[edit] Episodic Characters

[edit] Basil

Basil is a mentally disturbed burglar who at one time tries to rob the Bagge residence. He seems to have a double personality, as he is at one moment slapping Courage, Eustace and Muriel with his weapon of choice, a big fish, and the next treating them as family. When he's in this state of mind he names Courage "Nigel", Muriel is "Mama Mashed Potatoes" and Eustace is "Uncle Twinkle-Toes". He eventually convinces them to join him in one of his heists where he tries to steal the heads off of Mt. Rushmore. He's almost caught by the police, but is saved by Courage. He is then reformed by Muriel and Courage, though not by Eustace, who was being attacked by a demonic squirrel at the time. He goes on to become a massage therapist for electric eels.

[edit] Bunny

Best friend of Kitty. She fell in love with a dog named Mad Dog and is now being held captive by him. She tries to escape only to be stopped by Mad Dog and his gang. When Courage finds her she is buried to her neck in a giant flower pot. Courage helps her out and they escape through the window. Mad Dog gives chase but Bunny makes it onto a train with Kitty as they are reunited. Bunny and Kitty then decide that not all dogs are bad.

[edit] Carmen

Carmen is a large, one eyed, sea serpent that lives in the Evil River and has been stalked by a crazed ship captain but was rescued by Courage. Her rather monster-like appearance hides a gentle giant who only wanted to have someone listen to her sing her arias. She is named after the opera Carmen, and sings the aria from that same play.

[edit] Dr. Gerbil

A round, animorphic gerbil that poses as a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman who captures humans to use as test subjects for his products. When he captured Eustace and Muriel, Courage managed to free them, and during the chase between Courage and Dr. Gerbil, Dr. Gerbil's jet ski swerved into a waterfall, causing him to plunge to his death.

[edit] Dr. Zalost

Dr. Zalost
Dr. Zalost

"The Greatest Unhappy Scientist" as he declares himself. When the mayor of Nowhere refused to give Zalost money for his research, he took out his revenge by shooting cannonballs from his movable tower that made whoever it struck unhappy. Zalost in reality was really just suffering from chronic unhappiness, shown when the money he eventually received did not make him happy. He attracted the attention of Courage when one of his unhappy cannonballs hit Murial (Eustace was immune). However, his plans were foiled when Courage accidentally dropped one of Murial's happy plums into his unhappy mixture, causing the tower to collapse as it fired happy cannonballs, saving everyone in Nowhere. Zalost chased after Courage and Murial, but when he ate one of Murial's happy plums he found on the table, he became very happy and reformed. His name comes from the Russian жалость (zhalost'), which means sadness, mourning.

[edit] Duck Brothers

Three alien ducks with Liverpudlian accents, the first two came to save their 3rd brother from being cooked. To do this they took over Muriel and sent her to save him. Courage stopped them, so they used Eustace and had a rockum' sockum' robot style fight against Courage controlling Muriel. In the end, Courage discovered their real intentions and allowed them to use him to save their brother. They made a cameo in "Ball of Revenge" as the half time show (even though they wern't really villains). Oddly all three brothers lay eggs, despite the fact that they are males. They are all voiced by Ringo Starr from the Beatles rock band.

[edit] Fox

A fox who attempted to turn a sleeping Muriel into stew. He was dropped into his own stew in the end. He appears later in "Ball of Revenge." He wears sunglasses to hide his very large eyes and speaks with a Cajun accent.

