From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lightborn is an esoteric MC and turntablist out of West Philadelphia who emerged after his debut album Angel of Def as one of hip hop's deepest and most orignial MCs. His spiritual lyricism and dynamic, cosmic jazz beat creations have drawn international respect and attention. Lightborn has worked with Killah Priest, Maylay Sparks, and other members of the Heliopolis hip hop crew which he founded. Lightborn started out as a spoken word poet and dub DJ before entering into DJ Battles, winning his first battle at the Philadelphia Spinoffs held at Guitar Center. He did scratches on the Insane Clown Posse remix album called "The Wraith" for the tracks by the band Wolfpac. This album had international distribution. He also produced a side project, the electro punk hybrid called "Ghouls Against Boys" in which he played all of the instruments. The album released was called "Creature Crunch", and became an undergound punk cult favorite, especially in the Midwest. One of those songs called "Frakenberry Deth" was part of the "Horror of it All: Volume 2 compilation. He has played shows with Bloodhound Gang, Baby Blak, HMD, Adam 12, and The Army of the Pharoah's Reef The Lost Cause. Lightborn released the "Battle Plans" EP in January 2007 to promote the next release. He is signed to Eastlight Records out of Philadelphia. The Psychology of Fire is his sophomore release due out on July 7, 2007. This is a much anticipated release since his fan base and record sales have gone from local outlets in Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City to international distribution. According to iTunes, the most popular songs downloaded are "I am Never Home", "The Blood of War", and "Divine Arrival".
