Linares, Jaén

Linares is a city located in the Andalusian province of Jaén, Spain. Linares is famous for its annual chess tournaments, and is also the birthplace of Andrés Segovia and Raphael (singer). It is the second city in importance in the province of Jaén. Hannibal got married with a local princess Himilce before going to the second Punic War.

Its origins began with the Iberic town of Castulo, 7km from the modern city. There are lead mines.

In the present days there is a car company Santana Motor which produces all-terrain vehicles for the Spanish Army (the Anibal model).

Linares is also the place where the annual Linares chess tournament is held.
