I would basically remove everything that is not notable, and fan sites. If the fan site is reputable and "big" so to say, keep it. But other then that just follow WP:NOT and WP:EL. Havok (T/C/c) 10:36, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Matt Wertz & Dave Barnes

G'day, I noticed you created Matt Wertz's Wiki page. I was wondering, have you heard of Dave Barnes? You might notice I've used an offsite link. That's because there's no Wiki page for him. He's a musician who's (as yet) more successful than Wertz, but of the same ilk as him. I'd like to start the page but, frankly, I don't know much about him and am a moderate google ninja, but I notice you seem to be pretty good at getting info. My main question (or, more a request): Do you want to create the page? I'd be more than happy to pitch in where I can (generally, I pay more attention to the design of the pages than to the content, so I'd suck at starting it... primarily, you'd probably notice I'm mostly started up templates or stubs). --lincalinca 08:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)!

I have heard of Dave Barnes... in fact, I met him once after a Matt/Dave concert here in Boston :o) I haven't done a page yet for him because
  • I don't know too much about him
  • I didn't know he was as notable (WP:N) as Matt. I knew Matt toured nationally with some famous artists, but I had just thought that Dave Barnes was only touring with Matt... which I don't think would fly here at WP. Now that I'm reading the bio on his site though, there's no doubt in my mind that he's notable enough.
I'll take a look and see if I can come up with anything. Any help is appreciated! tiZom(2¢) 14:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

G'day Tom, Though I'd mention that I got off my laurels and decided to make up the Dave Barnes page after all. Please check it out and tell me what you think. And make any adjustments that you can find. Funny as it might sound, I can't find any reference to his date of birth anywhere. Plus, the page still needs some work, particularly in the touring, personal life, christian life and other sections. In short, it's still a stub, but it's on its way now. If you know or can find his DOB, please update the page. ta --lincalinca 09:26, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey that's great! Sorry for not getting around to it - "real life" has got me busy. At any rate, you seem to know more about him than I do, so can I suggest that you add something that proves that Barnes is notable? For example, with Wertz's page, I was sure to include bands that he'd toured with. It's important, because if the WP community doesn't see that he's notable, then the page might get AFD'd. I'll keep an eye on the page. tiZom(2¢) 21:43, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey, Thanks for getting back to me on that. I've just done some extra info adding and things are looking in pretty good shape with the Dave Barnes page. All of my searches have yeilded me much information, so the page has had a bit more of an infoboost and, more importantly, a real notability boost. Still, if you have anything to add to the page, though, feel free to. you may notice that I've touched up Matt Wertz page just with the infobox and discog and uploaded all of the album covers for you over there. Thanks again! --lincalinca 07:59, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

A few things about the images:
  • First of all, I reverted the smaller image you had for the CD cover - we're supposed to be using low-resolution images for CD covers.
  • Second, I took the CD cover image off of Dave Barnes' page because CD cover images can only be used on pages that talk specifically about the album in question. This leads me to a question: Do you have a picture of Dave Barnes in concert? Something like that would be better to use in this situation.
See Template:albumcover for more information.
I hate to be the one fixing this and teling you about it, but I suppose you'd rather hear it from me than some user bot in the future. :o) tiZom(2¢) 00:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Good comment on Rove. You should have seen some of the vandalism and criticism that the article used to get until it got a few watchers! He seems to split people fairly evenly into the like/hate camps. --Steve 22:25, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Moor link on your userpage

Hi, the link you have about your Moorish ancestry points to Moor, which is a disambiguation page. The page about the group of people called the Moors is at Moors. I'd change it myself for you but that last user I did that for got mad. Thanks! Brad T. Cordeiro 00:25, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Certification template

I would be delighted to help. But first I have a few questions. By making it in MediaWiki, do you mean using SVG? Or do you mean using the correct syntax (the one you have might not work, I think)? Either way I could probably help. If you want to make a draft to go over ideas, you can make a subpage of my username, or yours. And about making the image appear multiple times - yes it is absolutely possible (using {{#if:), but yes it is messy. It is messy or more specifically tedious, to code the template like that (it would be easy to embed it still). It would be worth it for the fact that it looks better but it would be impossible to give it a limitless cap (i.e. there would have to be a max number of times) - Рэдхот(tce) 12:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

