Lindale Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lindale Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Located near the northeast corner of the city, it is one of two shopping malls in the Cedar Rapids area, the other being Westdale Mall. Lindale Mall is located at 4444 First Avenue NE.

The mall currently has over 100 stores. Sears, Younkers, and Von Maur make up the anchor stores for the Lindale Mall.

[edit] History

Lindale Mall first opened as an open-air strip center called Lindale Plaza in 1960. At the time, it had 35 stores, which made it the largest shopping mall in Iowa. Younkers, Sears, and Killian's (a local department store) were the anchor stores for Lindale Plaza.

In 1980 Lindale Plaza was converted into an indoor shopping mall, and became known as Lindale Mall. The Killian's location closed at this time, and was replaced by Von Maur.

The mall was further renovated and expanded in 1997, when 56,000 square feet of space was added to the mall. Included in this space was a 500 seat food court. Outside a 500 stall parking deck was added to the mall.
