He was assigned to 3rd Squad, 3rd Platoon, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 502 PIR (Parachute Infantry Regiment), 101st Airborne Division. Obrieski, along with the rest of the 101st Airborne Division, was deployed to England and began to train for the upcoming invasion of Europe.
[edit] Road to Hill 30
On June 6, 1944, Obrieski and his squad were dropped behind enemy lines in the Normandy countryside to help secure causeways leading away from Utah Beach and to otherwise disrupt German defenses. He survives the fight at Purple Heart Lane, but is later killed by a sniper's bullet in Carentan.
[edit] Miscellaneous

- He was in the fire team under Hartsock. He appears to be friends with Pfc. Tom Zanovich.
- He was known to hate Benjamin Kevin "Legs" Legget, because he thought he was responsible of Privates James Allen & Kevin Garnett's death and because he destroyed the only bar left in the city of Carentan.
[edit] Joseph "Red" Hartsock
{{Infobox Military Person |name=Joseph Hartsock |lived=[[June 27,1922,??? |nickname=Joe, Red |placeofbirth=Laramie, Wyoming |allegiance= United States |branch=United States Army |serviceyears= |rank=Staff Sergeant |unit=Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne }}
Joe "Red" Hartsock, voiced by David McGarry[1], is a secondary character in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and the playable protagonist of Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. He also appears in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.[2]
[edit] Background
Joe "Red" Hartsock (so nicknamed because of his red hair) was born June 27, 1922 in Laramie, Wyoming. Before the war, he worked on a ranch in Wyoming and has hunted all his life. As a youth, he was wild and rebellious and gained a large scar during a bar fight with what he describes as "an angry lumberjack". He married a woman named Erma and had a daughter with her just before being sent to basic training. He joined the 101st Airborne Division and was eventually deployed to England with the rest of his unit to train for the invasion of Normandy. At this time Hartsock was a Corporal and lead 3rd Squad's Fire Team.
[edit] Road to Hill 30
On June 6, 1944, Corporal Hartsock and his squad were paradropped behind enemy lines in Normandy. During Road to Hill 30, Hartsock followed Sergeant Matt Baker through some of the bloodiest battles in the early days of the invasion. Most notably, Hartsock helped Baker secure "Objective XYZ" and the town of Vierville, paved the way for glider reinforcements, led his fire team through Purple Heart Lane, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole's charge, and the Battle of Carentan, and finally helped with the frantic and bloody defense of Hill 30.
Following the defense of Hill 30, Harsock was promoted to Sergeant and became the Squad Leader of 2nd Squad.
[edit] Earned in Blood
After Hartsock is promoted to 2nd Squad's leader the left overs from 1st Squad (Cpl. Jacob Campbell, Pvt. Will Paige, and Pvt. Derrick McConnel) are folded into 2nd as the squad's Fire Team. Hartsock helps Baker push the remaining Germans out of Carentan, leads most of what was left of 3rd Platoon to clear out the unit's left flank during the defense of Hill 30, and finally helped Cpl. Doyle and the 82nd to capture and clear the strategically important city of St. Sauveur, France.
[edit] Hell's Highway
In Hell's Highway, Hartsock and Baker take part in Operation Market Garden. Hartsock leads a squad consisting of the survivors of 2nd Squad (Campbell, McConnel, Paddock, Friar, and Marsh) in addition to new replacements.
[edit] Miscellaneous
- Hartsock, and Sergeant Matt Baker (who was at that time a Corporal) were good friends.
- During his drop Hartsock's leg bag which held his M1 Carbine (M1A1 variation) was ripped from his leg, so he was unarmed. Hartsock's chute got entangled in a tree and as he dangled in mid air a German soldier came across him. The German was about to kill him until he was cut down by rifle fire. Hartsock was saved by Corporal Seamus Doyle from the 82nd Airborne Division, who quickly became one of his best friends during the Normandy invasion.
- Pvt. Muzza was killed in the C-47 by flak before he had the chance to jump. During the first few days of the operation Hartsock led Privates Allen and Garnett until they were killed during a flanking maneuver against an enemy held farm when they were under the command of Pfc. Kevin "Legs" Legget, whom Hartsock blames for their deaths.
- While in St. Sauveur he witnesses his friend Doyle get vaporized by a tank shell from a Panzer tank. The blast disoriented Hartsock, and Pvt. Paige (who had a sucking chest wound from a piece of the shell) used the last ounce of his strength to pull Hartsock to safety before dying right in front of him.