A single template would be best. But also, unless you make the images in SVG, they will get recreated very soon. If you want, you could make some in raster and I can try to convert them as accurately as possible to SVG. In case you don't have a clue what I mean, see raster and vector. Also, I think the template will have to be usable for more than just RIAA. Only RIAA wouldn't be neutral. - Рэдхот(tce) 12:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Well {{certification}} and {{cert}} are available. If you want you could also try doing the vectors yourself in Inkscape, but I'm happy to make them if you want. And yes, it is possible to layer them with partial transparency if you want. - Рэдхот(tce) 12:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh, also {{sales}} is available but I'm afraid the name might be a bit too vague. - Рэдхот(tce) 12:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I have a draft available at User:RedHotHeat/certtest. It works as {{User:RedHotHeat/certtest|TYPE|# OF TIMES}}. It currently only does gold and platinum (no images, but it shows a link where the images would be, allowing to use as proof of concept). Gold only allows up to 2×, right now, and platinum only goes up to 4× and uses seperate images. But btw, these limits may have increased by the time you read this. Also, before you upload the images, could you run the names you're gonna use by me? (The reason is, depending on how they're named, it makes the coding easier or harder). - Рэдхот(tce) 15:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
And if you could give me a sneak peak of the images by e-mail, before you upload them, that would be great (use ģbŏŇňêř689 AT ĜṂáǐL DOT com - ignoring all accents, and delete after use) Thanks. I've also moved the talk the talk about this, from my talk page, to User talk:RedHotHeat/certtest. - Рэдхот(tce) 15:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Album covers are fair use

Fair use images such as album covers aren't allowed in templates, whether thumbnailed or not. Wikipedia:Fair use criteria point nine says, "Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages." (Emphasis mine.) I'd also advise you to read Wikipedia:Civility before you say things like "you've just made a pain of yourself". Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 18:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:DaveBarnesMay06.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DaveBarnesMay06.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:STUDIO60TITLECARD.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:STUDIO60TITLECARD.svg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 02:09, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please don't change Lucy's name

Her name is KENWRIGHT. If you don't believe me, go to 16:29 in the episode "B-12." Matt walks into the room and introduces her as "Lucy Kenwright," NOT "Kenworthy." The two sound nothing alike and I just checked this instant on my iPod. Please don't change her name again. Nerrolken 07:42, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