[edit] Freaky Fred

Muriel's nephew, Freaky Fred, is a mentally unstable barber (as described by Eustace, "The freak's a barber, a freaky barber, with his own freaky barber shop, where freaky things happen, freaky barber things!"), who, as soon as he encounters a large amount of hair or fur, obsessively attempts to shave it (ironically, he himself has a large amount of untamed hair). He appears to live in his own world of whimsical fantasy, and does not see anything wrong with his actions. During the episode in which he appears (also named "Freaky Fred"), he narrates (and thus his episode is the only narrated episode of the series) in a manner similar to Edgar Allan Poe's poems, and often ends his sentences with "NAAAUUGHTYYY" (ex: Hello friends, my name is Fred, the words you hear are in my head, I say I said, my name is Fred, and I've been very NAAAUUGHTYYY). During his narration he describes how he first became obsessed with hair when he received a pet hamster, which he then shaved. Over the years he also proceeded to shave his girlfriend's humongous braids, and a bearded traveller who had the misfortune of walking into his barbershop. At some period of time he was then committed to the "Home for Freaky Barbers," which he either escaped from or, during the course of the episode, is on holiday from. During the episode he proceeds to shave off all of Courage's hair, whose frantic attempts to escape are cut off by the broken bathroom door or Fred himself. At the end of the episode he is taken away to the "Home for Freaky Barbers" in a strait-jacket, but not before shaving all Courage's hair, leaving only his tail and a message saying "With Love, Fred." He reappears as a cameo on TV in "Ball of Revenge."

[edit] The Great Fusilli

The self-proclaimed "Great Fusilli" is a wandering, lizard or alligator-like puppeteer, who entertains Muriel and Eustace with the idea of joining his stage show. As they perform, they are bound to the show by Fusilli's strings, and Fusilli threatens to leave the farm with them as his new puppets. In the midst of saving his family, Courage is drawn to the stage, and finds it hard to leave, but breaks the binds to save his beloved Muriel. Fusilli, in the end, is tricked onto the stage, and is attacked by his own magical string, turning him into a puppet.

[edit] The Hunchback of Nowhere

A homeless wanderer traveling along the road by moonlight, he was unable to stay the night in many houses because of his extraordinarily ugly face. When he first arrived at Eustace and Muriel's house, Eustace at first refused to let him in, but when Muriel and Courage found him staying in the barn, they invited him into the house despite Eustace's objections. The Hunchback carries with him a collection of bells of varying sizes (some ridiculously big), which he and Courage spent many hours making music with. Eventually, however, disgusted by how Eustace liked to scare Courage for fun, the Hunchback decided to give Eustace a taste of his own medicine. On the roof of the barn where Eustace had chased Courage, the Hunchback showed Eustace "the true face of ugliness": a mask of Eustace's face and the words "Stupid dog!" The sight was so terrifying that Eustace fell off the roof. The Hunchback then bid goodbye to Muriel and Courage, and left the farm happy and hopeful that he would meet other kind souls like them on his travels.

[edit] Killer Jam

A cycloptic monster and henchman created by Katz to steal Muriel's secret caramel apple recipe. It is made almost entirely out of Jam with the possible exception of it's one eye. Eustace scared him with his mask and it ran away scared.

[edit] The King of Flan

A round man who owns a large company that sells flan; he tries to hypnotize the world into eating his flan, but is stopped by Courage who hypnotizes him with his own device. His attack is rolling like a ball to smash people, what can be easily done since his body is perfectly spheric.

[edit] Kitty

The best friend of Bunny. A cat who visits the farm and stays with the family for the night. She batters Courage with random objects when alone with him while yelling dogs are evil. She wears a mask that she never takes off until she goes to sleep. She apparently wears the mask to escape from reality. She tells the family about her friend Bunny who fell for an evil dog and after she tried to convince Bunny to leave, Mad Dog threatened her and she had to leave. She keeps a small toy mouse with her at all times that Bunny gave to her and can't bear to be without it. Mad Dog gives chases Courage and Bunny after Courage helps her escape, but Bunny makes it onto a train with Kitty as they are reunited. Bunny and Kitty then decide that not all dogs are bad.

[edit] The Magic Tree of Nowhere

A tree planted by Courage that sprouted up in a day. It has the ability to grant people's wishes. This made Eustace jealous so he cut the tree down and unknowingly wished a curse on Muriel. In the end a sapling sprouted out of the stump.