- Hartsock is most often seen in the games using an M1A1 Carbine during the early parts of D-Day and the BAR during the later stages. However during an assault on the city of Baupte, France, Hartsock's ring finger is blown off at the tip and on top of this the stock of his BAR is shattered by a piece of shrapnel that took his finger. After this incident Hartsock is seen wielding the M1 Garand rifle and Thompson submachine gun.
[edit] Matthew Baker
Matthew Baker | |
---|---|
February 22, 1921-??? | |
Nickname | Matt |
Place of birth | St Louis, Missouri |
Rank | Sergeant; After Normandy Staff Sergeant |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Matthew Baker, voiced by Troy Baker,[3] is the main character in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and is a secondary character in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. He also appears in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.[4] The character is based on various actual individuals from the 101st Airborne Division, with Harrison C. Summers being among them.[citation needed]
[edit] Background
Matt Baker is the son of a military family that was broken up by a divorce during his early childhood. Baker grew up with his mother in St. Louis, Missouri during the Great Depression. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor Baker volunteered for the newly activated airborne divisions of the United States Army. His unit is 3rd Squad, 3rd Platoon, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 502 PIR (Parachute Infantry Regiment), 101st Airborne Division. Baker, along with the rest of the 101st Airborne Division, was sent to England and began to train for the invasion of Europe. During a training exercise only days before D-Day, the original Squad Leader of 3rd Squad was injured and then Corporal Matt Baker was promoted to Sergeant and given command of the squad.
[edit] Road to Hill 30
On June 6, 1944, Baker and his squad were to be airdropped over Normandy. However, as his squad was waiting for the green light to begin the jump, the plane was hit by flak, killing Private Muzza (3rd Squad's first casualty) and knocking Baker out of the plane. Baker was able to deploy his parachute and landed safely. Throughout the campaign, Baker leads his squad through various battles that claim the lives of most soldiers in 3rd Squad, including the capture of Objective XYZ and of Vierville, Purple Heart Lane, Cole's Charge, the Battle of Carentan, and the defense of Hill 30 on the outskirts of Carentan.
[edit] Earned in Blood
In Earned in Blood, Baker appears as a non-playable character in Story Mode and as a playable character in the co-op Skirmish Mode. Baker and his squad continue their fight in Carentan after the ending of Road to Hill 30 and help Hartsock and his squad push the remaining Germans out of Carentan. Afterwards, Baker only appears at the end when Baker and Hartsock tell their stories to Army historian Col. S.L.A. Marshall.
[edit] Hell's Highway
Baker is one of the main characters of Hell's Highway (along with Hartsock) and leads a Recon unit consisting of the survivors of 3rd Squad (Corrion, McCreary, Courtland, and Zanovich) and a few new additions. Baker and Hartsock will lead their men through Operation Market Garden.
[edit] Miscellaneous
- Baker is most often seen during the single player campaign of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.using the M1 Garand rifle, Thompson submachine gun, and once the M1903 Springfield rifle.
- Baker's squad is a traditional paratrooper squad consisting of twelve soldiers, jokingly called "Baker's Dozen." Baker's soldiers include Corporal Joe Hartsock, Corporal Sam Corrion, PFC Jack Courtland, PFC Stephan "Obi" Obrieski, Pvt. Larry Allen, Pvt. Michael Garnett, Pvt. Johnny Rivas, Pvt. Michael Desola, Pvt. David Muzza, Pvt. Thomas Zanovich, Pvt. Dale McCreary, and Radio-Op Benjamin Kevin Legget. Privates Allen and Garnett are both killed during a flanking maneuver against an enemy held farm. Pvt. Rivas was killed by a sniper on Purple Heart Lane. Pvt. Desola was killed by a Stuka dive bomber while trying to squeeze through an obstacle on Purple Heart Lane. Pfc. Obrieski was killed by a sniper during the defense of the cathedral in downtown Carentan. Finally, Pfc. Legget was killed by a tank shell burst during the defense of Hill 30. On top of the deaths in his own squad, Baker's best friend George Risner was killed when his tank was hit by a Panzerfaust anti-tank weapon.
- In Skirmish Mode in Earned in Blood, Baker uses the M1 Carbine (M1A1 variation) and the Thompson submachine gun.
- Judging from screenshots of Hell's Highway, both Baker and Hartsock have been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
- According to hints on the Ubisoft Brothers in Arms forum it's been said that most of the new additions in Hell's Highway are actually combat veterans and that the squad will only have one soldier without combat experience.
