/A Christmas Carol-like story completely done on live stage. The story begins with Kaoru sleeping on stage:
Is someone there? All people live in a canvas. That's a quote from a famous artist somewhere in Europe
She wakes up and says, "If that's true...then what am I!?"
The lights appear and Gonza appears. Kaoru goes to touch him and Gonza said he's not Gonza, but the "God of Pictures" that lives in the Makai. He tells Kaoru everyone has their own Makai and since she gets lost in her pictures her Makai is a Makai of pictures. Gonza suggests she's a Makai artist. As Gonza keeps talking, she totally ignores him and she goes identifying several famous paintings. She then loudly demands a way out of here. He tells her she must go through an ordeal to return to her world. She must obtain the golden pencil in order to return.
The ordeal is that she must find a person (implied man, Kouga specifically) that loves her paintings. If she wills it she is able to see the person that appreciates her paintings the most (suggesting Kouga). As Gonza leaves, she wills the image of a person that loves her painting the most and the sketch of Kouga appears. However the sketch is a walking sketch (man in black art suit with a large sketch of Kouga). He tries to get fresh with Kaoru, confesses his love and desiring her affection in a disgusting manner. She tries to poke with the pencil, but that actually turned him on. The walking sketch of Kouga wants to embrace her, but Kaoru runs for it and falls over the stage unconscious. She wakes up to find Asami dressed up like a Roman goddess standing on stairs with dry ice behind it (for dramatic effect) in front the stage.
Asami said she's not Asami, but the "Goddess of Painting." She waves a golden pencil and asks "Did you drop the Gold Pencil?" Kaoru wasn't sure how to answer, but realized it's the pencil Gonza mentioned earlier. However instead of verifying if it's her pencil her greed got in the way when Asami confirmed it's a 100% gold pencil and tried to take it. Asami said she's lying and will take the pencil as punishment. She then tries to steal the golden pencil, but Asami shook her off and laughed away. She then sees Keru, Beru, and Rosu, but doesn't know them personally cause they never met until they merged to GARMA.
They said they support Kouga through his shadow (as the watchdogs), but Kaoru thought that Kouga was into young teen girls. Kaoru felt disgusted at the idea Kouga would into sort of thing. The three told her to believe in Kouga's love for her. They told her to bravely face the canvas in order to face herself to find the answer. Their words only left her more confused and she didn't like the idea of being lectured by school kids. Behind her was Kodoma and wondered if he was their babysitter, but he spoke in English with a Kansai accent (according to Kaoru). He only said he's a guard to the girls and told them to continue their performance in a joker-like personality. The three tells her to look for him and they left. At the stage the seiyū's (voice actors) to Silva and Zaruba are in old English costumes playing chess. They say the meet in the Makai world to have discussions.
Zaruba asked Kaoru a favor to support Kouga and to help him smile. Silva wanted to tell the reason why Kouga kept her alive (suggesting the time line is different since she already knew). Kaoru still wanted to know and asked Silva to tell her. Silva agrees to tell under one condition and it's to die under her blade. Apparently Silva is very jealous of Rei's attraction for Kaoru. Zaruba holds her down and tells her to go.
Kaoru would meet her sick mom at the front row seats. Her mom died of illness, but apparently she appears in her final moments before she passes. She talks about how she met and fell in love with her father and hopes she could find a man that could love her as well. She "died" and Kaoru was depressed for a while, but then a historical flashback showed little Kaoru drawing with her father watching over her. She then realized it's not Kouga who appreciates her art work the most, but her father. Her father then hands her a small golden pencil and she woke up.
It's revealed towards the ending this was completely a dream she had while staying with Kouga. She doesn't understand why she had that dream and why she had a golden pencil until later on when she realized Kouga is another man that appreciates her art. The episode ends with the preview to the GARO Special "Beast of The White Night."
[edit] GARO Special
This was a miniseries holiday special. While the first season did say there's a continuation, it never specified would GARO take on a second season. It's possible that this miniseries is the continuation the producers mentioned and last of the GARO series. No new information has been released to reveal a second season, however if there is then this miniseries has set the introduction of new future characters for season 2.