[edit] Mecha Courage

A robotic version of Courage built by Di Lung to outdo Courage. Even though it's just a dome with a light bulb for a nose, it completely fooled Muriel and Eustace and outdid him at everything. As a depressed Courage thought over what to do, Di Lung decided to rub salt in the wound by insulting Courage and praising his creation but accidentally gave Courage the idea to do battle with his robotic counterpart in the colosseum of Rome. Courage fought his hardest but could not out do the transforming Mecha Courage and was badly beaten but his will to not stop out lasted Mecha Courage's power supply and it exploded, leaving the worn out Courage the victor.

[edit] Rat

Dr. Zalost's assistant, a giant hunchbacked rat. Rat was the unfortunate victim of Dr. Zalost's need for happiness, being asked to hug him and then being criticized that it wasn't a real hug. After Courage snuck into Zalost's tower, Rat tried to stop him and got hit by one of Zalost's cannonballs. It transformed Rat into a giant muscular feral form, but Courage flicked one of Murial's happy plums into his mouth. It then turned Rat into a little baby rat, who was later saved by Courage when Zalost's tower collapsed. When Zalost became happy, he praised Rat for the hug he got afterwards. Rat is also one-half of a recurring pair of evil rats that serve as monsters of the week.

[edit] Robot Randy

A blue and red robot from another planet with a Christopher Walken-sounding voice, where all inhabitants (all of whom are robots colored green and gray) live to cause destruction and oppression. Randy however, does not wish to destroy, instead he wants to whittle wooden reindeer, a hobby which he believes will cause him to be even more ridiculed than he already is in the eyes of the other robots despite his great ability at it. To prove himself to the other robots, he attempts to conquer Earth (notably only conquering the Bagges), but, after being defeated by Courage in a break-dancing contest, he realizes that he only has to believe in himself, not in what others think of him, and discovers that his love of whittling is heartily accepted by his peers.

[edit] Rumpeled Kiltskin

A Scotsman who forces people to knit kilts in massive numbers for profit. He is ashamed of his name and forces anyone who says it to leave him even if it means losing a worker. He claimed to be Muriel's uncle and forced her to make his kilts until Courage showed Muriel his name. His name and the whole episode was a parody of Rumpelstiltskin. He changes his name to Rumpelstiltskin at the end, as suggested by Muriel, and they go into a deal in the kilt-making business, 50/50.

[edit] Scarecrow

A scarecrow who Muriel found torn to shreds by crow. She put him back together and he came to life but was unable to scare anything. He bulked up and put Muriel under lockdown then chased Courage and Eustace with a hay bailer. The crows attacked him again and ripped him up again Courage saved him and found him a place to live, driving hay rides at the fair.

[edit] The Shadow

A shadow of a cruel old rich man, who escaped when his owner died. He then terrorized the farm until Courage conciled the Shadow and found out that he always wanted to be the shadow of a star, so Courage suggested that he become one of the real stars which he did.

[edit] Shwick

A giant cockroach that lives in New York and kidnapped Eustace, Muriel, and Courage. He then forced Courage into getting a package for him or he would feed Muriel and Eustace to some kind of creature behind a door. Courage went through a lot of trouble to get the package only for it to be broken, so Shwick got ready to release his monster but Courage lured him away and he was arrested by the police. He takes great offense to anyone calling him Bushswick were he is from.

[edit] Shwick's Monster

Shwick's Monster is the creature that lives in Shwick's closet. Though the creature isn't seen, it is most likely a rather vicious creature. It eats the skin off people's bones and it did this to Eustace.

[edit] The Starmaker

A space alien that looks much like a Giant Squid and creates the stars in space. She was the last of her kind until she laid eggs that landed on the farm. Muriel and Courage only wished to help her, but Eustace called the military for profit. They captured her and performed tests on her. Courage helped her eggs hatch and they flew off into space, but he was too late to save the mother. However, she died happily knowing the next generation of starmakers had been born and, as if to reward Courage, she dissolved into the ground, creating a garden.

