[edit] Wikiproject Australian Fauna

Thanks for joining WP Australian Fauna your help is much appreciated. Please don't hesitate to do anything that may help the project and once again, welcome! Atlantis Hawk 09:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Damn, I forgot all about the move function. Oh well, thanks for alerting me and I'll remember about it next time I need to move a page. Atlantis Hawk 07:16, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Australian biota

I'm thinking I'll wait and see what others think before continuing the discussion there as I dont want people to think we are hijacking the project or those articles. Gnangarra 14:52, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

thanks, I think only about 12 hours to go. it suprising how quickly misinformation about snakes spreads only found 1 site out of 59 that said anything other than locals but its an incomplete list. I think its one those day in the library researching it on paper to resolve. Gnangarra 15:18, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA thanks

I would like to express my appreciation of the time you spent considering my successful RfA. Thankyou Gnangarra 12:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Froggydarb/ausfroglist

Yep, I don't mind what you do with it (or anyone else), I made it just to keep a track on what articles have been done, but haven't got around to updating it. -- Froggydarb croak 20:27, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fauna, or Flora of the World

I claim no insight to the "answers to the problems". I worked on all the fauna flora avifauna/birds trees as of 20 days ago, turning into the Caribbean from Central America, then reversing and doing S. Amer. And I went back to the Caribbean, kind of going by island, now in the Greater Antilles looking at the links to the Jamaica page(there are 63, 50 item pages linked, so it takes some hours and looking at pages, putting things into categories). If I had been asked, I would have said I wouldn't have dared to try to do the Caribbean. But you will see some of the pages ended up as "by islands" to clear out the "Main" page, and then there can still be some "ambiquities". So, it has been a work in progress,. ....... I did start with the states of Western US, and then started the subcaategories, like: Category:Avifauna of Southwestern United States, or ...Category:Trees of Northwestern United States. Then i did all the Canadian Provinces, (and then put them in "by province", and I have been doing that for Mexico "by state". So, i am just trying to keep it all organized, and logical. I have no final answers. I do know one thing that happened in the US stuff, so I left it, for a couple of reasons. And I did start: Category:Trees of the Amazon. there is: plenty of work to continue doing. Michael, in the Sonoran Desert. --Mmcannis 04:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

You are overlooking a major item (and as i noted, Oceania, is Not a continent). If you look at Category:Fauna of South America by region, you will find the Guianas, the only "Land" subsection, at the moment for S. America. I originally had them s.Amer by country, then realized Tierra del Fuego, and then Falkland Islands, are the only two other logical items. So i put all the countries then under "by region". Chile and Tierra d Fue are listed together. Other items are listed together(in the Caribbean especially). The overlooked point is, "by Continent" doesn't mean everything just slides into "by Continent" because it is a continent. Eurasia, and Oceania(with a subset for East Indies?), then Caribbean, C. Amer. The only other area I think one could come up with is maybe the Mediterranean, to include Azores, and Canary Island. Michael in Arizona-(I have to go to work tomorrow, so it to bed with myself).(and thanks for listening at least)(after re-reading, so maybe "Mediterranean", and "east indies"/w/its countries therefore)--Mmcannis 04:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
::Methinks this issue we've been discussing elsewhere is cropping up all over the place all of a sudden! I wonder if there's an equivalent standard for fauna. Hesperian 04:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm hoping so. It may be of worth to invite Mmcannis to the discussion at Australian biota if we want to dramatically change how the Flora by continent will be done. (Sorry about replying here, but both of you are here). --liquidGhoul 04:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

LiquidGhoul, thought you'ld be interested in newly discovered frogs and more. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling 13:22, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin revert

Regarding this revert, I'm not so sure that was vandalism. As far as I recall, the rule of thumb is to only use admin revert in cases of obvious vandalism, which this was not. Whether the addition was worth keeping or not is another story and I am not qualified to comment as to that, I just wanted to remind you to be careful with those admin tools. [edit] Request

Dear LiquidGhoul,

I noticed that you have a lot of experience with getting articles to FA status. I have been working on the Ohio Wesleyan University page article and am trying to get it to FA status. I was wondering if you could provide some advice on how the article can be improved? Also, any contributions to it will be even more appreciated! Thank you so much for your time! I greatly appreciate it! WikiprojectOWU 01:48, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reward Board - $10 for each plant or animal FA................................

Hey Evan, have you seen this reward board? [[1]]

- I have just nominated Diplodocus as an FAC and Kangaroo is aussie collab of the fortnight. I did a couple of edits but the task looks too big. I asked Hesperian when to nominate Banksia epica (which must be on the cusp).....cheers Cas Liber 10:05, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

I am thinking that it may be in the 'too hard' basket for a fortnight and I must say my heart isn't really in it. I was keeping an eye on it to see how many others are editing it too. Cas Liber 06:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually a lot of people are starting to hoe into it. Maybe possible.... I just gave someone some advice on Snow leopard, which looks further along the way....Cas Liber 06:43, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ITN

Hello, LiquidGhoul.