[edit] Beast of The White Night part 1
A little girl sits around an empty lot waiting for someone. As she waits, the girl sees a man trying to force a woman have some "fun" with him. The girl stands up watching the commotion. The rough man doesn't like the girl loitering around and forcefully tells her to go home. The little girl then raises a Makai Tao-brush to defend herself. Suddenly from a distance a man yells "run." Saejima Kouga appears and jumps off the balcony and tells the man to go date a human woman. He doesn't understand what Kouga meant, but feels offended by it. As he reacted to Kouga's comment in anger, he tugged the "helpless" young woman. When he pulled her arm hard he noticed she's no longer afraid, but seems to be oddly strong. Kouga uses the Madoubi to verify the Horror's reaction in the eyes. The Horror's human form eyes then transforms into a pair of arms and seals away the Madoubi inside of her. The rough man freaks and runs for it. A fight ensues outside the building complex to reveal the Horror's true form. Kouga transforms into GARO and cuts her up, but her parts regenerated into additional copies of it. Zaruba recommends burning the Spider Horror. He used the Madoubi lodged inside of the horror to set GAROKEN into a blazing sword. He defeats the Spider Horror and shares a few words with the little girl.
The little girl introduces herself as Rin Yamagatana and she carries a message from Makai Priest Amon. Kouga didn't believe her at first, but the mention of an old Bar chess game helps give her credibility. Rin complained of hunger and was taken to the Saejima household to eat. Gonza introduced Rin to pudding and liked it ever since. While eating there was still skepticism over the validity of Rin's words. Rin wanted to prove her power by summoning a small fireball that bounced throughout the living room until hitting Kouga's painting from Kaoru. Kouga was upset over the damage on Kaoru's painting and took Rin's brush away, but Rin got it back using a return command spell. Rin didn't understand why Kouga took it so seriously when she accidentally damaged Kaoru's painting. Meanwhile in a secluded area, two people are trying to bury a dead body. As the man dug the spot for the body, dark energies began to appear and entered the dead body. Eventually the body came to life and took the life of the helpless woman. The creature, Legules, then asked the man if he wanted to live. He nodded yes and Legules blasted energy into his eyes and transformed him into his servant, Aomushi.
Kouga then proceeded with the spirit summoning ritual to speak with Makai Priest Amon. Rin placed the candles in a circular pattern and a mirror in the middle. Using her brush she summoned Amon. Amon revealed that Jabi's body isn't destroyed, but held captive by the Makai Beast Miki. Her spirit is trapped between the spirit world and the living seeing how her body still connects her to the living. Amon asks Kouga to enter the Makai Forest to rescue Jabi's body to help "reincarnate" her. Only someone close to Jabi has a chance of waking her and they were former childhood playmates after all.
Elsewhere two business buddies had a long night of drinking. One of the two entered the stalls and heard screaming with blood gushing through the floor. A strange ghoulish woman was right on top of him on the stalls, dripping blood from his friend. He freaked and ran for it as he saw the cut up dead body of his friend. As he ran for his life, Rei appeared to defeat the Horror. After a short fight, the ghoulish woman was transformed into a Karakuri Horror. Rei transformed into his ZERO armor, riding his Madou Horse. He rammed the Karakuri Horror outside of the building complex falling over ten stories downward. After decapitating it, Rei was surprised that the body still functions. However that was dealt with his horse rubbing the Karakuri Horror out on the building wall as they fell.
Later the newly appointed eastern watchdog gives Rei new orders to head off to Kantai. Rei wasn't enthusiastic over the matter since he thinks it's just a ceremony he's attending. The watchdog told him the Kantai Ceremony was important to watch over since they are trying to suppress the Horrors when the barrier to the human world becomes a gate during a solar eclipse. He warns him of the dangers of the Kantai Ceremony and dispatched him to Kantai as backup forces in case something goes wrong. Rei decided to take the more difficult route possibly out of fun for slaying horrors along the way.
After a training session, Kouga intends to head to the Makai Forest with Rin's assistance. Rin was against it because it was scary to her, but Kouga dragged her to Kantai. To be on the safer path, Kouga used a secret entrance known by the Makai to enter Kantai. While in Kantai's forest, Rin led the way to Kantai as they chatted. Rin mentions about her mother, Kouga relates to Rin that both lost their mothers at a young age. Kouga can't say much about his mom since she died of illness when he was two. Rin believes that her mother is looking after her as well as Kouga's mom looking after Kouga. He paused for a moment looking over a familiar area when he as a kid. It was a flashback of his time with Taiga. Taiga mentioned a past moment with Rin (Kouga's mom). Kouga doesn't remember, but Taiga doesn't blame him for his inability to remember. It was then young Jabi first me Kouga.