[edit] Greg "Mac" Hassay
Greg Hassay | |
---|---|
{{{lived}}} | |
Nickname | Mac |
Rank | Staff Sergeant |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Greg "Mac" Hassay, voiced by Jeff Kribs,[5] is a secondary character in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. He also appears in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.[6]
[edit] Background
Hassay enlisted in the Army in 1930 and by 1939 was a full Sergeant. He was eventually deployed to England with the rest of his unit to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, Operation Overlord. He served as Platoon Sergeant for 3rd platoon of Fox Company.
[edit] Earned in Blood
Throughout Earned in Blood, Hassay's story is told by Joe "Red" Hartsock to Army Colonel S.L.A. Marshall. The first half of the story tells about missions that happened in between the normal missions in Road to Hill 30. Due to the terrible misdrops the 101st Airborne suffered, Hassay was often stuck with members of different squads. He distinguished himself on Hill 30, where he gathered the remaining men of his platoon and held the line. He was badly wounded during a German counter-attack on the city of Carentan when a rifle bullet went through his stomach.
[edit] Miscellaneous
- Hassay is most often seen in the games using the M1A1 Thompson from the early stages of D-Day to the latter stages of the battle of Normandy.
- The first man he met just after he was airdropped was Baker, then Leggett.
[edit] Kevin "Legs" Leggett
Kevin Benjamin Leggett | |
---|---|
1920-June 13, 1944 | |
Nickname | Ben, Legs |
Place of birth | Brooklyn, New York |
Rank | Private First Class |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Private First Class Kevin Leggett ( b. 1920s-d. June 13, 1944 ) is a fictional character in the ubisoft game Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.
[edit] Early Life & Description
Kevin Leggett was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not much is mentioned about his life in the game except that he often quotes poems his father read to him when he was young. His favorite comic book hero is Batman; he was seen having a feud with Allen about Batman and Superman(claiming that all Clark does is sit around and acts like a jackass, whereas Batman has a cool secret identity). He also wears glasses.
[edit] The Army
Probably sometime in 1942, Leggett enlisted (or was drafted) into the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division as a radio operator and became a private first class. He was assigned to Fox Company in Sergeant Matt Baker's squad. The first time that he met Baker was in a breakfeast tent, where Baker saw Legget cutting a boiled egg with a knife. As for weapons, he is first shown with an M1A1 Carbine, but through most of the game is shown with an M1 Garand.
[edit] D-Day
After jumping into France, Leggett met up with Sergeant Matt Baker, Staff Sergeant Hassay, and Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole. After speaking in French to a local woman, Legget discovers they're north of their destination. Cole decides to leave to gather more troops (eventually meeting up with Sergeant Joe "Red" Hartsock, Corporal Seamus Doyle, and Corporal Franklin Paddock). Leggett, Baker, and Hassay headed toward Utah beach and on the way manage to take out some German infantry and two AA Guns. When day broke out, Legget left with Hassay to find more people from their squad.
[edit] The First Week
After D-Day Leggett usually stuck with Mac through most of the game, relaying radio messages to higher headquarters. During a mission to capture a farm house, Mac places Leggett in command of Private Allen and Private Garnett, and sends them around the flank of the barn. There was an ambush, and Allen and Garnett were killed. How Leggett survived and how Allen and Garnett died is not mentioned (though rumored to be revealed in Hell's Highway, it's not confirmed however). The squad, particualry Hartstock and Desola, blamed Leggett thinking that it was his fault that their friends died. Leggett became quiet and usually stood alone from the group and was not seen speaking from then on, until the defense of Hill 30.
[edit] Hill 30
On June 13, the squad was tasked to help the 506th PIR hold and defend a position outside of Carentan known as Hill 30 (also known as Bloody Gulch) to prevent a German counter-attack from taking the town. In order for that they needed armor support to counter German tanks. While defending Leggett tried to call for armor support, and despite the fact his radio couldn't receive any transmissions he was able to send them.
[edit] Death
As the germans started to advance more soldiers from the platoon started to fall. Soon a Panzer advanced very close to Leggett's squad's position and fired at them. After firing the second shell (which knocked down Baker and also gave him a nasty scar on his forehead) Leggett in a moment of madness drew his M1911 pistol and stood up and fired at the tank screaming his last words, " You want ME?!! FUCKING TAKE ME!!!! TAAAKKKEEE MMMMEEEEEE!!!!. The tank fired at Leggett, killing him instantly and blowing a large hole in his left side.
