There originally was only twelve numbers but because of his superior skill he became thirteen and was given his weapon by chronos number one. Train has his Roman numeral number engraved on his chest and his weapon also has the number on it.

[edit] Sven Vollfied

Main article: Sven Vollfield

Sven Vollfield is a sweeper and Train's partner. He befriends Eve and treats her like a person instead of a weapon. He, Eve and Train work together. He has an eye that can see five minutes ahead but it puts a strain on him. He has a good eye for details, noticing Rinslet's gun and wig when he first met her. He never leaves a woman in need. Train (black cat) is his best pal alive. In the series he visits his old partners grave on the anniversary of his death. Originally Sven could not see into the future, but during an accident, he lost an eye and had one donated to him by his first partner, who could control the ability much better than Sven can.

[edit] Eve

Main article: Eve

Eve is a genetically engineered bio-weapon and young girl. She uses nanotechnology to transform her body. At this point she can only change her arm, but she is supposed to be able to transform her body when she grows. She has to picture something to do it. Raised like a lab rat, Sven treats her like a real person and opens up her world. Sven takes her as his real daughter and has a really soft spot for her. Eve has since become a regular character in Yabuki Kentaro's To-LOVE-Ru - Trouble since issue 35.

[edit] Other characters

Annette Pierce

In the Manga

Annette is an information broker and former sweeper who seems to have some old ties with Sven. She operates the Cait-Sith Cafe, an occasional haunt of Train and his companions. The name of her cafe, Cait Sith is a mythological reference. She is beaten up by Durham when he comes looking for Train for a duel and not finds him around.

In the Anime

Voiced by: Shoko Tsuda (Japanese), Judy O'Laughlin (English)

Pretty much the same, except Durham in the anime does not meet her.

[edit] Saya Minatsuki

  • In the Manga

A Sweeper who found and helped Train when he was injured. She introduced him to a new world, so to speak, and helped him become the man he is now. Their relationship was deep, and (according to Train) wasn't romantic, but may have been given more time. As the manga progresses, we learn more about Saya and her relationship with Train, as well as about Train's childhood and traumatic past. Her weapon of choice in both the manga and anime is a Beretta 93R, and her special technique was ricocheting bullets at different angles and velocities.

  • In the Anime

Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (Japanese), Caitlin Glass (English)

Saya appeared suddenly to Train on a rooftop one night, and the two of them shared a strange friendship that spanned only a few days. Still, those few days seemed to be enough to cause a change in Train. Saya influenced Train to do what he wanted to do and live freely, which causes Train to decide not to follow Chrono's orders anymore, as he leaves. Creed, who admired Train's way of killing and felt a paranoic obsession with Train, watches from afar until he gets the chance to one day meet with Saya when Train's not around, and kill her. Except for the timeline changes, the situation between Saya and Train is pretty much the same as in the manga.

[edit] Tanya

In the Manga

Appears once in the manga during a special chapter which occurred after the events of the main story. She was shown in a single panel serving Sven and co. as a waitress.

In the Anime

Voiced by: Tomoe Hanba (Japanese), Trina Nishimura (English)

Tanya is a waitress that Sven met once before. By pure coincidence, Tanya constantly switches jobs and moves to different cities at around the same time that Train, Sven and Eve arrive at that same city. She is a constant source of free food for Train and company. She usually calls Eve Sven's daughter.

[edit] Tearju Lunatique

  • In the Manga

A renowned nanomachinery and biology researcher with an IQ over 200, Dr. Tearju is the source of Eve's DNA. She is a poor cook, and slightly clumsy as well. Although she is the human Eve was cloned from, Tearju's eye color is green but Eve's is violet.

  • In the Anime

Voiced by: Fukuen Misato (Japanese)

She is shown in the final part of the story. She had amnesia and was forced to wake when Sven and Rinslet showed her a picture of Eve. Her eyes are also the same color as Eve's (violet) instead of being green like in the manga. She also doesn't show any of her trademark characteristics (bad cooking and clumsiness), as she appears right in the final part of the plot.