As they enter their way into Kantai, two guards block Kouga's path as he's not expected and didn't state his purpose for heading into the Makai Forest. Tsubasa heard the commotion and followed. The guards were defeated with ease and suddenly Kouga had to face Tsubasa. Rin then ran off the side to safely watch the fight. Tsubasa wanted to know Kouga's purpose, but didn't feel like answering. While striking him, Kouga revealed his red scabbard and Garuba (Tsubasa's Madou Bracelet) realized it's the man who holds the title of GARO. At first they fought hand-to-hand, Tsubasa lands more hits on Kouga. He told Kouga they he heard of him breaking Makai law, allowing a girl stained by Horror's blood to survive. He wouldn't allow Kouga to break the rules in Kantai. Tsubasa then ringed his earring and magically stones around the area surrounded Kouga. Tsubasa used his magic skills to hurt Kouga with the stones. Kouga defended himself, but got a few hits. Tsubasa then used his Bo and hit a switch and a spear tip extended. Rin was worried that Tsubasa is taking the fight seriously and used her own magic with a flying stone to distract Tsubasa. Tsubasa was stunned that his own little sister would defend Kouga. Rin told Tsubasa that Kouga isn't bad. After they struck at each other, Priestess Garai appeared to stop the fighting.
Priestess Garai told Tsubasa to allow them to pass because this was the wish of Priest Amon. Tsubasa argued that this mission should be his, but Garai wouldn't allow it seeing this was Amon's will. Tsubasa was furious he couldn't do anything about it. He warned Kouga that he never sanctioned this and walked away with his disciples. Priestess Garai comforted Rin that her brother won't be mad at her for long. It was here Priestess Garai talks with Kouga and surprised at his growth. Kouga never met Priestess Garai, but she said she knows of him through her prized student. It's revealed that Kouga's mom was trained under Priestess Garai and she blamed Taiga for taking her away (got married to Taiga and left her master). Rin was surprised that Kouga's mom was also named Rin and Garai said that her name was named after Kouga's mother. Priestess Garai finds it remarkable that Rin Yamagatana would lead Kouga since her name is the same s Rin Saejima.
Rin and Kouga reaches to the gate of the Makai Forest. It's a doorway embedded on a side of a hill. Kouga entrusted Rin to hold on to the two candles on her hands for the gate opening or he'll be trapped in the Makai Forest. Kouga enters the Makai Forest and encounters a black waving tree and identified it as Makai Beast Miki. He would ask Miki to release Jabi, but she was confused who he was talking about. Kouga then reminds Miki of the girl she's holding. Miki had taken Jabi as her "daughter" and said it's not time for her to reincarnate. Miki challenged Kouga to free Jabi. She then took on the form of Kodama, Rei, Barago, but then taken on more difficult forms for him to fight. She took on the form of Taiga and lastly Kaoru. Kouga had a very difficult time fighting the image of his loved ones, but Zaruba told Kouga to cut the sentiment and defeated all of the false images. He then enters the stomach of Miki.
The scene would cut back to Tsubasa's disciples on guard duty. They noticed something coming forth underground and out came a Karakuri Horror. They defended themselves, but were pushed back by the Horror. As the Karakuri attacked, Rei appeared and told the guards to stand back as he was about to summon his armor. Tsubasa suddenly appears as he speared one of the Karakuri Horrors, but more appeared. Garuba told Tsubasa to show these Horrors the power of Knight of the White Night. He summoned his armor with the Horror still gored, but the energy waving forthcoming from his armor disintegrated the Karakuri Horror to reveal Knight of The White Night DAN. DAN then used his spear and speed to swiftly kill all the Karakuri Horrors and he introduced himself to Rei. Rei said he's from the eastern district and Tsubasa said he was expected. Tsubasa shook his hand for friendship and thanking him for saving his disciples.