I won't say this on Talk:MainPage (too public), but I have trouble justifying the strict enforcement of ITN guidelines at the same time when so many people are actively (the past few days) asking at Talk:ITN that the guidelines be changed. Ignoring guidelines is bad. Enforcing guidelines widely considered inadequate is also bad. I ain't arguing to keep the line. I simply decided that it's best to leave things as is. I hope you understand.

I didn't add the line about Ford onto ITN. And I don't have strong enough a reason to take it off. It should be there, but it's not a strong case. I'd rather displace it sooner with better ITN materials, e.g. the war in Somalia. --PFHLai 18:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply: Dead frog

Earlier I had questions about my red eyed treefrog's death and you asked for more information. The frog was miscolored and he looked very much alive when he was actually dead. His eyes were closed and he was hanging upside down on a leaf. I spray the terrarium several times a day and came to do this and after I sprayed he fell from the the leaf to the ground. He had already been dead while on the leaf and was very stiff. I have no photos, as I try not to make a habit of photographing dead pets. His appetite seemed normal. In November we took him to the vet because of some unusual spots on his back. The vet said this was from humidity being too low, and we kept humidity extra high and the spots went away. As for the Green Treefrog, she is very active at night and seems to be in perfect health. I already cleaned the terrarium and she is living there. Thank you for your time and get back to me whenever you get the chance. BrandiniTheGreat 03:12, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure my frog had ranavirus? I did some reseach and most websites say that ranavirus, known as "red-leg" here in America, also show symptoms of swelling, bloating, and redness on the body in some species. And when I said he was discolored, I meant dark green not red. And he did not seem lethargic in any way. My frog, Jerry, showed none of these symptoms. And Janet, the green tree frog, seems healthier than ever. And if it was red-leg, if Jerry had it, although it takes a while to take hold, should have killed him a long time ago. He was fairly young. Could it be possible that it was just his time to go? Thanks again, BrandiniTheGreat 18:02, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Frogs

Sadly I only have pictures of motorbike frogs - I know we do have banjo frogs somewhere because I can hear them, but have never seen one (or if I have, haven't been able to distinguish it). Most of my pictures are pretty average though - all ours are babies. I've got a few unusual ones though like 9 newly-metamorphised ones scrambling for a place in the sun on a single reed, and of course the one I linked on Fred's page. Orderinchaos78 11:17, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Goes without saying that if you want to use my delinquent frog picture, feel free :) Orderinchaos78 11:23, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Two more that I'm genuinely not sure what species they are - [2] and [3] - desc *sounds* like a banjo frog but it could be a motorbike one. Orderinchaos78 11:46, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Found a way to upload it - it's at a link from my talk page Orderinchaos78 12:12, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WA frogs

Very glad I got your attention. I have been manually inserting the newly created cat;

and populate it with unique (mostly!) West Australian inhabitants. Can I claim the overseas and WA frogs for the glory of the project!? :)

Everyone is welcome to join, or just visit, WikiProject Western Australia. Please look over my edits and I will try to track down photos. Pls leave requests for image experts at WP:WA. Non expert, just like frogs. Fred 12:00, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Precisely. It is a new project with many fine wikipedians active, some in image. Not me. I will have a go at adding to the commons when I can speak to non wiki reseachers.
Regarding your first point; I thought, probably mistakenly, that I read of a sp. that existed in Indonesia, NW Australia and QLD. I suppose it was a family if not species. Fred 12:49, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Cheers for info. I will return to this topic later. Sorry I don't have page name of sp. or more probably family. Be sure to let you know indo connection. I can send you a copy of my page history if you are able to search the pages. I may remember tomorrow and try this. Regards Fred 13:08, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Here is ref: Northern Dwarf Tree Frog
  • (Litoria bicolor) is a small species of tree frog native to northern Australia, from the Kimberly region of Western Australia to Bowen, Queensland and Aru Islands of Indonesia. The population occurring in Indonesia may not be Litoria bicolor and research on call structure or genetics is needed to confirm its taxonomic status.
I sent an email - Will try to get something - and follow up soon! SatuSuro 14:05, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Green Tree Frog Care

I moved my article to another wiki. Do not worry because lots and lots of research has gone towards this. I am glad you are concerned about the well-being of these creatures. But if you hate my article so much go ahead and delete it if you really want to. BrandiniTheGreat 23:18, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
