Ligonier Ministries

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ligonier Ministries is a Reformed, evangelical, non-profit organization headquartered in the greater Orlando area. Founded by R. C. Sproul in the Ligonier valley outside of Pittsburgh over thirty-five years ago, Ligonier's stated purpose is "to awaken as many people as possible to the holiness of God by proclaiming, teaching, and defending God’s holiness in all its fullness." Sproul and Ligonier are particularly known for their teaching of Covenant Theology, of which Calvinism is an important facet.

[edit] Activities

Ligonier's main activities include producing a daily radio and television (on DirecTV) broadcast called "Renewing Your Mind," wherein Sproul teaches systematic theology and the Bible; publishing a monthly magazine called Tabletalk; selling and distributing audio and print materials by Sproul, John Gerstner, and others; reprinting Puritan literature (through its Soli Deo Gloria imprint, a division of the ministry); and holding conferences in Orlando and, in smaller a form, elsewhere around the United States and Canada. In the summer of 2006, Ligonier Ministries launched its new publishing branch, Reformation Trust Publishing, where its stated purpose is to release "books true to the historic Christian faith from today's authors."