Kouga entered Miki's "belly" and asked for Jabi's release, but refused. He summoned his armor and rode Gouten to save Jabi. Miki used her tentacles and launched projectile spears at Kouga. Gouten helped shield GARO for most of the blows, but the battle was dragged on. Rin started having trouble keeping the gate stable as ghoulish spirits began haunting her and trying to get her to close the gate. Gouten was tied down by Miki, but stomped his hooves to help summon GARO-ZAN-BA. The larger sword helped GARO shield most of the blows. Miki refused to let go of her "daughter" and Kouga screamed "Jabi isn't your daughter!" Jabi had awaken from Kouga's cry and started to struggle inside of Miki's belly. Miki was now very upset Jabi woke up and attacked harder with more projectiles. While fighting, Kouga had a vision of his mother saying some mystical words. After he returned to reality he cried out for Gouten's power and Gouten freed himself to aid Kouga. Gouten stomped the ground with all his might and emitted a more powerful magical shock wave that transformed GARO-ZAN-BA twice its size. GARO now had the means to strike Miki and as he sent Miki flying downwards he flung his sword with into the air and rode it like a surfboard. He surfed on his sword straight into Miki and freeing Jabi. Jabi opened her eyes to Kouga and felt warm by his presence. Rin was breathing hard as she tried to ignore the ghoulish spirits when suddenly a hand touched her. She looked up and it was Kouga with Jabi. Jabi was covered in rags and thanked Rin. Zaruba asked Rin "It wasn't scary was it?" and at first Rin said it wasn't, but then said it was scary and hugged Kouga in tears. Kouga thanked Rin for her efforts.
Meanwhile Legules received word from Aomushi that the time of his tribe's resurrection is near. Legules then struck his hand through the earth to pull out a Horror. The Horror was unable to shake off Legules as he added the dark Kabuki-like mask and transformed it into a Karakuri Horror. The story ends with Jabi in a black dress meditating yoga-like exercises on a grass field.
[edit] Beast of The White Night part 2
Legules is walking in a crowded shopping center. An unsuspecting guy with two other friends bumps into Legules and joked about his clothes. Legules killed him by flipping him upside down and breaking his neck. His other friend freaks and tries to run away, but Legules grabbed him by the neck and his torso is cut in half. A lady screams and the whole crowd panics and Legules reacted by sucking out all the energy out of them. The people within the shopping area are all dead...
The scene takes a flashback with Taiga and Rin Saejima sparring. As they sparred, Rin stops her brush from dropping into Kouga's crib. Inside, baby Kouga sleeping peacefully. Priestess Garai walks nearby and sees the Saejima family happily together and they bow to Garai to show respect. Back to the present, Jabi is teaching Rin how to use her brushing techniques better for spell casting. Priestess Garai points out how Rin and Jabi are training together reminds her of Kouga's mom. Kouga comments he doesn't have much memories of his mother (since she died very early in his life). Just then one of the junior priestesses notifies Priestess Garai there are orders for Kouga. She delivers the orders document to Kouga. He wonders why would there be orders reaching in Kantai. Zaruba thinks perhaps the Horrors are running wild in Kouga's absence. He burns the message that follows:
- Ancient demon Legules Awakens
- Be sure to fire the Phosphorus Arrow. Legules must be defeated.
- If not...the world of light will once again be covered by demons.
Priestess Garai opens a Makai book that tells the tale of Legules in her quarters:
- Legules appeared in the white night skies and passed through the barrier, reviving his tribe.
- The Phosphorus Arrow was created to destroy that barrier.
- However...that arrow is a double-edged sword.
- If released in the sky, it will destroy the barrier.
- But, if that arrow draws blood during the eclipse...:
- ...this world will forever become a world of demons.
- Even after Legules was sealed...when the barrier appears in the white night...
- our Kantai Knights of the white night would shoot the arrow into the sky barrier.
- We continue that today as the Demon Suppression Ceremony.
She points out people just thinks it's a ceremony to shoot an arrow into the barrier and that it lost it's meaning over the years. As they were discussing the details of the ceremony Tsubasa enters the room defiantly against Jabi's presence since he considers her dead and not human. Jabi walks up to Tsubasa and grabs his left hand and puts it tightly to her left breast. Tsubasa can only react in shock and nervousness touching a woman this way. Jabi asks "You can feel the beat of my heart, right?" Jabi pulls him closer to her face and asks "Do you still think I'm dead?" He pulls away and Garai said "You lost." Kouga reminds Tsubasa of Legules and there's not time for bickering. Tsubasa is ever confident he has the skills to handle things since Kantai is his territory. Goruba added that Tsubasa is descended from the knights that fought Legules originally and can handle things alone. Rei then appears suggesting even the Knight of White Night can use comrades and promoted cooperation between Makai Knights. Kouga wonders why he appeared in Kantai and he explains he received some "flattering" orders.
As they were walking outside Jabi was surprised that Rei would say "let's get along" and Rei replies he's grown. Rin was surprised that Rei is a Makai Knight that smiles. Tsubasa meanwhile still displays too much pride to ask for help. They enter the room that contains the Phosphorus Arrow and Jabi examines it against Tsubasa's objection. As she senses its power, she realizes and tells everyone that Amon wanted her to be revived to help restore the arrow. Priestess Garai wants to contribute, while Tsubasa still insists things done "the Kantai way." Kouga tells Tsubasa, "We have our own ways." Tsubasa reacted with objection and Rei asked the two to be nicer towards each other. Tsubasa storms outside for guard detail.
