Lincoln East High School is a public secondary school located in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. It is part of the Lincoln Public Schools school district.

[edit] History

Lincoln East was on an eight period schedule from its opening until 2004 when it became a regular seven period school. It was the fourth public high school to open in Lincoln and was the newest until the construction of Lincoln North Star High School and Lincoln Southwest High School in 2003 and 2002, respectively. Its school colors are blue and white, and its mascot is Martin the Spartan. A statue of Martin stands in the west entrance. East is known around Nebraska for consistently having higher than average test scores. East has prospered in recent years, with the speech team winning six consecutive State Championships and 24 total State Championships in the High School's 32 years of existence. They have also been known to have an exceptional music program, a highlight of which being the annual Orchestra production, also know as "Finale", whose themes have included: A Night at the Oscars with John William, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the up and coming James Bond (007).

[edit] Seacrest Field

Seacrest field is adjacent to the school. The students park in a school parking lot directly next to the home parking lot for the field, however, during games three parking lots are used, student parking, and home and away parking on opposite sides of the field. Although directly next to the school, it is technically owned by the school district. However, the Spartan football teams and the East marching band still practice there. The field is home to the Cornhusker State Games opening ceremony, the LPS Marching Invitational, and the Nebraska State Bandmasters' Association (NSBA) State Marching Competition, as well as the venue for most of Lincoln's high school level football games. It is named after the Seacrest family, former owners of the Lincoln Journal of Lincoln Journal Star fame.
