[edit] 2006
[edit] April 2006
- On the first show 3 April, Ed Kavalee's work as a Black Thunder was honoured in a tribute montage.
- 4 April showed how top notch Kavalee's panelling skills are, by showing great difficulty pushing buttons and the timing correct.
- Guest co-host Tom Gleisner and Martin reminisce the old days of the D-Generation Breakfast Show when 3MMM was originally called EON FM on 5 April.
- Tony interviews the owner of the Dick Liquor Inn to point out a flaw in the name of the bottle shop on 6 April.
- On 11 April a re-occurring joke begins with "Naked Time". This involves imagining a certain person who is the topic of discussion to appear naked on fantasy style music. In this case, the person was Charlize Theron. This happens as she is quoted in an interview that she enjoys "Naked Time" around the house.
- 19 April Tony's characters from Martin/Molloy days Tum & Phul are brought back in a movie parody called "The District's Swiftest Indian". This is a parody of the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" in which Anthony Hopkins is the lead character.
[edit] May 2006
- 8 May Richard Marsland joins Get This, while Pete Smith discusses his Logies experiences.
- 11 May Lachy Hulme begins accidentally what becomes a re-occurring theme of movie discussion specials.
- 17 May Tony plays Santo Cilauro's old sketches from their breakfast show on EON FM of whale songs.
- Rex Hunt's now infamous quote about the sex scandal he's involved in is first revealed on 18 May. The sound bite ends up being a re-occurring joke throughout the year.
[edit] June 2006
- During the 2006 FIFA World Cup the show turned the spotlight on Togo's German football coach Otto Pfister, with Kavalee's "Constant Pfister Updates", (which never really shed any new light on the goings on of the 2006 FIFA World Cup) invented headlines such as "Pfisticuffs!" and Martin's musical tributes "Pfister in the Sun", "Magical Pfistery Tour", "Pfister Madly" and "Let's Pfist Again".
[edit] July 2006
- On the 26 July 2006 & 31 July 2006 shows Martin acknowledged that Get This had its own Wikipedia article. On 31 July 2006, the announcement of the Get This Wikipedia article was talked about having regular intrusions and people changing the article. One caller into the radio program claims to be able to beat co-host Ed Kavalee in a game of Ping Pong and publicly announced it in this article. After learning of the changes, Kavalee subsequently accepted the ping pong challenge. As of August 2006, the hosts regularly mention the Wikipedia page, and how it is constantly vandalised.
[edit] August 2006
- During early August, Ed Kavalee had a new segment on the show called "Believe It Or Not". This was accompanied by hilarious versions of the theme from the Greatest American Hero, butchered to include some of the tasks Kavalee was to undertake. The segment was based around Kavalee performing unbelievable tasks, such as listening to Nickelback's album. The segment seemed to die after a couple of weeks after Kavalee appeared to lose interest. However, Kavalee continues to ask Talkback Mountain callers a "Believe It Or Not" question, where callers need to decide whether the headline Kavalee calls out is really from Take 5 magazine, or was simply made up by Kavalee.
- On 16 August, one listener emailed in and challenged Martin, Kavalee and Marsland to a Goldeneye 007 tournament, after reading about Martin's experiences with his Goldeneye infatuation in his book, Lolly Scramble.
- Kidnapping Angus Sampson from a movie set to feature as a guest host was raised as a joke during August 2006. Sampson appeared on the August 30 edition of the show but refused to divulge too much information about the movie, which is an adaption of the Maurice Sendak children's book, Where The Wild Things Are.
- Ever since Ross Noble's appearance, there have been constant references to the vintage British comedy On The Buses. Also Tony and Ed (also some guests) often do impersonations of Inspector "Blakey" Blake.
- On 24 August, Get This reached its 100th show milestone, with former Martin/Molloy cohort Mick Molloy as co-host. One of the songs played during this show was Be My Lover by La Bouche, as an example of the song genre they had to play, since 'Martin/Molloy' was broadcast on the Today Network. During the 100th show the hosts had hoped to be able to play the full version of "Hate to Say I Told You So" by The Hives, which forms the intro music for the show and was the kind of music Triple M play originally used to play. However station management turned down their request and instead allowed the La Bouche song.
- During the show on 28 August, reference was made to eccentric British TV presenter, David Dickinson and his show Dealing With Dickinson, with Martin emphasising the presenter's constant reminder of his "25 years experience".
[edit] September 2006
- Martin announced on September 8, 2006 that a limited edition free audio CD of the show is in the planning and production phase.
- Martin and Kavalee found a picture of Kamahl wearing a colourful kaftan. They ordered a set and plan to hold an "all-kaftan" week once they are delivered.
- It was noted that the show's sponsor at the time, the Mercedes-Benz Vito, shares a name with cross dressing WWE superstar Vito.
