[edit] Books
Code Lyoko currently has only one book, titled Code Lyoko: The Adventure Begins. It covers the episodes "Teddygozilla" and "Plagued". The book is in manga format and uses cells from the two episodes (eight on each page) instead of hand-drawing them. The dialog is also slightly different, with some phrases modified and words added where characters never spoke originally. The names are also slightly different. Finally, the biographies for some of the characters are different from their counterparts in the show. For example, Franz Hopper is listed as a former student, not a former teacher. Xana is also listed as a virus, though this is still somewhat ambiguous in the series.
[edit] DVDs
Currently, Code Lyoko is being released on DVD by FUNimation in sets of 4-5 episodes each, all with digitally remastered picture and sound. Each DVD has subtitle options and special features that vary from DVD to DVD. A common item on each DVD is a map showing the number and location of each tower in each episode and profiles of various characters. Some of the names used are spelled differently, such as Kiwee instead of Kiwi.
[edit] X.A.N.A. Unleashed
X.A.N.A. Unleashed is the first DVD, and was released on September 20, 2005. It contains the episodes "Teddygozilla", "Holiday in the Fog", "Big Bug", "Claustrophobia", and "Zero Gravity Zone". Bonus features include:
- A map showing the location of each activated tower in each episode.
- A music video of the full version of the opening theme song, in both French and English.
- Profiles of the five main characters.
- Profiles of the characters' vehicles.
- Two previews: one for the next DVD, the other for the second season.
[edit] Movies, Music, & Mayhem
Movies, Music, & Mayhem is the second DVD, and was released on December 20, 2005. It contains the episodes "Seeing is Believing", "End of Take", "Plagued", and "Killer Music". Bonus features include:
- A map showing the location of each activated tower in each episode.
- A karaoke version of the music video on the previous DVD. This version is strictly in English.
- Profiles for Elisabeth Delmas, Hervé Pichon, Jim Moralés, Kiwi, and Nicolas Poliakoff. The names are spelled differently in some cases.
- A preview of the next DVD.
[edit] X.A.N.A. Possessed
X.A.N.A. Possessed is the third DVD, and was released on March 14, 2006. It contains the episodes "Image Problem", "Ghost Channel", "Swarming Attack", "Log Book", and "The Robots".
[edit] Complete 1st Season
MoonScoop and FUNimation recently compiled all 26 episodes of the first season as a box set of DVDs. It was released on September 12, 2006. The box set was released as three discs, with nine episodes on each disc. Most of the special features are those from the other first season DVDs.
[edit] Season 2 – Volume 1
On November 28, a DVD containing five episodes from the second season was released. It contains the first five episodes: "New Order", "Uncharted Territory", "Exploration", "A Great Day", and "Mister Puck" (bonus). No special features were included, but a preview of the next DVD was given. It will apparently be called "Missing Link", and include the next four or five episodes. It is only listed as "coming soon".
[edit] Garage Kids
Code Lyoko was preceded by a five-minute marketing pilot known as Garage Kids. It is similar in overall plot and premise to Code Lyoko, but features several differences in casting, character design, and location design.
[edit] Merchandise
A major merchandising campaign is planned to coincide with the release of the third season. It will consist of clothes, school supplies, the various DVDs, a line of stickers with the "Eye of Xana" in the background, skateboards, and a line of toys including action figures.
[edit] Music
[edit] Theme song
A World Without Danger (Un Monde Sans Danger in French) is the theme song for Code Lyoko. The version used in the show is a shortened version of the actual song (the bridge and chorus). The song is both written and performed by Noam. It is composed by Franck Keller and Ygal Amar. It was released on iTunes on July 11, 2006.[1]
[edit] Other music
There is also a full version of another song in the show, which is first heard in the episode "A Great Day" on the radio. It was on MoonScoop's website for a time, but has since been removed. Versions of it can be found at various fan-sites for the show. This music has sometimes been named "The Subsonics Song" after the group that plays it in the show. The mp3 name for it is Generique Fin which would mean "Ending Theme". When Miguzi showed CL they cut off the ending, but on the original episodes (which can still be seen in marathons and such) Generique Fin can still be heard.
[edit] Subdigitals
A music CD has also been released by the fictional band from the show, the "Subdigitals". The CD contains 11 tracks containing various songs from the series, expanded into full-length tracks. According to a trailer for the CD, it is released by EMI Music France,[2] similar to the EMI Label One release of the theme song on iTunes. The fictional band is actually called the "Subsonics" in the show, but Subdigitals is used to avoid confusion with an existing band known as the Subsonics. The band also has another song known as "Planet Net," which is available on various foreign fan sites.
[edit] Magazine
A Code Lyoko magazine has been confirmed to be published by Panini Comics, which is a regular publisher of animation-based comics in France.
[edit] Video games
A video game of Code Lyoko is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo DS on May 24, 2007, and will contain a mixture of both the RPG and adventure genres. The deal has been signed through Kidz Entertainment. They will work with MoonScoop, Game Factory, and FUNimation to manage development of the game and provide marketing support.[3] According to the Game Factory, it will consist of 15 quests and 15 levels, during which the player can play as each of the four characters (Jeremie isn't playable) to reach and shut down forty different towers.[4]
Code Lyoko is set to appear on other handhelds and the Wii as well.[5] Amazon's catalog includes a PSP version in pre-order, but few sources confirm it.[6]
