It is, in part, a continuation of the list of Asturian Queen Consorts and the list of Leonese Queen Consorts.

Ferdinand II of Aragon, husband of Queen Isabella of Castille, and Philip of Habsburg, husband of Queen Joanna of Castile, were Kings of the Crown of Castile.

At 1556, the union of the Spanish kingdoms is generally called Spain and Mary I of England (second wife of Philip II) is the first Queen Consort of Spain.
