Ligretto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ligretto is a card game for two to twelve players. The aim of the game is to get rid of all cards faster than the others by dropping them in the middle of the table. Instead of taking rounds, all players can simultaneously drop cards in the middle, if the card value and colour fits to a stack of cards lying in the middle.

All playing cards come in the colours red, green, yellow and blue and are numbered 1 to 10. Each player gets 40 cards (10 of each colour). Before starting a game, the players shuffle their cards, and put 10 cards into a "refill"-stack. Three cards are laid out next to this stack. The remaining cards are kept in the players hand.

When the game starts, players can simultaneously drop cards into the middle, building colored stacks in ascending numeric order, according to the appropriate color.

If a player can't play a card from the three cards on the table or the refill stack, he can look at every third card from the cards left in the hand and play the card if it fits on a stack.

When one of the three laid out cards is dropped in the middle, the space gets filled up from the refill stack.

Once a player has dropped all his cards from the refill stack the player calls "Ligretto!" and ends the game. The other players get penalty-points for their remaining refill cards and bonus points for those dropped in the middle.

To find out, which player dropped how many cards, all cards have a special marking on the back corresponding to the player.

After the score was counted, each player shuffles his 40 cards, and a new round can begin.

Ligretto comes in 3 differently colored packages. Red, green and blue. Each pack has a different marking on the card's back, and is designed for 4 players. By buying all colored packs, up to 12 players can play.
