Vuolo is almost certainly not the first Jewish playmate. I believe Barbi Benton, Bebe Buell, and Shannon Tweed are all Jewish and there are probably several others. MK2 30 June 2005 03:20 (UTC)

Most "famous Jews" lists list Barbie Benton (who was born Barbara Klein), but the thing is, though she was on several covers and was Hugh Hefner's boyfriend for most of the 70s, she never was "Playmate of the Month". In an interesting side note though, she is probably one of the few Jews to have produced a hit country-and-western album (while I consider her Jewish ethnicity a coincidence in this regard, she was probably also one of the least "hardcore" playmates in both her pre- and post- Playboy background....she ended up in non-porn "B-movies" and on shows like Hee Haw rather than in X-rated films, etc.)

Looks like Cindy Fuller (from 1959, I'm way too young to know but saw it in an article....actually ditto for Benton above but as a kid I vaguely remember her in both Hee Haw and some very short-lived 1970s network TV show called "Sugar Time" about a sexy all-girl rock band) has "fessed up" years later, check out this link:

I have never seen any article about Bebe Buell being even partially Jewish. Her current husband is Jewish but that's about all I've ever seen on her in that regard.

I also honestly don't think Shannon Tweed (ah someone from my college days who I can remember!) is Jewish either. First off, she grew up in Newfoundland which has virtually no Jewish community to speak of, they tend to have people whose real names are Shannon Tweed. I think it may have come up in some circles because she was married to Gene Simmons for awhile, but that doesn't mean anything.

Interestingly enough (I presume based on name) a lot of these lists used to list Hugh Hefner himself as partially Jewish, but most authentic biographies say this is far from the truth.hairymon 13 July 2005 02:20 (UTC)