[edit] Aftermath
After successfully repelling the attack, the remnants of 3rd Squad are shown outside the cathedral in Carentan. Corporal Sam Corrion is shown with a piece of Leggett's damaged radio. Hartsock asks why he brought it and Corrion replies that he didn't know, he just felt like it was the right thing to do. Hartsock asks if he is going to bury it. Corrion says he might. This shows that despite what happened to Allen and Garnett they still liked Leggett. Later in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Hartsock is shown telling a Col. S.L.A. Marshall how Leggett was the one that saved them at Hill 30 by managing to relay radio messages to the tanks of the 2nd Armored Division. Despite the fact that Baker was the one that led the tanks directly to the battlefield it was Leggett that got the armor into the general area. This admission shows that Hartsock acknowledged Leggett's determination and reliability and despite his death it showed he was not a coward and that he cared for the other men in the platoon.
[edit] Misc.Info
Leggett is referred to as Pvt. Kevin Legget in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, but in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood he is called Benjamin Leggett. His weapon is the M1 Garand.
[edit] Franlin Paddock
Franklin Paddock | |
---|---|
???-??? | |
Place of birth | Kansas |
Rank | Corporal |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Corporal Franklin Paddock is a fictional person from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. Paddock is a secondary person in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood and, supposedly, in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. Paddock is voiced by Larry Brantley.
[edit] Paddock's Past
Franklin Paddock is a family man from Kansas. Paddock is an abrupt, reckless and arrogant farmer with a very strong southern accent. Paddock barely got into the airborne because of his being a hothead, but after he joined the 101st Airborne Division and his problems with auorities ceased. He was eventually moved to England with the rest of his unit to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, "Operation Overlord." At this time Paddock was a Corporal and lead 2nd Squad's Assault Team.
[edit] Paddock's Assault Team
At no point during D-Day did Paddock have his full Fire Team which would have included Private "Friar" Winchell and someone else that apparently got killed during D-Day,including the Sergeant that led the squad. During the first few days of the operation Paddock led Private Winchell under Corporal Hartsock's command until Hartsock was made Sergeant and commander of the second squad. Finally, Paddock's assault team was formed by Pvt.Winchell and Pvt.McConnell and himself. Even through all of this Paddock maintains himself as a strong leader and even though his incredible feats during D-Day he was not promoted to Sergeant after the defense of Hill 30 and after the battle of Carentan or Baupte.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Throughout Earned in Blood,Paddock's and the second squad's story is told by Hartsock to Army historian S.L.A. Marshall. The first half of the story tells about missions that happened in between the normal missions in Road to Hill 30. Due to the terrible misdrops the airborne suffered Paddock was often stuck with members of 3rd Squad, mostly Red Hartsock and Corporal Sam Corrion. He was forced to cooperate with some men from the other squads until after the battle of Hill 30, which lead to some organisation in the squads' formations. This was mostly due to the fact that 2nd Squad's Sergeant was killed during the drop. During D-Day, Hartsock, along with Doyle witnessed Paddock shooting by himself a whole crew off an AA gun with his Grease gun. After that, the four men linked up with Lt. Col. Cole and Cole asked Paddock from which unit they came from. Paddock answered: "Kansas, sir".
After Hartsock is promoted to 2nd Squad's leader the left overs from 1st Squad (Cpl. Jacob Campbell, Private Will Paige, and Pvt. Derrick McConnell) and Paddock finally had a whole assault team. In fact, the only surivivors of the second squad were Paddock, Winchell and Marsh.
Paddock helped to clear Ssgt.Hassay's flank during the defense of Hill 30, and finally helped Cpl. Doyle and the 82nd to capture and clear the strategically important city of St. Sauveur, France. It was D-Day+10, Hartsock's squad was to clear the town of St.Savuer. Paddock was convinced that they would have met some At guns but nobody seemed to believe him. They found out he was right, and various AT guns could have blown up the tank that accompanied them. Unfortunately while in St. Sauveur he witnesses Doyle get vaporized by a tank shell from a Panzer tank. Paige saved Hartsock's life by pulling him out of the line of fire. Paddock gave them covering fire with the rest of the squad.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
In Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Hartsock, Baker, Paddock, Corrion and other characters take part in Operation Market Garden, an operation that ultimately failed. Paddock will lead the same team consisting of McConnel and Friar. He is seen entering a toy shop along with Ssgt.Hartsock, who has been promoted, and claiming he has fallen in love with a girl named Stella. His brief narration is violently interruped by a strong detonation that wounded Baker, and Paddock is seen falling to the ground and afterwards falling in into Hartsock's formation to flank some 88's. After that we see two soldiers handling a bazooka with the name "Stella" written on it.
