It should also be noted that there is a number of "unofficial" endings, such as if Frank does not find a cure during the 24 hours of overtime mode.

[edit] Ending A

Frank wonders where his ride is
Frank wonders where his ride is

As Frank steps out onto the roof, he looks around trying to see and hear any sign of his helicopter and his ticket out of Willamette, but Frank soon gets disgusted as he realizes that it is not coming. Frank wondering what to do begins to pace around the roof. Meanwhile, Ed DeLuca, the helicopter pilot, who is currently lying down on another rooftop in the city, looks towards the mall rooftop through his binoculars and is pleased to see Frank alive. He becomes overjoyed, when he remembers that he will be sharing a part of the scoop's profit and quickly gets into his helicopter to pick up Frank. Frank hears the helicopter's engine in the distance and turns to see if it is his ride. Frank begins to celebrate and shout in joy as Ed does the same.

Upon approach, Ed is still celebrating and his hand is caught by a stow-away zombie from behind, and is bitten on the neck. Frank sees the helicopter losing balance and control; he takes out his camera and uses the zoom in feature to see what is happening. Frank sees Ed getting bitten and blood splashes on the windshield. Frank looks up to see the helicopter flying overhead and as quickly as it flew over it vanished, over the malls rooftops into Leisure Park. A booming sound and smoke confirm Frank's worst fears. Frank unmoving just stares in shock at the area that the helicopter crashed. He falls to his knees, and believes that all hope is now officially lost. Frank stares on in disbelief that his only way out is now gone. Having totally given up, he continues to stand on his knees as the camera zooms away. A shuffling and familiar moaning is heard as a number of zombies begin to make their way towards Frank.

Notes:

  • While this Ending ends on a cliffhanger, it does continue directly on in Overtime Mode, where you can achieve the "True Ending"
  • Ending A is one of three endings that receive credits after completion of the game. The songs used in the credits are "Justified" by Drea (Eric Gorfain Mix) and a piano song by Hideki Okugawa and Marika Suzuki
  • One of two endings which Ed DeLuca gets killed
  • The survivors Frank managed to rescue were captured by the Special Forces, as stated in a note by Otis who managed to elude them. They are assumed to have at least been spared death, as the notebook marks them as "safe". This could be because they were with Jessie before "Clean Up" started.
  • You can only get receive this ending when "Case Closed" has been achieved.

[edit] True Ending

Frank defeats Brock. As Brock falls off the side of the tank, he stares in disbelief as he is grabbed by a horde of zombies who have congregated around the tank and devour him. Isabela continues to foot-push zombies away from the toppled car. Frank gathering his breath, sits on his knees, and lets out a mighty, echoing, yell. The camera zooms out from Frank to a sky down view of the area, which shows the tank, Isabela, Frank, and the jeep being slowly surrounded by a massive bock of zombies.

Frank West managed to escape the town of Willamette with information pertinent to the incident under his belt. The news caused a fervor throughout the world, leading to the U.S. government to admit at least partial culpability in the livestock research program. However, no connection to the Willamette incident was acknowledged and the events that occurred there were deemed the work of a fringe terrorist group. The people of world, as could be expected from the modern culture of news saturation, soon let the Willamette incident fade from their minds. The authenticity of Carlito's chilling plan to utilize the orphans as his pawns has yet to be confirmed or proven false.

And yet he complained that his belly was not full.

Notes:

  • The True Ending is one of three endings that receive credits after completion of the game. But it should be noted that the credits received here are "special" credits, as it shows an army of zombies walking together, towards and then past the camera. The song used at the end is the full version of the song "Justified" by Drea (Eric Gorfain Mix).
  • When Kindell is preparing to revolt and leave the safety of the security room, Frank changes his mind but the comment that "if you want to get out you would have to ride a tank to get past the National Guard" is reinforced here.
  • While it is known that Frank did indeed get out of Willamette, it is not known if Isabela did also escape with him. However, many people do speculate that she does survive, as there are rumors that a sequel is in the works.

[edit] Ending B

A zombie watches the helicopter fly away
A zombie watches the helicopter fly away

Ed Deluca lands his helicopter and Frank rushes out to greet and tell him that they are going to have a few more people who are going to accompany them out of the mall. Ed reluctantly agrees. Before take off, Jessie and Otis are shown sitting down and a few other passengers, but they have been blackened out. The helicopter leaves and a single zombie is seen shuffling on the roof, watching the helicopter fly away.

Although Frank West was able to escape with some headline-grabbing stories...The cause of the zombie outbreak remains shrouded in mystery...The days following the incident ushered in a series of similar zombie outbreaks in cities all across America. For a time, the city of Willamette would find its place in the spotlight, remembered as the first city to fall to the zombie onslaught.

