Light curtain

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A light curtain is a device which uses an array of photoelectric sensors to detect the presence of a object. It is commonly used with industrial equipment to stop the machine if the operator enters the hazardous area. A light curtain will typically consist of two pilons, one with a set of infrared transmitters, and the other with a corresponding set of receivers. If the beam from a transmitter to a receiver is blocked, it triggers a stop signal to the electrical safety circuit.