[edit] Misc. Info
Paddock is most often seen in the games using the M3 Grease Gun from the early stages of D-Day to the later stages of the battle of Normandy.
[edit] Samuel Corrion
Samuel Corrion | |
---|---|
1918-??? | |
Nickname | Sam |
Rank | Corporal |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Corporal Sam Corrion is a fictional character from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. Corrion is voiced by Mike Neumann.
[edit] Background Info
Corporal Sam Corrion is 26 years old and before World War II made a living working at a textile mill. He was among the original volunteers for the 101st Airborne Division and is the leader of Third Squad's assault team. He is a weapons expert and is skilled in the use of American and German firearms.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
High above the Normandy coast on June 6th, 1944, Corrion and the rest of his squad were getting set to make the jump into German occupied France. Before Corrion had the chance to jump a flak shell hit the engine on Third Squad's C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft which killed Private Muzza and knocked Sergeant Matt Baker out of the aircraft. Staff Sergeant Greg "Mac" Hassay ordered everyone out of the aircraft immediately afterwards and Corrion began his decent into the battle for Normandy. At the end of the mission "Dead Man's Corner", Staff Sergeant Greg "Mac" Hassay mentions that Corporal Corrion along with Private Desola were able to group with the 506th during the misdrops. It is unknown what exactly Corrion went through when he touched down but later in the day he was able to link up with Baker and some of the other members of Third Squad.
Throughout Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 Corrion led his assault team (which at first consisted of only Private Desola) through several battles most notably being the crossing of Purple Heart Lane, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole's bayonet charge, the Battle of Carentan, and the defense of Hill 30. Of everyone in Third Squad, Corrion seemed to try the hardest to maintain peace within the squad when a traumatic event happened. He was the only one to defend Private Leggett when his squad mates blamed him for the deaths of Privates Allen and Garnett. Corrion possessed a strong feeling of companionship to everyone in the platoon.
[edit] Corrion's Assault Team
At no point in Road to Hill 30 did Corrion have his full assault team, which consisted of Private First Class Jack Courtland, Private Dale McCreary, Private Michael Desola, and himself.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
In the game Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood you get to see some of what Corrion experienced on the off missions of Road to Hill 30. Seeing the game through the eyes of Joe "Red" Hartsock you get to see that not everything was fine with Corrion. From having to hide in a cesspool to avoid German troops from seeing him, starting to question whether or not Baker was jinxed (though it could have been biased on Hartsock's part during the interview), and if anybody in Third Squad would make it back to England. According to the instruction manual for Earned in Blood, Corrion believed that he should have gotten the promotion to Sergeant over Hartsock. The last time you see Corrion during normal gameplay is in Carentan, and the last time you see him as a part of the story is when Hartsock finishes talking to Colonel S.L.A. Marshall and Corrion walks in to begin his story.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
It is unknown what kind of role Corrion will play in the storyline of Hell's Highway but it is obvious that he is still the leader of Baker's assault team.
[edit] Misc. Info
Corrion is one of the few characters in the games that never changed weapons at any point during the story. Corrion always used his Thompson submachine gun to good effect in every mission in which he was a part of. In screens for Hell's Highway he's still got his trusty Tommy Gun.
During the first cinematic of the original game you can hear Hartsock yell "Corrion's Hit!" This may be a reference to Private Muzza's death.
[edit] Seamus Doyle
Corporal Seamus Doyle is a fictional soldier from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms video game series. He is a secondary character that is important to the main story of Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. Doyle is voiced by Robert McCollum.
[edit] Doyle's Background
Seamus Doyle was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States. He was raised by his mother (he never knew his father, which is interesting because he was named after him) and lived also with his sister. Doyle arrived in Boston where it can be assumed is where he grew up until World War II began and he volunteered to become a paratrooper. Doyle is a very tough and dedicated soldier and is extremely friendly and is known to be a talking machine.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Doyle is a member of the famed 82nd Airborne Division and took part in the reclamation of Normandy from the German defenders. However during the drop Doyle was one of thousands of misdrops during the early morning of June 6, 1944. Doyle landed apparently with little trouble and ended up saving the life of Corporal Joe "Red" Hartsock (see: Sergeant Joe "Red" Hartsock) from the 101st Airborne Division and spent most of the early stages of D-Day with Hartsock and his unit until he was able to link up with the rest of the 82nd. During that time Doyle and Hartsock became best friends.
