List of Frontier Brains

The Frontier Brains are a fictional group of powerful Pokémon trainers from the Battle Frontier who first appeared in the video game Pokémon Emerald. They are 7 in total, and each one resides at a Frontier facility and has his or her own title. After defeating a Frontier Brain, the trainer will receive a Silver Symbol (1st time) or Gold Symbol (2nd time). The island and the Frontier Brains are led by Scott, a talent scout for promising trainers.
In the anime, Ash Ketchum travels the land of Kanto after his journey in Hoenn, defeating the Frontier Brains. Instead of being on the Battle Frontier island, the facilities are in cities in Kanto.
In the Pocket Monsters Special manga, a mysterious boy called Emerald, who has a connection with Latias and Latios, come the Battle Frontier island to defeat the Frontier Brains.

The Factory Head Noland (ファクトリーヘッド ダツラ Fakutorī Heddo Datsura?, Factory Head Datsura in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Factory. He hands out the Silver Knowledge Symbol to Pokémon trainers who defeat him, and the Gold Knowledge Symbol to trainers who defeat him twice. Noland is similar to the English word "knowledge."
In the games
Following the Battle Factory rules, Noland and his Pokémon are unpredictable; like the player, he always uses a random team. The player battles him for the Silver Knowledge Symbol after winning 20 consecutive battles and for the Gold Knowledge Symbol after winning 41 consecutive battles.
In the anime
Noland appears and features in the episodes "Numero Uno Articuno" and "The Symbol Life" of the Pokémon anime. This version of Noland does not use random Pokémon. Instead, he has many, and will battle with whichever Pokémon his opponent chooses. He has befriended the legendary bird of ice, Articuno (which he does not use in the games), which he uses in a one-on-one battle against Ash Ketchum's Charizard.
In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Noland is the first Frontier Brain that Emerald fights and defeats. Unlike in the anime, Emerald has to fight the full 42 random matches required for the Gold Symbol. Noland uses a Mawile, a Golem, and a Glalie against Emerald's Linoone, Pinsir, and Sceptile.

The Arena Tycoon Greta (アリーナキャプテン コゴミ Arīna Kyaputen Kogomi?, Arena Captain Kogomi in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Arena. She hands out the Silver Guts Symbol to Pokémon trainers who defeat her once, and the Gold Guts Symbol to trainers who defeat her twice. Her name may be a slight reference to her "guts" symbol; it also is reminiscent of the word "grit", suggesting toughness.
In the games
After winning 27 consecutive battles, the player fights Greta for the Silver Guts Symbol. After winning 55 consecutive battles, the player fights Greta for the Gold Guts Symbol.
In the anime
In the Pokémon anime, Greta trains students at the Battle Arena. Greta does not use the Pokémon she does in Emerald. Instead, Greta trains Fighting-type Pokémon. She uses a mysterious wheel to determine what battle she will be having with her opponent. Ash Ketchum spins it and gets a 2 on 2 battle.

The Dome Ace Tucker (ドームスーパースター ヒース Dōmu Sūpāsutā Hīsu?, Dome Superstar Heath in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Dome. Tucker prefaces battles with narcissistic comments, and enjoys the sound of a crowd chanting his name. He uses Pokémon that are one of a kind, for example, the final evolutions of starter Pokémon. He turns over the Silver Tactics Symbol to trainers who defeat him once, and the Gold Tactics Symbol to those who defeat him twice. His name is similar to the word "tactics."
In the games
In the final battle of the 5th consecutive tournament, the player fights Tucker for the Silver Tactics Symbol.. In the final battle of the 10th consecutive tournament, the player fights Tucker for the Gold Tactics Symbol.
In the anime
When Tucker battles Ash, they conduct a double battle in front of a large audience (and his fan girls), exactly like in Emerald. Tucker uses Swampert and Arcanine and Ash uses Swellow and Corphish.
In the manga
In the manga, Tucker is assaulted by Pokemon Lover Emerald while riding to the Battle Frontier Opening Ceremony on his Salamence, then tied up and thrown backstage during the opening ceremony, where he is discovered by the other Brains. They let him go and he starts yelling at Emerald, on stage. Scott tells him to be quiet, and Tucker grows a grudge against Emerald. The press makes Emerald the Battle Frontier mascot, which enrages Scott and the other Frontier members. Tucker bears witness to Emerald's victory over Noland, and immediately orders the boy to come to his facility.

The Pike Queen Lucy (チューブクイーン アザミ Chūbu Kuīn Azami?, Tube Queen Azami in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Pike. Lucy prefers to use serpent-like Pokémon. She is very tall and quiet, never saying much, defeated or otherwise; but she does state that it took a great deal of work to get to her level of skill. She hands over the Silver Luck Symbol to those who defeat her once and the Gold Luck Symbol to those who defeat her twice. Lucy's name is similar to "luck."
In the games
After traveling through 27 consecutive rooms, the player fights Lucy for the Silver Luck Symbol. After traveling through 139 consecutive rooms, the player fights Lucy for the Gold Luck Symbol.
In the anime
Lucy appears in episode AG158 of the anime. In addition to her preference of snake Pokémon, Lucy also seems to have a soft spot for squinty eyes. This is shown when she appears to fall in love with Brock. Lucy uses her Seviper and Milotic in a battle against Ash's Pikachu and Donphan. She also owns these Pokémon:
In the manga
Lucy battles alongside Palace Maven Spenser for the media during the grand opening of the Battle Frontier, using a Seviper. She is later defeated by Emerald.