Outside the building, Hyuga (or Hiuga = sunny place) is nervous and asks Tsubasa if it is a real attack. Tsubasa reminds him to not be lax since Horrors can read human thoughts. Rei is with Akatsuki (means daybreak) and he's jumpy over the slightest sound. Rei reminds him to be calm since there's no horror aura. Kouga is alone and is approached by Rin. She tells him that her brother isn't a bad person and that he's kind. Zaruba highly doubts that remark. Kouga tells Rin he's not really mad at her brother. Rin hopes that she can bring happiness to Tsubasa after she becomes a full fledged priestess. A short scene follows Rin and Garai re-energizing the Phosphorus Arrow. Jabi is in a spiritual world where she captures flying gold dragons into orbs and shoots them down to the arrow.
It's night time now; all three knights drew their blades as they realized they are surrounded by Karakuri. Kouga tells the sleepy Rin to go hide when a wave of Karakuri engaged him. The Karakuri try to enter the area where the arrow is stored, but a Makai barrier prevents them from entering so easily. Legules takes over the body of one of his Karakuri and engaged Kouga. Kouga decapitated Legules, but his body pinned Kouga down and picked up his head. He asked Kouga to join the Legules family, but Kouga refused. Aomushi is the "lieutenant" of Legules forces and leads the charge to capture the Phosphorus Arrow. After Kouga "defeated" Legules, Legules transferred himself closer to the arrow where Rei and Tsubasa are fighting. Both Rei and Tsubasa transformed into ZERO and DAN, but even the Makai Knights were no match to Legules. Legules smashed their armors and broke through the barrier. As DAN tried to stop Legules, Rin jumped in to save his brother. Legules shot out his tongue to pierce Rin, but Kouga deflected the blow; there were pieces of shrapnel that deflected into Rin. Rin was knocked down, but not seriously injured. GARO tried to look after Rin, but Aomushi got in the way. Aomushi tried to push away GARO, but his soul metal armor burned his skin. GARO then assisted Tsubasa as he's struggling with Legules. Even after GARO chopped off Legules right arm, it can still continue to struggle with Tsubasa and held him down. Around the same time Jabi just finished restoring the energies of the arrow to face Legules. The mystical energy wasn't strong enough to repel Legules and they were holding and struggling for control for the arrow. Kouga then told Jabi to let go of the arrow as he jabbed GAROKEN into Legules torso and cut him apart. He merely transferred himself to another body and didn't die.
After the battle they tended to Rin and realized the shrapnel is a piece of Legules and it's poisoning her body. If not cured, then she will become another servant to Legules. The effects were too fast to recover a Barankas Fruit and options were limited. Tsubasa thought about killing Rin to spare her from becoming a Legules servant. Jabi owes Rin her life and volunteered to save Rin by using a Maki form of blood transfusion to dilute the poison. Kouga is worried the procedure can kill both Rin and Jabi. He spoke to her and made her promise to be alive after all is done. She smiles and tells him she has no intention of dying so soon.
Tsubasa is conflicted and ask for Goruba for advice, but Goruba seems to have no advice. Rei walked by and tells him Goruba was probably damaged during combat. Kouga and Rei tell him there's time to see Rin. Tsubasa doesn't like suggestions and Kouga asks why he is so cold to Rin. Kouga questions him what it means to be a Makai Knight. Tsubasa replied that he discarded his emotions to be a better protector. Kouga asks him who he wants to protect the most. Tsubasa paused and Kouga goes on to remind him that Rin loved him and risked her life against Legules. Kouga asks, "Isn't Rin the one you should be protecting!?" Tsubasa was speechless as he was conflicted with his feelings of guilt.
During that conversation Rin is scene undergoing treatment for her poisoning. Jabi uses her brush to burn Rin's injured left arm with Madou Flames. This caused painful burning to Rin and she bit Rin's wrist to deal with the pain. Rin used her right hand and burned her hand with Madou Flames and applied it to Rin's arm. Both were in extreme pain as the dark energies were flowing between Jabi and Rin. The procedure was considered successful as Zaruba sensed Jabi's strong aura.