[edit] Woodney

In the Manga

Woodney is a character with a few extra pounds who attempts to imitate Train by dressing in black, referring to himself as the "Black Cat" and having a "thirteen" tattoo (albeit in Arabic numerals, drawn and erased everyday though not always on the same arm) He meets with moderate success as a sweeper by using the Black Cat's reputation to intimidate his enemies, but this tactic can backfire when he is faced with powerful criminals. After an encounter with the real Train, he gives up imitating him and attempts to become his disciple, but Train convinces him he would help more by being an informer to them.

In the Anime

Voiced by: Bon Ishihara (Japanese), Jeremy Inman (English)

In the Anime, the only main difference in Woodney is that he keeps on following the group, instead of turning into an information broker, and is the cause of some humorous moments. Unlike in the manga, Woodney caught on faster to realize that Train is Black Cat. He appears to have a crush on Silphy in their first meeting.

[edit] Zaguine Axeloake

  • In the Manga

Zaguine was a hired assassin who killed Train's parents. As he did not know they had a child, he didn't plan on meeting Train, and so gave him the chance to live. Train lived with him, under a strict and demanding training, in order to survive. It was during his childhood that Train got his signature characteristics: Drinking milk and developing cat-like reflexes. Zaguine later died, leaving Train to be on his own, and told him that to survive in this world, he would have to be the best. That is when Train started improving himself in order to become "the best".

  • In the Anime

Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (Japanese), Christopher Sabat (English)

Same as in the manga, except Train is influenced by Zaguine when he reaches Eden, and confronts a "ghost" of Zaguine. Nevertheless, he faces him and doesn't let his words bring him down.

[edit] Cleaver

In the Manga

Cleaver is a Chronos eraser that idolized Train. After Train left Chronos, many years later, while working as a sweeper, Train meets Cleaver, that was ordered by Chronos to either bring Train back, as the Black Cat, or eliminate him. Train tries to talk Cleaver into not trying, but Cleaver draws his weapon and is about to shoot him. Train used his Hades to kill Cleaver before he can fire. It is than shown that Cleaver always aspired to be like Train during his Chronos days.

In the Anime

Cleaver does not appear in the Anime.

[edit] Karl Walken

In the Manga

Karl Walken is a Chronos leader (Non-number, however) that is also the mayor of Rubeck City. He was the one who raised Train after Zaguine's death, and he asks for Train's help (Together with Sven and Eve) to hunt down Gyanza Rujike.

In the Anime

In the Anime, Karl Walken does not make an appearance.

[edit] Gyanza Rujike

In the Manga

Gyanza Rujike is a criminal that was released from prison by Creed and offered a position in the Apostles of the Stars. While he initially accepts the offer, he leaves the group once his Tao powers develop because he does not care about Creed's revolution. He soon after becomes a serial killer in Rubeck City, enjoying the thrill of hunting and killing humans, especially children, leaving the city paralysed by fear. Using his Tao power, "Muscle", he can increase the size, strength, and density of his muscles, making himself strong enough to kill entire squadrons of police and deflect bullets with his skin. Train is sent to capture him and the two fight, but Gyanza uses all of his chi to keep up with Train and dies after being scolded by Charden for using his power so foolishly.

In the Anime

Voiced by: Masuo Amada (Japanese), Chris Rager (English)
Pretty much the same thing.

[edit] Rugato Won

In the manga

Rugato Won appears in the manga as an assassin with a large bounty on his head. He is hired to kill Madame Freesia, a rich woman who is holding a banquet that Train attends with Rinslet early in the manga. He believes assassination is a form of art, and fights unarmed in a martial-arts style. Rugato battles Train, who tries to turn him in for a reward, but the fight is interrupted. Later, he decides not to kill Madame Freesia even when he has the perfect chance, and tells Train he will return when he is stronger to kill him. However, he never appears again.

In the anime

Rugato doesn't appear in the anime.

[edit] Adam

  • In the Manga

Adam does not appear in the manga, as the Eden plot does not take place

  • In the Anime

Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue
Adam is the program that controls the giant machine Eden, that will grant "Eternal peace" to the world, and consists of transforming every person into a creature without strength of will and control of his/her decisions. Adam, inside Eden's chamber, takes the form of a boy, that tries to convince Eve into resonating with Eden. This subplot makes various references to the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve.
