User:Lioux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lioux is a nickname invented by Emily Bacon for Leo Jackson. While hanging out, Emily decided that Leo needed a name that was pronounced the same way as his name, but that was spelled with a silent (unpronounced) "X". Taking a suggestion to base the name on the word "Sioux", "Lioux" was invented.
[edit] Pronunciation
"Lioux" is pronounced exactly like the name "Leo", despite it's spelling being very similar to the word "Sioux", whose pronunciation is much more akin to the name "Sue".
[edit] Rumored French Basis
Lioux is also the name of a hamlet in Provence, France. This fact was unknown to both Emily and Leo at the time of creation of this nickname, and thus cannot be the basis for this name.
