[edit] Comments

[edit] Picture

I think it is better to have another picture at the beginning rather than the Hebrew Getto. Since the Hebrew community was a minority at the Ottoman State. As putting a picture of Turkish street as the first picture about the Hebrew Community is not usualy in order.

[edit] Tamerlane

You need to add a tamerlane section, it would add a lot to the part. I am in the process of a reserch paper about tamerlanes conquering of the ottoman turks, i think that should be added into this artical

[edit] Proposed merge

This article still needs to be merged and connected up with the rest of the 'pedia's considerable coverage of the Ottoman empire. I look forward to your explanation of why you removed the merge tag. Thanks for your work on the article! JesseW, the juggling janitor 05:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

  • This article should be merged to Culture of the Ottoman Empire. An entire society, or as in this case a civilisation, cannot be said to lead a lifestyle. Individuals behave, a defined group of people can be said to have a lifestyle. When applied to societies it is called culture. As it is now, this article is merely an excuse to have an image gallery, which by the way should be transwikied to Commons. --Ezeu 19:47, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Culture is the by product of human activities; however life style is the process. Lifestyle of Ottoman Empire is a valid concept (unique) which can stand by itself. Check List of lifestyles. "Ottoman way of life" is a valid category. It is an oriental synthesis. Until its extinction, there are many western books published on this concept. I do not have a friend who is expert in this field, which I can ask to contribute. Also same as this one, the culture of the Ottoman Empire needs an expert to fill in the gaps. If it does not include misinformation, why not leave it as it is until some interested user will pick it up. I reject that it is a collection of a gallery. The drawings show different perspectives, which under a knowledgeable person can turn into very valuable way to explain the issues. Thanks. --OttomanReference 03:36, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
PS:Sure I do not have any expertise in this field, but will the person who is going to perform the merge has any understanding what s/he is doing? Will it going to be butchered? OttomanReference 03:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

The article can stay seperately - it is about the lifestyle of a huge empire. Unfortunately at WPTR we suffer from "understaffing" and it takes a huge while for articles to be improved. Just give it some time I say. Baristarim 04:03, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
