List of Armenian national heroes

This is a list of historical and legendary personalities who are considered national heroes of Armenian national movement to many in Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora.

Historical:

Haik - Legendary Armenian patriarch.
David of Sasun - Legendary hero who defeated the invading Arabs.
Artaxias I - Founder of the Armenian Artaxiad Kingdom.
Tigranes the Great - Armenian Emperor who conquered lands up to modern day Akko, Israel.
Ruben I of Armenia - Founder of the Armenian principality of Cilicia
Leo II of Armenia - Converted the Armenian Principality of Cilicia to a Kingdom.
Vartan Mamikonian - 5th century general who led his army in the Battle of Avarayr.
Mesrob Mashdots - Inventor of the Armenian alphabet.
Theodoros Rshtuni - Armenian prince that defended Armenia against the invading Arabs in the 6th century.
Israel Ori - Prominent figure of the Armenian national liberation movement in the 17th century.
Joseph Emin - Prominent figure of the Armenian national liberation movement in the 18th century.
David Bek - Leading Armenian general of 18th century.

Andranik Toros Ozanian - World War I general and fedayee.
Garegin Njdeh - WWI general and fedayee.
Serob Aghpur - Armenian fedayee.
Movses Silikyan - Armenian general; commanded alongside General Dro the Battle of Sardarapat, the Battle of Bash Abaran and the Aleksandropol front to victories against the larger and stronger Ottoman army.
Khrimian Hayrik - Catholicos, notable for his staunch demand for reforms during Ottoman rule.
Aram Manougian - Founder of the Democratic Republic of Armenia; patriot and revolutionary
Avetis Aharonian - Chairman of Armenian National Council, declared independence and signed Treaty of Sevres.
General Dro - controversial fedayee and later general who fought for Armenia in numerous wars and insurgencies.
Soghomon Tehlirian - An Armenian Genocide survivor who assassinated Talat Pasha in 1921.
Monte Melkonian - Armenian-American general in Nagorno-Karabakh War, led his unit to strategic victories.
