Linkdead

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Linkdead is often used in online activities and programs, such as most instant message servers (such as Trillian) or computer games, though the most common use is with MUDs.

The term is a reference to the internet connection between your computer and the server which hosts the program. If this connection is lost for whatever reason, either by a program crashing, your internet going down, or your computer freezing, it could cause the server to show you as linkdead.

Some programs will actively disconnect linkdead connections, and some might even ban the user from connecting after several instances, though this is a fairly uncommon practice.
