[edit] History and format
Lighting Talks appear to have orginated at the YAPC 19100 Conference in June 2000 [1] and gradually spread to other technical conferences.
Formats vary between venues. Most conferences will give over a speaking slot ( 30 to 90 minutes ) to them and arrange several talks one after the other during the session.
The length of talks are usually between 1 and 10 minutes with a 5 minute limit being common. In order to allow rapid changes between speakers slides may either be discouraged or a single computer running a Presentation program (such as Microsoft PowerPoint ) is used by all speakers.
