List of Connecticut county seats

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Connecticut has no county level of government and thus no county seats. Government at the local level is via its municipalities. There are, however, counties on the map that are mainly for geographic specificity and regional identity.

Historically, the following were county seats until the abolition of county government in Connecticut in the 1960s.

  1. Fairfield County: Bridgeport and, previously, Fairfield
  2. Hartford County: Hartford
  3. Litchfield County: Litchfield
  4. Middlesex County: Middletown
  5. New Haven County: New Haven
  6. New London County: New London
  7. Tolland County: Rockville
  8. Windham County: Willimantic