Afterwards, Doyle didn't meet up with Hartsock until the 101st and 82nd took the city of Baupte and by that time both Doyle and Hartsock had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. From then on out Hartsock and his squad helped Doyle and the 82nd push all the way to their objective at St. Sauveur, which was a strategically vital city that would pave the way for the 4th Infantry Division to take Cherbourg. During the assault on the city Doyle was leading Private Paige from Hartsock's squad and both were unfortunately killed by a single tank shell burst. The blast vaporized Doyle and Private Will Paige caught a piece of shrapnel and soon died from the sucking chest wound after pulling a disoriented Hartsock to safety. About the only thing that remained of Doyle was his 82nd Airborne patch which Hartsock found and fastened to his helmet.
[edit] Misc. Info
It isn't known whether or not Doyle took part in the 82nd Airborne's rocky first combat jump in Sicily or their second action in Salerno but it can be assumed that he did considering his rank as an NCO (non-commissioned officer). Doyle was issued the M1 Garand rifle which he used to good effect during D-Day and the following days after. Doyle also seemed to have a very strong friendship with Pvt. Paige and several other members from Hartsock's squad.
[edit] Dean Winchell
Dean Winchell | |
---|---|
???-??? | |
Nickname | Frair |
Rank | Private |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Private Dean Winchell is a fictional person from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. Winchell is a secondary person in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood and, supposedly, in Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. Friar is voiced by David Dennison.
[edit] Winchell's Past
Dean Winchell is a silent man that rarely speaks. Winchell joined the 101st Airborne Division. He was eventually moved to England with the rest of his unit to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, "Operation Overlord." At this time Winchell was a Private and was in the 2nd Squad's Assault Team. He earned his nickname during and accident with some clippers in training. Though laid back, he can be authoritative when the situation demands it.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Throughout Earned in Blood, Friar's and the second squad's story is told by Hartsock to Army historian S.L.A. Marshall. The first half of the story tells about missions that happened in between the normal missions in Road to Hill 30. Due to the terrible misdrops the airborne suffered Winchell was often stuck with members of other squads, mostly Red Hartsock and Lt.Col.Patrick Cassidy. He was forced to cooperate with some men from the other squads until after the battle of Hill 30, which lead to some organisation in the squads' formations. This was mostly due to the fact that 2nd Squad's Sergeant, Bixby, was killed during the drop. After D-Day, Hartsock and Frair, along with Paddock secured the village of St.Martin and cleared the church to use it as an hospital. As said, Winchell was a very quiet man but during action he was the one who screamed the most. One example was when Paddock, Marsh, Hartsock and Friar were on a bridge, under fire, and Paddock pleaded Winchell to follow him and retreat. He kept shouting at him until Winchell screamed at him back: "Why are you yelling at me Kansas boy? Fire at the fucking Germans!" which surprised everyone who heard him.
After Hartsock is promoted to 2nd Squad's leader the left overs from 1st Squad (Cpl. Jacob Campbell, Private Will Paige, and Private Derrick McConnell) Infact, the only surivivors of the second squad were Paddock, Winchell and Marsh.
He was fighting in Baupte, Carentan and Saint Saveur. Unfortunately while in Saint Sauveur he witnesses Doyle get vaporized by a tank shell from a Panzer tank. Paige saved Hartsock's life by pulling him out of the line of fire. Winchell gave them covering fire with the rest of the squad.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
In Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Hartsock, Baker, Paddock, Corrion and other characters take part in Operation Market Garden, and Winchell will probably be there in the 2nd squad's assault team.
[edit] Misc. information
Winchell is most often seen in the games using the M1A1 Carbine from the early stages of D-Day to the later stages of the battle of Normandy.
[edit] Derrick McConnell
Derrick McConnell | |
---|---|
???-??? | |
Rank | Private |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Private Derrick McConnell is a fictional person from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. McConnell is a secondary person in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood.
[edit] McConnell's Past
McConnell is a young man from Florida. He travelled all around the state with his father and his joining the 101st Airborne Division seemed to be the first time he ever separated from him. He was moved to England to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, "Operation Overlord." At this time McConnell was a Private and lead 1st Squad's Assault Team. He was a close friend of Paige.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Due to the terrible misdrops the airborne suffered McConnell was often stuck with members of 2nd Squad. He is seen once with Cpl.Campbell, Private Will Paige and Col.Johnson, when he was still part of the 1st squad, that was broken apart: the only survivors were him, Cpl.Campbell and Pvt.Paige.
