Succession to the Cambodian throne is determined by the Royal Council of the Throne with the King not having the power to appoint an heir to the throne. In order to succeed to the Cambodian throne persons must be a member of the Cambodian Royal Family, of thirty years of age and be a descendent of King Ang Duong, King Norodom or King Sisowath. The current king of Cambodia is Norodom Sihamoni who ascended the throne in 2004 on the abdication of his father King Norodom Sihanouk.
