How To Read, also shortened How To Read 13 or HTR among fans, is widely considered the thirteenth volume of the series, even though it does not contain any extension of the story. It contains many data relating to the series, including (but not limited to) character profiles of almost every character that is named, and a list of all the sweets consumed by L, complete with the date each sweet was eaten. It is the most recent resource relating to the series, and is often quoted when there are disputes regarding the series, such as the spellings of certain names in English. The Book has also been released in Chinese in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
