Line 1 (Madrid Metro)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Line 1 of the Madrid Metro was first opened on 17th September 1919 between Cuatro Caminos and Sol. It now operates between Congosto and Chamartín.
Extensions on both ends are planned for 2007. In the north, the line is being extended two stops to Pinar de Chamartin, where it will link up with Line 4 and Metro Ligero A. In the south it is being extended three stops to Gran Vía del Sureste. Line 1 is part of the small-profile network and uses class 2000A rolling stock.
Between the Iglesia station and Bilbao station, there is a ghost station, Chamberí, which was closed in 1966.
