Lightapp
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lightapp (light application) is a term used for a next generation of hosted computing and media services. It refers to the video signal that is sent via the Internet or other transmission medium to various display technologies. For instance broadcast television is a lightapp because it is immediately decoded into sight and sound through a low cost "dumb device" sitting in the home.
This technology is derivative of mainframe computing, but offers a rich user interface onto a remote computer. Thin client was a term used to describe web browser as well as computer terminal services applications - lightapp is a more specific definition to refer to remote display technologies only.
