Lisbellaw

The village is built around the (Church of Ireland) parish church, which stands high at its centre and dates from the 18th century. The steep, tight main street houses a grocery shop, a hairdressing salon, two pubs, a Post Office, a dentists surgery, an estate agents, a beauty salon and a hardware store, as well as the (Church of Ireland) Parish Centre, the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. The Roman Catholic Church building and a Brethren Gospel Hall lie just of the main street. Just outside the village is Carrybridge, a marina on Upper Lough Erne.

Lisbellaw is classified as a village by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 1,000 and 2,250 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 1,046 people living in Lisbellaw. Of these:

24.0% were aged under 16 years and 16.7% were aged 60 and over
48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female
7.3% were from a Catholic background and 91.9% were from a Protestant background
5.7% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed

The Annals of Ulster - a chronicle of medieval Ireland - were compiled in the late 15th century by the scribe Ruaidhri Ó Luinín on Belle Isle near Lisbellaw.

In 1968 a Rainbow Trout fish of 8lb 7oz the Irish record, caught on Lough Eyes, Lisbellaw, Co. Fermanagh.
