The snopes article states a lot of "facts" used on the list are untrue. Some kind of marking or footnote should be placed on entries that are false.

[edit] Hi

kenedy and lincoln both liked peanutbutter belive it or not. If thats not good enough they were both born in thier kitchens.

[edit] John Wilkes Booth's Birth Year

In actuality, Booth's birth year is 1838, not 1839. (Cite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wilkes_Booth | http://sc94.ameslab.gov/TOUR/booth.html | http://home.att.net/~rjnorton/Lincoln72.html) I have deleted the part of the article that states "Booth was born in 1839, and Oswald was born in 1939." Both sets of parents are now dead.

Um... duh? KingTT 02:27, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

simply because lincoln was not thouroughly concerned with civil rights does not mean he did not have huge impacts on them. He also used his civil rights policy to prevent Britain and France from intervening in the civil war on behalf of the Confederacy. The emancipation proclamation is quite possibly one of the most influential documents of all time. It paved the way for many future civil rights movements, and gave the Union the moral high ground in the civil war, preventing the southern states from gaining support. Lincoln saved the union with the emancipation proclamation, and the entire country has his civily rights policies to thank for the fact that we remain one nation to this day. -mb

[edit] Changing text to make more sense

I propose to change "Lincoln and Kennedy both had a sister whom they were very close that died young and tragically. Lincoln's young sister died in childbirth and Kennedy's in a plane crash" to read "Lincoln and Kennedy both had sisters that died young and tragically. Lincoln's younger sister died in childbirth while Kennedy's died in a plane crash." The reason for the change is that I don't see how it is possible for Lincoln to be a close to a baby that died in childbirth, meaning he probably never met his sister. While Kennedy's sister was a young woman at the time of her death, and their relationship is more documented.Ramsquire 20:37, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

It should read that Lincoln's sister died while giving birth, not that she died in childbirth. This would be less confusing.

[edit] Wow, mystery solved.

"Both were Northern politicians who were assassinated by Southern sympathizers and succeeded by Southerner politicians."

I am pretty sure we are not equally certain of how and by hands of who did both presidents die. Call me a buff, but I think we can agree one of the greatest conspiracy theories ever, do has its grounds to stand on, to get so easily butchered on an already questionable page like this one. (In other words, keep the hard facts away from the woobly ones!) Kreachure 28 June 2005 19:15 (UTC)

[edit] Marilyn Monroe joke?

Is that Marilyn Monroe joke really appropriate for this page? I'm not offended by the content of it or anything, but it seems out of place.

There's no such place as Monroe, Maryland anyway. ;)

[edit] Extremely Important and Needed Additions

Someone forgot to mention that both men are on U.S. Coins, and that they both had mothers, too. Please add as soon as possible!! Dr. Dan 02:02, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Nice one, Dr. Dan! I have laughed at those as well. (I even deleted one or two really silly ones...) Why not have a laugh? Both men had: two left feet/a penis/were presidents/lived in the White House/were married, and had a strong understanding of the English language.

[edit] What does this one mean?

"Both were the only Presidents to print and issue into circulation U.S. Government currency." I haven´t a clue what it means. Can anyone explain it, and if you need to explain it, does it belong here?

You´re right, it is silly. They didn´t print it themselves, it was/is automatically ordered to be. It´s just badly written, that´s all.

[edit] Baptism by Catholic priest

"Both, when newly born, were baptised by a Roman Catholic priest, however Lincoln never professed or practised Catholicism as a youth or adult." -- Obvious in Kennedy's case, but where is it cited in Lincoln's?

[edit] Title change

I believe this article needed a new title that is more specific and accurate. The The New American Oxford Dictionary defines coincidence n. as "A remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent casual connection." Most the information in this article would not qualify as "remarkable." Also, in the referenced material I added, it called them "similarities," not coincidences, hence the article has been renamed from Lincoln-Kennedy coincidences.--LibraryLion 21:31, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jack Ruby religious?

"Both assasins were shot by religious men." Ruby was in the strip club business and had possible mob connections.

This site briefly mentions that Ruby took his faith seriously. http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/russ/jfkinfo/jfk9/hscv9f.htm

[edit] Edwin Booth?

"Edwin Booth, John Wilkes Booth's brother, saved Robert Todd Lincoln's life a few years before the assassination." This is one of those weird coincidences from history, but I don't see this as a similarity between Lincoln and JFK. Did someone related to Oswald save someone related to Kennedy? To my knowledge, no. I'm removing this one if there's no opposition. whysanitynet 20:34, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warehouse V theatre

Booth ran to a barn, and not a theatre.

I have heard this theatre/warehouse thing a lot, but it´s wrong.

andreasegde 20:08, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, he was rounded up in a (movie) theatre, so technically it's not completely unreasonable. Nice list, by the way, now let's do the "Caesar Lincoln Coincidences". :-)

Chris 20:23, 16 Octobre 2006 (CET)

The popular view is : Booth shot in a theatre and hid in a warehouse ( a barn ). Oswald shot in a warehouse and hid in a theatre. This is interesting enough to put in the article. Ill wait for opinions.

[edit] Incorrect items in the list

I feel like we ought to somehow inform the reader of the items in the list that we have which are factual inaccuracies so as not to mislead them. The general admission that some are false isn't enough to save the young kid who reads the list and thinks they're all true; or the not-so-careful reader who doesn't bother to see the disclaimer. [edit] fact tags added

Unfortunately the assertion that the list is folklore and cannot be proven either way does not mean that statements such as he was shot by a trooper or there is no proof that lincoln had a secreatary named kennedy without proper sources. You can say that if you have a source that says it canot be proved. It is a fine distinction but an important one.

I will be trying to do some work on this aritcle in the next few weeks, I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver a couple of books on the subject and am trawling the web so I can try and get some full sources. --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 08:19, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 98.6

Exactly 98.6 years passed between the assassinations of Lincoln and JFK. Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F Kennedy were assassinated in 1968, a year containing the digits 98.6. Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was assassinated in 1986.

[edit] Johnson and Johnson

Andrew Johnson served just one full term before leaving office in disgrace in 1869. Lyndon Johnson served just one full term before leaving office in disgrace in 1969. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.80.175.75 (talk) 05:33, 8 March 2007 (UTC).
