2004 Was a year of 'feats' for Australian television ratings:
- The Seven Networks worst-ever share result in all markets and in the combined 5-City share.
- For the first time since the introduction of 'People Meters' in 1991; Seven finished third behind Ten in the markets of Melbourne and Adelaide.
- The Nine Network (Despite huge win) experienced it's lowest ever 5-City share; the first time below the 30% mark. It experienced lowest ever shares in the markets of Sydney and Adelaide.
- The Ten Network experienced it's best ever 5-City share since the introduction of 'People Meters'; experienced best ever shares in the markets of Sydney, Melbourne (finishing 2nd overall), Brisbane and Adelaide (finishing 2nd overall).
- The ABC experienced it's best ever 5-City share and also best ever shares in all of the capital markets.
[edit] Highest Rating Programs
Reality television claimed the top spot in the 2004 television ratings, with Network Ten's Australian Idol and Big Brother claiming the top spots. Sport also rated highly, with the AFL, Melbourne Cup and Olympics rating in the top ten programs for the year. The 46th Annual TV Week Logie Awards was the only non-sport/non-reality entry in the top 10.