After Hartsock is promoted to 2nd Squad's leader, McConnell was part of the assault team along with Pvt.Winchell and Cpl.Paddock
When Corporal Seamus Doyle from the 82nd recruited Paige for a recon mission, McConnell insisted to come with him because "if there's someone who's gonna shoot at Paige, It's gonna be me".
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Probably will still be in the assault team of Hartsock's squad.
[edit] Misc. Info
McConnell is most often seen in the games using the M1A1 carbine from the early stages of D-Day to the later stages of the battle of Normandy, even though he is rarley seen holding another weapon.
[edit] Thomas Zanovich

??? - ??? | |
Nickname | Zano, Tom |
Rank | Private First Class |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Private First Class Tom Zanovich, or "Zano", is a fictional person from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. Zanovich is a secondary person in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.
[edit] Zanovich's Past
Tom "Zano" Zanovich ran away from home at age 16 and served in the French Foreign Legion. Zanovich fought as an infantryman in the 13th Demi-Brigade (Battalion) of the Foreign Legion at Narvik and Bjervik in Norway. Was at Dunkirk in 1940 and, with his enlistment up, made his way back to the US to join the US Army after December 7, 1941. Zanovich joined the 101st Airborne Division and was eventually moved to England with the rest of his unit to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, "Operation Overlord." At this time Zanovich was a Private First Class and was in the 3rd Squad's Fire Team. Zanovich, and Pfc.Obrieski were good friends and usually discussed if they would ever return to their families.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
High above the Normandy coast, 3rd Squad was getting set to jump behind enemy lines from their C-47 transport planes when the German defenders began to open up with anti-air artillery. So much flak was generated but the inexperienced pilots began to fly to low and/or fast and began to break formation which scattered the 101st Airborne all over Normandy. Zanovich's plane was no exception. As they were waiting for the green light to jump, Sergeant Baker was knocked out of the plane by a flak burst, at which time Platoon Sergeant "Mac" Hassay ordered the squad out of the plane.
Zanovich is found by Baker and Hartsock only on D-Day+3, during Purple Heart Lane battle.
He was one of the three (along with Cpl.Hartsock and Pfc. Obrieski) to follow Sergeant Matt Baker to save Lt.Combs, one of the few officers surviving, stuck in a hedgerow, before Carentan.
[edit] Zanovich's Fire Team
At no point during D-Day did Hartsock have his full Fire Team which would have included Private Larry Allen, Pvt. Michael Garnett, Pfc. Stephan "Obi" Obrieski, Pfc. Tom Zanovich, and Pvt. David Muzza. Pvt. Finally, Pfc. Obrieski was killed by a sniper in Carentan. In fact, Pfc. Zanovich was the sole survivor, and it is likely that he took over the Fire Team after Hartsock was promoted (Zanovich is seen leading the team in the debut trailer and bootlegged videos of Gearbox's Hell's Highway demonstration).
Even through all of this Zanovich will probably be a very good team leader, with his ten years of experience and his results of his incredible feats during D-Day.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
In Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Hartsock and Baker take part in Operation Market Garden, an operation that ultimately failed. Zanovich is seen leading the fire team of the 3rd squad.
[edit] Misc. Info
Zanovich is most often seen in the games wielding an M1 Garand rifle.
[edit] William Paige

???-16 June 1944 | |
Nickname | Will |
Rank | Private |
Unit | Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment |
Private William Paige is a fictional person from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series. Paige is a secondary person in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. Paige is voiced by Chad Cline.
[edit] Paige's Past
William Paige is a sarcastic young man. Paige joined the 101st Airborne Division and was eventually moved to England with the rest of his unit to train for the initial invasion of Normandy, "Operation Overlord." At this time Paige was a Private and was part of 1st Squad's Fire Team. Paige was not very well known for his being friendly. He usually teased, mocked and bullied the other soldiers, and was known for being a terrible hothead. Only Private Derrick McConnell was friends with him.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
Throughout Earned in Blood,Paige and the second squad's story is told by Hartsock to Army historian S.L.A. Marshall. The first half of the story tells about missions that happened in between the normal missions in Road to Hill 30. Due to the terrible misdrops the airborne suffered Paige was often stuck with members of 3rd Squad. He is seen once with Cpl.Campbell and Col.Johnson, when he was still part of the 1st squad, that was broken apart: the only survivors were him, Cpl.Campbell and Pvt.McConnell . In D-Day+1, he is seen mocking and insulting some German prisoners, pushing them with his weapon. He would have beaten them if Campbell wasn't there to calm him down.