Notes:

  • Ending B is one of three endings that receive credits after completion of the game. The songs used in the credits are "Justified" by Drea (Eric Gorfain Mix) and a piano song by Hideki Okugawa and Marika Suzuki.
  • Ed DeLuca says different things with the number of passengers collected.
  • Ed DeLuca is shown heading to the mall before the ending is shown.
  • The various zombie outbreaks that occurred after the game was Carlito's plan put into action.
  • Brad, Dr. Barnaby, and Isabela are never shown getting on the helicopter, like Otis and Jessie are. The reason for this is that this ending will only guarantee that Otis and Jessie live, not the other survivors.
  • Jessie is always slumped over in a corner like she was before she became a zombie when "Case Closed" is achieved.

[edit] Ending C

Ed Deluca decides to leave after not seeing Frank on the rooftop
Ed Deluca decides to leave after not seeing Frank on the rooftop

Ed Deluca looks toward the mall rooftop but can't see any sight of Frank. He assumes that Frank didn't make it after all. With that Ed decides to leave and turns around but is suddenly attacked by a zombie. Ironically Ed's last words were,"when you're dead, you're dead."(Talking about Frank to himself)

The government issued an order for the absolute quarantine of the locked down city of Willamette, declaring the area a hotbed of an unspecified infectious disease. Ultimately, no one was able to report the true nature of what had occurred there...

Notes:

  • Ending C is one of four endings that does not show credits at the end.
  • One of two endings in which Ed DeLuca is killed.
  • The view of which Ed is looking for Frank does not match when you are playing. For example it shows him on the building to the right of the helipad (looking down), but when playing, it is to the left.
  • The survivors Frank managed to rescue were captured by the Special Forces, as stated in a note by Otis who managed to elude them. They are assumed to have at least been spared death, as the notebook marks them as "safe".
  • You can only receive this ending when "Case Closed" has been achieved.

[edit] Ending D

A Special Forces soldier stands over Frank
A Special Forces soldier stands over Frank

A captured and semi-nude Frank is a prisoner to the Special Forces and is aboard one of their helicopters. In the morning he tries to get out of the handcuffs but a Special Forces soldier sees Frank's effort and stands over him with a gun pointing at his face. Frank realizes that his efforts are futile and gives up. The helicopter flies away with Frank aboard.

A Military Special Forces unit was dispatched to clean up the series of incidents in the locked down city of Willamette. However, the true story of what had occurred there remains unreported to this day...

Notes:

  • Ending D is one of four endings that does not show credits at the end.
  • Frank does not survive, as the Special Forces team silences him in order to keep the outbreak covered up.
  • The survivors Frank managed to rescue were captured by the Special Forces, as stated in a note by Otis who managed to elude them. They are assumed to have at least been spared death, as the notebook marks them as "safe".
  • You can only receive this ending when "Case Closed" has been achieved.

[edit] Ending E

No-one has yet to appear from the security room
No-one has yet to appear from the security room
A person steps out of the rooftop door
A person steps out of the rooftop door

The same happens as what was shown in Ending B. Ed arrives and waits for Frank to appear. He doesn't and Ed is ready to vanish, but as he is about to go a person appears out of the roof door. The same scene with Otis, Jessie and some blackened out people are shown sitting in the helicopter. Ed believes Frank did not make it and leaves without him. The helicopter leaves and a single zombie is seen shuffling on the roof, watching the helicopter fly away.

Survivors indicated that their escape from the mall under siege was made possible through the assistance of a single journalist. However, his exploits after that point and his current whereabouts are unknown.

Notes:

  • Ending E is one of four endings that does not show credits at the end.
  • Frank doesn't make it and Ed DeLuca leaves with the survivors saved during the course of the game.

[edit] Ending F

The timer reaches zero

A picture of what the bombs did to Willamette Mall
A picture of what the bombs did to Willamette Mall

The 5 bombs that Carlito set inside delivery vans, underneath the mall go off and destroy the mall.

As planned, the explosion sent the parasitic organisms responsible for the zombie outbreak high into the stratosphere. The contamination quickly spread far beyond the quarantined area, turning the once isolated incident into a nationwide epidemic. Soon, the whole of the United States fell victim to a rash of zombie outbreaks.

Notes:

  • Ending F is one of four endings that does not show credits at the end.

[edit] Unofficial endings

  • In Overtime mode, if Frank doesn't find the zombification suppressant within 24 hours, he will lurch over in pain, and fall to the floor. The screen will fade yellow to read the following.
Frank West, having fallen victim to the parasite, soon found himself zombified.

However, considering the state of affairs and the general hopelessness of the situation, this may be considered a humane end to our intrepid journalist.

No achievements are unlocked or acknowledged from this "unofficial" ending, and the player is not even given the opportunity to save their status.

Spoilers end here.