I apologize if I sounded uncivil, I was frustrated after changing so many pages. I do, however, apologize.
As for your points, I have just checked the credits of the show, and I can't find her being listed at all. I checked "B-12," the episode in which the quote to which I referred originated, "Nevada Day pt II," the first episode in which she played a noticable role, and the Pilot, the first episode in which she appeared at all. She's not listed on NBC's website or the fictional website for Studio 60 on NBS. Which credits are you referring to?
And IMDB lists her as Kenworthy in some, but as Kenwright in The Christmas Show, the episode immediately following B-12, with the quote from Matt. (Look up Lucy Davis's page and you can see how it changes between episodes, as opposed to the Studio 60 page which just lists her name once: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0205063/. This contradiction also indicates that the show's producers aren't the ones posting the info). So, since IMDB is contradicting itself and I can't find her name on any credits sequence, I don't see where you're getting Kenworthy so definitively from. It seems to me to at least be an issue in question, although Matt saying her name in the episode seems the defining piece of evidence to me.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just have a solid quote from the show on my side, so to convince me you're going to need to show me something more convincing than a self-contradicting IMDB page and an elusive credit. I've given you the minute and second mark of one of the show's main characters using her name in front of her without her correcting him. Isn't that pretty much a definitive event? Even more so than IMDB, even if it was unanimously in agreement? Let me know what you think, and if you still disagree, please let me know why. If you do turn out to be right, I'd like to be convinced of it, rather than just shut down and left frustrated, you know? Nerrolken 09:09, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Cool, and FYI, I just saw your post on the Talk page, so I'm re-stating my points there. Rather than continuing this in PMs, let's do it on the Talk page so future people can see it. Since IMDB now says both versions, I think we'll be seeing a lot of switching in the future, regardless of what you and I decide, you know? Nerrolken 09:26, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Had any chance to look over the whole Lucy thing? You seem to be hanging around Wikipedia, (I have several of the Studio 60 pages on my watchlist), but there's no word on the Kenworthy/Kenwright issue. I'm just curious to hear what you find. Have you had a chance to look it over yet? Nerrolken 03:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, this is starting to feel like an itch I can't scratch. I've uploaded a clip to my website. You want to click this link and let's call this issue resolved? 'Cause I just know this will keep bugging me until it's done, and I am dying to scratch it off my list. Here's the link: http://www.thecodexseries.com/LucyKenwright.mov Hopefully this will be enough to convince you, and you'll change all the references back. Let's put this one behind us, shall we? Nerrolken 06:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, man, I'm tired of this game. You asked for three days and it's been nine. I've not only let you keep it your way while you investigate, despite the most definitive evidence being in my corner, I've provided you with the evidence myself. I've addressed both points that you made and you have yet to address mine, and throughout the whole thing I have attempted to be calm and rational, waiting for you to present evidence for your case that we could discuss logically. But now you seem to be ignoring my messages altogether, despite your Contributions page showing that you've logged on a number of times since I last messaged you. Now, considering that I went through and changed every reference in the entire Studio 60 page series to the correct name in the first place, (before you reverted them all out of hand as if it was your right to approve all changes), it seems only fair that you would put them all back after your investigation. However, that investigation now seems to have been adandoned entirely. I respectfully request that you either stop ignoring me and tell me when you will address my evidence, or concede the point and change them back.
You came to me, demanded that I wait while you look into it, and now you're blowing me off. Now, I am open to a discussion about conflicting points of view, in fact I relish such discussions, but I do not like having people demand my time, and then waste it. If I haven't heard back from you in 24 hours, I will revert all of your posts myself, regardless of your opinions on the matter. If you're going to be high-handed and demand to approve any changes to an article, the least you can do is follow through. Nerrolken 05:59, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've changed them all back. While I was doing it, though, I was wondering... Would this controversy be worth noting in her article? Other articles have discussions about common misunderstandings and controversies, etc, and seeing as how IMDB itself listed both names and such, I thought this might qualify. I'm pretty much wiping my hands of this issue after tonight, but feel free to add it if you want, especially if you come up with any more points in the "Kenworthy" category. It might even be helpful, since other people have changed her name back and forth before we did, so acknowledging it and explaining the issue might stop future arguments, you know? Anyway, I leave it to you. See you around, lincalinca. Aside from all the frusterating parts, it's been fun!  ;) Nerrolken 07:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] yearbox

I'm not exactly sure what you mean regarding {{yearbox}}. Specifically, I'm not sure what this means: "it makes the bottom row appear wrongly." I honestly don't see anything wrong about it so please clarify on my talk page and I'll be happy to look into it. Cburnett 21:58, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Missy Higgins & John Mayer images

You didn't tag them as fair use - you tagged one as GFDL and one as CC Attribution Sharealike, with no evidence that the creators of the images released them under such a license. Since there are plenty of alternative 'free' images available on Flickr, there's absolutely no reason we should possibly use these copyrighted ones. If you're going to be so rude and assume that I think I'm just above the rules, you should at least be right. Don't waste my time like that. — Rebelguys2 talk 19:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm not too keen on guiding people who can't act civil themselves, and I'm not up for helping people who lash out at people who know what they're doing. But, anyway...
Neither of them are free images. Images from Flickr are, by default, not free unless specifically licensed that way. I don't know if the John Mayer image is free or not - you haven't provided any evidence, and I can't find the image on Flickr as a freely-licensed one. The Missy Higgins image is certainly not free - you provided the evidence, and the evidence points toward the opposite conclusion you made. "All rights reserved" does not mean free for the taking.
At the same time, there exist free alternatives to the current images. As a result, there is no possible fair use rationale. Period. — Rebelguys2 talk 04:44, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Are you reading my contributions page?

