Lincoln Southeast High School is a public secondary-education school located in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. It is part of the Lincoln Public Schools school district. Opening September 25, 1955 under the direction of Principal Hazel G. Scott with an enrollment of 652 students in grades 7-12, Southeast has since grown more than twofold with 1,700 students enrolled in grades 9-12. Grades 7, 8, and 9 were removed when Pound Middle School opened in 1963.

[edit] Renovations

As part of the recent $250 million School Improvement bond issue, renovations were planned for Southeast and are now underway. Renovations include the expansion of the cafeteria, the replacement of the roofing and windows, renovation of the performing arts wing, new classroom additions, new heating and air conditioning systems, and various exterior fixes. The renovations were started in June 2006 and are expected to be finished in mid-2010.

[edit] Tradition

Southeast High is often seen as the most prominent Class A Athletic School in all of Nebraska, continuing to keep its tradition of excellence in athletics. From the year 1971 up to present-day 2007, Southeast has been nominated for twenty All Sport Champions. From its beginning in 1955, Southeast has won 116 state championships for team sports in the different athletic fields. Since Southeast's last team sports championship in 2003, there have been several individual state champions in diving and golf. Southeast has produced dozens of D-1 football players, basketball players, and many more college athletes. Many pro athletes have attended Southeast. For its continued excellence in athletics, Lincoln Southeast was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Yet Southeast isn't just known for its sports. Southeast has had many state champions other than sports, such as drama and speech. Southeast's dance team, the Shirettes, have gone on to win national competitions multiple times since their existence began in the 1980s.

Southeast's music program is considered as the top in the state. With receiving consecutive superior ratings in Southeast's two symphonic bands, marching band, and two jazz bands, the high school's strong reign over the arts is well-known. Southeast has eight choirs; they too almost always receive superior ratings at the numerous state festivals. They are always seen to be a step ahead of the other Lincoln high school choirs.

Southeast's excellence appears in all the fields that are offered.
