Light of Day, Day of Darkness is a recording by Norwegian progressive metal band Green Carnation. The album was composed, written and arranged by founding member Terje Vik Schei (aka Tchort). It was released by The End Records on 8 January 2001. It is composed of a single 60-minute track, which makes it one of the longest metal tracks ever recorded.

Musically, Light of Day, Day of Darkness is pure progressive metal. In this album, the band combines many different instruments, not commonly used in metal, to create an original soundscape. It is said that 600 different samples were used in the editing of the song[1].

The longest single-track metal album released before "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" was "The Dwelling (The Melody of Death Mask)" by the Japanese band Sabbat, which, at 59:48, is just 17 seconds shy of "Light of Day, Day of Darkness". One could also mention the Edge Of Sanity's Crimson (1996), clocking in at a respectable 40 minutes, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002) opus by American band Dream Theater, a 42-minute epic divided into 8 tracks, and the album Catch Thirty-Three by Swedish band Meshuggah, which is a 47-minute song divided into thirteen tracks. However, in 2004, the release of Delìrium Còrdia, by the avant-garde metal band Fantômas takes away the title of "longest metal track ever recorded" from "Light of Day, Day of Darkness". Delìrium Còrdia is a one-track album whose track, named "Surgical Sound Specimens from the Museum of Skin", lasts 74 minutes and 17 seconds.