Kouga and Rei wonders if Legules was truly defeated, but Silva commented that he's a Horror that can freely possess hosts. Zaruba added that Legules attempted to possess him. That's when the two realized that Goruba might be possessed and ran to see Tsubasa. Rin just recovered and wanted to see her brother. Tsubasa was happy to see Rin well and thanked Jabi for saving Rin. He then bowed for an old fashion apology for his rudeness to her. It was then Legules appeared out of Goruba, stole the arrow, and kidnapped Rin for his demonic ceremony during the white night to so her blood upon the arrow would open the gates of darkness. Kouga had Zaruba pinpoint his heading and it was the Naraku Forest.
The Naraku Forest has its own gravity and forces anyone close to it to shift side was in a 180 or 0 degree angle. Rei was literally walking sideways of a tree and the rest jumped into the gravity field to "fall" or "fly" up to Legules. Legules used Aomushi and the Karakuri to distract Jabi, Kouga, Rei, and Tsubasa to have enough time to sacrifice Rin. Aomushi lead the charge to hold off the group, but was badly injured facing Tsubasa. Aomushi ask for Legules help upon making it to the center of the forest, but only to be kicked onto a tree. He reverted to his human form and died.
Legules had no patience dealing with the four and had one of his Karakuri take Rin away. The three knights fought Legules and had Jabi go after Rin. The Makai Knights summoned their armor to take on Legules. Legules himself whipped out four mechanical bladed arms (pretty much like doctor octopus) and fought all three of them. With DAN closest to Legules, GARO threw Madou Flames at Zero to pass it on to DAN. It was an attempt to end things with blazing armament, it failed and their armor retracted. More Karakuri were summoned and Legules left the scene. Tsubasa told Kouga to ahead as they held off the Karakuri.
Jabi fought Legules and managed to get the Phosphorus Arrow back into Jabi's hand. Kouga and Jabi were ready to fight when they realized the solar eclipse has arrived. The white night appeared and Legules powers seem to have grown and he transformed himself into a large metallic Horror. Jabi used her special red flags to help Kouga extend his reach to attack Legules. During the fight, Legules managed to get the arrow again. Jabi was knocked to an area filled with Karakuri and had to fend for herself while Kouga takes on Legules solo. Rin tried to use her brush to free herself, but it was knocked to the ground. Kouga was knocked hard and boulders fell on top of him and unable to escape from the weight on top of him. Kouga then noticed Rin's brush and had Rin cry out a return command to pull out Kouga. Legules transformed himself into a mechanical wasp and tried to sacrifice Rin. Kouga dived straight to Rin and GARO's gauntlet appeared on Kouga. It's the first case where Kouga was able to summon his armor piece-by-piece through his will. Legules tried to stab Kouga with the arrow, but Kouga grabbed it back instead. While fighting Legules, he decapitated him again and his tongue pierced GARO. Insect-like legs were growing inside-out of Kouga. Legules reattached his head and tried to attack him again. In between this time the entire situation looked dire. Everyone was pinned down by Karakuri emerging from the other side, overwhelmed, and could die any moment. Kouga then jabbed the arrow into his chest which cured him of his condition. The power of the Phosphorus Arrow somehow changed the GARO armor with Tao-Arcs behind him to give him the gift of flight and the arrow has taken the form of a spear. GARO used it to kill Legules and the barrier at the same time.
With victory, all of the Karakuri vanished and the sky was covered in color like the northern lights. When the skies cleared, Tsubasa told Rin "You're my pride." Rin then wanted to show Tsubasa her spell and it produced butterflies that made him smile. Rin was happy the spell made her brother smile. As Kouga admired a white butterfly, Kouga's parents revealed themselves. Kouga was happy to see his parents are together in spirit and bow to them out of respect as they vanished. Back in Kantai, Kouga thanked Rin to help remind him his mother is always watching over him. Kouga then wanted to know Jabi's plans and Jabi said she wanted to stay in Kantai. Jabi said she found something she wanted to protect and it's Rin. Rei comforted Akatsuki and left on his bike. When Silva asked why he didn't take him as a student, he prefers to do things alone and is content just having Silva. Kouga himself went back home.
While returning home Kouga realized the damaged painting from Kaoru has been repaired. Kouga imagined Kaoru working on the canvas and restoring it. Kaoru came back from Italy and was in the backyard admiring a butterfly on her paint brush when Kouga appeared. They both smiled and welcomed each other back home. Kouga extended his hand and Kaoru held his hand as they walked together. The scene focuses on the empty canvas with the butterfly hovering over it. The credits roll and the final scene says "End", suggesting this is the finalization of the GARO series.