- Martin and Kavalee discussed about how they aren't legally allowed to put the Kim Beasley ringtone up on the Triple M website, but referenced the link at the bottom of this page.
[edit] October 2006
- Martin and Kavalee almost daily discuss content and recent vandalism on their Get This page and their own Wiki pages as pictures and new information are added.
- On the October 9 episode, Greg Fleet came up with the concept of a TV show called "Passiona High" the cast of which would be formed from the Get This team. The cast list is featured on the Get This page on the Triple M website. The cast of Passiona High includes Ed, continuing his role as Gus on his KFC ads, as 'Groundskeeper Gus', Richard Marsland as school jock and a dopey character known as 'Nodge'. Martin plays the captain of the Chess Club spending every lunch time at lonely chess club meetings.
- A new segment called "Absolute Bollocks" started on October 10 episode, where callers ring in stating certain things that are "Absolute Bollocks" (not the truth or false).
- On the October 12 episode, Tony and Ed were discussing all the nicknames that Richard Marsland has on his wiki. Ed managed to single out about twelve of these nicknames as his "favourite".
- On the October 13 episode, Tony and Ed spoke about things to do for free and one of the suggestions was to "edit" (vandalise) wikis such as Nik Kershaw and others.
- A new segment called "Think Tank" started on the October 20 episode where Tony and Ed ask callers what institute they created (like the "Ponds Institute") where ideas, thoughts or sayings were created by the callers.
- On the October 24 episode, Tony and Ed with guest co-host Ryan Shelton were recapping some of the notable events and running gags since the show began, discussing their origins.
- On the October 26 episode, Ed was shocked to learn that a listener in Sydney was using his faux headlines to "successfully" hit on women.
- The October 27 episode had Tony and Ed making fun and reference to the Karl Stefanovic wiki and how listeners have been making "amusing changes" to his article including changing his photo to put his head on R2-D2's body, that he is the first robot to become an Australian TV presenter and graduated from Queensland University of Technology for Animatronics.
- The much talked about order of satiny caftans arrived on October 31 which Martin, Kavalee and co-host Greg Fleet promptly donned for the rest of the show.
[edit] November 2006
- On the November 2 episode, Tony and Ed revisited the subject of Wikipedia, again condoning and promoting vandalism, specifically that of adding more nicknames to the page on Richard Marsland, pointing out that this page in particular was no longer locked for editing by new users.
- On the 6 November episode, the first instalment of "Passiona High" was to be premiered - this was the idea that Greg Fleet had come up with on the 9 October episode of Get This. It will start on 7 November instead.
- Ed revealed on the 7 November episode that the first instalment of "Passiona High" has the theme song "Say Goodbye" by Australian boy band Indecent Obsession and read out the treatment so the listeners will determine how the first episode will be shaped.
- The first instalment of "Passiona High" premiered on the 14 November episode. "Passiona High" (A place where crazy dreams can come true). It had Martin playing the role of Tony "Chairman of the Nerd Club" who was wanting to win the synth solo champs at the eisteddfod (using Nik Kershaw as inspiration) and with the assistance of "Groundskeeper Gus" played by Kavalee. Tony had to battle against "Ricky M" (who's brother was in Wa Wa Nee) played by Marsland. Tony used the Roland 5000 to win the championship.
- Tony released the new "theme" tune for John Howard on the 15 November episode. It was the theme from Mother and Son. Also they have given the Imperial march theme from Star Wars for the Attorney General Philip Ruddock.
- Martin and Kavalee on the 15 November episode were discussing the upcoming name change for Triple M on Friday 17 November 2006. A number of new names were speculated by the two hosts and if they should change the show name from Get This to something new.
- On the 17 November episode, the Get This team asked the listeners what suggestions they had for John Howard's theme - suggestions included the theme from Dad's Army, Postman Pat and the Stevie Wonder song "Master Blaster (Jammin)".
- A skit spoofing The World's Fastest Indian featured characters Tum & Phul, who originated on Martin/Molloy, was replayed on the 24 November episode as a highlight as it was originally played on 19 April.
- Ed announced on the 27 November 2006 episode that the Get This Table Tennis Tournament will be held on the 28 November episode. Apart from Ed, Ryan Shelton, Angus Sampson, Lawrence Leung and others will be involved.
- The much sizzled Get This Table Tennis Tournament took place on the 28 November 2006, and Ed Kavalee's games ended in him being thoroughly beaten. Much to the disdain of Ed, everyone practiced table tennis the night before. Tony also was conned into playing, and, in his words, "The Green Day poster is doing better than me!". Callers were then asked what challenges should Kavalee be involved in next - they included a fishing contest with Rex Hunt, a hot dog eating contest with a truck driving caller and a breakdance contest with another caller.