After Hartsock is promoted to 2nd Squad's leader, Paige was part of the fire team along with Pfc.Marsh and Cpl.Campbell.
Paige and the second squad helped Cpl. Doyle and the 82nd to capture and clear the strategically important city of St. Sauveur, France. Unfortunately while in St. Sauveur Doyle gets vaporized by a tank shell from a Panzer tank. Paige saved Hartsock's life by pulling him out of the line of fire, before dying in front of the Sergeant. He had a bad sucking wound to the chest, where his heart was exposed. He mumbles to Hartsock about his dying condition and using up all of his strength to save the sergeant as he leans on the wall losing blood from the wound and from the mouth.
[edit] Misc. Info
Paige is seen in the games using the M1 Garand in the early stages of D-Day. When Hartsock takes him under his command, he apperently swaps his rifle with a Thompson M1A1. Strangley enough he is part of Hartsock's fire team handling an assault weapon.
[edit] Larry Allen and Michael Garnett
Privates Larry Allen & Michael Garnett are two characters from Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms series.
[edit] Background Info
Private Larry (James) Allen is a young soldier from Connecticut and enlisted in the US Army right after highschool rather than wait to be drafted. During the early days of training Allen developed a strong and unbreakable friendship with Garnett and haven't been seen apart since.
Private Michael (Jeff) Garnett is a self described "boy from Nowhere, Kentucky." Garnett worked as a dock worker on the Ohio River before enlisting in the Army. As described above, he met Allen during the first week of boot camp.
These two sharpshooters from 3rd Squad's Fire Team are the practical jokesters of the platoon. They always have a sly and sarcastic remark for every situation and seem to pride themselves on that fact. This is something that often gets on the nerves of Platoon Sergeant Greg "Mac" Hassay whom always clamps down on them after every smart mouth remark, though he seems to take special pleasure in making an example of Private Allen whom is the bigger loudmouth of the two.
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
High above the Normandy coast 3rd Squad was set to jump into German occupied France. Their C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft was hit by flak and the entire squad was forced to jump prematurely. Despite the fact most of the squad was scattered badly, both Privates Allen and Garnett somehow managed to stay together and met up with Sergeant Matt Baker and Corporal Joe "Red" Hartsock (see: Sergeant Joe "Red" Hartsock) during the early morning hours of June 6, 1944. Together they managed to stop retreating German soldiers retreating from Utah Beach. From there they proceeded on to help secure Objective XYZ among other notable accomplishments.
Allen and Garnett both had a rivalry with Pfc. Leggett after an argument over comic book superheroes.
Allen:I'm just sayin' man, statistically, Superman would break Batman in half. Leggett: Are you calling the Bat-a-rang a sissy toy? Garnett:With a name like Bat-a-rang, who would he's a sissy toy? Allen:He can melt thing with his eyes, Leggett, HIS EYES! Leggett:Well, I happen to like super heroes with a brain. And atleast Batman has a cool secret identity. All Superman does is put on glasses and acts like a jackass! Garnett: It's a wonder why you don't like him, Leggett! Mac:Enough you three, there's enough bullshit here to fill a pool. Garnett: Why would anyone wanna fill a pool with- Mac: DON'T!
However later on in the campaign they were forced to go with Leggett under his command to flank an enemy held farm outside of Purple Heart Lane. The three became surrounded and both Allen and Garnett were killed, Leggett survived but faced the animosity of his squad mates. How they died still remains a mystery, but recent rumors have emerged that we might hear how in Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway
[edit] Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood
In Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood Allen and Garnett appear during the early stages of the game under the command of Hartsock. They still bring their unique brand of sarcastic humor to the game before their unfortunate and untimely deaths. Allen and Garnett have only been separated once in Earned in Blood, during the "Hell's Corner" mission.
[edit] Misc. Info
Both Allen and Garnett are equipped with the M1 Garand rifle for nearly every mission they are in. However, during the level "Objective XYZ," Allen has a Thompson submachine gun and at the end of the level use a Bazooka to very poor effect (they missed a rather easy first shot and were nearly killed because of it). Allen and Garnett were inseparable throughout every thing they experienced, including the battle that killed both of them. It's also interesting to note that Allen and Garnett's names in Road to Hill 30 are listed as "Larry" and "Michael" but in Earned in Blood they're listed as "James" and "Jeff". The death letters between Allen and Garnett's parents are viewed as unlockables in Earned In Blood.
