The hybrid cultivar Lincoln was selected from crossings of U. pumila and U. rubra made in Illinois circa 1958 and patented in 1983. Reputed to be a very cold-hardy [Zone 3] tree, it is distinguished by retention of its dark-green leaves well into autumn [1]. Although reported (in patent) to be resistant to Dutch elm disease, it has not been widely tested.
