Limnae in Greek mythology is the naiad of an Indian lake and the daughter of the River Ganges. She was the mother of Athis; he was slain by Perseus whilst at the court of king Cepheus of Ethiopia.
"There was an Indian lad [in the court of Kepheus King of the Aithiopes], Atthis, whom Ganges' daughter, Limnaee, bore beneath her crystal waters. His fine looks were striking and enhanced by rich attire ... [Atthis was slain by Perseus]." - Ovid, Metamorphoses 5.47