The Palace Maven Spenser (パレスガーディアン ウコン Paresu Gādian Ukon?, Palace Guardian Ukon in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Palace. Because of his Unown tattoo and his Kyogre symbol staff, many fans wonder what his connection to these Pokémon are. Spenser hands out the Silver Spirits Symbol to Pokémon trainers who defeat him once and the Gold Spirits Symbol to trainers who defeat him twice. His name is similar to "spirit".
In the games
After winning 20 consecutive battles, the player fights Spenser for the Silver Spirits Symbol. After winning 41 consecutive battles, the player fights Spenser for the Gold Spirits Symbol.
In the anime
In the Pokémon anime, Spenser is a kind old man who specializes in herbal medicines. Spenser uses the island he lives on as a natural battlefield. Spenser has two 'Unown A' tattoos, one in each arm. Ash Ketchum manages to defeat Spenser and win the Spirits Symbol using Heracross, Swellow and Sceptile. Spencer uses Venusaur, Shiftry, and Claydol. He also has a Chansey which does not battle.
In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Spenser fights alongside Lucy during the Grand Opening of the Battle Frontier. He witnesses the battle between Noland and Emerald.

The Pyramid King Brandon (ピラミッドキング ジンダイ Piramiddo Kingu Jindai?, Pyramid King Jindai in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Pyramid. He uses trios of Legendary Pokémon. Brandon should not be confused with Brendan, the male protagonist (or the rival of the female protagonist) of the same game. Brandon hands out the Silver Bravery Symbol to Pokémon trainers who defeat him once, and the Gold Bravery Symbol to trainers who defeat him twice. Brandon's English name is a little like "bravery," his symbol.

After traveling through 20 consecutive floors, the player fights Brandon for the Silver Bravery Symbol. After traveling through 69 consecutive floors, the player fights Brandon for the Gold Bravery Symbol.
In the anime
In the Pokémon anime, Brandon's silhouette is not shown on its own during the opening and is only seen in the centre of the group shot, unlike the other Frontier Brains. Trainers can only find out the location of the Battle Pyramid after they have collected the other six symbols. This may mean that Brandon ranks higher than the rest of the Frontier Brains, although in the video games and manga this position seems to belong to Anabel.
In the episode "Battle Tower! Telepathy Battle!" Anabel tells Ash that Battle Pyramid is located near Pewter City. Many fans thought that this was a plot hole, because that would make the Battle Pyramid the closest Battle Frontier facility with relation to Pallet Town. Therefore, Ash Ketchum should have visited the Battle Pyramid first. However, in "Battle Pyramid! VS Regirock!" this inconsistency was explained when it was revealed that the Battle Pyramid can be rendered airborne by means of turbines. Thus, it may not have been near Pewter City when Ash and his friends passed through the first time. When Ash battles Brandon, he is possessed by the king of Pokelantis, and is later freed. Ash's Sceptile loses to Brandon's Regirock and he is told to come back at a later time. Ash's Torkoal later loses to Brandon's Registeel. On Ash's third attempt, Ash's Pikachu manages to defeat Brandon's Regice. Brandon then offers Ash a position as a Frontier Brain; he declines, but Scott insists the offer will remain valid should he decides to accept. During his appearance in the anime, he had a running gag of screaming "Noooo!" whenever he disagrees with something, usually causing Ash and the gang to jump in fright.
In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Brandon witnesses Emerald's battle with Noland and immediately refines his facility for him. However, Emerald still manages to conquer the Battle Pyramid.

The Salon Maiden Anabel (タワータイクーン リラ Tawā Taikūn Rira?, Tower Tycoon Lilla in original Japanese language versions) resides in the Battle Tower. She uses a variety of Pokémon. In the video games, she is the leader of the Frontier Brains, and her Battle Tower is considered "special". She has feelings for Ash, although he was unaware of these. She gives the Silver Ability Symbol to trainers who defeat her once, and the Gold Ability Symbol to trainers who defeat her twice. Anabel's name seems to have a vague root in the word "ability," her symbol.
In the games
After winning 34 consecutive battles, the player fights Anabel for the Silver Ability Symbol. After winning 69 consecutive battles, the player fights Anabel for the Gold Ability Symbol.
In the anime
Anabel appears in episodes AG169 and AG170 of the Pokémon anime. She is mainly a Psychic-type trainer. She is also psychic herself, able to understand wild Pokémon, as well as give telepathic battle commands to her Pokémon.
Ash fails to defeat Anabel on his first attempt, and this is Ash's first Battle Frontier loss. Ash challenges Anabel to a rematch and wins in the next episode. Anabel has what appears to be a crush on Ash as shown when he shakes her hand and she blushes and hold her hands close to her heart. Also, at the end of the episode Anabel says You can't sense feelings yet Ash. Otherwise you would have sensed my feelings for you.
In the manga
Anabel has a Raikou. She is the most powerful Frontier Brain and seems to be their leader. Anabel keeps the central villain busy while Emerald attempts to capture Jirachi.