[edit] Stitch Sisters

A pair of twin sisters that live on one body. The sisters run a quilt club that is really a cover-up for their dastardly plot to trap the souls of new members into a magical quilt as soon as said members sew their own piece of fabric into the quilt. Courage eventually freed Muriel by sewing part of his own hide into the quilt, allowing him to partially be inside the soul void. Afterwards, the Stitch Sisters were imprisoned into the quilt themselves.

[edit] The Teacher

A strict matron who tried to force Courage to be perfect after witnessing him being ridiculed by Eustace. She was defeated when Courage accepted who he was and she evaporated.

[edit] Weremole

A werewolf-like mole that once bit Muriel when she was tending her garden and caused her to turn into one. She was later cured by swallowing a hair from the weremole that bit her. It later appeared in "Ball of Revenge," called by Eustace. The weremole's natural prey are rabbits and humans. Strangely in "Ball of Revenge", it bites Courage yet he doesn't transform.

[edit] William the Dragon

William is a sea-dragon who appeared in the episode "Food of the Dragon". He swallows Eustace whole and threatens to eat Muriel as well (he won't eat Courage since dog hair gives him a rash). However, Courage makes a deal with William saying that if he can figure out why the dragon can't fly (like the other flying dragons who raised him) then William won't eat Muriel. After Courage fails several times at getting William to fly, the dragon begins to chase after Muriel and Courage again until the three reach the lake. The dragon is afraid to enter the water, so Courage and Muriel go into the lake. However, they meet a water dragon who assures them that he won't eat Courage and Muriel since he only eats fish. This gives Courage an idea and lures William into the water with a fish-stick (William is convinced to try fish and soon realizes he likes the taste of them). There, William realizes that he was a water-dragon like his long-lost older brother (the very water dragon that Courage and Muriel met earlier in the lake) and that he had been adopted by flying dragons when his egg was washed away by a storm. He also figures out that this is why he always hated the taste of people and removes Eustace from his stomach, but as soon as Eustace is released a flying dragon swoops over the lake and takes him away.

[edit] The Witch of the Black Puddle

An evil witch that lives in a puddle and only comes out to seduce men into her castle to eat them. She tried to do this to Eustace, but Courage saved him and dried up the Puddle, trapping her. Later Eustace called on her to destroy Courage in "Ball of Revenge." When trying to lure her pray to their doom she appears as a pretty lady but once she's ready to consume them, she transforms into her true monstrous form which looks like a shark-human hybrid.

[edit] Velvet Vic

An old singer imprisoned within a record by Shirley and unleashed by Eustace. Whenever he is forced back into the record, when it stops playing, he says his signature line, "dragsville, man." Once free, Vic trapped Muriel in his place and left on a tour with Eustace as his manager. He was sent back to his prison by Courage with help from Madame Shirley.

[edit] The Vet

Ironically, the first monster in courage's life was a human vet. A vet who tries to send dogs into space to breed super dogs. He was responsible for orphaning Courage. When Muriel took Courage to the vet when he was suffering depression from his memories of his parents, the Vet tried to launch Courage, Eustace, and Muriel into space since they'd seen too much, but Courage frees his masters and traps the vet in the shuttle. He is then seen on the moon with his canine victims (including Courage's parents) surrounding him.

[edit] Courage's Parents

Before Courage was abandoned he had a family with a mom and dad. One day he and his parents were playing with a ball until his father threw it too hard and caused Courage to get his head stuck in a gate. They took him to the vet to be freed but there they were captured by the vet and sent on a rocket. The mother had a yellow hat with a flower at the top and lipstick on. The father had a brown moustashe and think brown eyebrows. Courage's parents were never named but his mother mentioned the name "Henry" possibly meaning that Courage's father's name is Henry. His mother's name is unknown.
