Time for discussion here. This site, my schook [class of 1952] has a site that has been the target of jokes, vandalism, so on. But the base of this message is: LA is not a private schook, hence I have taken it off the category 'Private Schools in Maine'. It is not officially a high school, I have taken it off the category 'High Schools in Maine'. So what category?? -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dumarest (talk • contribs).

I'm inclined to say it is indeed a high school since it's a secondary school and they're about equivalent. To quote the Lincoln Academy web site: Lincoln Academy is an independent secondary school chartered in 1801 to serve as the public high school... If it's a secondary school acting as a high school, then I'd say it's probably best categorized as a high school --Matt 15:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

With the new Maine indication of school consolidation, it is more important than ever NOT to just make this a high school. It is an independent school, which in fact takes all students in the 8-12 school years from a part of Lincoln County. Originally it was the 'acting' high school for Damariscotta and Newcastle, but now for all of the local School Union. But still, not just a 'high school' - the state recognizes its difference, and it is outside the consolidation moves under way. --Dumarest 15:24, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Cheverus High School doesn't even have to meet state guidelines for how many days a year students go there, and it's still classified as a high school. The "slang" term for Secondary School in America is "High School". Being categorized as a high school doesn't make it "just another high school" - the notability should come from the article, not from the categorization. --Matt 15:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok, so a new category would work. From the definitions of high school I see (Wiktionary, Wikipedia, Merriam Webster) Lincoln Academy clearly qualified as a high school. Yes, Linoln Academy is independent but not private, but none of the definitions of high school I can find imply a high school must be public. Boarding schools can be high schools. Public schools can be high schools. Parochial schools can be high schools. --Matt 16:00, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