We often put in page notices by writing messages at the top of the page using HTML comments, like so: <!-- your message here -->. That way, potential editors see the message when they open up the editing box, and we don't have to use misleading templates.

Yes, I am reading your contributions page. — Rebelguys2 talk 01:43, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aaron Sorkin article

Lincalinca, I would like to ask for your help in bettering the Aaron Sorkin article. I've appreciated your edits over at the Studio 60 article and I think you could help me out. I have made extensive edits to the Sorkin article, and have tried to make it both interesting and factual. I would appreciate if you could as a peer, review the article and perhaps even help with the lead section. I'm hoping to set the Sorkin biography on a track leading to Featured Article status eventually. It would be a first, because as far as I can tell there isn't a Screenwriter yet who's been featured. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. -BiancaOfHell 00:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] myki

Lincalinca: Hi, just wondering on what basis you nominate the myki page for notability. If you visit the public transport page, you'll see that a range of electronic fare card systems have a page; the myki page covers a shortly to be introduced variant - I see it as no less deserving than any other. While it may not be as 'complete' as one would like as yet, this will shortly change when the system is introduced. I see no point deleting the page only to have it rewritten later in the year. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Jm_cbr.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jm_cbr.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

[edit] Re:Extra Tracklisting

Thank you! Frick, it's so amazing to finally get a response from someone! Thnak you!.
As for what I want done, I just want a Type field added to the template so you can change the colour. Like for the {{Infobox Album}} template and your {{Singles}} template, you put the album type according to the type and color layout (ep, live, compilation etc.). Because the example of where it creates a problem is Mind's Eye (song). I gave it the track listing on the Dimensions EP, which is an EP obviously instead of a studio album, yet it shows up as lightsteelblue instead of lightsalmon. You follow?
If you could help out with that that would be great! Cheers. --Reaper X 20:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, precisely what I wanted. Thank you very much. --Reaper X 02:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Track listing table on Continuum

I see that you reverted my conversion of the track listing table to a wikitable. I suppose a wikitable isn't required. It just makes Wikipedia look better when there is some consistency in the layout of pages on a certain subject, such as albums. In my sample of 1357 albums, 98.5% of album pages use the standard ordered list format for track listings, while the majority of the rest use a wikitable. Other than this, I also converted the first row to proper table header cells (<th/>s rather than <td/>s). (I see on your user page that you consider yourself an advanced HTML user, so I won't have to explain the reasons for doing this.) I also enclosed the track names in double quotes (as per WP:ALBUM) and fixed capitalization (as per WP:MOS). Just letting you know, because I may take it upon myself to redo these changes. Have a nice day. --PEJL 06:01, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

(Following up to User talk:PEJL#Track Listing (Continuum).) I just prefer consistency. For that reason artist templates (or TV show templates) should get more leeway in terms of non-standard formatting, simply because they are templates, which appear consistent on all pages they are used on. Track listings and album infoboxes and such are a different matter, because they are used on all album pages. I also think users expect all track listings and album infoboxes to be formatted similarly, while I doubt they expect artist templates for different artists to be so. As for the singles template, it seems to integrate well with the album infobox, which is nice. I have some suggestions though. Firstly, you might consider changing the date to not be italicized, as italic on album pages is almost exclusively used for album titles, so it may be visually confusing. Secondly, the dates don't use the date formatting the user has chosen in My preferences > Date and time. Thirdly, the single name should be enclosed in quotes (as per WP:ALBUM). --PEJL 07:09, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
The second point about the singles template was because the years used piped links to year in music rather that simple links to the year. That's discouraged, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Dating. I've fixed this on Continuum. --PEJL 07:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
(Noting for posterity that I went ahead and changed it back, and you then reverted that change.) Sorry, I misunderstood your response to mean that you accepted this change. On my talk page you said: "I'm fine with the adjustments". Which parts of this change do you still object to? --PEJL 04:22, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
The remaining non-stylistic issues with the track listing table are: no proper table headers and incorrect capitalization. Will you object if I change these back? --PEJL 05:15, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
