Lifebuoy (soap)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lifebuoy is a brand of soap originally marketed by Lever Brothers in England beginning in 1895. Popular for over 100 years, it is still available in the United States, through specialty shops that import it through Jupiter Imports (UK) in England [1]. Though Lifebuoy has gone out of production in the U.S. and the UK, it is still being mass produced in India, as it is the leading value brand there as well as in some other South Asian and South East Asian countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.[1]

[edit] Trivia

When the Philadelphia Phillies played at the Baker Bowl during the 1920s, a common joke inspired by an outfield wall with the Lifebuoy advertisement was, "the Phillies may use Lifebuoy, but they still stink". Variations of the joke were also employed by detractors of other losing teams.

The term "B.O.", short for "body odor", was coined by Lifebuoy for an advertising campaign.
