[edit] Wording

Could we make it clearer that the link at the top of the template leads to the image? Apparently, some people believe the image is missing when confronted with the template. "Click to view the image" is unacceptable, as not every reader uses a mouse, but I can't think of a much better alternative. -- Ec5618 12:35, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Why is "Click to View" unacceptable? I get that not all users use a mouse, just most users. The "Click to View" is for users that do have a mouse, and those that don't pretty much understand what to do when they see it. If some users have a touch screen, and some a roller-ball, how does that interfere or prohibit them from doing something? Certainly "Activate here" and such would be more clumsy, or something similar. "Touch/press/click/indicate/activate". If we had to take everything on Wikipedia to the most generic level, it seems that it would be much more difficult to use. Isn't the probability that 99% of the people have a mouse, and would therefore "Click" enough to improve the situation over them thinking there is a bad link there? Thanks, Atom 00:40, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
See click here, for example. "This practice [using the term 'click here'], is regarded by many as the practice of untrained web designers, has received much criticism from web design authorities." Now, to address the issue, I have added the word 'view' to the 'file' link. This should make it clear to users that they can view the file, and thus that it is not missing. -- Ec5618 15:42, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I have added " (may offend some)", given how this template is actually used.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 11:35, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I have reverted that edit. Wikipedia isn't about being safe for work, and it isn't censored. The existence of an article on the penis is offensive to some, but pointing that out with a template is undue weight. -- Ec5618 14:17, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Can you please be more specific about what you meant by "undue weight"? Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 22:46, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Some people feel offended. Fine. We indulge those people's tastes by hiding the image from their direct view. Fine. But if that point of view is somehow relevant to the article, it should be mentioned in the text, instead of by use of a template.
The point of view that something is offensive is not so notable that it should be plastered on the article.
The notion that something "May offend some" is irrelevant to the article. -- Ec5618 14:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hideimage

I've just changed this template to more of a "hide image" system. It still links to the image but now has the feature of opening the image without navigating away from the page. violet/riga (t) 12:15, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