- On the same episode, Martin and Kavalee confirmed that the program will return in 2007, however it was still unclear whether the show will air in the same timeslot. (Later revealed to be changed to the later timeslot of 11:00 am)
[edit] December 2006
- The final episode for 2006 on 1 December was a recap/clip show reminiscing over the events, skits and other items from Get This that aired in 2006. Ed and Tony asked the callers what they would like to see for 2007 and what Get This can do and improve on for next year.
[edit] 2007
[edit] January 2007
- On the first show back 29 January, a list of new segments were envisioned. Some names used are:
- Funky Junky - inspired by Peter Andre's song
- Let's Go UpSkirting with Richard Marsland - inspired by recent events of an incident at the Australian Open
- Tony Martin Bags Out The Jews - this apparently wasn't intended to go to air
- Kavor Of Love - a spin-off of Flavor Flav's show "Flavor Of Love"
- What's In Peter Foster's Underpants - based on Australian con man Peter Foster
- Now What's Melting! - based on global warming issues where Tony will tell people what's melting, and how long they have to stand on it
- The Birdy Gra: Australia's First Gay Birdman Rally - where gay people stumble from the jetty
- Rally Round The Flag Boys - The Alan Jones Story - the description couldn't be mentioned during the timeslot
- Pure Humbug - disgraceful behaviour
Other ideas were suggested by callers such as new nicknames for Richard Marsland (name suggested was Mars Pathfinder), a new theme song for Tony Rudd, Where Wasn't Fleety?, and I Can't Believe They Invented That! based on weird inventions, Ed's Food Review, What Is Ed Eating Today, and Tony Martin's Cockney Hits.
[edit] February 2007
- Following on from Satiny Caftan Day, Tony and Ed have proposed "Caperil" (Cape April) where they would wear capes and capes would generally be featured in the April period. The hosts have since offered suggestions for other comically named theme months, as well the listeners contributing their ideas. An example of this is a tribute to Richard Marsland should be called Dicksember for the December period.
- A segment called Crimewatch was introduced to discuss amusing crime related stories and have callers to provide contributions.
- On the 7 February episode the show was re-labeled the All New Get This, where due to the continuing lack of a sponsor the hosts reportedly bowed to pressure from station management to play more music, literally playing a song almost every 5 minutes and frequently talking for less than a minute between songs. The first Talkback mountain segment of the day asking callers their favourite song on Triple M was claimed to have received no callers willing to take part. In between the musical overload, Ed discussed that he has been replaced on the KFC TV commercials that he had featured in as "Gus". He speculated that by not including him the new adverts that this would be downfall of KFC.
- The two hour show now only yields 8 minutes more of entertainment, (after ads, music and news) compared to the one hour show last year[citation needed]. On the 13 February episode, Martin advised listeners that if they play 5 songs per hour as per "management" orders, then one ad break would be dropped.
- For 2007, Get This has not had a sponsor and on the 8 February episode, Tony advised that the listeners will be the sponsor of the show, a new listener/sponsor each half hour.
- Tony and Ed played theme music for when any mention of the Get This Table Tennis Tournament was said, and was the sound of a ping pong ball and the song "Hit That Perfect Beat" by Bronski Beat mixed together.
- Tony has begun to read out various spam emails he has received, convinced that the grammatical errors and broken English are in fact intentional as a form of beat poetry. The company mentioned in the first of these, West Excelsior Enterprises, is now a frequent target to explain errors and mistakes on the show.
- The team began regularly dismissing the rock band Hinder in much the same fashion as with Nickelback, where coarse male voices sit torturously with romantic lyrics in post-grunge tracks. Tony and Ed once imitated the Hinder's lead vocalist Austin Wanker Winkler after the station played the song Lips of an Angel by murmuring and screeching unrecognisable sounds.
[edit] March 2007
- On the 6th March episode, Alan Brough took part in a promoted music trivia challenge against Richard Marsland. Questions were written by the first man on Australian FM radio Peter Grace. Marsland won 9 points to 6.
- "Weird Al" Yankovic was a guest co-host on the 7th March episode and played a number of his songs which had never been aired on Triple M before and gave advice to Tony and Ed regarding parodies.
- Ed was discussing on the 8th March episode about Krystal and the practise of Teabagging which was discussed in a copy of Zoo Weekly. This led to the discussion and banter between Ed, Tony and Richard about being fired on-air due to the subject matter.
- On the 14 March episode, Martin introduced a new segment called "Don't Believe the Hype!" discussing stories and items which have had too much hype around them. They also used a soundbyte of Flavor Flav saying "Don't Believe the Hype!".
- Tony and Ed were discussing on the 29 March episode about "Caperil" (Cape April) and what could be some of the possible ways to be involved.
[edit] Caperil 2007
- April 2 - Caperil is launched.
